2011 Ford Fusion Sport Starter Motor Replacement

- A video showing how I replaced the starter motor in my 2011 Ford Fusion Sport, which has a 3.5L V6 engine. The procedure is likely similar for other model years and comparable products (Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ), but I make no guarantees -- consult a repair guide for your vehicle.
I chose to replace the starter on my car after the existing starter wasn't retracting immediately after starting/cranking the engine. This resulted in a metal on metal grinding noise immediately after the engine would start (turn over) for a second or two. Replacing the starter resolved the issue on my car.
I am neither a professional mechanic nor a professional videographer. I am a do-it-yourselfer who wanted to save a few dollars by replacing this part myself, and I documented the process using my cell phone camera. I did 95% of the video work myself while replacing the part, and I apologize in advance for the shaky/bumpy video at times.
This video is for informational purposes only documenting the repair I performed on my own vehicle, and should not be considered as an instructional video for how to repair your vehicle. I am not responsible for any damages you cause to your own vehicle, wrenches dropped into the engine compartment (which I did, oops), lost parts, etc. Perform any repairs to your vehicle at your own risk.
If you found this video helpful, I'd sure appreciate it if you give it a thumbs-up!
Steps involved:
Disconnect the battery (negative terminal first when disconnecting)
Remove the battery
Remove the battery tray
Disconnect the wires to the starter
Remove the starter assembly
Installation is reverse of the above steps. Always reconnect the negative battery terminal last.
If you have dual-zone automatic climate control (where you can set a specific temperature for the driver and/or passenger), be sure to see the important addendum at the end of the video for the calibration procedure for the climate control system. Failure to follow the calibration procedure after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery may result in a climate control system/blend door malfunction (which I learned the hard way on a freezing cold day where my passenger side would only blow in cold outside air).
