All that with a herniated disk! She’s a goddess!!! I need her as elphaba again. No one in the history of wicked has bright the house down like Jessica Vosk!
I agree 100%.. Unfortunately she said on a "live feed" that it was vocally and physically exhausting and that she would never do it again.. But even still she is the best voice to ever grace the Wicked/Broadway stage!
Jessica Vosk is the only singer I have ever had the privilege of hearing both in-person and on recordings like these where...how do I put this...if somebody asked "What does the cleanest of glass, or the smoothest of ice sound like?" - I would, without question, answer "THIS WOMAN RIGHT HERE!" And she's SO. DAMN. FUNNY! I think she'd make a great stand-up comic on a whim if she felt like it. She's also just lovely in how she describes the privilege of playing the role for the 15th Anniversary, and what the character of Elphaba means to her. Her friends are lucky - she's the friend everybody wants to spend time with and she knows it.
That riff at the end of "The Wizard and I" ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!!!! The only thing that would have made this video absolute perfection would be if she did "No Good Deed" to end the show!
The tech team from wicked on broadway has to update their flying rig, the glinda bubble & elphaba charry picker. There might be a no fly for Glinda soon if her bubble keeps malfunctioning.
@@scottspector6094 The cherry picker lift, Karie Ellis was the one that her life flashed before her. The lift starts to move higher she wasn’t safely strapped in. Since then the term was no fly show.
@@Pianorockstar_ i'm pretty sure the safety of the cast (especially those flying) is #1 priority to the technical staff. that's why there are "plan b's" there are daily checks, i'm sure, before showtime to make sure that all is working safely. sometimes, there are issues & that's live theatre for ya.
That’s less of a orchestra issue and more an audio guy issue. The orchestra is (or should be) unamplified, but she is. Turn her up! You can’t change the volume of an orchestra without changing how they sound.
Sounds like it was more of a camera issue. Sometimes cameras are “selective” in the audio they record in an attempt to normalize sound and minimize blowouts, and also depends on where this POV was sitting. That last note in Defying Gravity seemed to let you hear exactly how loud her voice was compared to the orchestra. Probably because she started singing that last note before the orchestra comes in, so the camera’s microphone magnetized toward that. But because this music is so percussion/drums heavy that the microphone would magnetize towards that and normalize the volume at that level, basically making the vocals almost muted. Cameras are not always the best at capturing audio acoustically which is why different audio bootlegs from the same Broadway theatre can often sound so different even though the show is EQ’d the same every day. You wouldn’t be able to hear exactly how it sounds unless you were actually there.
Please pass the tape for the mouths of people who sing along and ruin it for the rest of us. No one pays to hear the audience sing at shows. Would be lovely if people who outgrow the virus of selfishness
@@mrbroadwaydork if you want to spend your money to hear random non-singers sing, fine. I pay to hear the artist sing. It is rude and utterly selfish to think the rest of us care to hear you sing. But it seems with everyone born after 2000 selfish is just somehow a part of DNA.
It’s crazy how emotionless and dead in the eyes some of the orchestra looks lol like damnnnn you are making music ….making art and you literally look dead behind the eyes. so sad to see but at least elphaba was into it lol the Chinese girl behind her clearly was NOT. 😂😂😂
Pro orchestras are not as used to playing pops music, and it can feel awkward for some of them. I went through conservatory--most classical musicians are hyper-serious. Theater is a different game and different set of people.

I wish there was a live cast album of wicked with her as elphaba. Or she would record all the wicked songs. 💚💚💚💚
OKAAAAY that riff at the end of Wizard and I sent me to HEAVEN and BACK like this woman is GODLY GIFTEDDDD
There is simply no other voice like Vosk's that could bring a song to life like she does. Truly magic. AND with a herniated disk no less?!! 🧹🎆💚
Love Jessica!!! Saw her first night on Broadway!! So talented!!!
Still the most phenomenal Elphaba. There's others with nice voices, but they don't have the clean sound Jessica has. Healthy, clean and gangbusters
This! ^^^^^^
Doing the lord’s work, thanks for posting this!

This is the 1st you tube video of the bubble malfunctioning
Came for Jessica Vosk, stayed for the adorable percussionist over her right shoulder
Wish the orchestra wasn’t so loud so we could hear her better, she’s amazing!!

She specifically asked them to sing if they knew the words, and said she'd be offended if they didn't...
