    I’ve just paused after the ‘it makes me feel safe’ bit; what struck me is the way he looks across at the host on ‘safe’ & what I feel like is almost the tiniest hint of a smirk at the end. On an instinctive level it feels like an ‘isn’t this weird’ moment that he is sharing with the host.

      @@madzi3rdWhat I honestly, genuinely find so crazy about your comment is that Will Smith literally said these words( "ain't nobody doing better than me") at the end of long answer about his own very specific life ( 25:24 HIS wife Jada, what she said about HIM, HIS weird marriage and HIS situation. He's literally not talking about anything else than him) but still, you decided to "read" that "he's not talking about himself specifically" and make up a whole explanation... It is so bizarre to me how people can hear a clear, straight, undeniable sentence but still twist it to fit their narrative. And I'm not even exagerating when I say your comment makes me feel weird, because it's proof of how certain people will never listen to what you actually say. They will hear whatever they want to hear. It's so strange to me.

    • @mariateresabissinger3035
      @mariateresabissinger3035 9 місяців тому +5

      Here's my take. Will wanted a healthy family and he is willing to go through all types of self machination (that is very easy to do when you're an actor) to get that. Jada loves a type and belittles Wil because he is not that. Maybe these realizations happened after they had a whole family. I think it is killing Will that he can't have that nuclear family and a co partner who loves him and the children as much as he loves her and the children. Jada wanted a thug and that slap was literally Will Smith trying to hold some of the energy of his family in place by trying to be that thug. Will is not that thug and it kills him that he can't get Jada to love, respect and deal with the Will that he is. I can't help but wonder if Jada is a narcissist. She refuses to help Will see his way out of this relationship because his celebrity is her Uber Ride to public visibility and career success. She is very superficial and Will is a very real human being with healthy emotions and a love of healing himself and others with humor. Thugs hurt people to obtain power and relevance, but Will is operating on a higher plane than that. Will can do healthy things to obtain self esteem and respect. Will is a good guy who will never be the thug that Jada is attracted to. I get this from her words. She perceives his advanced mastery of positive energy as weak, because she is super low vibration. The saying in spiritual circles is that positivity and high vibration can lower themselves to meet a very low vibration, but low vibrating people can't raise their vibrations to meet high vibrating people. So, to meet her half way, he acts like a thug. She did not buy it, or go "my hero" she rolled her eyes. That has got to hurt him even worse. He picked that to be married to and he is finally having the Chernobyl like meltdown that is inevitable from living through all that toxicity for too long. The only person he needs to stand up to, is her. Wil Smith, the real Will Smith is a beautiful advanced healthy person. He needs help and I hope he is privately getting it.

    The ‘makes me feel safe’ face, struck me as Will Smith having not really had this thought before and simultaneously realising that it’s not a standard reaction many people would have. He has spoken before about having therapy (I believe) and after a while people tend to develop an internal therapist. I wonder if, at this moment of his face scrunching up, if Will Smith was wondering what his feelings about fame making him feel safe might mean from a psychological perspective.

      I agree, I think it's a realization that confuses him and I've noticed the same (or something similar) expression in myself. As soon as I saw it I thought "I do that all the time when I'm thinking/talking through something and realize something interesting "

    • @jenniferl995
      @jenniferl995 9 місяців тому +12

      It's almost like at that moment, he realized fame makes him feel seen, heard, validated, which in turn makes him feel safe because that makes him realize that he's worthwhile in his mind. Jada has invalidated him so much and this was almost a light bulb moment for him, kind of a, "see Jada, I am somebody". It's really spotlighting that lost and shameful inner child and telling it, "I see you, and you don't need to be ashamed". That look on his face, combined with his words, hit me in the gut.

And in the future they would need to be clearer with what they were saying and how they said it. And most importantly tell everyone that He is OK & Jada’s OK and still together and stronger .

    I think the expression of him feeling safe, is because I think deep down he feels so dehumanized by the whole situation with Jada, that he thinks it's weird for him to feel safe that "nobodies" will know who he is, whereas people that know him personally don't even seem to respect him. It struck me as a confused sadness.

    I’m so glad you said you were confused by Will’s response to the question of his and Jada’s relationship playing out in public bc I was lost 😳 I couldn’t figure out any of it at all. I thought of him sitting at the red table and Jada asking him about how he felt about her “entanglement” with their son’s friend and that was where he got “bitten”? I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ and what was the gift? Maybe doing things more artfully was in reference to the slap? 🤷‍♀️ Isad bc I used to really love Will Smith. But since he slapped Chris Rock (and he didn’t truly apologize IMO) and then the lies have come out about his and Jada’s relationship and all that, it all just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like he has been protected not just by Jada but by Hollywood for far too long. Thank you for your analysis Spidey. Always look forward to your uploads! ❤
    Edit to say that I so agree with the last part. The advice about living life NOW. Be in the moment. I learned that when diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that doctors don’t know much about at all. It is a tick borne disease that attacks my organs. I also have Lyme but this one is the latest one discovered. It is about 25 years since the discovery and it was only 10 years discovered when I was finally diagnosed with it. The specialist I see knows how to kill it. But it cannot be totally eradicated and it’s one of those where the “cure” can kill the patient. Much like how cancer treatments were way back when. So, I learned to live in the moment with my own children and husband. We are now raising our granddaughter and I’m present every day for her. I have a grandson as well. I just want to be here long enough to get her raised. So Will is right. LIVE TODAY. Your life is NOW. No one is promised tomorrow

I think he did not want to admit how he truly feels so he dodges and shrugs. The response to the question about Jada makes perfect sense to me. Up to this point Will Smith has rarely if ever discussed he and Jada's relationship outside of her being with him at the time. He, from what I have seen will never say anything that can be perceived as negative about their relationship and certainly not about Jada. I wouldn't expect his response, including being bitten, to have anything to do with Jada. Will, in my opinion, was talking about himself and the Oscars debacle and the bitten statement was a generalization.
    Will has, in the public eye, always given the impression that he wants his life to be open and teachable for others. Over the years of watching his interviews, at one point he sounded like a psychiatrist,( after reading his book I found out why) that was an annoying phase in my opinion.
    As far as the "feeling safe" eye crunch, I think the expression was the perfect example of "if that makes sense?"
    I do think his "look at me" exercise was an attempt at, as some say your mind is not you. Meaning, as you said Spidey, possibly referring to something spiritual. However, the "..look at you while you're looking at me" sounds like something some people used to say that means whatever you see in me, (usually the good because the one being looked to was well respected) to look at yourself that same way. From that perspective I would say he got a partial answer to the question from Will if, that was Will's intention. But mostly it appeared to me as if Will was just making it up as he went along trying to sound deep😆
    The host was hilariously uncomfortable but I'm unsure that he didn't speak up out of respect. I say this because he pinned Will on whether he liked the theme song and his "diplomatic" answer. It's possible though, his level of being caught guard seemed extreme😆.
    Yes, this is long but I had time so....😊

    Sorry for the extra long comment but I hope that it brings value to the discussion.
    Every time I watch one of your breakdowns, I’m blown away by the depth of the analysis. I’ve been a subscriber (on my older channel and then this one) for a long time (in UA-cam time 😂) and have always felt like I should be taking notes. No shade on anyone else, but yours is my favorite channel of all the body language/behavior analysis channels. In my very humble opinion (but not really because I KNOW I’m right😂😂😂) the quality of the material and the fact that you almost always keep it neutral (or at the very least are upfront and honest when you are expressing a personal opinion), just make this channel heads and shoulders above the rest.
    I also love that you have a background in psychology and understand how people really work. I don’t believe you can successfully read people without understanding what really makes them tick, including how different backgrounds, experiences (traumas etc), and neurodiversities, affect a person at their core.
    I wish I could just sit down and chat with you and pick your brain for a few hours or (even better) be in a position to be in a mentor type program. My brain loves to go deep, but to really learn, it needs the freedom to ask tons of questions and to be able to practice until I get it. But this channel is the closest I’ll get to that sort of thing, so I’m very grateful! Until I am able to support monetarily, I’ll continue to support via the algorithm by “smashing that like button” and commenting.
    Thanks again! Through all the ups and downs and changes in life, this is one of a very few UA-cam channels that continues to be relevant to me.🥰
    And please, no matter what success you find in the future, stay loving and humble, man! They are your most endearing qualities. I believe that is the real reason that you have as many followers as you do!
    I’m not a “like my comment” sort of person but if anyone reading this agrees, please do like it so it can be seen.

    @TheBehavioralArts new fan here. Literally discovered your channel last week and I’m HOOKED. Lol. In my journey of self discovery, I’ve become deeply interested in and fascinated by psychology.
    A few thoughts on this particular interview and I admit I have a bias because I’m a Will Smith fan.
    25:15 where he was asked about navigating personal relationships in the public eye, I thought he was referencing Jada’s very open book tour which is what the host kind of referenced at the initial part of this segment.
    So Will is essentially saying he wanted to be transparent about things that were happening within his marriage. As a long time fan, their marriage was very private in the beginning. People used to be very speculative about their relationship. I think writing his book was a big turning point for him. I believe Will buried a lot of his shame and had a lot of work to do to come to a resolve of his many issues- so his book Will was the beginning of the turning of a new leaf for him. And then Jada’s followed a few years after, of course I’m sure they discussed it all before publishing and therefore he is saying, nothing about what was published was going to be a secret anymore and his only misgiving (I think he used misjudgment) was how all of these things that were only speculation before going to be received and perceived by the public… his fans. In his book it was obvious to me that Will had major insecurities because of trauma and he tried so hard to portray a perfect image. But I think he got tired of doing that.
    When he said “if I could say something in this interview” I think he was referring to generally not keeping his errs a secret anymore to maintain his perfect image on account of the world’s propensity to be unkind towards others’ mistakes. So he’s saying whatever he does or says publicly he intends for it to be so and regardless of how it’s perceived, if someone else is able to learn from it so they can avoid the same errs, he’s ok with that.
    He’s saying based on how his intentionality was received, he will try to be more delicate in the delivery of his authenticity going forward and that even though his “stuff” or baggage is publicly scandalized by those judging him, he’s ok because if we all were to open up our personal lives in the same way, the same ones judging and trying to shame him would be equally ashamed. Basically they’re just projecting because their own mishaps aren’t publicized.
    Of course this is just MY understanding of what I listened to. I really am glad to have come across your channel! ❤

    Great video Spidey!! I have to say, I have also never really recovered from the "Slap heard 'round the World". I grew up watching Fresh Prince, listened to all his albums, watched and loved his movies, I even learned how to speak German when I was stationed in Germany by watching reruns of Fresh Prince on German TV and remembering what he said from the US version. But since the slap, and his nonaccountability (true sincere apology), I have not watched another TV show or Movie with Will Smith in it, nor I have I listened to any of his songs. For me it is sad since I have such fond memories of his humor, comedy, silliness, whatever you want to call it, but now, I just can't bring myself to support nor do I condone, such behavior. Thank you for your insight Spidey, love watching your videos.

    I am glad you did this video b/c I was wondering about his demeanor behind his answers. I do think that he’s trying to MAKE hisself be ok with his life and relationship being in the public eye. I know he said he meant for it to. But I think he just learned early on ‘this is your life now so become ok and accept it b/c you can’t do anything about it’. And I think he’s mixed with emotions in how he feels about the uncomfortableness of him being on display for so long.

    A lot of moments through this made me feel like he’s the in the therapy/self-healing version of the Dunning-Krueger effect. Like he’s been going to therapy and it’s felt really helpful to him and he wants to show that, but bc he’s not quite there yet, he doesn’t realise that he probably hasn’t fully taken it in yet himself.
    When he was responding to the question about how he handles about his personal business being public, I feel like he’s trying to express that he is intentionally public with his personal life because he feels like being open about the negative parts of it, and the mistakes he’s made, might help someone else to learn from it, but also that he thought in sharing his life so openly, people would be more “gentle”/understanding towards him.
    Ironically, it also felt like deliberately being ambiguous and distancing from the situation the host mentioned. Eg, I felt like the “will got bitten” was more of an analogy than reference to a specific situation. “Delivery of the artistry” didn’t even feel like his words, it was more like Jada, but I think that kind of relates back to misjudging how gentle people would be. It kinda sounds like he’s saying he wasn’t mindful/tactful enough to realise how it might be perceived (or could be twisted), and indicating that if he’s more intentional about it then it shouldn’t be misunderstood (?) - not sure misunderstood is the right word, but it sounds like to him there’s dissonance between his intentions and the feedback he’s getting from the public. Then at the end of the response where he says “ain’t nobody doing better than me”, I think he’s trying to acknowledge that even though his had a lot of personal matters on display and that it’s been kinda sucky, he still lives a privileged life, so he doesn’t want to complain.

      @@Arti-iChi The least valuable channel, in my opinion, (and I won't name it because it isn't necessary) is one that could be VERY valuable if they would rework it. There are four experts who reference body language in the video they are reviewing, but they don't clip out the part they are talking about and show it to the audience. I'm mystified by that decision. Also, they show you the same clip over and over and over as the talk about different things in it. They really need to hire a good video editor or one of them needs to learn that skill. As it is, I find the channel unwatchable.
