I think this is a great direction to go . Lots of people don't have a nice big boat and just fish for fun, a little boat like this can get in most anywhere and won't break the bank! Keep it real !

Great job! Your “rant” about learning to fish before you get a bass boat, was spot on! I couldn’t agree more. Can’t wait to see you and Max out there catching slaunches !

I am boat builder at Intrepid powerboats, who builds the best offshore CC and Cuddy fishing boats on the market. A close second would be Contender and Yellowfin. The rigging on the Intrepids is insane. They make sure Every screw is in the same position before delivery. You did an effin awesome job. I would name it “sluanch sticker”. It just fits. Also. Use 2 inch pvc for a rigging tube in case you add things later. Just and idea but awesome job. I grew fishing on a John Boat and, while in salt water, I landed some 36 inch bull reds and doormat flounder with too many blue crabs to count. SLAUNCH STICKER ready for you and the little guy. GREAT JOB!!!

Been fishin banks for a long time, picked up a kayak, now lookin to get a jon boat and do something like that. Learned to find fish by google maps and walking miles to get to the fishing spot before I could drive. Completely agree with your little rant brother

I adapted my Jon boat in a different way. I removed the center seat, and laid down a sheet of Aluminum, and installed a pedestal seat. On the sided I made storage to run from stern to bow, with rod holders on top. I run rivers in mine so I wanted the weight to be as low as possible. With a 9.9 Merc, 2 stroke, this 2 ft hull flies along, and with a bow mount electric, it's sweet, not pretty though. Yes it does go in the bed of my truck easily too. I must say this I do like what you've accomplished with your hull.

I've watched quite a few videos from MF, but this is definitely the one that made me subscribe. Your statement about not buying a $70K boat is what put me over the edge. Nice work. I'm inspired to make my own mods. Keep it up, my man.

Your assessment of highschool kids getting bass boats without knowing how to fish is spot on! And while I wouldn't do this kind of project since I'm a kayak angler, this is pretty cool!! -Mike

Great Video !!! Just for clarification 60 years ago they were called aluminum row boats 🙂They typically sold for $130 brand new for a 12 ' because they were rated and sold by the bend in the hull, not the length from bow to stern.

Love what you did with the boat man looks good that's also what I learned to fish in and I couldn't agree with you more about the high schoolers parents running out and buying them a brand new bass boat I fished a tournament on lake Guntersville here in Alabama Saturday and I bet there was 50 of them that showed up with 60 to 70k dollar boats but most of them only weighed in 1 fish so you definitely need to crawl before you walk.

Nice job! One recommendation for the future is get Rhino Lining type covering and paint the inside of the boat. I did it on my 16 ft Starcraft on both the inside of the hull and top and bottom of the plywood. I did the same as you by treating the plywood as well. Or maybe I was just a bit OCD when I did mine! 😁😁😁. You've given me some great ideas to modify my modified boat as a boat owner is never done working on their boat's!
    Great job!

Just reaffirming my name suggestion of “The Aluminator” ...really great job on making that Jon boat into a decent bass boat. Some suggestions: On the underside of your compartment lids you should attach some clips to hold bags of soft plastics. You can simply go to any office supply section and get a box of bull dog clips. Attach them to the underside of the compartment lid and you have a quick way to access the soft plastics you use the most. Another tip would be to get some battery operated, LED tap lights. You can put them on the underside of the compartment lids or on the inside of the hull to give you some hassle free lighting for those early morning or late night Fishing hours.

I have a question about the aluminum angles that you bought. Do you know what size they were? 1 in x 96in with 1/16 thickness? Or was it a different size? Thinking about doing this to my 12 foot v bottom and really liked the setup and using aluminum to keep the weight down!

Nice DIY job. maybe use some insulating spray foam under the plastic gray tray to supoprt the bottom just incase you slip and step inside the tray. It will even help with cool weather, those trays get brittle on the cold.
