This is was my damage control Gung-Ho. Every time the press would come down on G.I. Joe they send out Dress Blue Gung-Ho to talk on the TV news. He hated it.
Wow that's a really cool idea
Did Gun-Ho cost less?
@@ghostman5620 No. I just suck at spelling.
@@FoxofMaysville not anymore!
That idea of gung-ho doing damage control is as hilarious as it is brilliant.
I was pretty disappointed that a dress-blues version never got made during the 25th/30th Renaissance as gung-ho is my favorite Joe.
Even if he is the only one from a fictional town! What was up with that?
That is awesome and needs to happen in a media format lol
This version was the last GI Joe figure I bought as a 14 year old. I was growing out of GI Joe but when I saw him at the store, I knew I had to have him. It was a fitting way to wrap up my childhood collection.
When Hasbro re-introduced the 12 inch scale for G.I. Joe action figures, Gung Ho's action figure based on this version albeit with more accessories. I really liked the unique look of Gung Ho in his dress blues, even in the newer scale. Especially since I missed out his version 2 action figure. Defiantly going to pick him up in the near future.
Wow! I said the same thing for me as well" I plan on gettin the 1988 GI JOE Poster with this Gung-ho version on it soon....I may get emotional 😳😳lol
This version of Gung-Ho is very special to me. I always imagined Gung Ho, in Dress Blues, would have attended any ceremony for the Marines who lost their lives in the line of duty... like LCpl Harold Gratton who was KIA in Beirut in October of 1983.
Talking about old action figures may not seem that important, but it is. We enjoy your videos, and we need things to distract us from all of the chaos going on out there now. Many people are stuck at home with nothing much to do, and your videos always bring us joy as we remember the good old days of our youth. Keep up the good work, sir.
You may not think it's that important, but, keeping morale up is VERY important in times like these.
That moustache Gung Ho has is in violation of the USMC grooming standard.
The beloved Dress Blues figure that in 1987 I remember not ever seeing in stores. Just one small family owned toy store run by a man named Gerald who was Korean War veteran and he kept it on display only in the window and would not sell it. Even took me awhile to get around to on ebay and was the last of the 1987 lineup that I purchased and even went all out and got the carded as the artwork is so beautiful. Kirk "Law" Bozagian told a story of a Hasbro exec early on that slammed Ron Rudat for designing this figure as that the small minded exec thought it was outside of what the 80's line stood for. But thankfully Ron's design won out in 1987 and we can thank him for that!
The few. The proud. The 788.
I did have a use for this version. He would be the guard standing outside Hawk's office at my headquarters. :) Also, welcome back HCC. We love you!!!
Good call , I wish I had thought of that as a kid
Toys and the like may not be high on the list of priorities, but entertainment sure is in demand while we may be stuck at home. And it also helps bring a touch of normalcy and levity to stressful times. Keep em comin HCC!
His silver on his chest are his Expert Rifle and Pistol expert badges.
The fact that you're here to entertain us in a time of crisis makes you a real American hero!
I love this version of Gung Ho, I guess the Pit needs some Joes in dress uniform to greet important guests. Welcome back, HCC!
Don't worry about the lockdown, I have been shut in my home since March the 12th and I'm still sane. Well, this is what my dishwasher told me this moring. lol
I agree completely. He was one I knew would not see "action." But I knew I had to have him. From the old recruiting commercials: "The Few. The Proud. The Marines."
I grabbed this figure as a kid, because I was a Gung-Ho fan and could never find his V1 figure in stores. I didn't know what the uniform was until I got him home and asked family members. After that, this figure never saw combat during playtime. I wasn't sure what to do with him. Sometimes he stood around in Gi Joe displays (like hanging out at the HQ or whatever.) I was still happy to have a Gung-Ho, combat ready or not. Also, my figure's hat was unglued in the package. I thought it was supposed to come that way, but the hat would never stay on, so I ended up gluing it on myself. I still have it to this day. Thanks for the video!
I was today years old when I realized the hat normally comes glued on.
Eventhough it wasn't combat ready, it was a must have when I saw it at Toys r Us. A classy figure.
I had this figure when I was a child. A young child. I didn't know any of the history of the Marine Corps, or even the names of the figures. I just saw the guy in the fancy uniform, and made him the leader of GI Joe. Made sense to my child-self.
My Dad was a Marine, he really liked getting me this toy.
I’ve got G I Joe the cartoon playing right now in the living room. They got it on Tubi. Plus I’m watching HCC788 do a review. Life is good. Just wished my kid didn’t spill soda all over the couch. Lol
Welcome back and thank you for the Episode this old Jarhead loves Gung Ho, Leatherneck and Mainframe.
Good Choices! Same here.
Here in Brazil he was released in 1993 as Marechal do Ar, codinome Gung Ho [Sky Marshall (the highest rank on Brazilian Air Force), codename Gung Ho]. He had no stickers or the ceremonial sword but had weapons. He was identified as an Air Force member (no rank given but the name of the figure) probably because of the blue uniform which is the color of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) uniforms.
I myself am a proud Airman Seperated Seinior Airman USAF, but Gung Ho was always one of my favorite Joes I still posess my chidhood Dress Blue Gung Ho all these years later next to 1985 Snake Eyes and Flint he still remains one of my favorites of all time
Believe it or not!! but your videos are important for us!! Thanks HCC!! And take care!! please everyone stay safe!! Greetings from Guatemala!!
I love this figures since 1987 and finally 4 years ago I found one ! Is good see you my dear Commander
I always loved this figure! It stood out BECAUSE it wasnt loaded with all these grenades and armor.
One of my favorite figures as a kid. loved that he was in formal dress.
Glad you are back, buddy! This was an unexpected gift for the start of a long, boring week. My pops saw this figure and snapped it up for me immediately, because he was a Marine as well. I didn’t know what to do with this Gung Ho, but hey, it was a gift from my dad so it didn’t really matter. Thanks for letting us know you are okay!
Welcome back, Hoodie!
Gung Ho was one of my longtime favorites, and his dress blues version was one of the reasons I wanted to become a Marine.
Couldn't, due to a major medical problem, but the Marines are still my favorite branch of service.
My first Gi Joe action figurine was Gung Ho in 1983 or '84. The first military commerical was a Marine in dress blue with NCO sword. Now I have Gung Ho in blue dress like this. I also wanted to join Marines but I have medical issue so I couldn't.
I've never owned him, but always thought it was cool they made a figure like this.
HCC, post all you want. We need entertainment just as much as social distancing.
That sword may look ceremonial but many were combat ready. I was a traditional.
Gung Ho always battle ready, even if just in his boxers
This figure was a shelf warmer in my area. A friend of mine who lived next door had this figure. Sadly, we never played with him outside with our other Joes.
This version of Gung Ho would like nice on the USS Flag aircraft carrier.
This was the last classic joe I got as a kid.
As NZ got big in GI Joes as late as 87 this Gung ho was the first version I saw, great figure when I finally saw the 83 Gung ho the following year I though wow now we're talking
i've been thinking about tracking down one of these for my dad. i recently bought him one of those utility covers after watching your Leatherneck video.
he's been struggling with short-term memory loss but one thing he thoroughly remembers is his time as a Marine.
The 83 version was one of my favorite figures all time but this one was right up there to.
It's great to have you back HCC. I wish I could stay at home, but the warehouse I work at supplies things such as hand sanitizers face masks and rubber exam gloves. So right now I am working 10 to 11 hour shifts
Thank you for giving us a GI joe review when we need something cool and fun after weeks of...not fun.
I love this figure! After my Sgt. Slaughter figure died after fighting all of my cobras and a one armed Rancor (long story) Dress Blues Gung Ho stood at attention at his grave. Of course Slaughter came back eventually, but it was pretty epic, and Gung Ho continued to guard anything important after that, including bring one of the few vintage Joes that I kept out on display years later.
Hail Cobra!
Really happy to see you back HCC, now more than ever!
The last GI Joe figure I ever got as a kid.
Yessssss thanks for making this review, I loved this figure when it came out. I used him as the lead argument in an unsuccessful attempt to convince my parents to get a USS Flagg. Gung Ho being all dressed up with no place to go did not convince them it was worth the money. It did spark and interest in the Marine Corps, and may have played a part in my joining years later. Good work as always, Semper Fi
Good to have you back!
I think that the worst thing about this figure is that they never made more Joes in dress or formal uniforms for their respective enlistments, which makes this figure stand out and difficult to integrate into play.
That was the only Gung-Ho that I had and I snapped it up as soon as I saw it, but I never did anything with him. Not every toy, even then, needed to get into the action.
Good to see our HCC788 back !
I always thought Gung HO was promoted to E-8 or E-9 as First Sergeant or Sergeant Major at this point and given the sticker. As a kid, I had Gung Ho suffer a very bad belly wound from Copperhead--and then he was reassigned as formal guard duty for the Shuttle in his marine dress blues. He was a great figure---very detailed paint apps.
Welcome back, HCC! Having you back makes it feel like a Sunday again :)
Welcome back HCC glad to see you're doing better. Take care of yourself both mentally & physically for you & your family bubba. And know you got friends out here for you anytime.
Glad to have you back HCC 788! Cool review I had this figure, used it more as a show piece! 🇺🇸
I thought the hair was cellulite. I love this version. He stands guard outside of Hawks office, on one of my dioramas.
Great minds think alike. ;)
I’m surprised they didn’t do more GI Joe figures in military dress attires rather than combat-ready attires.
Marc Quill yeah, imagine what Quick kick would look like with a uniform, or Snakes eyes, or Scarlett, Roadblock, or Heavy duty, or Bazooka, or Alpine, or................
@@peterang78 Oh my damn that would be cool!
As a kid I wouldn't have touched them. As an adult I would be all over them
I agree. I never could find a way to utilize the figure when playing as a kid, but even then, I knew it was a sharp looking figure. Since this was released in 1987, it’s a shame Hasbro didn’t do more dress uniform figures as mail-away offerings to celebrate the 5th year of the line.
Thats made him a General for me. The only Gung ho i knew.
Great review of the G.I. Joe Gung Ho version 2, it is a really good video with a lot of information about the action figure. Thumbs up HCC788.
Copper Bear reporting in! Great to have you back, and love that I got my code name on this one! Like you I loved this figure as a kid, and had to have it, then didn't know how to play with it. So I had him stand guard on the jail in the HQ. Now I have two of him standing guard on the jail in my HQ.
Stay safe!!! Yo Joe!!!
this is a top tier figure for sure
Hey Hoodie. I never had this version of Gung-Ho but my very first GI Joe was the 1983 version 1 Gung-Ho. Stay safe and healthy, my friend. Cheers M
I think I would have loved more dress uniform Joes. Hawk in is general uniform he wore A Lot in the comics, Ship-Wreck in naval dress, and give good old Ace a moment in the sun in Air Force blues.
This is a Top Tier Figure
Good to see you back hope you and your family are staying safe
Sweeeet! I have been WAITING for you to cover this figure. I absolutely loved this guy growing up.
The Fer-de Lance thing really intrigued me so I did some digging.... Fer-de Lance means Spearhead in French... So I searched Spearhead, Louisiana... I found out that the US Army 3rd Armored Division are called 'Spearhead' and were activated on 15 April 1941 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana!! I know, probably just a coincidence, just thought it was a cool rabbit hole to fall down!! Either way, great review and I bloody loved/love this figure. We had him in the UK believe it or not on a Hasbro Action Force card no less and my buddy, Sean, who lived across the road bought me the figure as a present for no reason other than to be nice!! I was over the bloody moon and really enjoyed the idea and execution of the figure!! Superb stuff!!
Welcome commander!
Thanks for posting and keeping us all entertained HCC. Stay safe out there buddy 👍
Great video HCC! Please bring the old music back
I don't know if that 'stash is approved for Marine presentation, but it should be.
It's not. It's not allowed to extend past the upper lip.
We want to see a Navy Joe in Dress Blues !!!
I think theirs are dress whites
@@totalrobot Yes,The U.S. Navy wears white dress uniforms. I would love see any of the Navy Joes in dress whites, since I have a fondness for many of them. Speaking of dress uniforms, in 2004 General Flagg version 3 was released in a dress uniform for Comic book pack #5. Sadly, unlike Gung Ho version 2, General Flagg version 3 does not look at all like he does in the included comic book.
I always wanted to have it when I was a kid. I thought it would be a realistic soldier inside my team of mostly paramilitaristic looking combatants.
Great review as always Hoodie! As a kid this Gung ho didn’t interest me but I had it. As an adult I love the figure because of the detail and the fact it was very unique for the time. I must disagree with you that your videos aren’t important during this time. Being stuck at home being board I enjoy looking at old reviews you have done. The enjoyment and passion you have in the Joes is what I like but don’t have the patience to do videos like you do. Keep up the good work my friend.
YES!
Really happy to see you back HCC
Glad to see you back in action sir .i never knew his hat was glued on. Neat
November 10th, 1775
The United States Marine Corps was formed in a Philadelphia tavern over some brewskis. They needed the finest marksmen to be able to hit personnel on opposing boats and ships.
Shock troops, Devil Dogs, Hard Chargers, Jarheads, whatever you call em...
They are first to fight and last to stand!! Semper Fi!!!
I had V2. Great looking figure. I should've bought the whole band!
dress blues and the uniform sets of bravo and charlie would be neat
Glad to see you back, Hoodie! This was an excellent choice for "Hood-fu: Da Return"! Cool outro music too.
Thank you.
Yo JOE!💥😁👍🏿
Missed you bub. Welcome home. And remember keep your shit wired tight.
So good to have you back Hoodie!
good to see you back and another great video. and more than ever we need your videos to help us out over the lock down dont sell yourself short you do a lot of good at the best of times and even more so now. god bless and my you and your loved ones stay safe
Good to see ya HCC hope all is well with you!!
Welcome back Hooded Cobra Commander 788! Great review as always! Personally I was never a fan of this version of the figure, but it was nice to here why some people actually did like the figure.
I found it funny that he was an E-7 wearing E-9 rank.
Glad to have you back commander
Welcome back HCC!!!
I want a remake of this bad mutha in the Classified line.
Welcome back, sir!
From the Halls of Montezuma....
It's great to see you back!!!
I remember picking this one up new in like 92ish. Must have been old stock.
Good to have you back!
Great vídeo!
I am so glad you are back! I hope you are doing well. I missed your reviews. They were my Sunday evening tradition. I had the first version of Gung - Ho and never had the later ones. This is a great figure, though I probably was the kid that wondered how you would play with it. Thanks for this review.
Welcome back!
Glad you are back. Enjoyed the video 👍
WooHoo he is back!
Glad you're back! Great review.
I only used this version for funerals or for gung ho to deliver death news to my other toys. He'd "change" into his dress uniform.
Other than that i found no other use for him.
Good to see you back, and thanks for keeping us entertained, yo joe
Welcome back HoodieCoCo!
