So then the moral of the story is don't involve yourself in VR? I'm still waiting for the title question to be answered, and the video is over. Maybe my education level is just too low for me to comprehend what they're trying to teach me? Maybe it is, and maybe it's not.

When you use VR your brain acts differently then in real life. That's because your subconscious sees VR as real. It has to tweak some of the brains functions to "survive" in the rules of the perceived world. When you take the headset off your brain switches back to normal mode.

You can't compare a rat watching a screen infront of itself to VR. VR has depth perception. A projected screen does not.

^This. The conclusion I would draw is that those neurons don’t fire when watching or interacting with a 2D environment. Add depth and focus, and the brain engages almost fully as if it were the real thing.
He’s unwittingly promoting VR as a more engaging medium than 2D.

It is a type of VR - VR headsets use a display, comparable to this one, the rat is still being immersed in an environment which can be manipulated by the experimenter
