- The Rice Solar Car Club put its vehicle on the track for the Shell Eco-marathon in downtown Houston April 25-27, but electronics issues kept them from qualifying to participate in the annual competition. The cockpit cover needs to be shut in order to be faster.

Great looking design. Don't know if you have any suspension/good damping set-up but your car definitely needs it.

That's cute as hell. I actually like the overall silhouette of it. But it could use a longer wheelbase.
+FOAD RIGHTNOW And a decent suspension .. did you see how it jumps with every little bump in the road.. something like that gets old in a real hurry! but never the less that is a true great achievement.. for kids that only have teachers and professors that make about 1/4 of a mill a year!!
Haha yea but just add a cushion and set for the road bumps.
You could make a car like that and sell it, but you would have to sell it in pieces as a 'kit car'. Lotus began this way, as did some others.

what did you guys use for the front axle?
One more foot of wheel base would have been better looking and more stable. Nice looking car; the idea of the solar panels is the best. Way to go guys. That is what I call ingenuity, which is where Engineering comes from.
you guys can use the ford model T design, it has strong frame and plenty of roof spacing for solar cells.

How many watt motor does this have vs. how many watts the solar panels generate? We need to know this to understand how it is possible. And does it have batteries or is it completely solar run?

needs alot of refinement. that cockpit flapping around is kinda silly considering all the work they put into it so far. a nice seal and latch and some foam to absorb sound inside would make a huge improvement.
like the design shape ;) need to be bigger and more advanced than it can compete with most low mid range ecars!

It would be even worse if you fitted a jet engine from a fighter aircraft. Or a thermonuclear rector. But hey! it's a prototype solar-electric car.....
All that work building the carbon fiber chassis and body and the they used HUB MOTORS???
Pit some rubber between in the doorframe. Or you can make ot fit better with hot glue. That will turn down the noise
