Just a note - one of the shots there of the Aventho 300 on the 5128 has it in the wrong orientation. While this is just b-roll and it wasn't tested like this, I deserve shame and ridicule for not noticing that shot in my edit of this video. Can't be trusted.
I have been a fan of Beyerdynamic for years and have bought several pairs of headphones. So I ordered them right at the start and I was totally disappointed. It's a real miracle that they left the factory with such a sound.
Funny that this comment gives me peace a little bit, I love my beyer with my 1990mk1 and 1770mk2. I ended up getting the Nobel Fokus Apollo instead mostly because, I feel like some how the Aventho would always let me down going from the 1770 haha. At least with the Apollo its a completely different style and the bass is great so I decided to go that way. Plus the Apollo is replacing my Maxwell that I sold.
There's a difference between following a general curve shape with more or less upper mids/treble and altogether ignoring FR targets and throwing off the sound of all instruments, and then just essentially saying "ship it, good enough". Hard to believe this is a modern headphone from an "audiophile" brand, but then again, it is a "new" Beyer...ugh. They even had DSP to tune this with EQ at the very least! This is laziness.
I'm not sure how much this is laziness versus like... complications with production, and then still being forced to bring it to market. I cannot imagine anyone on the engineering team there being okay with this release. If anything this just signals that someone up the chain is okay with shipping a bad product just to be in the market. It may be disrespectful to consumers, but at the same time WE are the ones who need to stop accepting mediocrity and this kind of poor performance. Otherwise we will continue to be served sub-par products, because "it'll sell anyway" on strength of brand alone.
Trueeeeee. Im a bit of beyer fan and use (heavily EQ'd) DT770s daily but my god they can not fix their tuning. I love the comfort of beyer design and they typically have pretty strong imaging but good lord they are all over the place with tuning.
@@SunnyWave69stuff is cheaper to make in china thus foreigners buying stuff can get it for way less. Some catch on though and tack on a foreigner fee which can be waaaay more than domestic pricing.
Cambridge Audio Melomania P100, once they've put out the due-shortly firmware update to address the wear detection glitches. I know you said elsewhere that you tried them and really didn't like them but there's an awful lot of people who do. Some actual details from you on this would be nice.
If Beyer people were smart, I would address the issues and send him the improved version just to make him shut his mouth. People love when companies listen, at least I would consider buying if I see effort, if not they will remain in the back of my mind as that kind of company that is just trying to see what sticks with no credibility whatsoever.
FWIW, the folks at Beyerdynamic who sent it to me have been totally reasonable and very understanding when it comes to this stuff. They've handled the negative review with class and professionalism, which isn't something we always see when it comes to manufacturer-media relations in this industry. So big props to Beyerdynamic for handling it well.
You should do a review where you compare low budged headphones like fiio ft1 vs wireless ones like these that you just reviewed on quality/performance of sound alone.
Man, Beyerdynamic needs to step up. Their headphones are really well built and are super comfortable (to me at least) but sound is almost always an issue. I seriously don't understand. They've been in the audio business for over 100 years, they've been at it for longer than Sennheiser and they still manage to fail this badly.
Beautiful design but of course Beyer insists on whacky tunings. I legitimately don't understand it. They obviously know how to build and tune headphones but still they choose whatever this is.
Been looking at these since October. A little heartbroken, but, much less than I would've been had I bought these. Shame, as few bluetooth headphones actually have true dolby atmos/head-tracking integration. So glad this video exists and that I watched it before I made the call. Guess I'll go Airpods Max, unless anyone has a good recommendation? Thanks!
I am a beyer fan, and love my 1990 and my 1770. That said I was debating on ordering these, but ended up getting the Nobel Fokus Apollo instead. Hopefully I didnt make a mistake but time will tell. Now if I could just get my hands on a pair of these Aventho to compare.
Yes! Though its not exactly clear if doing so would be worth the effort. We use a pop. avg. DF for IEMs because they bypass the outer ear and thus need to assume outer ear effects, but for headphones that are interacting with the outer ear, it’s likely-in our opinion, anyway-that using the measurement fixture’s full DF HRTF would result in the lowest error overall (though perhaps not the lowest error in certain bands like upper midrange).
I hate how they don’t have a game mode or a low latency mode. They’re very nice to hold and feel but yeah the sound wasn’t to my liking at all and the anc was the strongest either. I’d wait for a sale to buy or if they update the sound through a proper update. Honestly I wish I can work at these headphone companies and just tune for the masses
Question (although I guess this is a bit wasted on these specific headphones): how does it behave when you plug the USB-C in? if it's like my Sony XM4s and it just turns off completely to start charging (instead of turning into a USB headphone like I expect), that's a massive fail.
Was looking forward to it. Had hopes for a bluetooth with Anc that isn't crappy... It doesnt have ANC, but test the Turtle Beach Atlas Air. Open back, Bluetooth and with WIFI connection as well (trhough a usb dongle)
Those subjective preferences don't tend to hold up under controlled/blind conditions though. And with this one in particular, it's extremely unlikely you'd find a person who would prefer this kind of sound signature over more conventional ear gain in such a controlled test.
@@halimj7 Harman has a wealth of research behind this, but even before Harman, you have the highly useful work of H&M's Design Criteria for headphones, which is foundational for establishing what an ear transfer function should look like at the DRP, the work from Gunther Thiele, specifically on psychoacoustics, more recently Fabian Brinkmann's work at the Technische Universität Berlin, and many more. Audio is not a solved science, but certain fundamentals have been thoroughly established over the years, like what an appropriate ear transfer function looks like for human beings. The subjective nature of sound preference is not "anything goes" because we all have human ears. Despite the fact that they differ, they are still human earlike in some fashion, and this is precisely what the Aventho 300 misses the mark on in meaningful ways.
@ I appreciate the info. From what I have read the sample size for all these tests were in 200-300 range and only included four countries. I nor my friends and family are from the demographic represented and we consistently disagree with the opinions of those who try to insist that these curves are “correct”. We have heard many many headphones and often prefer what you would consider to be “incorrect”. Look at the Japanese market and urban areas where certain other responses are preferred. It’s not so much that we have different ears or even hear differently it’s more about preferences in what is heard. For example I don’t like ear gain and love bass that bleeds into the mids a little. What do you attribute this to and how can you say that we are “incorrect”. Thanks.
@halimj7 well... If you can show me a consistent ear transfer function trend that looks like that, I'll be happy to include this as a reasonable objection to the population average results we do know about. Maybe, check ISO11904.

I'd be curious for your take or insights into why manufacturers release headphones that are tuned like this or just badly in general. I find it hard to believe they didn't know that this was tuned badly before shipping it, so surely there's a reason for it. If I wring my braincells for all they're worth, my best guess is that they are attempting to target a hyper-niche of heretofore untapped users with calcified inner-ear structures for whom ONLY this tuning can sound normal.
I hate beyer dynamic, my audio jack was bent and they tell me to put the damn thing in a package, to send it to them, to pay for shipping, to pay them to repair it, and to pay for the parts. Every other one in the price same price range can have its cable replaced by unplugging.
Hi Resolve, I know you said this headphone isn't for human ears but what if I'm 2 dachshunds in a trench coat? Would these beyers better match my HRTF?

Maybe you have to adjust these headphones on your head into the least comfortable position to get the right amount of ear gain.
