I was contemplating exactly this and I stumbled upon your video. I migjt go with the HFI walker H2 (non touch version). And the same thing happened to me with Spotify and YTmusic Algorithms. It ended up being same songs over and over again with an occasional variation, but it felt like I wasnt in control of my own music. Even though the algorithms were trying to find music for me, it still didn't feel natural. Most of the time I found myself skipping songs that I was tired of listening to in hopes that something new and fun would play.
I found it really hard to break the habit of skipping songs all the time since that's the habit I developed after years of using Spotify. Recently I have been using a portable CD player to teach myself to listen to CDs from start to end again and I have learned to listen instead of searching for the perfect song. I have discovered some great artists and songs at my local thrift store. Good luck on your music journey!
Great video, nice to see other people having love for mp3s still. I've been listening to mp3s in the 90s/2000s and after a brief Spotify era I've switched back to my mp3 collection again around 2016. Streaming is just so... overwhelming... and since I often listen to the same 2-3 albums for weeks, mp3 works much better for me. I don't like to use iTunes so considering getting some cheaper mp3 player that I can just copy the files to directly without any sync or bloated functions.
I’m the same when it comes to listening to the same few albums. I really appreciate my music more that I own it and am not renting it continuously. I’m glad to meet another mp3 player fan.
I've currently got the Hiby R4. Amazing little machine. Its the perfect balance between streaming (It's Android) and my frankly ridiculous music collection on ripped MP3 & Flac (500gb & still growing)
Yeah just got the Hiby R4 x Evangelion and it's awesome. I literally can't stop listening to my music. My lib is only 30GB so far, but still growing. Let's see if 512GB is enough
Good tip on the podcast, I never stopped using iPods, I buy CDs almost every week, now they are cheap from thrift stores. I also have been buying music I would never had purchased when I was younger. I don't use any streaming services. I do run a Plex server so I can stream my CDs to myself when not at home if I don't want to take the iPod.
That's such a good idea to run your own server to stream your personal music. I can't believe how cheap CDs are now and I'm glad so so many people me are buying them again.
@@LauraMalvoyante I know, Ive been collecting since the late 80's and they are so cheap now.. also pleased people are buying again and even the young folk are getting interested in them which I think is great. Keep up the good work love the channel.
Great discussion. I went with an iPad mini that only connects at home and I usually listen to my music away from home. At home, yes, there is a danger you will connect to the internet and use too much screen time.
You can get music downloads, single and full albums, on other sites as well. HD Tracks and 7 Digital are two I use and they have multiple formats for the music. (not all music has all formats, but at least 320 MP3 and 16/44 FLAC) I don't use iTunes at all, not an Apple fan in the least since they seem to not play well with others most of the time.
My buddy and I visit Goodwill often to find CDs and DVDs. He's already gotten a whole large Case Logic folder full. I've been getting my music in FLAC, and the quality is insane. I went back to a flip and now it's time to buy an MP3 player, paper notebook, and a casio calculator. I'm done with streaming! They will no longer know what I like and try to flip it and sell it back to me. FREEDOM
Love this! I love not being fed by an algorithm anymore. I also pre-ordered a CD that comes out in 2 months. It's exciting to look forward to music releases for music again.
I rip UA-cam songs and concerts onto an external SSD drive. I'm still using three Sansa MP3 players, plus they have FM radios that I listen to when I'm in different cities.
Yesterday morning, I bought that Mechen on Ali Express for $37.xx plus tax. I woke up this morning at 5 AM, checked my email and found that my new FLAC player is shipped. By the way, for the past two weeks, the player was sold for $4x.xx. : - )
Also, if you really want to support an artist, buying an album digitally probably generates the most revenue for the least cost to them (compared to streaming or physical media).
Great video!I have been using mp3 from ipod to zune and sony for more almost 20 years. I am still using itunes for putting music into my iphone and ipod.
Update. My Sony Walkman died days ago. I believe that I bought it in 2019. I'm getting the Mechen M30. A UA-camr said that the company does not have a website, but I found it. Looks good and great features. : - )
I did the same. Strimming and smartphone is TOO MUCH excessive information and distraction. Ive never been happier with my music experience than the times when mp3s-players were around back in 00s era.
I saw your MP3 player from your edc video and found it on Ali for 50% less than amazon so ordered it. I have the touchscreen nano and its too delecate to throw in a bag or near keys. I love my dumb phone and digital camera. Great videos and cant wait to see more
Awesome. I’m glad you found it cheaper! I need to check aliexpress more often but I’ve been living on EBay for the moment. Thanks for the kinds words and thanks for watching!
I have about 200 CDs (bought mostly from Columbia House) which I have no time to rip or PC to rip with. But I do rip them with iTunes, Apple will consider them Purchased Music and I will be able to stream them without an Apple Music Subscription, I think. Now all I need is a PC and an iPod Classic with Terabytes upon Terabytes of storage to fit them all.
I love streaming! I'll never go back. Just the top played statistics alone is worth it for me. I collect physical but only of my very top fav artists bc no one has money or room for all that lol. Its kinda wild to hear how many people have such struggles with self control. I listen to music all the time w streaming and 95% of the time, im not doing anything but listening. Anything that helps tho 🤷
I did the same thing last October bought a punkt mp02 phone its great but has no music player capability. I use it for hotspot over to my laptop when I want internet at home, got a 50gb prepaid data plan for $34 a month here in Canada it all works great cancelled home internet and cable and lived without music for quite a while but I missed music at work so my solution is even more old school, I bought a ccpocket am/fm radio and a chest harness regular radio still works and keeps me entertained for my work days and I listen to sports games in the evening on it kind of makes up for not having cable tv.
I am thinking of changing to the MP02 since the MP01 is on 2g and doesn’t have a hotspot. I rarely watch TV and have cancelled my streaming services. I really enjoy a more simpler life. Thanks for sharing your setup!
Because my first smartphone (a Galaxy Note 4) was limited by a hoopty data plan (2gigs/month), I never got onto the streaming bandwagon, and continued to use a standalone MP3 player. Also, local files will always outlive licensing agreements on streaming services...as long as you keep backups. I became disenchanted by the various no-name "MP4 player" devices I bought at various computer shows (at the time, most MP3/4 players had capacities maxing out at 2-4GB) due to the way I listened to music. Instead of listening to albums intended to be played in a specific track order (the preference of some earlier commenters), I put all my songs (mostly singles) into one folder and put the player on shuffle, not wanting to know what song was coming next. After awhile, I noticed that I would unconsciously predict which song the player was going to select next. Much to my dismay I found that "shuffle" on these players is only simulated randomization...every time the device was powered up, it would play the _same sequence_ of tracks, and indeed most of the time it would still revert back to sequential order here and there. I finally came around to trying SanDisk's players, first the Sansa (with a click-wheel control) and later settled on the Clip Sport after the Sansa was discontinued. These two differed from most players in that they had a true randomized shuffle mode, and I could finally listen for hours on end and not know what track was to be selected next. On my current Clip Sport I have 1318 songs, and every so often discoveries on UA-cam, SoundCloud (or infrequently, Spotify free) lead me to buy new tracks from Bandcamp or Amazon. I've found only two quirks in the Clip's playback: --if you end your session by leaving the player on pause, allowing it to power down on its own, the next session will be comprised of what you listened to last time. If you manually power it down, the next session will pick up where you left off, with unpredictable track selections going forward. --Album art will only display if the currently playing track changes while the screen is on. If playing track changes while the screen is off (power saving), the next time you wake the screen by tapping any of the controls, you'll only see a placeholder instead of the album art. Also the actual image needs to be 400x400 or less (most mp3's have 500x500 and sometimes 600x600 images). I extract the art with MP3tag, resize them in an image editor, then re-embed them in the file using the same app. Oh, and the spring clip that gives the player its name is a weak spot in the design. At some point one of the ears on the moving portion of the clip _will_ break. I've had to resort to putting a safety pin through the ears on the player's body, then threading one of those snap-on badge clips through it to continue wearing the player clipped to my shirt collar (rather than having it slam-dance with the keys and coins in my pocket)
Thanks for this. I feel the same about the shuffle on some of my devices. Right now I am currently going through all my music and making playlists and mass updating the metadata for each MP3 by removing the track numbers and adding missing information as well as cover art. I am waiting on a refurbished custom ipod to add my music to. It is taking some time but I think by modifying the metadata and creating my playlists I should be okay for a bit until I start to see the patterns of the shuffle 🤞
A month later I happened to run across this and realized a couple of points I left out of my earlier post: --I happened to re-read the manual for the Clip Sport while fact-checking myself in another message, and the _actual_ resolution limit for album art is 480x480. --Yapping about where I buy new music from in the third paragraph, I left out that when I add these new tracks (anywhere from a half-dozen to a couple of dozen at a time) to the Clip and resume listening in shuffle mode, it can be several _weeks_ of daily listening before all the newly-added tracks have played (bear in mind this is after adding them to a folder with 1000+ existing tracks). Makes for a nice surprise now and then since I don't listen to the new additions online once I've made a purchase, allowing them to fall out of familiarity.
I still have me 2 Creative Labs X-Fi Portable Media Player that I've been using since new in 2009. Despite today's modern technology, I still use it and when it's not in use, it reminds in my living room coffee table ready for the next use.

I also want to say that by watching this video I bought amp3 player and I also got a CD player too I want to collect more music I did own a few iPods to and my childhood cds that I still had laying around
It'samazing the positive imapcts of leaving social media. Music is much more enjoyable since I have the attention span to appricate it. I have been going to my local library for CDs and it has been great. My family also gifted me some old CDs and they had some great 90s music that I was looking for.
I git that for my friend for her birthday it is a lovely device that has gotten her back into listening to music. Me I use the Fiio M11 Plus, it does have Wifi if you use it as an android device but I just set it to music mode. I have a ton of CDs, like a ridicules amount from my father who bought CDs as his treats to himself, my mother who bought them for the multiple car trips a year, or mine which I also have several hundred from my childhood or I bought after getting back into just listening to music. Spotify and other streaming services are great if you are discovering music, however if you are listening to music that are just your tried and true I love this, DAPs/MP3 players are the way to go.
I bought an mp3 player recently because I was sick of spotify putting ads everywhere and the fact that if I played my playlists on my phone it would have permanent smart shuffle on (I don't have premium and since I'm a minor I have to get my parents to pay for it and they don't want to so there's that) and so often it would pull something like putting sad songs in my happy playlist or happy songs in my sad playlist I mostly listen to the same playlists/albums over and over again, sometimes creating new playlists if I see a new song I like on social media but I mostly come back to the same artist or playlist I made. I don't like having random new songs being put in those playlists most of the time so the mp3 player was a good option. I also like that it's a 1 time payment and I have it forever until it breaks, I don't need my parents permission to keep my listening experience since the player is already paid for. Though it does feel a bit weird when using it in the school bus where everyone is using a phone and wireless earbuds to listen to music meanwhile me with my mp3 player and wired earphones, but honestly I love how small and portable it is too, wrap my earphones about it when at the destination, throw it in my bag and don't have to worry about it cause it's only for music
It's great that you got an MP3 player! Spotify premium gets old fast so you are not missing out, at least you can have your own custom playlists without mixing genres or moods. I bet the other kids in the bus will be asking you about your MP3 player since its not something anyone sees anymore. Good on you for finding a solution and being independent of digital streaming services!

The reason the word 'podcasts' is what it is, is because of the existence of the iPod that came before it. People seem to think that podcasts are a semi-new thing, but they have been a downloadable radio show for over two decades. iPods helped the rise of the podcast...
I completely forgot about this. I remember when they came out on iPods but there weren’t many options since only bigger organizations could produce podcasts. This would be an interesting video topic 🧐
Spotify just rolled out a single household family plan so now if you have friends who share a family plan, you can’t listen to Spotify anymore. It’ll kick you off. I am so buying an MP3 player and owning my music. Down with the subscriptions!!!!
I know, I am really bummed about this. It's getting harder to work around these streaming services when it comes to Podcasts. Due to this I am not listening to podcasts much anymore.
It's decent but honestly I've been using an old blackberry more. It's a bit heavy and it lacks functionalities that I would like, such as creating playlists. The battery life leaves more to be desired.
You don't need itunes if you aren't using overpriced proprietary apple junk. Just drag and drop from your file menu. Windows explore makes it quite easy, or a file app on a phone or other android device. Make a folder that you use to add tunes you like. Then select the contents folder to transfer to the player, or to an extra drive card that you can then insert into the player. It's a shame people dispose of some of their freedom by paying for streaming stuff they probably already own, and having some other program select what you can hear. I use cheap mini MP3 players for working outside where I'm not going to risk messing up a phone I need or an expensive device, and cheap earbuds like the great Panasonic ergofit that sound as good as any buds out there for a lot less money.
Another option is to use a music management program like MediaMonkey to manage the music on your player. You can set it up to automatically sync the songs you want to your player. As an example, I have it set to load any song rated 4 stars or higher to my player's MicroSD card.
Came back after two weeks with my Menchen and the music quality is phenomenal. I paired it with some HD earbuds and the quality vs. my Apple Music is phenomenal. I'm hearing all the little bits of music that made me fall in love with music all over again. I'm also a CD hunter and finding $1 CDs at the thrift store - can't replicate the excitement. Now to find a decent CD player.
@LauraMalvoyante I got the KZ EDX Pro Metal Wired Earphones from Ali for $15AUD that were $50 on amazon. I'm so in love that music sounds better now. Would love to see a video if you get to find a cd player. I'm using my blueray player but the interface and remote are so unusable.
@LauraMalvoyante if I find a good one I'll let you know. I got a Bluetooth transmitter from Ali too for about 5$ so am going to test them paired with a walkman
One way to do it is to use a music management program to create playlists. Most of them will allow to create, load, and sync playlists to your player. Also, some have the ability to create AutoPlaylists where you just select the criteria and it will create a playlist of songs that match that criteria (such as songs from 1985).

Good luck on your music journey!
you aren't the only one sweet lady. I also use a mp3 player not because i want to be an old school. but to enjoy the music from the depth.
Wow that's a lot of music! I'll check out the Hiby R4 too, thanks for the tip.
Thankful I found your channel. Nice to see you doing the same as me, for improving our mental health and for me productivity ❤
Thanks!
Love the channel, I hope to see more as time goes on!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
thumbs up for the use of the word "hyperlink" after 2010! :D
Showing my age 😅
Yesterday morning, I bought that Mechen on Ali Express for $37.xx plus tax. I woke up this morning at 5 AM, checked my email and found that my new FLAC player is shipped. By the way, for the past two weeks, the player was sold for $4x.xx. : - )
That's a great price! I bought mine for way more. Hope it arrives soon and enjoy!
Also, if you really want to support an artist, buying an album digitally probably generates the most revenue for the least cost to them (compared to streaming or physical media).
I agree. I buy music digitally when I can. Everyone takes a cut when they post on streaming platforms.
I got an old LG V20 phone that I've been using as a dap with its awesome internal quad DAC/amp along with a 1TB micro SD card for storing FLAC files.
Wow I envy you being able to use a 1TB SD card!
It looks like the podcast option doesn't work anymore since Google podcasts was retired and replaced with UA-cam music.
I saw this. It's a bummer. I'll be looking for other ways but honestly I've stopped listening to a lot of podcasts since leaving Spotify anyway.
RIP to you Sony Walkman. I got my Mechen on Amazon but I'm glad you found their website. I'll have to check it out.
@LauraMalvoyante love your vids!! Very aligned with my journey.
@@ExplorationB thanks! Good luck on your journey too!
Thank you for your content, I do appreciate that.
You can also download the podcasts automatically using the RSS function available for most podcasts.
Its really easy. Your email client can do it. Its like receiving an email of podcasts when they are published.
I started to buy cd’s again. Also music for mp3 player can be bought on bandcam.
Thanks for the tip!
I've found only two quirks in the Clip's playback:
--if you end your session by leaving the player on pause, allowing it to power down on its own, the next session will be comprised of what you listened to last time.
A month later I happened to run across this and realized a couple of points I left out of my earlier post:
--I happened to re-read the manual for the Clip Sport while fact-checking myself in another message, and the _actual_ resolution limit for album art is 480x480.
Helpful video, thank you very much .
I still have me 2 Creative Labs X-Fi Portable Media Player that I've been using since new in 2009. Despite today's modern technology, I still use it and when it's not in use, it reminds in my living room coffee table ready for the next use.
That’s great! I should keep my devices on my coffee table more so that I don’t forget about them. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video. I wasn’t sure about podcasts. I am doing the same thing.
Google podcasts may be gone by now but others have recommended some good ways to get Podcasts through RSS feeds and more. I need to do an updated version of this video 😊
@@LauraMalvoyante Thank you. Found the RSS feed web link and have been listening to podcasts all day. I forgot you actually had to do a little bit of work to do this stuff back then. But hey, I grew up with cassettes
@@Ticonderoga-vs5ot at least we have the skills to do the work. I remember recording songs off the radio onto my cassettes 😄
I've been using an mp3/mp4 player for about 3 years now
Plus, if you really wanna listen to new songs and music before you buy them UA-cam is free!! Thank you for posting this video. I really need to get into trying to figure out how to download music.
So true. I do this before I decide on buying new releases and seeing if the album is worth it 😄
Since I got rid of social media 6 months ago I want to listen to more songs and album from the library you for got to say that U can get music from them for free if people are on a budget.
For those people who have a Zune like me, I found out that the zune software can still download podcasts from RSS feeds. 😉
Wow, can you still get the Zune software for Windows 10 and 11?
@@JamesMincey it still works great on windows 11 although you need a driver from 2008 since the latest drivers are broken.
I found my mom's old siren mp3 and im so happy to be able to play my music without running out my terrible phone battery down
I git that for my friend for her birthday it is a lovely device that has gotten her back into listening to music.
I bought an mp3 player recently because I was sick of spotify putting ads everywhere and the fact that if I played my playlists on my phone it would have permanent smart shuffle on (I don't have premium and since I'm a minor I have to get my parents to pay for it and they don't want to so there's that) and so often it would pull something like putting sad songs in my happy playlist or happy songs in my sad playlist
I mostly listen to the same playlists/albums over and over again, sometimes creating new playlists if I see a new song I like on social media but I mostly come back to the same artist or playlist I made.
Good on you for finding a solution and being independent of digital streaming services!
i have this one and i have about 28 hundred songs note its not limted at all you can add more if you wand and all you have to get is a bigger sd card
just make sure they are mp3 format and can make folders
its great and it works with a Bluetooth radio !!!!, but the mp3 will get warm and shut off if its like in the summer
Wow that's a lot of songs and good to know for the SD card size 👍
So excellent 👌

You can’t beat the sound on a Sony. The W series looks like an interesting device.
i did the same thing only i already had huge mp3 collection on my PC there are very good inexpensive players like Hiby R3 II and others like for IEMs and not so hungry headphones
I can’t believe I waited so long to switch. I also found my mp3 collection by accident while looking through an old hard drive. I’ve been using my old BlackBerry Q10 for an mp3 player recently 🤣
Haven't paid any attention to music of any kind, since early Napster pre-morpheous, days. Bc Trojans ate 2 desktops that had 10 entire lifetimes of music in them😂.
Now. I have a tiny, cheap, mp3 player, and need some music on it, bc my phone gets too hot, in the cover on my motorcycle, and i dont wanna keep it in my pocket. Hoping the mp3 player, will not overheat.

Nice, i did the same last months
The reason the word 'podcasts' is what it is, is because of the existence of the iPod that came before it. People seem to think that podcasts are a semi-new thing, but they have been a downloadable radio show for over two decades. iPods helped the rise of the podcast...
I completely forgot about this. I remember when they came out on iPods but there weren’t many options since only bigger organizations could produce podcasts. This would be an interesting video topic 🧐
I still use a tiny sandisk mo3 player fits in my shirt pocket
I never done a streaming service
I admire your dedication and resistance. I wished I had never fell into the money position t of streaming. Lesson learned 😅
My mp3 player has a speaker just like my phone but doesn’t sound as good.
incredible!!!
Spotify just rolled out a single household family plan so now if you have friends who share a family plan, you can’t listen to Spotify anymore. It’ll kick you off. I am so buying an MP3 player and owning my music. Down with the subscriptions!!!!
What?! This is what happened to Netflix as well. The whole subscription system is a scam. Good luck on your MP3 player journey!

Is that a good mp3 player?
It's decent but honestly I've been using an old blackberry more. It's a bit heavy and it lacks functionalities that I would like, such as creating playlists. The battery life leaves more to be desired.
@@LauraMalvoyante thank u
As an example, I have it set to load any song rated 4 stars or higher to my player's MicroSD card.
still us my zune 30gb

@@LauraMalvoyante thanks. i have 3900 songs. this should be fun smh.
One way to do it is to use a music management program to create playlists. Most of them will allow to create, load, and sync playlists to your player. Also, some have the ability to create AutoPlaylists where you just select the criteria and it will create a playlist of songs that match that criteria (such as songs from 1985).
