Dude, I got into the Tardis and went back in time to watch your historical video. Deity have changed the design of their dead cat and are much better at wind noise reduction so I bought one.
I use the Tascam DR10's with lav for most of my audio. It's so much better than using camera audio or camera with a shotgun on top. I have two of the Tascam so I can do with interviews or vlog with my wife ... works great. I have rigged up a 2 mic version of the Duo .. but never used it.
Rode Videomicro is vastly superior, in my experience. The Deity windscreens are a joke. I'll just keep swiveling my Rode back and forth...sound quality is so much better
The Deity is perfect for outside (better than the Røde). Too echoey inside though. Perhaps if you soundproofed the living-room? I’d try sticking a few packing foams on the walls and start testing. Could be the subject of a new tutorial?
Casey, if you are using Premiere, have you tried going to the audio tab and clicking “clean up noisy dialogue”? That will kill so much of the traffic noise in my experience. (I see after continuing that you are using Resolve. If you have access to Premiere, give it a go).
You can use both the front shotgun and plug a lav into the mic at the same time with the Deity. I'm pretty sure Jeven Dovey said something like that in his video. That way you could have good audio for you but also catch the stuff people say as they walk by. But I suppose you could do the same with the Rode and a splitter cable. Also does the dead cat from the Rode fit the Deity?
Dude! if you switch the back mic to off I'm assuming you would get left and right channel combined through the front mic. and vice versa if you switch the front Mic to off. The only time you would have separate left and right channel is when you have both Mics activated Or when you have a mic plugged into the external Jack?
Anyone with a cable/adapter solution for use together with smartphones ? I know that "TRS to TRRS" adapters exists, but I am told that these won't work, since smartphones only use a mono microphone signal. What is necessary is some kind of "audio interface" built into an adapter, that samples the analog stereo signal and transfers it to the smartphone through USB/lightning. Kan anyone think of such a solution ?
07:54 - we are so lucky that horror monster tree didn't instantly kill you with its lethal deceitful beautiful green leaves, dude. praise the forest god, o lord. lol, thx for sharing, have fun, aum, s love nia.
Rode Sounds much richer on all models than Deity. But for walk on loud streets and camera rotation lav is better. Except you need to record sound from the front of your camera while you stand behind
Imho this is one of your best videos ever. Please go exploring the ancient canadian jungle and ruins more! Btw Rear-facing sound of the Deity is awesome, I think the Lav-mic has a little too much emphasis on the lower frequencies (no it does not make you sound more manly).
Kasey you should look into how shotgun mics work, it would help you to understand the performance differences you might encounter. Basically the slits on the side are where the background sound comes in, which then gets cancelled out from the subject's sound coming in the front. The distance from each slit to the end of the shotgun mic (where the capsule is) corresponds to a frequency that gets cut out, so the longer the shotgun mic the more effective it is at cancelling out frequencies. Low frequency things like truck engines have wavelengths way too long to be cut by the shotgun mic's interference tube, so they won't be much help.
Thanks for sharing. I was mainly interested because the wind muff didn't seem to help very much, and I was wondering if those slits were exposed, but even when they were fully covered I got wind noise.
@@cameraconspiracies Well the problem with wind-noise on a shotgun mic is that even if you cover up the mic capsule itself with a windshield, any other exposed part of the mic housing - or possibly even the mount and the camera itself - can conduct the low frequency rumble through to the capsule and get picked up. I believe that is part of the reason there are "blimp" style shotgun mic covers.
Sounds similar to the Sairen T-Mic Vlog Microphone. The back sounds better than the front when switched to dual mode. But, when just only on front mode, it sounds louder and better. I'll be doing my own tests with the Deity because I bough one, and Sairen sent me their "version 2 firmware" of the T-Mic. We'll see how it goes when I get the Deity D4 Duo. Hey, maybe have it on dual mode but flip the mic backward. That way, when you're recording your face, the back mic is being used and it would sound better. And, when flipped to the opposite side, the front mic will be closer to your face and sound louder. :)
