You seem so relaxed handling what’s probably a stressful situation. Can’t wait to pick up both books. And hey, Tad Williams has never written a series he didn’t have to split up or expand. It’s all good!!
This is honestly more exciting hearing this! 1 more book and 1 more awesome cover art for the Sun Eater series sounds great to me
oh! I didn't consider the bonus artwork angle here... PLUS one more title!
yEr jUSt dOiNG tHiS fOR tEh MonEys!
To pay for all the hair I've lost freaking out over this!
While it is true that this is a financial decision, paper cost being what it is, his books are SOOOO long that even splitting it in half still makes for two really big books, both of which I certainly intend to buy in hardcover as soon as they are available. As an added bonus, Christopher will actually earn more money, at least one would hope. He is well deserving of it.
@@SunEaterBooks It's a good thing you have thick hair. That grows back. Enjoy it!
@@Dennis_M_Myers Indeed. I was very much joking. I will always support CR in any of these decisions.
Honestly, your books are so amazingly big I am not too upset that it will be split into two. We have been getting such great value for money for the first 3 books (each being so many times bigger than other books) that I am fine with this news! Looking forward to book 4 (and onwards!).
"you're getting more story out of this" absolutely SOLD. Thrilled for more! Thanks for the heads up!
No panic here - you’ve more then earned my trust as a loyal reader. I’m just sorry it’s a lot more work for you.
Extra Sun Eater material? Yes please! Thanks for the update, Christopher.
Just became a patreon. Wanting to support you for your amazing work as well show my appreciation for you as a person. Thank you for giving my wife and I countless hours of enjoyment with your works. Your balance of being incredibly talented and yet so humble and open is really something special. You’ve made two permanent fans up here in Canada. Cheers, and praying for all the best for things to work out. -Graham
More Sun Eater content? Sounds like good news to me! I'm glad to hear you're happy with the breaking point and the new material. Can't wait to read it!
I am still with you Ruocchio!
Thanks for the update. 🔥Still can't wait for the books🔥.
I'm really hoping we can get both parts in 2022! I'm also pumped to see the new cover and hear what the title is of the new one! Thanks for the update Christopher.
Looking forward to it!!!
I love when this happens. More story. Looking forward to them all.
More story and another beautiful cover? Count me in!
I will never complain about having another gorgeous book to put on my bookshelf. This is super exciting and I have complete faith you will nail it!
I get one more Sun Eater book? I win!
This sounds super exciting, it seems like you’re handling such a huge change incredibly well. Thanks for explaining the logistics behind it as well, it’s fascinating. Any idea on how current pre-orders will be handled?
Current preorders should be just fine. From the retailers' perspective, Kingdoms of Death is just Kingdoms of Death!
I’m super excited for the next books!! Cant wait to re-read the first three books in the lead up to book 4A, then fight with my family over who gets to read it the moment it arrives.
I know this means a lot of work for you, but it sounds like great news to me. Love your books!
I've heard a lot of amazing things about your books from Mike and many other readers, and this popped up on my feeds. Btw... on an unrelated (or maybe related) note, is that the entire Berserk Deluxe Edition on your bookshelves!? Damnnnn
It is! I'm a big fan--Berserk's my favorite manga series of all time, so it was kind of mandatory.
@@SunEaterBooks It's one of my top favorites of all time, too! Good decision, they're so hard to get now, just like the US hardcover of Empire of Silence 😂
@@PetrikLeo I've been jumping on them fast as I can haha, especially now, I'd hate to miss one.
Great stuff man, can't complain with more story. I just hope the book 4a and 4b (is that what they are now? or 4 and 5?) isn't too long. Out of interest how did you think of stuff to add into each book? Was stuff you had in your initial outline but couldn't make it into one volume? Or was it material for short stories that you figured could fit in here?
Mostly it was stuff I just didn't have the space to get into. A couple things were things I realized I could start seeding now rather than later. It's hard to be more specific without ruining things, though!
So your series is 6 books and now unintentionally fits the Devil theme even better.
I had that thought, too XD.
Good news, great news. Excelent day.
My friend's book, second-to-last in a series, was delayed from December to February because of paper shortage.
Need some hardcover reprints of the first books
Don't I know it. If you want to tell the folks at Astra publishing that, it wouldn't hurt.
I'll be patient, and to be honest, more story - even if split in two- is better than less 😏🖤😈
This happened with Ken Liu and Jim Butcher. Not because of a paper shortage- they just let the length get away from them. They released ‘both books’ close together. Glad to hear ‘b’ will be released closely. I hope you’re happy with the final result! I found both parts of Butcher’s latest were hurt by the split.
I'm doing my best to make sure that doesn't happen!
Greetings, Christopher. Thanks for the update and transparency. Strange times indeed. I have my preorder confirmed by Amazon and the initial page count is 912. Considering what you just shared with us, does that mean that both volumes will be around 456 pages each? Will that change the final price tag of Kingdoms of Death? Be well and again thanks for the excellent communication 😎🖖
I can't be 100% certain of the final page count, but it will be somewhere in that region, I'd expect. I don't know what that's going to mean for the price tag, especially with the ballooned production costs--but we'll find out together.
@@SunEaterBooks if book 4a doesn’t end with a major cliffhanger I am fine with the split 😆👍
📚 more books is more books
More text from Hadrian is never a bad thing. Bet it was a mixed bag of emotions when you got that news. "Sweet another book!... crap I need to rewrite a lot." Not that it matters, but will this affect the price point of Book 4A?
I don't rightly know, to be honest. Probably, but I can't say how.
If during the editing process of book 4, there was an elimination of some important parts, then I'd say this is a good thing, as we can get this back. However, if the story is getting bloated and parts added in unnecessarily for the sake of this publishing company crap (big books are still being published as we speak - although stay tuned on Tad Williams who may be going thru the same split up for his third volume) then well I'm not too thrilled about. Fingers crossed, Christopher, I eagerly await the next volume. Sad that I have to wait longer for the conclusion.
Williams and I have the same publisher, so it's quite possible he'll be subject to the same thing (though it'll be interesting if his big-ness makes him immune to the problem).
Can't say too much about how I plan to address these circumstances, but rest assured in that I am doing my very best to give you my very best.
@@SunEaterBooks Your books are great and I have no doubt you will give us more of the same. Thank you, just impatient for more.
It's like we're back in the 1930's. Still eagerly waiting for the new books.
This just means more sun eater let’s freaking gooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually rather have 2 shorter books. Easier to travel with, quicker reads, same overall story. Weirdly good news.
Book I: Kingdom of Death
Book II: Empires of Death
Annoying for you but personally can't complain about the series getting more material
Paper shortage. Solution? Cut the book in half to make two books and then make each part longer. Now uses more paper. Fun. That was a good morning chuckle.
Right! But less at a time! That's how we fool the pencil pushers.
