  • I became captivated by Arabia's Empty Quarter as a young man when I read Wilfred Thesiger's Arabian Sands. The Empty Quarter is larger than France without a single permanent point of water or human habitation. It's both the world's largest sand sea and one of the hottest places on earth, and has only been traversed a handful of times. I didn't want to repeat Thesiger's epic journeys many decades later, but when I discovered motorized paragliding I found a way to visualize this remote landscape in a new way. I made three paragliding trips into the sands, first for GEO in Saudi Arabia, and then returned two years later to go from Riyadh to Oman and Yemen for National Geographic, and finally made a personal trip to the southern most reaches of the U.A.E. to complete my field work. What I found was one of the most beautiful and unseen wilderness on earth. On its fringes I encountered elements the oil wealth that has forever changed Arabia, but I also found Bedouins still clinging to traditions, and offering up a level of hospitality that was truly humbling. This body of work would simply not have been possible without their kindness.
Empty Quarter is George's second book, published by Harry N. Abrams. This is the most extensive compilation of photographs ever taken in the Arabian Desert. Measuring 9.5 x 13 inches, the book has 208 pages with 150 color photos and captions.

The desert fascinates me, to think that civilizations could actually survive in a place so desolate is amazing.

Arabia wasn't a desert long ago .. the climate changed around 6000 years ago and many arabs moved to the north and formed kingdoms and nations
like Akkad or Phoenicia or Babylon
but many stayed to form nations like Dilmun or Sheba and many others
but before all these nations there's even older nations like those made houses within the mountains .. or the lost city of Aad
ancient Arabian tribes made these now are perished

Well no one would ever truly live in the empty quarter besides a extremely few amount of civilizations most of Arabia’s civilizations and empires would be najd and Hejaz which are very mountainous regions ( Hejaz usually is usually where the rulers live ) but most Importantly they are very ideal for agriculture and farming and same with the south of Arabia ( Abha region) which is also very mountainous but also filled with beautifully greenery across its mountains and flat lands, though there are tales with credible evidence that show to be the empty quarter had extremely ancient and great civilizations like for example the lost city of Iram.

The music is aimed to stereotype arab culture. White people cannot post a video without stereotype about other cultures because they think they are the center of the world and the only civilizatied people . Because. they are the last to know civilisation. That's why they have some psychological issues about other cultures.

Aziz Alarqoobi true, and tragic. I was thinking "get lost" there like a bring the Toyota Landcruiser equipped with GPS and all that. Can that place be navigated like that? Bring dirt bikes like they do off in the areas around Dubai? That would be fun.
