Broke my lens filming this video. It was so windy on that ridgeline and I didn't weight down my tripod... Make your you check out Dave's video on 10 creative uses for the D4 DUO ua-cam.com/video/_L204xMjL2s/v-deo.html
Oh no! What lens?
@@PhillipSkraba The Panasonic 8-18. Also smashed a Polar Pro PM Variable ND.
@@JevenDovey Oh damn, that's a pain, especially with the PM on it! Hopefully it's fixable 🤞🏻
Jeven Dovey That makes for an expensive mic review.
Hope the views pay for it.
Great concept, but I can hear a lot of noise in the background and occasional cutouts. I hope rode makes their own version. But, again. the idea is pure genius for us content creators.
Jeven, so good to see you back with video. U’ve been busy new father! _LOVE_ everything about this video-informative, clear, demonstrative, emphatic, and cool lighting (esp in the rock overhang). Cheers, brother! 💛😎
Thank you so much... I love how you illustrated the versatility the extra input.
Thanks a lot for this video.
I'm sold on this bad boy! I'll definitely be picking one of these up! Very informative video, thanks man!
Great review Jeven, thank you ! And many thanks to the people at Deity for ANOTHER great product. It doesn't tilt the Earth upside down, but they always come with such clever ideas.
Which makes me think : what if all microphone manufacturers would include an external input in all their products ?
That would have many good sides to it :
- less gear ( = less waste + less energy + less pollution + less [everything])
- less weight to carry
- less hassle when setting up for filming
- less worries about forgetting stuff at home/office
- less money spent (but similar benefits for them)
- a tiny do-it-all microphone, perfect as a backup if everything fails (even usable on a handle for interviews)
etc.
I love the mix between studio & nature clips!!!🤩
Makes it even better than only talking in a studio!!!
Thank you for sharing how to separate two audio tracks (from each mic) in post-edit. Very useful.
This video was the first one to pop up and give me the exact answers I needed. thank you for the videos that you put out. now im excited to go out there and start recording with this microphone. Thank you again
I have the Rode Videomicro and use it when I'm out and about vlogging and it's great, but this, with the dual microphone on it, simple but genius! Thanks Jeven 🔥
What he said 👆😎
This is what I have been looking for. Going to order it now. Thanks!
Thanks for the great review. Convinced me to reorder one. Much appreciated
Great video and great detailed explain for featured of this mic, well done man!
Thanks for this review! I was looking into getting a Rode mic for my camera and looking at the different models, but your video made me go order the Deity right away. Also I really love the video production quality you have here!
Hey finally a good review on these. Title is slightly clickbait but content is top notch. Great effort explaining how to work with the double audio tracks! thank you!
Microphone seems like a really good alternative. Your baby is too adorable. Great job on both!
This video was really helpful, I was between them both, now I have a clear idea of which to get
Very helpful! Thank you my bro!
Thank you! Didn't know about this wondrful microphone at all! ))
Great advice and tips. Thanks!!
dude this mic is game changing!
I wish I had found this video before I purchased the VIDEOMICRO! Oh well I'm glad I did at all because I just purchased the DEITY D4 DUO thanks to you, awesome review!!
Great vid! This mic rocks! Baby was the best part :)
This is great! Thanks for this video! Taking notes for my own content 😁
Finally! A solution I've been looking for. Just started my channel and I'm using the RODE Videomicro and most of the time, I flip the camera back and forth when vlogging and missing the audio when I'm talking behind the camera...
Amazing stuff Jeven !
Brilliant review, thank you.
Thank you for this video Jeven! I'm a filmmaker and sound mixer myself and will be going on a trip to San Diego soon. Thought I should look into getting a DSLR microphone that's affordable and has many beneficial features. I appreciate your honest thoughts on the microphone and the specific details you mention.
Many thanks for sharing. Very useful
Thanks for the Review I always use the Rode but I will check it out
Yea been waiting for something like this. I’ve messed up so much behind the lens explanation videos by forgetting to flip my mic. Also wearing out my mount by snapping in and out.
Wow, #5 is super cool. Nice to be able to add a wireless mic to the setup.
I was just looking to buy rode Mic and decided I need the deity d4 duo. Thank you for this video!
Always enjoy your vids really explained well..
It just makes sense, doesn't it? Like the simple idea of putting a second screen on the front of the DJI Osmo Action, You open the device up to so many more use cases. I enjoyed your video and the ideas you put forward in it. You've got people thinking! (Great scenery by the way)
Great review. Thanks
Great Video Bro 😎👍
Excellent video, this is a great choice for me.
You point out some interesting differences to consider, thanks!
Great review. I was actually about to go buy it and saw it was only available in July off B&H. Bummer, it really did check all the boxes for me. Comparing even the front facing audio with stereo to the rode micro (which I use) it sounded better. The back microphone would be huge for my vlogging style, which is very observational. Many times I have to angle my face to hit the front halo of the Rode.
Dude just get it from the website
Awesome video. I just pre ordered one.
This video was very informative and helpful.👍
Awesome video Jeven. I might just get this mic.
Love the option to plug into this thing. Sold!
great idea, but a lot of background noise. The Rode Wireless GO II still looks the best option for me. 👍
Thanks Jeven for this review. I will buy this one instead of the rode. The scenery was beautiful by the way!
Preordered this on day one!
Is there an easier way to make the mono files into stereo on fcp? I guess it's okay for a few clips but if you have like 100 200 clips in a video, it can be really time consuming to make both mono clips into 4 stereo clips.
Good question
Final cut and Davinci Resolve overlap a lot in functionality in a lot of ways so hopefully they do here also. In resolve you can set the track behavior so that all clips on that track function the same way. Huge time saver.
Great review. I know which mic I’ll be getting to use for my Gopro9 vlogs. Only thing that wasn’t entirely clear was the post work involved but i guess that depends on the software being used. Thanks!
Very good info well done
I have been waiting for this mic for ages, never understood why companies didn't get that youtubers narrative a lot of stuff.i pre ordered mine from diety week or so ago
I have been wanting a first shot gun mic for a month now and was going to get the rode micro but my hang up was talking behind the camera. I do that a lot for my videos. This looks like it this took care of that. Preorder from your link thanks.
This is so detailed omg thank you!! after the sound comparison I decided to go for Deity, sounds so much better than the Rode
Great, great. Thank you!
Will the dual mono mode work on an iPhone 13 with the TRRS to lightning cable or adapter?
Game changer 💯
I almost bought the rode if i did not watched this video!! I need this duo mic since i am filming with someone ! ❤️ this!!
I’ve always wondered if there was a shotgun mic that offered a two-way mic for that exact purpose: capturing front and rear audio. Gotta add this one to the wishlist.
Wow! That mic is really cool
I’m not in the market for a microphone but if I were...? Great video sir
Is that hiss coming from the D4 Duo, too?
Probably having to boost the audio on camera
Great video... I know what my first mic will be soon...
This thing is total dope !!!!
It’s a cool piece of gear
Thanks for this! Diety sounded a bit more full with more low end response in comparison to Rode.
With FCP you don't have to duplicate the audio track. You can expand the audio and access and edit each channel independently without detaching and duplicating the audio. You can do this on a clip basis or turn on audio lanes for the whole timeline.
Used affiliate link. Great review. Can’t wait till the release it!
Awesome, thank you!
Last i watched on juvey, He got 100k subscribers but now, Big improvement man Congrats
I’m sold! It just makes more sense.
I had the Rode videomicro.. just ordered the deity d4duo.. I just wanted another solid compact mic especially for work trips where my space is limited but want better than the camera's own mic.
Teamed up with my tascam dr10l & lav would make it easier to sync with cleaner audio
Great video Jeven. Is the shock mount on the Deity just as annoying as the one for the Rode? I get so sick of having to re-attach that tiny little screw that fixes the mount to the hotshoe clip. Drives me mental.
Great review, but the winner is the lav mic you used briefly at 6:23...
I'm getting one as soon as it comes out.
Just to clarify - if you have only the front mic on when recording, do you HAVE to split it in post production in order to hear it on the right and left side (on headphones)?
Great video, can you connect the mic to a laptop? For example if your using a brio for your camera and not a conventional camera/cellphone. ?
Great vid, really enjoy the comparisons. Can you make a vid on using this mic on a smartphone? I have Android (Samsung Galaxy S8 plus) and I'm considering getting this mic. Thanks.
Having an input to add a wireless receiver is genius. So much more compact than a L/R splitter cable
Such a rad feature! This and a Rode GO is the perfect combo for a ton of flexibility without carrying a bunch of gear.
Rode go is the perfect
Thanks for the video, thumbs up! Question please. Is it true this mic has -10dB lower gain for the rear mic versus the front? If so, is it possible to turn off the -10dB so that both front and rear mics have the same recording level?
Yes i would like to go for DEITY D4 DUO
Hi There! Thank you for this video, it’s great! I’m wondering, as far as using a wireless mic with this, do you think I could use the Deity Wireless Mic Lav system with the Duo 4?
Wonderful video, thanks to share it. I use Lumix GH6, do you know it and its ampli? In your opinion can I use Deity nic.? However, I never have to speak in front of the microphone (no vlogging), I only make documentaries but not in the city. I shoot working people in the open and remote countryside.Would you use a wind protection? Then .... I don't understand well the difference between Deity D4 Mini and Duo? Which is better for normal use? Thanks.
beautiful little baby - congratulations
Ah the dream solution I've always wanted! and the fact that I can plugin my Rode Wireless Go is awesome! Now, where the heck do I get it in the UK?! XD
Good content!! Can you confirm that it works with a GoPro 8/9?
Looks like a great mic and a real competitive option to the rode. Did I win the m50 in the Jevev 500kdreamkit?
Thanks Another reviewer noted that you cant use the Deity with a smartphone iphone even with an adapter?
Hi.
What would be great is if this mic could cross-reference both sound sources to give a noise reduction function. So, if your vlogging into the front mic, its recording both your voice and noise. At the same time the other mic is recording just noise. Therefore it's an algorithm away from using one sound source to cancel out the noise in the other.
Front mic is a bit hissy thou, doesn't like "S's"
With the cable that comes with it, can I use it on my cell phone?
Thank you for the review and info. Will this mic work well with an extension cord? I would like to use it as a boom mic, but I tried another brand and got a lot of noise when I used a 2 meter cord.
Not sure if it was already commented. But you are supposed to clip the mic wire into the grooves of the cold shoe nut..
Watching here Jeven. I lik e the 2 windscreen.
With my content I constantly flip between things I'm working on/looking at and myself. This should work great for me.
Awesome video...can this be used on the Insta360 One x2 using its mic adapter
Put cross fade audio transitions inbetween your hard cuts to get rid of that crackling sound inbetween clips 🤙
HUGE pet peeve!
@@RachelinRealLife haha he Normally does put them in but this vid was frustrating to watch at the start
The front mic sounds better than the back mic to me. Thanks for posting....
Hey Jeven - love yer videos - the Deity should work on the dji pocket 2 right? it's a trs 3.5mm. I guess I was curious if it was short enuf for the pocket not to see it? Thanks ahead of time for any info.
I feel that in the sound comparison at the end, the Rode picked up your S's way more.
Keep it real Jeven you dude
Can a blue yetti mic can be used with ither one?
So apparently it's still on pre-order. Any idea when it will actually be available?
Deity’s website states: “ Shipping August 13th.” Can’t wait!
Perfect timing. I'm looking at options to upgrade my mic.
