This is actually amazing.
+Michael Goldmann Yes, All D-Fi USB fixtures are compatible by going DMX cable in and D-Fi USB out and/or D-Fi USB in and DMX cable out. This is just like how fixtures work with our FlareCON Air except with the FlareCON Air you will need to plug the unit into a separate power outlet.
This is great technology. Finally someone solved the DMX chord problem.
cord*
Question. Will gig at floorboard run 2 separate gigbars at the same time?? Thanks
Is it compatible with normal DMX? For example: DMX-in and D-Fi USB out, or the other way around?
I want to do this exact setup using (2) 4Bar Tri USB units running Master/Slave. Do I only need one D-Fi USB stick? Please explain how this works. Your video is good, but you lost me when you plugged in the USB to the left bar and all of a sudden the right bar turned on. Sounds like I need (2) D-Fi units....one sending and the second receiving? Thanks :)
First off, great video Rick. So, what if we want to add wireless DMX to our Intimidator 355Z's, without the bulk of the current D-Fi system, will there be an adaptor available for the D-Fi USB to DMX-XLR
+Jeffrey Greene The D-Fi USB is compatible with transmitting/receiving signal to/from any other D-FI device. i.e. FlareCON Air.
Hi Rick I bought the USB wireless foot switch chauvet 4 bar how do you program this thing
What is the difference between DI Fi Hub and Di Fi xlr transmitter? Is the signal strength the same? Having poor results with DiFi XLR and curious if the Di Fi Hub would work better?
I just purchased the D-fi trans and receiver and found that used with my ADJ Ultrabar 12H there is a delay very noticable, have you or anyone have any idea why ?
Are you planning on making USB a standard in all future fixtures or will higher-end fixtures continue to have built in wireless and this be for entry-level fixtures only?
+SkudaProductions Chauvet’s future plans can’t be disclosed
however you can expect to see Chauvet leading the technology race in future
projects
If I have the Chauvet DJ Obey 4 D-Fi 2.4 Wireless DMX Lighting Controller. Would I be able to control the Chauvet Slimpack T6s if they have the USB D-FI plugged in to them?
Yes you would.
If I have a DFI plugged into one fixture, can I then daisy chain dmx out of that fixture into other nearby fixtures?
Nice video but what's up with the '70s pron music in the background?
very good Idea - is that standard to any built-in wireless dmx lighs that can wirelessly control conected to laptop ( as a controller )
No, this is only available on our newer line of fixtures with USB in the name. Those are USB compatible.
You can not plug the USB dongles directly into a laptop. They are meant to be plugged ONLY into USB compatible CHAUVET DJ fixtures. We do have USB compatible DMX software for your laptop called showxpress. www.chauvetdj.com/products/showxpress/ From there is you want to connect wireless;y to the USB fixtures you would need either the www.chauvetdj.com/products/flarecon-air/ or www.chauvetdj.com/products/d-fi-hub/
gee... Not a very good idea,,,not a flexible product i should say
Hello. Does the slave light also need a d-FI USB? Thx
Yes, both fixtures need a D-Fi USB plugged into them to make this work unless the fixture already has built in D-Fi like our Freedom series.
CHAUVET DJ, can someone set up a master fixture (in a chain of four SlimPARQ12 USB's) to run off of ONE D-Fi USB Transceiver? Along with a Flarecon Air device, do we need four USB's or can we use just the 'master' USB?
Yes to your first question. To your second question, if you only have 1 USB receiver, then all your fixtures after that fixture, if not running D-Fi will need to be connected using DMX cables.
How do you set the dip switches to make them either a transmitter or a receiver??
Thanks for reaching out. Feel free to check out the user manual to toggle the menu between a transmitter or receiver. www.chauvetdj.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/D-Fi_USB_Instructions_Rev1_ML6_WO.pdf
OMG Rick got a haircut! Your significant other is so glad. Um, Rick, what is the “menu” button on the TX XLR for? So it’s not a (sub)menu, it’s a 1-16 button?
Hello Rick, How soon will the Chauvet Intimidator 255 IRC lights = will have a USB PORT for the D-FI USB?
We can not discuss future R&D of fixtures but you never know what the future may hold as far as the Intimidator line and/or D-Fi USB technology.
hi, sorry if this is something that should be obvious, but do i have one of these connected to my laptop, then another to the fixture? or do i still need something else to plug into the usb on my laptop, and connect to a D-Fi hub or something of the sort?
+Rudy Martinez The D-Fi USB are not meant to connected to the USB port on your laptop. They are ONLY meant to be plugged into to D-FI USB compatible devices. Yes, you can hook a D-Fi hub up to your computer to transmit to fixtures with the D-Fi USB plugged into them.
+CHAUVET DJ Thanks!, it's what i figured, but hey.... maybe a good idea for a future product in the spirit of cutting down on cables?
Soooooooo.. where's that next video at?
Are those brass knuckles?
Can I use the original D-Fi unit on SlimPAR 64's?
Can you please be more specific on which D-Fi unit and which SlimPAR 64 you are using? We have had multiple over the years.
My foot switch is not working. Thoughts?
what's the range on these?
600 feet for receiving from Freedom pars and D-Fi hub. About 100 feet when transmitting.
How many lights can I connect to? I have 10 T6s and I have 10 D-Fi USBs on the way. Can I connect them all?
Yes, you can connect them all.
You can connect an unlimited amount of lights. For large areas I would recommend transmitting with a FlareCON Air or D-Fi HUB as the transmitter has a higher power output.
I just bought the ADJ Airstream DMX is it the same as the FlareCON?
No
what about mobile phones , tråløse microphones, with wifi. not afraid these will turn into frequencies these lights use . I know is one problem with the microphones.
D-fi hasnt been working for me. I set up lights. Put a d-fi usb in each one. Set the dip switches exaclty as the rep told me...and my footswitch only works on the transmit side. Every gig has been a disaster so far. There doesnt seem to be any other info out there so its frustrating. We need to get set up (band) in a short amount of time sometimes..so it needs to be simpler.
how do I learn to use the D-Fi USB? I'm an analog girl. I need pictures! Is there a video for this on UA-cam?
You can go to our website and download the manual here: www.chauvetdj.com/products/d-fi-usb-4pk/
Why USB? Why not rather have a wireless receiver plug into the DMX socket? I have Chauvet Rogue R2 Wash fixtures, and would like a wireless solution for them.
A unit that plugs directly into the DMX socket would require an additional power supply to run the unit.
The USB provides the power needed to run the D-Fi USB without an additional power supply.
The Rogue R2 comes from our CHAUVET Professional Brand, which we currently do not have a wireless receiver system for, but at this time we recommend that you use the CHAUVET DJ D-Fi hub which provides much better performance than the XLR wireless DMX sticks on the market.

So the di fi is just so the lights do the same thing at the same time?
No, D-Fi is wireless DMX. It allows you to control your fixtures wirelessly whether you want them all to do the same thing or different things at the same time or different times just like a wired signal.
Neat idea unfortunately they are not very reliable. I've tried a bunch of different channels using H6 slimpars and T6 EZ pars and the lights set to slave will flicker.

Thanks but I spoke to someone and they told me that I may need to get the hub to get a strong enough signal.
Are using on of the D-Fi USB sticks as a transmitter?
Yes
The unit was not designed to be the main transmitter for an entire show. Originally we were going to make it a receiver only. We added the transmitter portion so you could bridge gaps in doorways ans other short distances.
Primary transmitter for a big should should be the D-FI Hub or FlareCON Air.
The output of the D-Fi USB is smaller as is the antennae.
You also have to keep in mind where the transmitting antennae is located. How clear of a path does in have to the other lights.
and why exactly are you not showing the setting up of the fixtures prior to plugging in usb stick , master slave settings and usb settings ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? and i see NO videos showing how toANYWHERE ??????????????????????????????
stupid question - but why not simply install a wireless circuit INTO the light fixture! hello!?!??!
no need for auxiliary crap to be plugged into the unit. Wireless circuits are common as butt-holes now, in every mobile phone, laptop, dash-cam, surveillance cam, doorbell and the list is growing!
someone working there with a brain immeasurably superior to mine (because his mummy and daddy put him through college) is paid immeasurably more than me to come up with unnecessarily complicated technology that will be redundant in 3 months! Did he also come up with Beta video ? im sorry but i see this as cumbersome.
Stupid reply - why don't you try to make one of those devices
Interesting, Rick.... BUT... this usb-stick is the first thing guests at a party (maybe due to alcohol) will find interesting and "steal" from your floor-appliances. Then the party is "over" when all connections are lost to your uplighting and your client will refuse to pay the full bill.
These devices are garbage in my opinion, as they seem to be a classic case of hit-and-miss. About six months ago, I purchased 30 of them to be used with our (24) SlimPAR Pro H USB lights and (6) Gobo Zoom USB lights. I've used them for four large-sized events now, and at least one or two lights will start acting erratically every time. The SlimPARs will occasionally flicker off and on and the Gobo Zooms will stop responding to DMX commands completely (rotation and brightness). Sounds like something a DMX terminator would fix, but I'm curious as to what the experts say. Where do you place a terminator in the chain if it's all done through the USB slots? Needless to say, my boss isn't happy with this $10k purchase. If you are looking for failsafe performance and your clients are paying big bucks, stick to cables.
We're sorry to hear that you are having issues with your units. If you purchased them 6 months ago, they are still covered under warranty. Please contact one of our Customer Service representatives, by calling 800.762.1084 (press #4) or sending an email to customercare@chauvetlighting.com
lack of proper set up demos seems like a way of trying to charge more for something that doesnt work
Yeah they dont work very well lol
