AC4 is one of those games which has a story that, as a kid, you find very cool, but as an adult, it punch in the guts really hard... And seeing this again, 20 years later, now animated. Feels like re-living those childhood days of me sitting infront of the TV playing this game after school.
Without these games we’d have no way to comprehend what happens in war, what happens to soldiers themselves and the civilians around them which is why war media is important to have so that we can hopefully learn a tiny fraction of what the real experience could be and be glad that what you’re doing is just a movie or game and not the situation it depicted
Genuinely the story of AC4 lives rent free in my head... to the point it sometimes gets to me relistening to it now with the context of life and aldulthood.
This has so much potential, and you've already started strong. The AC04 "Letter" interludes have always stuck with me over the years, and I revisit them with some regularity. I wish you the best of luck bringing all of them, and the missions between, to life!

The details you’ve added, the flares in the distance on that shot of the contrails, the tv, the explosion on the cape oh my god. I was already starting to well up at the crash and was thinking, “now Nassault is a detail minded person, it would be crazy if they added the sight-sound del-*BOOOM*” Chills ran up my back. You have a phenomenal sense of emotional timing. You’ve made my morning
Using the speed of sound delay to show the crash before the boy says "the same cape where my family lived" and then only hear the sound of the explosion after is such a clever touch.
Out of all the AC stories Shattered Skies (Distant Thunder for us Euros) stuck with me the most. It feels more grounded, it's not melodramatic in the slightest and the narrator's monotone voice conveys the losing of childhood innocence well. I've been very impressed with your work in the past and I wish you luck making this project a reality.
I don't think many people have captured the vibe of ace combat games outside of your machinimas and TImm's video essay. Keep up the amazing work. I'm holding out hope that one day somewhere down the line we will get a similar project like this for AC Zero

A bit of CC at 1:46, imo it would work better when the film stops on 13 the color pallete of the first cinematic (yellow/mustard tones) get applied to the video. I still remember that moment, very clearly. The feeling of betrayal and horror as that handkerchief fell from the sky. The realization of how I had perceived a person just seconds ago. Just a few pixels on my screen, an objective to be completed, a target to be destroyed. AC4's story builds up a character, a friend even, just for you to tear him down. This I will never forget.
As much as we all like 5's melodrama and Zero's heroics, I still think that AC4's fantastically understated and deeply personal story is by far the best in the series, and encapsulates everything that the series should be

Incredible. Just brings a little extra to that iconic opening cutscene. That said, AC04's hand-drawn stills is still hands down probably the most artful of the entire series. It was truly a game of its own.
I can't remember a game ever doing anything so impactful in this generation, to this day replaying I'll never skip that cutscene, thank you for this beautiful recreation @Nassault, always looking forward to your next creation here!

I miss watching this intro. The music, the monotone voice, the sudden deafening sounds, and new to this one: the news reporters' voices. This is phenomenally done. Thank you a lot for this! (Randomly: That one line "A sound like distant thunder" has been seared into my mind ever since I heard it.)
I remember playing this as a kid, and for whatever reason this part never clicked for the longest time. Then it did, and the whole thing got a lot darker.

I was just a kid no older than 6 when I picked up a book on the battle of Britain, within those pages I was greeted with a similar sight that has stuck with me since, a grainy black and white photo of the sky streaked with hundreds if not thousands of contrails spiraling and twisting around one another like a tangle of yarn. The odd black streak breaking away from the circles and spirals, returning to earth. That's where it began for me.
Man to see the intro to Ace Combat 4 in cinematic form really is just another form of magic. The pictures in the original cutscenes pretty much left me imagining something like this if it were animated. Especially that intro part of the asteroids falling. And the details of the news coverage were such a nice touch. Im excited for this fan film! Awesome work as always Nassault!

Cannot wait for the full thing. I started the series with 7 and tried to go back to the og trilogy but never liked playing 4. From a story perspective I could tell it was special and enjoyed watching a play though of it. Can’t wait to relive that but even better.

i think i would have personally enjoyed the AC4 story more if the cutscenes were animated like this instead of the still images.
