    Thank you for not interrupting. The Bee Gees donated all the proceeds from the sale of this song to Unicef and to date have raised over $10 million. This is the music of my era and at 69 I still love the Bee Gees. Its so nice to see the reaction of the younger generation to this beautiful music. The "music" of today does not compare in any way to the songwriting and harmonies of the Brothers Gibb. There is no auto tune or pitch correction just three beautiful and harmonious voices. Sadly, Barry, the lead and falsetto is the oldest and only living brother today. Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012.

    How did they find this music? They wrote it, among over 1,000 songs including many hits for themselves, and other big artists. They started playing in public, when the taller older brother was 9 years old, the fraternal twins Robin and Maurice, were 6. They had hits from the 1960's, every decade until the twins passed away in the 2010s? Barry Gibb put out a new album last year. They each did lead singer roles, and their voices always blended so well. They had a younger brother Andy, who also wrote hits and had his own hits, then passed away very young.

    This song is from the Bee Gee's live performance at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. It was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The concert was videotaped and broadcast the following day on NBC in the U.S. and around the world. The Bee Gees gave UNICEF rights to all royalties from the song. It's raised about $13 Million for UNICEF thus far.

    These brothers wrote and sang over a thousand songs and never had a bad one. They had ridiculous harmonies and vocal range and a career that spanned over 5 decades. They were and always will be a cut above the rest. The BeeGees were the first to donate a song to charity with this song for Unicef. They also donated Blue Island to help with the aftermath of the Bosnian war particularly the women and children, raising millions for both charities.

      Robin co wrote all of those songs for Dolly, Kenny, Barbra, Dionne, Yvonne, Diana. Not just Barry. Together Barry and ROBIN wrote 90+% of the Bee Gee's songs. Barry for some reason gets all the credit, I suppose because his brothers are dead. Maurice also wrote a good number of those songs with his brothers and was the musical genius. Maurice and Robin wrote for Robin's solo albums as well, (Magnet, How old are You, Secret Agent, Walls have eyes - all very popular in Europe) and wrote The Titanic Requiem (an orchestral piece played by the London Philharmonic) and solo wrote his LP's Robin's Reign, Sing slowly sisters and 60 St Catherine's Drive. He also wrote songs for others like "Hold on to my love" a big hit for Jimmy Ruffin. Barry was one third of the group but better known because of the disco era where he sang lead and because he's still alive.

      @@susieq9801 I did not know that!

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 2 роки тому

      @@yourthaiguy - No worries. I just find it sad that Robin and Maurice do not get the credit they deserve. If you look at any Bee Gees LP's it's right there in the credits. Early on Barry did the writing because the twins were over three years younger, a huge difference when they were small but his brothers caught up very quickly. Sometimes whoever sang the song was picked simply because that voice suited the particular song. Often Barry and Robin sang in unison (but although their voices were quite different they blended as one and you couldn't tell who was who. Genetics.) or they alternated verses like "For whom the bell tolls". The contrast was great.
      Maurice was the master musician who could play a dozen instruments and always found the right chords for the songs and the perfect vocal harmony to compliment the two lead melodies of Barry and Robin. He had a tremendous vocal range and filled in wherever it was needed. He was also pretty much their band leader and arranger on stage and most important kept the two strong personalities of Barry and Robin from clashing. When Maurice died, so did the band. That's how vital he was.
      Barry said Robin was a tremendous lyricist and songwriter, the funniest man he ever knew and his voice was "killer" - in Barry's own words. Some of the songs that were Robin's ideas were their early hits like "Massachusetts", their first #1 in the UK (Barry said his mouth dropped open when Robin sang it to him), "I started a joke", ""Holiday", ""I've got to get a message to you" and many others throughout their career. Give a listen to "I am the World" a song written by Robin solo when he was just 14 or 15! His lyrics were amazing and deep. His vibrato was unique and unmatched which is why nobody ever tries to cover his trademark songs. He was called the "Pavarotti of Pop".
      Barry was the big brother, good looking, confident and the public relations guy able to handle the press and be the spokesman. Robin was very shy. Barry also did a lot of record producing but seldom alone, often with Richardson or Albhy Galuten. The other brothers did some production but not as much as Barry. He was well reputed for that. He also got a lot of the public's recognition because he did lead on most of the songs in their "disco" era and that was the one they were most known for but there are three voices even on those. They did great stuff in the 60's, early '70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's but were blackballed after disco as being, of all things "too popular"!
      All three were essential. Maurice said one of us is OK, two of us is better but three of us together is magic. Sorry for the long blurb. 😉 A fan since the 60's.
      All the best.

    The BEEGEES have been around since the sixties Barry Gibb the lead singer is still alive, however the two brothers with him on his left and right were twins, they have both passed away and prior too that they had a little brother named Andy, he appeared with them on stage plus he was on his way up, but while on tour with his brothers he was found dead in his hotel room due to a drug overdose, he was the first too pass His older brothers nicknamed him, little Barry because he looked so much like him and even sounded like him. Barry the lead singer was the eldest he was the one that got his brothers into music, actually it may have been their father m? as of today he is the only BEEGEE left. shawn millar - ANDY DID NOT DIE OF AN OVERDOSE!!!! I hope you realize he still has a daughter, a brother and a sister who could read your garbage! He did not tour with his brothers and only sang on stage with them one time in 1979. He was NOT found dead in a hotel room. He was staying in Thame in England with his brother Robin and was rushed to the hospital in Oxford after he collapsed. He died in hospital 3 days later, at 30 years old. He was clean at the time...no drugs or alcohol in his body. He had been to and finished rehab. He died of a virus that caused myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart.
      BTW, Barry was not always the lead singer. Robin sang many leads including their earliest hits like "Massachusetts", "Holiday", "I started a joke", "And the sun will shine" and Maurice also sang lead. All three were composers. Don't make comments when you don't know what you are talking about. They can hurt people.

      @@susieq9801 Maybe you didn't watch the documentary that I had watched?! Barry has even admitted that Andy was doing it and he even admitted that they all did it without saying it directly. Andy's heart gave out because of over INDULGENCE from COCAINE! which after excessive use can weaken the heart! Same way Bobby Hatfield of the RIGHTEOUS brothers died in his hotel room, and he too had a family!! So don't give me that BS! The BEEGEES were not pure of sin! The majority of all entertainers use drugs either for recreational purposes and to keep them selves awake etc. Because of their fast paced jobs. I'm not demonizing him or anybody else who does drugs, it's part of life they live so they can function. Sometimes that's the price one pays for fame and fortune, Prince was raised as Jehovah's witness and they are very strict on what they are allowed and not allowed to put in their bodies, he died from an overdose of OPIOIDS. Do your research before you criticize someone else for telling the truth! PEACE!!

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 2 роки тому

      @@shawnmiller2515 - I don't need any documentary to know YOU ARE WRONG. I was a follower of the group since 1967. Were you?
      First, I never said the brothers did not use drugs. When did I say that? I didn't. I know all three admitted substance abuse at one time (on Donahue and elsewhere). All three used amphetamines early on to keep going 24/7 in a difficult business as did many others. In the 60's/70's amphetamines were often prescribed by doctors as a stimulant. I know because I was a nurse. Anyway, that was not even part of my response or of your original accusations against Andy.
      Barry 's choice was pot. Rob got hooked on amphetamines but eventually kicked them becoming a strict vegan and teetotaler who never drank booze. Mo was an alcoholic who went to AA and quit and also helped others through AA to stop drinking.
      When precisely did I EVER say that the Gibbs were pure as the driven snow? Give me the exact quote! Here's a clue...I DID NOT. I never gave you the "BS" that you claim I did.
      What are you so excited about, being contradicted? You were wrong in your initial statement, PERIOD! Andy did NOT die of an overdose. He did NOT die in a hotel room but 3 days after he was admitted to hospital and at that time his post mortem said "No drugs or alcohol were in his system". Look up the OFFICIAL report.
      Do you want research? How about being an RN for 40 years and seeing the autopsy findings? Mo said he was very annoyed at overhearing a reporter say "Bad news, it was natural causes". It was natural causes in that he died of viral myocarditis, not an OD. Maybe you missed THAT documentary and Mo's statement.
      Don't get all pious and self righteous with me when it is you who claimed falsehoods.
      I REPEAT.....He was not found in a hotel room. He did not die of an overdose. He was not on tour with his brothers but staying with Robin away from Miami and LA in a quiet English town (Thame, Oxfordshire) where he could avoid drugs and be monitored by his brother who at the time was a straight arrow.
      YOU obviously did not do the research so don't get snotty with me. I DARE YOU to research and find the cause of death. I treated people with addictions and with sudden death due to drugs, including cocaine. Cocaine DID weaken his heart making him susceptible to the virus which caused his myocarditis. HE DID NOT DIE OF AN OVERDOSE. I will criticize anyone who states falsehoods that might at some point be read by his family and cause them pain.
