This video is directly responsible for my getting seriously involved with pinball. I joined our local pinball league a little over two months later and have been out to almost every league night since. :B
However, Epic Pinball doesn't feel anything like the real thing. In fact, most computerized pinball software doesn't, however as far as overall design is concerned, Epic Pinball is probably one of the best retro pinball programs out there... easily trumped by more modern programs such as Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX 2, but that's a topic for another video. ;)

Additional Information and Corrections:
This program's now available on GOG for $6! It comes with all three original table packs plus the bonus table I don't have myself and thus wasn't able to cover in the video: www.gog.com/ga...
Let me clarify the Excalibur table a little: The rollovers by the flippers light up the starburst lights which indicate which target you need to hit to light up more of the sword. The left rollover activates the left target and the right rollover activates the right target.
Here's a link to the F1 Grand Prix machine on The International Arcade Museum website. Since this episode went live I've found out more about the real machine... it actually plays much differently than the emulated conversion I'd played prior and as such, isn't quite as high on my list anymore of machines to look into collecting if I can ever afford to: www.arcade-muse...
I'm aware that the actual song "Oh Yeah" sounds quite a bit different than what you hear in Cyborgirl, but there's definitely some blatant similarities.
There was actually a different pinball game I was originally going to cover first before this one, but playing through it again was incredibly frustrating due to the physics being really stupid so I wanted to cover a better pinball game first. :P

Thankfully, you CAN get the full version (including a 13th table only on the CD release) from GoG now. Same for both Jazz Jackrabbit games.
Way ahead of you as I added that link to the video description some time ago! ;)
Remember playing this a lot as a kid. Pinball, the ultimate time killer!
This is nice, when someone takes the time to evaluate a pinball simulator in such detail. Classic games, and especially pinball tables, had enormous skill ladders to climb despite the seemingly basic designs on the surface. A decent skill ladder is something very lacking in many games today.
chriskallen1 I went one step further a number of videos later and gauged the accuracy to real life of four of the most well known virtual pinball programs currently out there. ;)
I played this and then Extreme Pinball back in the day. I go Extreme all the way. Sure less tables, but all are fun to play and the music (specially the one from Rock Fantasy) is awesome.
And perhaps is nostalgia, but in my memory Extreme Pinball had better physics overall.
You should check out Psycho Pinball, that was another DOS pinball game that I played a lot back in the day along with Epic Pinball (and Silverball, which is kinda Epic Pinball-lite).
What do you think of Pinball Fantasies or any of the other Digital Illusions games?
***** Actually, I haven't played any of them... yet. :B
***** They're well worth a go. The Amiga version of Slam Tilt probably has the best physics, though Fantasies has the edge in table design, in my view.
***** I'll keep 'em in mind then. :)
Try Pinball Illusions sometime, it may only have a few tables but they're all pretty well done. Avoid Absolute Pinball, it's trash (outsourced to another company).
I still have the floppy disc somewhere for an individual table. The Crash & Burn one.
I'm curious if you got Balls of Steel during the brief periods that it was on sale, and what your opinion on it is. (I got it during that brief period that it was on Steam as part of the 3D Realms Anthology when they could sell it with the Duke Nukem games.)
Nope! Still have not ever played it! :P
@@Pixelmusement Ah, fair enough! :D
I always preferred Pinball Dreams II to this game...
I actually bought this game because of this review. I paid £29 (which currently converts to about $36.20 in US Dollars or $47.30 in Canadian Dollars) for the complete collection on eBay, not using Amazon for one rather amazing reason. A search of Amazon UK produced zero results for Epic Pinball. The £29 eBay offer was the best I could find from a UK seller and shipping on international sale would make them even more expensive. Seems to be quite rare this side of the Atlantic. On the other hand I was able to get the deluxe versions of Pinball Fantasies (mentioned below) on CD-ROM in a jewel case for just £3 and fully boxed floppy disk copies of Pinball Dreams and Pinball Illusions for £18 and £17 respectively.
The game itself though is fantastically enjoyable for the casual pinball player that I am. African Safari (the bonus 13th table) is a bit strange though, in that I'd expect such a table to in some way special, either in style or mechanics, but it isn't. It's just another table, somewhat similar to Toy Factory with widely spaced flippers and what looks like a pin in the middle to stop the ball always going down the drain, except it's actually there. I thought this would make for an improvement over Toy Factory, but then went and played Toy Factory. Guess what? At least on the copy I'm playing, Toy Factory actually does have a pin right there, saving my ball plenty of times. Maybe it was fixed for the complete collection?
I've also noticed a LOT of video and audio skipping in the menus (despite using max cycles on a Core i7-6850K) but then the tables themselves play absolutely perfectly, with no video or audio skipping. No idea what's going on there but at least it's a minor problem.
+AmysFantasies The pinball gameplay uses a different timing/video-blitting method compared to the menu screens, thus explaining why there would be differences like that. :B
you can buy this game gog now if you didnt know
+Andrew Dupuis Yup! I've been slowly tackling getting the Additional Info and Corrections from my website updated and placed into the video descriptions of my older videos, but it's a very slow process. :P
I always thought Pinball 4000 was best pinball for PC DOS...
You & Exoparadigmgamer are the only people I've seen who didn't pronounce IOS as I O S
+Karen Shoemaker My pronunciation of iOS actually flip-flops depending on how I'm feeling. ;)
Its not simulation pinball is arcade pinball, so its pinball, so what is not real, but give lots fun. I dont like "real" pinball.
Real real, just dont play in arcade pinballs if you dont like it. Play pinball FX, Zen and be happy.
Can you talk about Pinball Fantasies? I always disliked Epic Pinball since I used to play Pinball Fantasies.
One of the best? it's not even in the top5 and I am only counting DOS era pinball games
Pro Pinball - any of them - or Extreme Pinball or Pinball Fantasies or a whole bunch of others.
Im not mad but, come on man clickbait?
+MeatBeat ...I don't follow...?
Pixelmusement Oops I wasn't trying to offend you, I was just referring to the woman on tge thumbnail who had her breasts out in a "sexy" maner
+MeatBeat UA-cam auto-generated the thumbnail for this video way back when I uploaded it. It shows up for me as the racecar from Crash and Burn, while on my website its from the Android.table. :P
