Heck yeah I'm devoting an hour and a half of my life to pcb speedruns.. worth every second! Seriously a full on documentary in the western touhou fanbase is something brand new no one's really done yet, well done!
I think you've managed to find your calling card with this documentary. You have every chance to become the SummoningSalt of Touhou world records. And hey, if it helps to make the west more aware of Touhou score runs and help it branch off beyond its niche borders, then go for it! Brilliant work!
Thank you for putting this well-informed and polished video project together. PCB scoring is very fascinating and, in general, it's nice having a limelight put on Touhou's gameplay scene, esp. regarding its communal achievement histories.
Hope’s this gets the exposure it deserves EDIT: Wow I have to say after watching more this has been a treat . The fact that HS held every world record at some point is insane, I can’t imagine the time and effort that took but also how much it took to research all of this. Thank you for making this video!
Really well made video! Was super interesting to see how strats developed over time. I just want to say, ASAPIN was one of the early WR holders for Touhou games, but he didn't just drop off the face off the Earth once he stopped that. ASAPIN went on to devote a lot of time to playing Japanese mahjong and is currently playing in the pro-league in Japan. He was the first person to reach the rank of "tenhou" on the widest-played online Japanese mahjong platform, and the he did it again for fun becoming the 11th person to reach it. ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9C%9D%E5%80%89%E5%BA%B7%E5%BF%83 ASAPIN is just a great gamer all around and it's always super cool to go back and see him demolish touhou games when he was only about 15 years old.
Just commenting to help out with the algorithm, a video this good deserves it, the amount of effort put into this is incredible, here's hoping you eventually make similar videos for the other games in the franchise
Never would I have imagined when I first heard you in a Crystal Clear playthrough that you would create such brilliant content for and of the Touhou community. This is amazing!
definitely watching this whole thing after work edit: okay i did and it was awesome as expected, this much of taken so much time! also that 4 billion run was awesome was really hoping they would reach that milestone by the end of the video btw i love your thumbnails!
This is exactly the kind of content I've thought had been missing from all STG/Shmups communities. Great job, a lot of effort went into this. Keep it up!
Serious voice: This strat simply known as... "The Stage 4 Opener". 44:44 *proceeds to utterly destroy Asapin's run while Capitol City of Flowers starts playing* Will this be the end of our good friend Asapin? 😳 Haven't finished the video yet but, heck, I wasn't expecting this shonen anime vibes on the hi-score records history of a 18 years old game.
Just finished watching it and yeah really got to give Asprey props in keeping the commentary engaging. Really appreciate the detailed descriptions of each spell card and technique, as well as personal insights on what could had been going through the mind of the player. Great video overall.
oh this is SICK i love world record histories and touhou and this is just both! ik this probably took AGES to put together but id totally be interested in seeing more documentaries into the community like this!
i was just gonna watch a little bit at a time and then I thought "ooo i'll just watch just a little more" and now it's been an hour and a half and i still haven't eaten lunch. thanks a lot for putting out engaging and quality content
Saw the video and went “wow this is cool” then I realized “hey thats the person I followed on twitch”. The video was really good and now I know a little more about Tohou
This was worth the wait! I love hearing about the history of this series. It's crazy how much was preserved from pre-web 2.0 Days. Really good job overall!
Insane work, so much effort for this video, I don't know if you are willing to do other WR history videos for other touhou games, if you did it would be an incredibile feat, congrats on this video
Although a slight nitpick I have with the video is that Asprey keeps calling them "Rice bullets" when that's the name of another type of bullet that they aren't. Rice bullets are for more oval shaped bullets, which in terms of PCB, only really appear in the Extra and Phantasm stages. A more accurate term for the bullet he _calls_ "Rice" would be "leaves", or perhaps more literally by-geometry, "pinched ovals"/"rounded rhombuses".
Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it, and you obviously put a LOT of work into this. Do you mind if I give some (hopefully) constructive feedback? I think that this video has some points that are kinda dull, and this is speaking as someone who really likes TouHou and has played a decent amount of PCB (as well as the other games). You mentioned that you were inspired by Summoning Salt's videos, and one thing which I think that they do really well is manage to make them fun and engaging even if you haven't played the game that they're talking about by adding in more elements of narrative storytelling. Your video was incredibly thorough and well-written and I hope that you make more of this style, but it'd be even better if it was more entertaining and accessible to people who aren't already hardcore-fan.
This is absurdly wild I knew SakuyaB was the best for scoreruns and intentionally so but damn I wasn't expecting her to be able to reach such absurd numbers Really great video, I am super into your content and getting even more invested as you go on Can't wait to see what you will bring next~
Okay, this is some insanely good and detailed shit. Now let's make a 5 hour long video about the history of IN scoreruns Or maybe a 30 minutes long video talking about history of WBaWC scoreruns and 25 of those minutes are talking about Linear Creature
I would love to see LoLK world record history, I only know that in LoLK the player either abused Reisen's fat hitbox with her bomb or Sanae's long duration bomb invisibility to get a lot of graze for the scores
Hi, Asprey! I absolutely love these videos, they're very long and good to use as background noise. I typically use them for playing games like Roblox, (yes I play Roblox, cry about it) especially on Loomian Legacy while I'm just auto-hunting. Thank you for making this video, and have a good day! :D
I was played Touhou Lost words for the story, apparently there's yuyuko's perfect cherry blossom incidents/story, I kinda interested with the story, it took me a while to find the full story on browser until u upload these, boi im really enjoying this whole video
Amazing work! Now do it with Marisa. :P (Seriously though now I want one for IN, my favorite game, but this must have taken so much effort and time, major props)
I honestly thought that the idea of a perfect run in any Touhou game would ideally be similar to a no-deaths no-bombs run. I had no idea bombs actually had a score strategy for them other than survival.
I finally reached reisen without losing lives in touhou 8 and paused a bit to watch this video, as soom as I started it, my pc gave me blue screen of death 10/10 banger video
1.5 hours of touhou content? count me in as much touhou content there is, the games themselves don't have nearly as enough content covering them. -the people who play the game make up like 5% of the fandom-
i've always wanted to make something like this but for LNNs instead edit: also cool bug fact: DRC (dodging rain competition) uses a fictional world record (3.6 billion) for lunatic sakuya B in this game
Cherry was said 122 times in this video
cool, but what about "border"
@@JLippe 'border' was said 296 times
Edit: After counting it again a or two year later, I'd say that the number was actually 302
@@ansyyxux thank you
How many times did Sakuya popped her cherry?

hahahaha
hi perl
Well, more like score-runs in this case, both give the same energy though.

"SummoningSalt of Touhou" Good reference!

eyo where you been?
The cherry and border system is easy to understand, just imagine a bus stop...
...Uh, seatbelts, everyone? D:
I see what you did there
Cool to see one of these videos for Touhou
I also think EoSD, UFO, and LoLK would be great games to make videos on
Ufo would be insane, ddc could be neat too
your channel's existence brings me hope for the content this community needed for so long. keep your superb quality goin' chief
Minute in and already love you quote Prometheus in his Full Extent of the Jam writeup.
Time to grab a snack while watching this.

True

This is unexpected but extremely cool!
And I'm so happy to see some of my friends helped you out on this!
Hope’s this gets the exposure it deserves

also, he came back to Touhou recently, I think he got an LNBNT in Ten Desires a few months ago

The fact that the stage 4 opener was perfectly timed to show at 44:44 CANNOT be a coincidence lmao.
Ah, an hour and a half long video, its a treat.
I didn't realize just how much goes into scoring! This is a great video!
44:45 usually when I see impossible shit like this I tell myself I’ll get this good one of these days but even I don’t think I’ll ever be this good
I didn’t expect this and would love to see more world record progression of Touhou
I've just been rewatching some of SummoningSalt's videos, and then this gets uploaded.
Time to watch some more world record history I guess

I am glad that there are people who make such high quality content in the niche western fanbase of touhou

edit: also cool bug fact: DRC (dodging rain competition) uses a fictional world record (3.6 billion) for lunatic sakuya B in this game
Yusuke actually competed in a DRC and beat the fictional benchmark score, he was confused when that run still ended up being worth 500 DRC points
Considering that, as a newbie, it took me some hair pulling to even 1cc on easy this just seems insane to me.
This is the game I first 1cc and the only one I beat the extra stage!
