I had a “square” sleeping bag as a boy. It had a flannel lining and unzipped all the way around just like yours. I LOVED sleeping in that thing. When I grew up I bought a cabelas goose down mummy bag. An upgrade, so I thought. I miss that old “square” bag to this day😢 You’re inspiring me to order a new one 👍 Thanks for your content, brother always excellent!
@nickgironda8932 yep pisses me off to think about all the money I wasted on expensive sleeping bags and this simple old school square cotton bag beats them all
I have one of the spring supported cot frames. It has always been one of my favorites. I also have an older square sleeping bag that is awesome. I finally killed a buck this past Sunday morning. It was my 77th sit of the season. PPL.... patience, perseverance and a little luck.
Nice set up. Ive used alot cots in the marines and just yoga pads lol. Just bought that browning-20 bag on sale at midway for 50 bucks. Cant wait to try it.
This has been my exact sleep setup for abiut four years! It was a game changer for sure. I echo the same sentiments though with two comments: 1. You can improve on the confort by leaving the cot pad at home and packing an Exped mattress if you want the ultimate comfort. 2. Its bulky as shyte and the cot and those big flannel bags are not compact. (mine is a cabelas mountain trapper). If you need to save space, the exped mattress and a down bag can accomplish with nearly the same level of comfort.
Have you looked at using a bedroll (cowboy bedroll). Born badger bedroll or canvas cutter is another. Expensive, but was looking to build my own. They seem nice since the system zips up and keeps out dirt, debris, and mice when in a tent like yours.
Hey Jason, I've done 12 trips out West to elk hunt and I have come to the same system. You are 100% correct. I bought a Teton bag that is very similar to your square bag. I'm still using the Coleman Trailhead 2 cot but have been looking at those Ridgelines. I'm 6'2" so I may need the Comfort Smart cot. Makes a huge difference in your rest and comfort.
I slept on one of these for about a month while waiting for my long term GF to move out and it was not bad at all. I used to sleep on it at deer camp for 9 days straight, but now we have actual beds there.
Hi Jason, When you are camping in a tent in the wild at night, how do you prevent wild animals from invading while you are sleeping soundly? Thank you.
@matthewy8923 animals don't want anything to do with you or your tent. Might get a raccoon sniffing around now and then. Even had a black bear do a couple circles around my tent and crap right under my tent window (smell woke me up). But never had a real problem
PILLOW, Jason. Not PELLOW..😅
I HAD TO..
Yep , the Older I get the more the Bushcraft Romance subsides..I gotta have a Cot...
Another good one Jason 👍🏻
@@MWoodslore 😂😂 yep no cot , no camping.

@lymanclark5537 yep when you are hunting hard and for many days the quality of sleep will make or break ya

Bears do sometimes break into tents and kill people inside. This happened in Canada.
@@matthewy8923 true. Rare but true.

I have two of those cots if you roll in your sleep that mattress falls off. Otherwise it's great.
@robertanderson5544 my mattress never moved the entire trip. I love it
