    I recently learned the technique of taking a small amount of resin to mix the mica into. It’s easier to stir out the lumps that way, then pour it back into the cup of resin you’re going to be using and stir it in. I’ve found it works nicely for me.

    I love these! Copper is my favorite metal also. When I did bead and wire jewelry I preferred copper wire from the hardware store. 💖

    Hi ma'am. First let me tell you how much I enjoyed the video. Your craftsmanship is happenin'! The effects are gorgeous! I was wondering if I can substitute mica powder with anything like an opaque alcohol ink or pigment paste, and still get the same or similar effect?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  2 роки тому

      Hello! Alcohol ink floats, so you won’t get that same effect. Pigment pastes are usually made with mica powder, so they will work similarly.

    Hi there! I love this effect so much! I’ve tried twice now with two different resins and haven’t achieved this at all… so I need to know what resin you’re using on them?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  3 роки тому +1

      I usually use Naked Fusion Artist's Resin

    These turned out beautiful. I have one question: why do you use both a white mica and a white pigment paste? Can u achieve this look without using the paste? Thank you!

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  3 роки тому

      They have different weights, so the spread differently, but you would still get crackles just with mica.

    Besides the one translucent color does it matter what kind of pigments you use. Could you use all mica and the one transparent? Would it still work?

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  2 роки тому +1

      Yep! I think mica is on of the better ways to accomplish this. I’ve done quite a few with just a transparent layer and then different micas.

    have you ever tried Super Clear? That is what I use and I love it I make all kinds of things with it and have never had a problem. I found it on Amazon, you can get 1 gallon for 64.99 or what I get is 2 gallon bottles for 104.00

      @TiftenStudio  2 роки тому

      I have not! I have a few resins I like. Naked Fusion is my favorite for most projects. I’ve never had issues with it (that weren’t caused by me lol).

    Help, I’m lost! I’ve tried this twice and can’t get it to crackle! 😞

    • @TiftenStudio
      @TiftenStudio  2 роки тому

      Hi Vicky! There are a few things I can think of why it’s not working.
      1. Your resin is too thin or too thick. Thin resin just lets everything fall straight to the bottom. Thick resin doesn’t let anything fall deep enough to get crackles.
      2. Your resin sat too long or cures too fast. You need to use a resin that cures slowly enough to let the color fall through the clear.
      3. Your pigments aren’t heavy enough. Make sure you’re using enough colorant to make them very opaque.
      4. Your room is too cold. Cold resin doesn’t move as much while it cures.
      5. Your room is too hot. Hot resin cures too fast and doesn’t give enough time for the movement to happen.
      I would try a simpler version of this, with just clear and mica. I did a tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/YpGfVwt9glQ/v-deo.html
      Try that and see how it works. If you still don’t get crackling, then I would say to try a different resin. Either Naked Fusion or MAS Art Pro, and make sure your room is 72-75 degrees while you’re working and the resin is curing. I don’t ever warm my resin up first, either. It’s always room temp. So the temperature of your room will make a difference.
