      That is mostly because of the higher body fat percentage. It just looks way better and more natural. I don't like the 4% body fat look today at all.

    One big difference between the bodybuilders of the 70s-90 was that they actually looked like celebrities. They had their own look and style. They would catch your interest right away. Unlike the bodybuilders of today that although bigger, they lack the personality and all look the same.

      depends on your metabolism if it's working fast on you then go and put on a few pounds, if not then slow it down

      @@johnaskey4669 Of course they looked ten times better then than now.. but in the 70s, guys in the offseason went of the drugs and got smaller and puffy. Which is not a bad thing at all but Zane in the offseason definitely didn't look close to what he looked like on stage.

      Frank Zane is who I learned about dumbbell pullovers from. It's range of motion just feels amazing for your back, chest and shoulders, I always look forward to that workout.

      @@Danuxsy 1-Genetics. Behind hard work in the gym and with the fork steroids take last place. Most of us could cycle steroids until our liver turned black and wouldnt look like that. They definitely play a factor but it's far from anything close to giving full credit.

They started cycles at 16 or 17 and aren't afraid to tell everyone they did. All 3 things are required but Steroids are FIRST. Need more proof? Look at the Natural Bodybuilding Federations where everyone is tested. Those guys are dedicated 1000% and ZERO are as big or strong as your average Gymshark Instagram Bro.

    There’s a good reason they called that the golden era… I graduated school in 1980 and all those bodybuilders or my idols and was the whole reason why I got into fitness, I’m 60 years old now and I still train because of their influence

    This is actually a really good video. I always have to sift through the interviews to find out what the diets look like and this really helps put together the best of it. Because training is important but not as important as nutrition for success. Just train close to failure, pick what you feel works and you can see a difference and dial that nutrition in!

    if you guys liked this video, i'd like to suggest a book called the Complete Keys To Progress by John McCallum. back when i was really into weight lifting, i followed this book to the letter and went from the low 150's in bodyweight, to 204 pounds and cut down to 185 of eye grabbing muscle no steroids, just lots of food, vitamins and protein supplements.

      Wraith do u talking about it for real man?....sorry but going from 150 to over 200 is f*ng amazing (i mean almost not a real thing possible) so if u made it in real natural way, woww!!
      p.d. : im dont got any clue how u made that fact in natural fit progression....what foods and vits where the main, and what kind of exercise u do, bcause that goal today is hard with roids and u said is just plenty natural so looks unreal!
      anyway, congrats to u man!!

The workouts varied over that time, but I started with almost 2 years on deadlift, squat, bench press, bent row, behind the neck press and that got me some serious size. The food was the hardest part, because even tho I was younger and could eat the world, I wasn't prepared for how much food was consumed on this program. I did 4 meals plus drank a gallon of what the writer called "the get big drink" a day. Back in the day I used Twin Labs amino fuel, Met-Rx and a natural testosterone booster( don't remember the brand name). Now I'm 50, do, mostly, calisthenics and weigh about 170.     Man this helped me a lot especially he 5:21 was talking about carbohydrates if you eat enough it it helps you get bigger I think I forgot but it was very informative tho g cuz I’ve been wondering why do I look big but don’t keep my big frame look cuz after an hour it goes down

      I learned in school that carbs are the best energy source for workouts - fats usually get used up after the carbs. That’s why keto works for losing weight, because you’re only using the fats as an energy source. But definitely not the healthiest way imo especially if you’re trying to gain size.

      PEDs don't amplify test production, but replace endogenous test. So since the testes don't need to produce testosterone they shrink.

    Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, oatmeal, vegetables and milk 50s to 60s bodybuilding in a nutshell , and training 3 to 4 times per week but PPL Split is easier to handle for many people wich began in the 70s

      You can’t naturally maintain that level of mass and leanness year round. And no it’s not healthy. Your body needs a certain healthy amount of fat. The only reason they stayed lean year round is because of roids. They just weren’t injecting as much as modern IFBB pros.

      'Minimal' compared to people today who use 10,000mg of drugs a week is not saying much lol. 1,500mg is still like 6 or 7 times the average guy's normal test production.

    Eating like an old school 70's bodybuilder is relatively easy. Just make sure you don't grossly overeat like the bodybuilders are doing today. And don't reduce or totally cut out vegetables from the diet, just so you have extra room in your gut to stuff more steaks and chicken breasts into it like the bodybuilders are doing today.

      @@nicedoppy2077 Lou was too Big and Bulky like a high percentage of bodybuilders are where as Frank was classical so to speak like Mr. Zane stated 'A lot of Bodybuilders get too big too quickly,and look like assembly line physiques, mass without classical distinction.'
