Yes, a starter that's going bad intermittently can cause the engine to not start and may result in needing to try multiple times before it cranks over. A buzzing noise from the starter or engine area can be a sign that the starter is failing, as it indicates that the starter is not engaging with the engine properly. Other signs that the starter may be going bad include grinding or whining noises, slow cranking, or no cranking at all. If your car won't start after using a portable jumper and you hear a clicking or tapping noise when you turn the key, it's possible that the starter solenoid or starter motor is failing. The clicking noise typically indicates that the battery has enough power to engage the starter solenoid, but not enough to turn the engine over. Here are a few things you can try to diagnose and fix the issue: 1. Check the battery: Even if you used a portable jumper, it's possible that the battery could be failing or have a weak charge. Try jump-starting the car with another vehicle to see if it starts up. 2. Test the starter: If the battery is okay, you can test the starter by using a voltmeter to check for voltage at the starter solenoid terminals. If there is voltage, it could indicate a bad starter motor, whereas if there is no voltage, it might suggest a faulty starter solenoid or another electrical issue. 3. Check the wiring and connections: Loose or corroded wiring or connections can also prevent the starter from working correctly. Check the wiring and connections between the battery, starter, and solenoid and clean or repair as needed. If you're not comfortable with performing these tests or don't have access to the necessary tools, it's best to take your car to a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

When you turn off the ignition switch in the middle of starting the engine, the starter motor can still be engaged with the flywheel, which can cause damage to the starter drive gear, flywheel, or starter solenoid. If you try to start the engine again after this happens, it's possible that the damaged components have now failed and are preventing the engine from running. Here are a few things you can try to diagnose and fix the issue: 1. Check the starter motor and solenoid: Even though you mentioned that the starter and solenoid work, it's possible that they are damaged or worn out. A damaged starter motor or solenoid can cause the engine to refuse to start or crank intermittently. 2. Check the ignition switch and wiring: Check the wiring associated with the ignition system for damage or looseness, which could cause intermittent electrical faults. 3. Inspect the flywheel and starter drive: Check the flywheel/flexplate for cracked teeth, missing teeth, or deep grooves that can keep the starter motor from engaging. 4. Have the car's computer scanned for fault codes: Some vehicles are equipped with an engine control module (ECM) that could shut down essential functions when sensing unusual activity. If you're not comfortable with these checks, it is recommended to consult a qualified mechanic to examine the car for faulty components and perform repairs.

Yes, a defective clutch switch can cause a no crank no start situation because the starter motor needs to be engaged for the engine to crank. The clutch switch is essential to the starting system of manual transmission vehicles, as it prevents the starter from engaging unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Hello Great video I just put a new battery in and a new alternator but still having a problem with the car not starting up. I dropped the off at the Dealership and they said it’s the battery, but it’s new. So do you know what might be the problem?? Thank you
If you have already replaced the battery and alternator but are still experiencing problems with the car not starting up, there could be a number of potential causes. Here are a few things you can check: 1. Starter motor: It's possible that the starter motor itself is faulty or has a loose connection. If the starter motor cannot turn the engine over, it may not start up. You can have your starter motor checked by a qualified mechanic. 2. Spark plugs: Bad spark plugs can also cause starting problems. Over time, spark plugs can become fouled or worn out, making it harder for the engine to start. Have your spark plugs checked and replaced if needed. 3. Fuel system: Problems with the fuel system, such as a clogged fuel filter or fuel injectors, can prevent the engine from receiving the fuel it needs to start up. Check the fuel system components and have them replaced or cleaned as necessary. 4. Ignition system: If your car has a distributor or ignition module, problems with these components can also cause starting problems. Have your ignition system components checked and replaced or repaired as necessary. If none of these checks reveal the problem, it's best to have a qualified mechanic perform a complete diagnosis to pinpoint the issue. They can also identify any other potential issues that could be affecting your car's performance.
Can bad starter make lose power while it's on ,car wouldn't crank but wen it did engine was like it was going to cut off belt and pulley wasn't going fast?
Yes, a bad starter can cause you to lose power while driving if it intermittently draws too much power from the battery or causes electrical components to shut off. For example, if the starter is having trouble engaging with the engine or is taking longer than normal to turn the engine over, it can put a strain on the battery and alternator, which can affect other systems in the car. If your car wouldn't crank and you noticed that the engine was running rough or the engine components, such as the belt and pulley, weren't going at their normal speed, it could be a sign that there is an issue with the starter or another electrical component. It's best to have the starter and other electrical components checked by a qualified mechanic to determine the root cause of the problem and make any necessary repairs or replacements.
If there is power to the starter, but it doesn't turn or make any noise, it could be due to a variety of issues, including: 1. Bad starter solenoid - A bad starter solenoid can prevent the starter from engaging or turning. The solenoid is responsible for sending an electrical current to the starter motor when the ignition key is turned, so if it's not working properly, the starter won't turn over. 2. Faulty starter motor - The starter motor itself may be damaged or worn. If this is the case, it may need to be replaced. 3. Loose or corroded connections - Loose, dirty or corroded electrical connections can prevent the starter from receiving the necessary voltage to operate properly. 4. Bad ignition switch - A faulty ignition switch can prevent the starter motor from receiving power. To diagnose and repair the issue, you should have the starter and the power supply to it checked by a qualified mechanic. This will help determine the cause of the issue and the necessary steps to fix it.

Both Motorcraft and DuraLast Gold are reputable brands and can be a good choice for a replacement battery for a 2005 Ford Focus. However, the best option will depend on your specific needs and budget. Motorcraft batteries are the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) battery for Ford vehicles and are designed to meet the exact specifications for your car. They are known for their reliability, high performance, and long life, making them a popular choice among Ford owners. DuraLast Gold batteries, on the other hand, are made by AutoZone and are designed to provide high cold cranking amps, reliable starting power, and a longer lifespan compared to other brands. They also come with a warranty of up to 3-5 years, depending on the model. When choosing between these two brands, consider factors such as price, warranty, and performance specifications to determine which one is the best fit for your needs. It's also a good idea to consult with a qualified mechanic or do some additional research to compare the benefits and drawbacks of each brand.

New Battery, new alternator and it still acts like the battery is bad. Had battery tested since it is three months old. still acts like a dead battery. Give the car a jump and it fires right up. Don't know what else to do but replace starter, I guess.
A slow cranking noise and clicking sound can be due to several factors that cause difficulty in the engine's capacity to crank or inability to turn over. Some common reasons for the problem include: 1. Weak or dead battery: One of the most common reasons for slow cranking or clicking sound when trying to start a car engine is a weak or discharged battery. A weak or dead battery may not provide the necessary power to crank the engine. 2. Bad connections: Dirty or corroded electrical connections between the battery and starter can increase resistance and reduce the amount of electrical current that gets to the starter motor. 3. Faulty starter: A malfunctioning starter or starter solenoid could prevent the engine from turning over, and you might hear a clicking noise when turning the ignition. 4. Bad fuel pump or fuel filter: If the fuel pump or fuel filter is not working correctly or is clogged, it can prevent gasoline from reaching the engine and cause clicking and slow cranking noise. 5. Ignition switch: A damaged or malfunctioning ignition switch can cause a no-start condition. To diagnose and repair the issue, you should have the battery, the starter, and the power supply to it checked by a qualified mechanic. This will help determine the cause of the problem and the necessary steps to fix it.

You can try switching the starter relay for another one that matches from AC or Wipers just to rule out the relay. They are clearly identified and there are usually several of the same types in a fuse box. Also turn on dome light, staying bright signifies open circuit when key is turned to start, going dark or off is usually is battery condition or poor connection, slight dim is normal.
Thank you for this video! Can cold weather temperatures prevent starter from working?...The car is stored in outside carport. How long does a starter motor typically last?
Cold weather can sometimes affect the performance of the starter due to increased resistance in the electrical components caused by the colder temperature. If your car is stored outside in a carport in very cold conditions, it's possible that the starter motor could be affected. However, there are several factors that can cause starter problems, such as corroded battery terminals, a weak battery, a bad starter relay, or worn out wiring. As for how long a starter motor typically lasts, this can vary greatly depending on several factors, including the make and model of the car, driving conditions, and maintenance practices. In general, starters can last anywhere from 50,000 to 150,000 miles, or more. However, if the starter is not properly maintained or if the car is subjected to harsh driving conditions or frequent short trips, it may not last as long. It's important to have your car regularly serviced and have the starter checked if you notice any problems, such as slow or no starts, grinding noises or other unusual sounds.

05.52 there needs to be a footnote, that a car must be in neutral for manual cars, cause if in gear and it starts, injury could occur.
all your videos are very informative man I learn so much!!!
This motivates me to keep going! Thank you
do you smoke a bud before narrating?
Excellent vid. I wanted to make sure my friend's car was for sure a bad starter. Sounds like it is.
I love you so much brosieden 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
this keep happening to my 2007
Odessdy van . so I bought a remodel starter help for a little while
but but it happened again so I just have to hit the pipe every so often.
do I just buy a new one .not remote
and about how much. 💚
Dude a very important thing to do first is check the relay\fuse box ignition, then you can check the starter, then check the battery.dont forget the alternator.
Very helpful, thank you!
I loved the sound samples! Oh wait, there was none!
Hello
Great video
I just put a new battery in and a new alternator but still having a problem with the car not starting up. I dropped the off at the Dealership and they said it’s the battery, but it’s new. So do you know what might be the problem??
Thank you
If you have already replaced the battery and alternator but are still experiencing problems with the car not starting up, there could be a number of potential causes. Here are a few things you can check:
Well said , graphics jived nicely to enable understanding of WHAT is said . Cheers to a good “sayer” 🤙🏽.
Do NOT smack the starter with a hammer..
It's just enough to get you home or to a mechanic. Also, if that does get it running, then you know it's a bad starter.
Thank you
Can bad starter make lose power while it's on ,car wouldn't crank but wen it did engine was like it was going to cut off belt and pulley wasn't going fast?
What if the starter doesn’t do any noise but there’s power
If there is power to the starter, but it doesn't turn or make any noise, it could be due to a variety of issues, including:
Same with my gmc. It makes a very weird noise and takes about 3 seconds to turn on
Great job with your videos man. Please keep it up. Thank you!
Comments like this motivate me to keep going, thank you!
@@easyautofix 5 owner here. question , how do you know if it’s a bad starter , my car cranks but the first and second ignition noise it’s almost as if its dull and dosent want to go. then the rest of the ignitions after those sound good and the car turns on , any help ?
Would you reccomend a Motorcraft or a Duralast Gold for a 2005 Focus?
Well explained , helpful
Knowledgeable and very helpful.
More like painful
Simple and informative great channel :)
Not really savvy with cars but after watching video it seems like my Soviet illinoid is not brushing because of a bad dictator commutator.
Edit: solenoid… watched it again. Couldn’t find any evidence of any type of communism going on under the hood
Your delivery is sublime.
Hi, would a bad starter cause a sudden stall at a red light? And cranks but no start afterwards? Thanks
Thats more likely the alternator.
How about a dead silent noise when turning the key? Absolute silence. What’s that ?? (Battery known to be good.) failing relay?
Yawh man! Party on dude! 🤙 😂
Good easy to understand video; thanks !!!!!
I baught a new battery thinking it would fix my slow start up i get every once in a while. I was wrong so i know now its not the battery because its new and i cleaned up the carosion and rust . I may need a new starter or risk it and eventualy pay 250 for a tow truck like on my ladt car
You gave a reason for all but one,,,why the starter will just free spin. I know the pinion doesn't come out ,,but why?
New Battery, new alternator and it still acts like the battery is bad. Had battery tested since it is three months old. still acts like a dead battery. Give the car a jump and it fires right up. Don't know what else to do but replace starter, I guess.
yep i have an 84 el camino and it slow cranks and makes a clicking noise, won’t turn over, thanks for the info man
A slow cranking noise and clicking sound can be due to several factors that cause difficulty in the engine's capacity to crank or inability to turn over. Some common reasons for the problem include:
The very most common problem everybody has where the starter is a whistling sound whistling sound after the engine is started and the sound continues that's the one thing nobody covers these videos are worthless
It gives me a click but after a couple try’s it cranks but normal speed not slow
My car just clicks when I try to start it, then when i try again it starts but it starts at low rpm’s then shoots up to the regular rpm
Are there symptoms of a bad serpentine belt?
Coming soon!
@@easyautofix thank you!
Thanks this really helped.
Just removed my starter from my BMW 525i, not an easy task as I had to remove the intake, ;( Engine was hydrolocked with coolant in the # 3 cylinder (overheated and cylinder head cracked). Before I knew it, I cranked the engine and of course it was locked so now the starter just turns without engaging so I'm thinking the pinion gear stripped.
I get one click and everything powers off, then it starts on 2nd try.. Doesn't do it Everytime, but there's an issue, it's a Nissan Sentra only 2yrs old... Would it be the starter failing
Yes.
Having start trouble overnite this christmas..volvo s80 2001..just cklicking no turning over..bought nrw biltema battery..wont help..wire connections to solenoid??or..
Is it possible to have a bad starter if it starts on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time?
Please help, i bought a brand new starter, then after that night when I went to work doing doordassh, after a few hours after doing deliveries it wasn't starting i let it sit for like 8 minutes then it finally started! I drive a 02 Accord coupe LX..
Bro your monotone voice is not it. Reminds me of my ex girlfriend from New Jersey. Maybe if you make this change you’ll be a following even quicker.
05 Silverado here! Most times my truck starts up fine, but every now and then she wants to have a tizzy and scare me. If I violently shake myself while holding the wheel it’ll start lmaooo
Bro I love these! Keep it up!
I was going to the bar and this happened😢😢 I guess I'll sleep sober today 😡 😡 😡 😡 the mechanic will be coming tomorrow morning 😢
@@bryank2098 Hi Bryan...thank you for your reply! My car been starting up fine after a few days during real cold weather 2 weeks ago where it took a few cycles to start. The car is 1990 Acura Integra RS, 94,700 miles (yes!), stored in a carport, regularly maintained (I'm the original owner), and the current battery is about 8 months old. As I'm older and retired, I drive only 2 days a week for 5 miles at a time. Sometimes on days I don't drive, or if the weather has been particularly cold I will start the car up and let her idle for 30 minutes. I know that's still not a lot of exercise, but it's the best I can do these days. I plan to take her in to the mechanic within a few weeks, as she needs a CV boot/axle replaced, and at that time I will ask to test the starter. Best wishes!
AMATEURS: IT COULD ALSO BE A BAD BATTERY 😊
lol no.
It was in my case. I took it to my mechanic and first thing he did was check the battery.
“But the videos said, blah blah blah… I don’t think it’s the battery.”
It was the battery. 😅
My issues only started after a shop replaced my battery and alternator.
Thank you!!!! It was a loose battery terminal. Really appreciate your thorough explanation of possible problems!! Thank you!!!
At least it's just my starter..... starter for a camery is only 50
So my starter is fucking wild, it’s done all of these and every now and then it’ll work like nothings wrong…..still gonna swap it out
#1 problem with starter. it came was from a chevy aveo
Dude are you fcking serious bro just save my life
Hi i have a 2004 nissan frontier, i have had it since than i have changed the radiator fan belts clutch etc but i have never changed the starter and the alternator, do you know how long those parts usually last?
I hear grinding and my car will not start some times but it happens once or twice a every 90+ days it's a new starter a year or 2 old I have a manual any input will be awesome.
I’m experiencing bad staring problems on a 2010 Dodge Caliber, please help me out.
I have a 2014 gmc sierra my started sparkles and I have to hit it when something so it can turn on what should I do ?
Good, keep going. Directly to the point.
I appreciate you, thank you!
Excellent video. To the point and extremely informative. Thank you.
why does this guy have such a hard time pronounciating words? did an AI write the script for him?
So for my vespa when i go to start it i can just hear something spinning but nothing cranks. What does this mean?
i don't know if anyone needs to hear this but my toyota camry / lexus es330 .. starts and then once i drive somwhere and turn the car off ..if i return to soon the car won't always start again. there is no noise = the key is just sponge .. lights work etc but no crank no start ... i had someone tap the starter with a wrench and it started .. ALSO after it sits for an undetermined amount of time it cranks again .. 30 minutes or an hour ? it's very unpredictable and there is no real pattern to when it won't start .. it's when you least expect it .. its been doing it in heat / and now the winter ! UPDATE IT WAS THE STARTER !!
Was it the starter?
@@weizimabon1859 it was the starter !!
bro why do you sound like somebody forced you to do this😂
My car made a one clock sound whenever I would turn it off. Now it won’t crank or start at all
