I lived in Seoul from 1995-2000. I ate or tried everything offered. This was the only food I couldn't eat. It didn't look like this soup though. The place I went to served what looked like a bowl of whole fish that had just been run through a blender. It was room temperature and smelled like a bowl of raw fish bits that came out of a blender. I reflex gagged and politely just ate my bowl of rice and some side dishes.
There are people who do not eat this food even among Koreans.
Many Korean foods were like that in that era, such as sliced raw skate (hongeo-hoe) which smelled like ammonia gas bomb literally. But after time goes by, and these days, such Korean foods having UNIQUE (or disgusting) smells and taste have become less unique and less repulsive. If you ever visit Seoul and try this food once again, I don't know whether you would enjoy it this time, but at least you wouldn't feel sick on it.
You didn't eat Indian food yet like fried yellow arahar lentil,rice ,wheat floor chapati and green vegetables with clarified butter and with pickle like mango pickle, lemon pickle and capcicum pickle
These foods are unexcelled

10년전쯤..가족들과 식사자리에서 보양식 얘기가 나옴. 할아버지께서 젊으셨을 때는 미꾸라지는 사람이 먹는 음식이 아니었다고, 널린게 장어라서(고향이 논산임. 강경에서 바다통해 논산 논뚜렁이 있는 천까지 올라 왔다고함) 먹으면 장어를 드셨다고. 논뚜렁에서 잡히는 미꾸라지는 삶아서 돼지 먹이로 줬다네요. 그런데 시대가 바뀌고 미꾸라지가 보양식이 됐다고 정말 시대가 바뀌었다고...그 말씀이 기억나네요

Actually that's not the case, during the agitation, the fish defecate due to the stress of being salted and agitated and deslimed. The flour is added to clump up the waste and then removed so the fish are pretty much empty by the time they are cooked. Furthermore the fish are fed a certain way right before they are harvested so that they aren't harboring certain bacteria, and pathogens and off flavors. There's many different ways to clean fish besides gutting them. It's like eat anchovies sardines or smelt.
