I agree. I have the key fob and it is great. To use my iphone, I need to run the Tesla app, so I prefer the key fob, plus the fob makes it easy to open the trunks. And is easy to give it to someone so they can drive my car.
If you want the best experience with your phone app… go to settings … tesla app … location … always allow! It works the best way in that way. I use an iPhone for my M3.
My preference: ① Phone (android) - it goes everywhere with me. No extra item to carry around. I have had no issues. ② Key card - it's thin and fits in my minimalist wallet front pouch. Wallet goes everywhere with me. ③ Key fob - I only use it for valet. Otherwise, it is an extra item to log around. ④ Key ring - sounds interesting but that's one too many rings to wear.
I bought the Key Fob when I bought my car two years ago, and I just remembered I had it after watching your video. I keep the card always in my wallet, but I only used it when I upgraded my iPhone and when I made a factory reset to my iPhone or when I gave the car to the service. Sometimes the car doesn't recognize my phone until I take it out of my pocket but it doesn't happen a lot.
It’s good to know I’m not the only one experiencing difficulties with the app key! I have an iPhone 12 pro and I have to open up the app almost every time I want to unlock. it’s so embarrassing when I walk up to my Y and try to open the door and I’m locked out, and sentry mode starts recording me!
I have an Android phone and had minimal issues with the app. I have the key fob though and I like it way more! I chose to deactivate my phone key though because I wasn't comfortable with the range it worked at and (probably being too paranoid) feared someone could just unlock my car if I happened to be close enough
The key fob is my favorite as well. But it’s also my wife’s. I don’t want to spend another $150 so the ring is the second most used. I’ve never heard of anyone not using the app at all but better safe than sorry.
LOL, I don't see myself getting the Ring (although it is pretty cool and just saw other videos about it). Did not know it even existed. Like you said, we have 2 key cards, if you buy the FOB key, or have the Tesla App on your smart phone. The FOB is pretty cool, because we can do a several more things on the Vehicle besides just opening driver side door and starting the car. Some say some smart phones may not reliable at times having connectivity problems with the Tesla vehicle. I will find out how my Smart phone works when I get my new Model Y in August. I will probably also get the FOB key. Thanks for your great video. Take care.
I use a draw-pattern to start my phone and I find I sometimes (but not always) have to activate the phone first with the pattern. Tried the ring, didn't work reliably. Returned it. And even the key card sometimes doesn't work immediately, have to slink it around a couple times. I just use the phone. Since I have keyless entry to my house, I rarely carry keys at all. I'm not buying a fob. No way. I would prefer the key card if it just worked from inside my wallet, but I always have to take it out to make it work, so that's a big fat minus. Like your video, very comprehensive.
have u had any problems with the key card or ring sliding off the cup holder area when you’re driving? or is it magnetized or something to hold it in place? it doesn’t look super secure since it’s just placed on a flat surface and I’m worried it’ll slip into one of the seat cracks
Its weird that if you leave phone key inside car you can lock from outside with the key card but the vehicle can still be unlocked and started because phone is inside.
Really like the color of the Model 3 in this video. Is it the Midnight Metallic Sliver or a custom wrap? If it is the metallic silver are you happy with it or do you have concerns??
DRIVE Electric for Tesla app for Wear OS combines NFC, Bluetooth and internet. Works as both a key card and a key fob. Turns your smartwatch into a fast and reliable key for only 10$.
The phone r is the overall best. I have an android (samsung) and it has never failed to open the car as I approach it. We carry our phone everywhere with us so we always have access to the car. No need to carry anything else
Great common sense video. I'm buying my first Model Y and wanted to know what the Fob does. I will buy a Fob and a ring. The ring seems like a great safety device if your phone dies or you misplaced your FOB/card. Also nice if you want to go to the beach and not carry extra stuff etc
LOL!! What if you also lose the Ring in your travels or you take it off and lock it in the Tesla trunk, would be a very bad day for sure. Just kidding. But, Kind of like the time I did accidently slam my trunk on my gas car and the keys were inside the trunk. Had to have my parents come with my spare key. Anything can happen.
@@dathyr1 Yes, but why would you take the ring off and put it in your trunk then accidentily lock it? I can see doing that accidently with a key but a ring? Secondly, having 2 ways or more of starting your vehicle decreases the likely hood of you losing all of them. That said, the ring sucks and stopped working LOL
Don't currently have a Tesla but had to watch Kobra! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 As always and man I have say it again your video quality is outstanding. Sigma 16mm is definitely on deck.
I cannot speak on behalf of ring and key fob car as I do not have them .I did not buy key fob because it is not sold at Tesla shop in Australia as they inform us that they have taken out from the store because they are unreliable, customer who bought complain . Similar to ring they are unreliable . Maybe I buy them when I have extra money , right now saving them to buy other extra interior or exterior accessories . There is one other option that most people do not know the Apple Watch band . Again I have feeling it is not effective either. However there is also another way to interact with Tesla like opening the door which third party application Tesla that can open your car with Siri ! It is cheap less than $30 and everyone can open it if they know the command and next to you . U have to constantly open that application before u use. 80% working
Can you set the app on iPhone to not "battery save" or not go to sleep? Make it a priority app. Not sure how much that would impact phone battery, but might solve the locked door problem? (I don't have an iPhone or my Tesla yet so can't test.)
Thanks for the comparison. Is it true that the ring only works some of the time?. Would get the key fob if it came in red. As of now I still use the key card. Peace.
Can i use both phone app and key? But If i don t have the key with me and i use my phone as a key and i park the car,is hot outside,i let the AC on,my girlfriend is inside, and accidentaly i take my phone with me,will the car continue to work? AC and radio and etc? I assume yes
My favorite tesla key is the tesla model 3 card because the tesla model x i dont know where,s the lock button to lock the tesla model x but i know how to lock the tesla model 3 you just put the card on the door and it locks the tesla model 3
@@KobraToldYa we had androids, but just switched to i12’s. It does seem worse and sometimes we have to turn the phones Bluetooth off and on to get it to work.

It’s crazy that a more modern Tesla fob is $150 but my 2011 Audi keyfob costs $600 plus $150 to program it.
Wow!!! Really?

Lol. Yup. But some will argue with me about how wrong I am. Thanks for watching and helping my sanity!
I’ve never had any issue so far. Granted, I’ve only had my 3 since 17 April.
Same here. I have an Android phone and the app key works maybe 70% of the time.

I don’t use the phone key, as it unlocks the car in my drive whilst i am sitting watching tv in the front room.
Wow, how far is that?
Than you for the insight, I was thinking about the ring but now I feel its better to stick with the iPhone app......very interesting !!
Can you leave the phone in the car and lock with a key or card? Airplane mode required?
How do you go surfing or something like that. Probably ring?
BTW, you missed one. The Apple watch can use an app to control the Tesla
I don’t have one. That’s interested to note. Thank you.
You can't warm up the car with the fob? Do a vehicle locator horn honk? Do a panic horn alarm?
No, no, and no

Yes it does. The latest app does so much for the user experience.

Do you have better luck now with iPhone mine seems to be better ?
The car fob is by far the best key and its not even a debate, everything else can be thrown away besides the phone.
