That's the moment that made the deviation from the game worthwhile. I was ready to dislike the change, until she did that. It was great, and realistic. I don't know how many takes that was, but it really did look like she was traumatized and inarticulate.

Yeah, I think he knew by how she was walking and how disheveled she looked that something bad just happened to her. That's why he didn't call to her. He just went up and grabbed her as gently as he could so he can restrain her, knowing she would freak out.

And even despite her wearing layers of clothing she was still cold which is another great show of how someone who had just been assaulted will feel cold afterwards.

For once when Ellie needed him most, she recieved love and comfort from Joel.. Ellie is tough enough to protect herself but at the end of the day she's literally just a kid. For some reason I wasn't really interested in this episode. I was like numb and going through the motions the whole episode, then I just randomly started crying as soon as I heard him say that
As the show's creators said, Ellie saves herself physically, but Joel saves her emotionally. She's in complete shock, wandering around in a daze, feeling she's lost and alone and then he comes in to show he's okay and, with "baby girl", make it openly clear she's his child. She so badly needs this hug in this moment.
What made me crack is as soon as she saw Joel, she wasn’t defensive anymore. She was shocked and joyful to see him alive and back on his feet because she knows that she’s gonna be safe now since he’s back😢.

Everyone is talking about the "baby girl" thing and, don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I lost it entirely with the 2 "I got you". The way Pedro Pascal delivers them, and the look on his face, the relief, the guilt, the tenderness… it’s everything. 😢
The sheer relief on Joel's face when he closes his eyes and says "I got you". Makes me tear up every time. This hug between them is just as much for his comfort as it was for ellie.

Props to the team for making the previous scene insanely hard to watch. The game was uncomfortable but the show made it so much better that it was so hard to watch. But then the curveball with Joel not showing up until Ellie was outside, this reunion is infinitely better than the game version

Like I could understand you prefer the sadness of the outside scene in the series but I thought the shot of Ellie stabbing David in front of the flames was too long and started to get cheesy, exaggerating the flames in the background. I thought the game version was much more subtle and absolutely prefer the music and voice acting there.
How tf is this better? Imo, it’s the opposite because Ellie just kept going and going, hitting David’s lifeless corpse repeatedly until Joel stopped her. So he knows what she’s done and has a better understanding of what he tried to do to her. I liked the way Ellie screamed in this version, but the game version was better otherwise.

This episode was such a hard watch near the end! I had to skip through that one bit because it made my stomach twist in knots. But Joel and Ellie’s relationship, how much they care for each other, it’s portrayed so well.
Ellie and Joel both realizing they don't NEED each other, but they WANT each other which to me is more powerful. Clearly Ellie saved herself but in that moment she didn't care that she could save herself, she wanted Joel. Joel also went through being sick/weak and having to rely on Ellie and even though he got better, he still WANTED Ellie. It's when she no longer became cargo but family. When he no longer because a trusted body guard but family.
Genuinely i haven't cried at a tv show ever in my life. Like not ever, as soon as he said babygirl i started sobbing my eyes out. Damn what a job they've done, this series is incredible.

the way Pedro is able to be so present and strong when asking ellie to look at him and see that it is him and he is there for her and she is safe again while also being so soft and gentle is *chefs kiss* 🤌 they both deserve awards for their performances. Bella portrayed the still frantic survival instinct to fight for ellie's life and then have it dissolve into disbelief that joel really was there and then just pure relief and gratitude that he fought to get to her. these two characters and actors get me right in the heart 😭

I liked both the game and show version of this, but I do think Pedro’s naturally softer voice lends to the calming feeling you get when he’s talking Ellie down here. It blends better with the more emotional and damaged Joel they’ve shown in the show, which makes him a more complete character all around. He sounds just as terrified as Ellie and sounds almost more like he’s pleading when he says “hey look, it’s me.” It’s all around more vulnerable and heart wrenching. BUT I preferred the games delivery of the “oh baby girl” line.

This scene (in my opinion) is better than the game in the sense that when Joel hugged Ellie, we can see it in his face that he's so happy to that she's alive, but at the same time he's upset that he couldn't protect her and he could've so easily lost her just like he lost Sarah. Then after he hugs her, he takes his own jacket off and wraps her in it to keep her warm and safe. So beautiful and bittersweet💕🥲

I love the way Neil Druckmann put this scene which was Joel couldn’t save Ellie from David, Ellie had to do that herself. When Joel came in he, saved Ellie emotionally.
But imagine someone coming up and grabbing you from behind - especially in such an intense and horrific environment and situation. Her reaction was so raw and real but the way he handled that was amazing. He didn’t try to wrestle her down, didn’t scream at her, got down to her level.

The thing I loved about this scene was that Joel didn’t show up until after she escaped. Showed how strong Ellie is but she isn’t hardened and desensitized like Joel is, so he has to comfort her and make sure she feels safe.
I really wasn't expecting Joel to Survive that stab lol. But after Ellie killed David, she was so frightened to see him lol. Some scenes are sad in this series. Like Bill and Frank, Tess, Sarah, Henry and Sam. Man at the start. Joel didn't even like Ellie. I still remember him saying Better FEDRA than us. But Ellie is pretty Safe in this life with Joel. And so is Joel. Episode 1 they hated each other. But Episode 8 They reunited. What a way to end an Episode!

It showing the watch Sarah gave him while hugging Ellie close and calling her "baby girl" was great cinematic storytelling.
These scene was just incredible to me. The acting is exquisite from both, you feel it inside every bit of your heart!
On another thought after the hug Ellie realised he’s recovered, she’s like you look well.

This scene really made me bawl. I never cry while watching movies or shows, but remembering it from the game and then being able to see it performed using human emotions, really got me. They both did a phenomenal job in this scene!

At end the of the winter chapter you could tell that Joel loves Elie so much and cares about her like a dad he didn’t want lose Elie like Sarah. This is my favorite video game and tv show franchise. I love last of us 2 I understand why some people hated but for me I love both games. I love Elie and Joel more than Abby to be honest.❤❤

Every episode has been hitting honestly. Even the the ones not mainly about Ellie & Joel.
But imagine someone coming up and grabbing you from behind - especially in such an intense and horrific environment and situation. Her reaction was so raw and real but the way he handled that was amazing. He didn’t try to wrestle her down, didn’t scream at her, got down to her level.
i sobbed when i watched this scene istg after everything that happened to ellie and after everything joel did to find her and get her back and the way hes just so gentle with her and how much she trusts him just has me hfuovigbhoiovh
This is the integral part of the story where both actors looked at each other and knew “yeah, we’re getting Emmys”

I knew Bella Ramsey was gonna do good in this scene but she killed it!
The thing I loved about this scene was that Joel didn’t show up until after she escaped. Showed how strong Ellie is but she isn’t hardened and desensitized like Joel is, so he has to comfort her and make sure she feels safe.
I really wasn't expecting Joel to Survive that stab lol. But after Ellie killed David, she was so frightened to see him lol. Some scenes are sad in this series. Like Bill and Frank, Tess, Sarah, Henry and Sam. Man at the start. Joel didn't even like Ellie. I still remember him saying Better FEDRA than us. But Ellie is pretty Safe in this life with Joel. And so is Joel. Episode 1 they hated each other. But Episode 8 They reunited. What a way to end an Episode!
