- The maintenance is complete, and the mini fridge is working again. If you are just tuning in, my Igloo mini fridge was displaying symptoms of a faulty starting relay and overload switch. I ordered the replacement parts from Amazon.com and swapped them out. After the replacement, the mini fridge came back to life and the compressor started right back up like a champ. The swap took less than 10 minutes of actual work and hopefully my mini fridge will last another couple years without any more problems.

How about the video that shows you repairing it I can see that you have repaired it but I have no idea where to get the part what part of it is it's the exact same part that I have on my fridge however too many wires for me to take it off and then put it back on without knowing the park
Exactly, don’t show us after u done fix it😅
No shit.. this video just pisses me off.
Maybe a video of you having drinks to celebrate
I had the exact same problem on my mini fridge. I removed the relay and it made a rattling noise when I shook it. I ordered a new relay on Amazon for $10. The new relay did not rattle when I shook it. I replaced it and the frig is working again. (holding at 32° for the past 24 hours). I did not replace the overload switch. Thank you for the tip on how to fix it.
Thanks. It worked. 7 dollars on Amazon next day. Clicking is a definite sign.
what is the part you ordered????
Worked perfectly! Thank you! Ours costs $20 in Canada, but worth it
Thank you listing the items!! Just bought a mini fridge off Auction and it turns on but doesn’t cool. Hopefully once I order the parts, it’s up and running. We’ll see 🤞🏽
What was the actual problem the thermostat?
How do you know if it needs a relay and not a compressor?
Is that a magic chef....good video.....mine won't cool at all now I put my hand on compressor it is really hot...one your working looks just like mine .....thanks for video
Thanks for the comment!
Is it safe for the back to be open like that?
A few weeks ago, I noticed it had defrosted. There was no sound of the compressor running. I looked this problem up and a number of results suggested replacing the start relay and / or overload.
I ordered replacement parts, and they have now arrived, however I have misplaced the photograph I took of the original wiring.
The start relay is a 3 pin relay
Could someone please advise on how this should be wired?
The brown and blue pair of wires both came from what looks like a capacitor box. The blue and white wires appear to come from what I believe to be a thermostat box, which is then connected to the mains.
I have a small Heineken refrigerator that looks exactly the same in the back as I see in your video. I hear it trying to turn on but nothing happens. It's a very faint sound. Do you think this would resolve the issue? Thanks in advance.
I believe it would!
How to remove the relay cap ?
We have a Vissani mini fridge (freezer on top) one side (outside of fridge) got really warm, husband said it was hot. What could cause this? We have had it for about 6 years.
I think I have the same problem. I'm going to try to fix it.
How did you remove the switch cover
I don't have the clicking . and compressor not turning on . and the inside control panel is flashing lights ? You think the same problem it's 2 years old
It is possible. I think you'll have to go piece by piece to pin point it.
Had a power surge. Replaced it, the relay.
But now the compressor is at 200 degrees and still no cold pop. Bummed
when plugging mine into the wall, it doesn't even sound like it's turning on, no noise what's so ever and waiting a bit and nothing, unsure what happened only had this for 2 days, and would return but already got rid of box and such.
Do you have a picture of the wire connections? I have the same set up but didn't take a picture of the set up before taking it apart to replace like a newb.
I'm sorry I don't think I do. I will look through my collection though and see if one exists.
So mine powers on and a very low hum is heard (pump not running). After about 15 seconds there is a click and the hum stops. After about 3 or minutes there is a click. Then the low hum and again
Measured resistance between all 3 terminals in the 10 ohm and less range.
This is a brand new machine that was damaged in shipping with a dent next to the control panel.
Any Ideas?
sounds like the overload is faulty. I would try that first.
@@matthewhendershot2009 so the motor is not even starting. The overload could cause that?
Most likely the compressor is stuck, the clicking is a thermostat that is protecting the electric motor from overheating. If the compressor is stuck the electric motor tries to draw in more current to move and as the current rises it heats up and trips the thermostat. you can test for this with a clamp ampmeter on one of the cables, if the current draw is way above the rated amperage (this should be on a sticker on your fridge, mine was 0.8 amps and was drawing between 3.3 and 6.0 amps) then something is preventing the motor from turning. Solutions to this go from tapping it with a hammer while it is starting, to using what they call a compressor hard start capacitor ($10 on amazon) to try to break it free, but if this doesnt work pitch it, a new compressor probably costs more than the fridge.( By pitch it I mean scavange the parts, cut the compressor open and take a look and see what went wrong, maybe use the electric motor or the compressor for something else, learn something new ,but sadly as a fridge its toast)
replace the relay, pretty much the same thing that's shown on the video. That relay helps the motor start.
I have this same exact problem. Hums for a few minutes, then clicks off. Ok now it just kicked on the humming again. Replaced thermostat, relay, and overload so no idea what’s happening here.
I tried to change the relay and the capacitor now when I swatch it on relay again becomes bent
please let me know if my solution works for you!! I opened up my fridge earlier and the ice was all melted, after watching several videos I just got mad at the thing and banged on the temperature knob very hard. It started right back up. Sometimes it needs banged against for the knob to know where it’s set at.
I have a GE Compact Refrigerator 4.3 cu.ft that is clicking the compresser is getting hot. So I unplugged it.
I replaced both units as you showed. However there was no change. The compressor did not start. any other suggestions? Richard
Does your board appear to have power at all?
I have the same fridge freezer seems cold but the bottom not so much. Can anybody say what might be the issue?
My mini fridge stopped cooling at level 4. It’s has 5 levels 1-5. One day it just stopped. I unplugged it for 5 min a d set it on 1. I plugged it back in after 5 min and it began running. Now it stops working once a day and when I try to unplug and replug it only works for a couple hours. It’s a small igloo fridge with a small fridge and small freezer. It’s no more than 3ft tall. How can I diagnose the problem and fix it? It’s brand new
Probably the thermostat ,did you ever get it fixed
How did we get to this? Lol
Do u still have it ?what size capasitor is on it , I have tried replacing the relay and overload but to no avail and your capacitor looks bigger than mine
I have a mini fridge the freezer is cold but the fridge is cool any reason why ?
maybe needs a defrost? Sometimes the defrost time goes out and causes improper refrigerant circulation. I would look into that. Hope that helps!
@@matthewhendershot2009 mein kompressors work but it doesn’t cooling i change new parts relay and still not working it makr noise the kompressor but not cooling any new suggestions thanks

My mini fridge was less than six months old when the fan stopped. I can hear something kick on periodically, and the freezer works fine, but I have to leave the freezer door open so it cools the rest of the interior. When I googled, it just says best to replace the whole thing. Is it doomed? Could it be a quick easy fix?
Does the noise at the end is normal?
My fridge turns on, but doesnt cool anymore. Will this fix help?
No the party change were to start the compressor, you say yours is running so that's not the problem.mine is doing the same as yours. Did you figure out a fix yet? 🤔🤔🤔
@@totheletterofthelawalleged6455 Haven't done anything yet, but will share any insights I gather :)
@@phmo312did u find the problem?
I replace the overload and the relay and it's still tripping.... did clicks on for a few seconds then clicks back off every time
Mine dosnt have a fan to cool the compressor
What numbers on the relay do u look at
I think I just looked at whatever numbers I could find on it and started google searching all of them until I found one that looked like a match.
How do I figured out what kind of refrigerant to use?
maybe look up manufacturers manual
If i replaced it and its still notbworking what else couldnit b
hmmm not sure on that.
How do u take the cap off
which cap exactly are we talking about?
@@matthewhendershot2009 hardest part for me is getting the plastic cap off (the housing) there is no metal clip on a RCA mini fridge. I cant seem to get it off and i dont want to hurt the wires or anything else. i need help. rca model rfr322-e refrigerator
If you’re talking about the plastic cover over the relay, there’s a tad on top you stick a screwdriver in and pry down. There’s a diagram on the side you can’t see til you get it off.
So you essentially fixed it for about $20?! Nice!!
MY mini fridge is acting up As well and I THOUGHT I'd JUST need the relay. What made you decide that you needed an overload switch as well??

When I open my fridge the back is frozen but it’s not cold in the refrigerator???? Do you know what is that
Evaporator fan motor
@@felipeortega3192 so I need to buy a new one or I can fix it
@@prod1580 if is one of those Magic Chef small refrigerators is very common for the fan to go out, if you have a bigger refrigerator it could be a defrost system issue which is in most cases a cheap repair.
@@felipeortega3192 thanks for the information
Is it normal for the mini fridge compressor to get scalding hot? I’ve loaded a lot of water bottles in the refrigerator and wonder if that’s the problem
I think it depends on what you consider scalding. I don't think it should be getting too hot.
HOW DO I TAKE THE COVER OFF
If I remember correctly, a couple screws loosened should do the trick.
Why not show how it was changed?
That’s was most uninformitive video ever!
Does anyone have the link to the previous video?
Yeah is this compressor supposed to be hot because mine is
I don't believe it should be getting too hot.
If it's working then maybe it's working hard because u had just started it up ,it will work harder to freeze newly placed unfrozen food or it's trying to cool just air the the fridge or freezer being empty
Not a lot of help.
Sorry it was supposed to be part of a series of a couple videos but I lost some footage.
So where's the rest? I'm sorry to say but it's a little useless 😔
It's more than useless, because it shows us nothing of any use.
