I've seen them made with a small magnet sewn into the corner after you turn it, before stiching it up. Then it sticks to the side of your refrigerator.
Very nice! This shelf liner rubber also works great to "sweep" away bits of thread, lint on my ironing board. Even works well for cat hair on surfaces! I have also adde it to the undersides of chair and bench pads to keep them from sliding.
I like this simple and useful craft. At first, I didn't understand why 2 pieces of fabric were needed. Now I see that it adds more cushioning to the lid opener. TFS!
For persons with a weaker grip (Arthritis, Neurology concern in the fingers/hands, decreased sensation/circulation in fingers/hand, I suggest adding another outside layer of the rubberized "shelf liner" on the "back" so your hand doesn't slip on the cotton fabric while gripping a container top. One of my Grandmother's showed me how to use the back edge of a dinner knife, holding the handle and tap (not gently, however, but enough to dent the lid's edge) on edge of container top around in 6 places (like on the face of a clock @ 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o'clock) to loosen the pressurized seal; makes it easier to open. Another suggestion: make two 2-sided grippers, holding one around the jar, & the other hand loosening the lid.
Great gift idea! I use a sewing machine needle in place of where you used a sewing pin to help get tight angles moving again. It’s sturdier and won’t bend. 😊
Handy idea-since you are doing a 1/4” around the edges, why couldn’t you put the top side down to do the top stitching and then there would not be a “sticking” problem?
I wonder if you could also put a ribbon all around on the rubber side and end it in a loop. That will help with the sewing since it won’t stick. Thanks!
Cindy, I’ve made a round jar lid opener, but, I used batting in between the fabrics. It turned out well but a little hard to turn out. Thank you for idea and I will try it out. I always enjoy your videos!❤️
The two pieces of fabric is so a “pretty” side is showing through the back. The shelf liner has holes and you would see the wrong side of the top fabric if you didn’t use the second fabric to have pretty showing through.
Ong my daughter was telling me about this. She got one at a bazaar. So I typed in and there it was. This will be great for any gift. Also your hands look like mine. We could be twins. Lol I have my mom’s hands. Happy sewing
Lol. I remember as a kid B I hated my mom hands and told her I would never have hands like hers. Guess what. I agree with you. Their my Moms hands. Lol
I I’m tryin to make a bunch of these for my granddaughter to sell at her school craft fair. Mine never glide through the machine like yours. If I tug it gets askew and doesn’t look so good. Does anyone one know of a breakaway or dissolving interfacing? Any other suggestions would be helpful. I love your tutorials every time. Thanks for all of them.
@@CindyBeesQuiltShoppe Thanks. I can't find a good picture that shows how to use it. I found one on Pinterest but didn't print off very well. Thanks for your response
The blue material is there so you won't have raw fraying edges that will poke through the grippy stuff. It is just quilting cotton. Also gives a bit extra stability.

I do see how that would be handy but I would be worried about the magnet interfering with using it on different sizes of jars... hmmm
I like the idea of the “x”, as in making potholders or coasters.
Great idea. I might try it as a circle and not a square and add a hanging loop.
That’s a great idea.

Ooo. My cat has decided to sleep on my wool mat. Will have to try it on that.
Great idea, except, would've used a Lunch plate or small bowl as a template to make this Jar Opener ROUND !!!
Love this! A piece of paper under would keep it from sticking. Wouldn'tbe that hard to pull off the paper when done!
you can also use paper to sew it flipped, I have cut strips of paper to later zip off, and it goes real fast, no drag.
I used old telephone book paper
I used tissue paper and then peeled it off afterward. It was fabulous.
@@kayweston2106I would never have thought of using an old phone book, I'll try that tip. Thank you Jay 😊

Also run under hot water, and then use rubber gloves, never fails 😊
😱😱😱 your sewing machine was singing to me. I am enchanted. What kind do you have? I am due for an upgrade 😬
So glad to see this tutorial. It is a lot easier than the ones I’ve been making with a binding.
This is awesome! Would never have thought of this. Thanks
Painters tape on the rubber side makes top stitching much easier.
Cute fabric! I use mine all the time!
Wow! What a great idea for a stocking stuffer. Thanks.

Great way to make a necessary tool in the kitchen custom
Thanks Cindy for this easy to make project. I love your fabric choices.

I will have to try that and see how it turns out!
Very good
Love this tutorial …. Thanks … Xmas gifts for sewing girlfriends
Thank you great video I’m trying some of these today to match some bowl cozies I’m making

Great idea thank you. I like the tutorial, you showed each step. Will share this video.
Hi Cindy. This is a great tutorial. So fast and easy, but most importantly it works perfectly! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
I'm going to attempt to make a few of them
Thanks for the video 😊🎄
I love that you only use one side cloth and the other the gripping material. I have seen it done with two pieces of fabric and I thought .... WHY?
She used two pieces of fabric and the rubber gripper that I saw in this video is there another one?
The two pieces of fabric is so a “pretty” side is showing through the back. The shelf liner has holes and you would see the wrong side of the top fabric if you didn’t use the second fabric to have pretty showing through.

Lol. Me too Mom’s hands.
That was so neat.
Definitely will be trying this! Why the second layer of fabric, though? Because it will be visible through the liner?
It is a bit visible through the shelf liner. So by putting the second fabric you do not see the wrong side of our top layer.
Thank you great idea

ThNk you for your long words. You can use simple tissue paper and just tear it away after you sew
I use tissue paper. It helpps
Saw a video where she put painters tape under presser foot
Could you put a piece of tissue paper on the rubber side while top stitching so it doesn’t stick to machine bed?
Yes
Love this! Can you tell me what size needle and stitch length works best for this. Thank you!
I use a 2.5mm stitch and a denim needle, size 90/14 needle. You can also use a microtex needle if the denim needle is not available.
Is it Bumpys side up?
Is there any way I can make this i don't have a sewing machine or know how to sew i would love to make these for my family and friends
How important is the cotton thread? Is it an absolute must? Ty
No you don't since it can't go in microwave and not exposed to a heat source because of the rubber.
Thanks Cindy. I make these and also make a 2"x2" for a bottle opener. I sell these but I can't find a cute picture for my price tags. Have any ideas
We make tags etc on the computer. Just take a picture and use the Avery website for labels.
@@CindyBeesQuiltShoppe Thanks. I can't find a good picture that shows how to use it. I found one on Pinterest but didn't print off very well. Thanks for your response
What size needle most everything I watch never tells needle sizes
Can you put these in the washer and dryer?
Washer for sure. Not sure how the shelf liner will hold up in the drier
What happens if you sew with the shelf liner on top?
Unless you have a teflon foot, it would probably stick to it. The feed dogs will move the shelf liner along, on the bottom.
What are you using to press on? Cool project!!!
I use a wool mat. It is a game changer. It absorbs the heat so its like pressing both sides at the same time.
I used a square piece of paper under the non slip material so it wouldn't stick.
I seen another lady use tissue paper under the shelf liner and it didn't stick to the machine. She just taped it and started sewing
Does your machine need to be oiled, it sounds screechy.
What is the blue material used with the grip and design material and is it necessary to us it
The blue material is there so you won't have raw fraying edges that will poke through the grippy stuff. It is just quilting cotton. Also gives a bit extra stability.
@@CindyBeesQuiltShoppe ok thank you for your reply.. have a blessed day and keep being great 😃

Why 2 pieces of material, not one
Oops it saids Scott Allison. But my name is Patsy Allison.
