inspector mod is what I use. I have never experienced any problems with it and it is on the official modhub (or found in game)

I have checked and on the ingame mod section, if you go to 'gameplay' and scroll acros, there should be a mod called 'Fruchtzwerg's inspector'.

I think in season if you cut 'dry' grass, it turns to hay in 6 hours or something. You don't have to ted it, unless you cut 'wet' grass (>20% moisture). You can check the moisture content with the hand tool. You also can't spread lime (not fertilizer) when the grass is in the 'ready to harvest' stage. When you start a new seasons map, all the grass is in the first ready state. After you have cut it once, you can then lime it.

Yellow grass = hay - you left dry grass out in the sun too long and it dried out. Grass when mowed comes in two colors - dark green = wet grass (must be tedded to make dry grass, or it will forever be grass until it decays), light green = dry grass (leave it out in warm sunlight and a light wind and it will dry to hay without a need to ted), rain will make dry grass wet, rain will rot hay.
IRL - I have seen farmers use high tip trailers (FS19 sugar cane trailers) behind the forager, and use a regular (forage) tipper to run from field to silo/wherever.
Drying really depends upon sun and wind - see weather prediction page (on the seasons menu), the better the condition the faster it dries. In poor conditions it can take a couple days, in excellent conditions it can take as little as 4 hours!! Makes creating silage a challenge, even for contracts, I've failed a few where the field dried too fast.
