I think I make every single mistake you are demonstrating in the video. But at least now I know how to fix them 😂 thanks for your great work and I'm looking forward to having you showing me all my backhand mistakes.
fantastic video. There are so many top 100 players in the world that can't, or don't, share this type of content and explain things in a way that anyone can understand. I was heavy into playing music all throughout my childhood, and we used the same concept of overcorrecting things in the opposite direction of the error to help find the middle ground. this advice works in everything!

This is top quality coaching. I've been playing TT for a few years now and have only recently started working with a coach. The mistakes you've highlighted are super relevant to what I'm trying to correct at the moment. Part of the issue is understanding what I'm doing wrong and why, you've done a great job of explaining that, plus your methods of correcting the issues has me very excited to hit up the robot this week. Thank you for the quality content!
Thank you for teaching proper fore hand techniques here ..I am doing few mistakes and seeing your videos ..I am able to correct them ..Would hopefully practice well and apply them in the real games ❤
Awesome video - I particularly like the bookmark sequencing which allows me to review the different errors in study. Also, the recommendations for fixing the errors are really insightful. Cheers for this wonderful video : )
As someone who switched hands a couple of years ago and rebuilt from scratch, these tips are solid gold. The ones I found most useful for myself are 1) stopping the shoulder to improve recovery and 2) open to closed angle. Agree that open to closed is optimal but I was doing too much wrist rotation/manipulation when I started open and tried to close during the stroke. Had to really work on it. Starting with a slightly closed angle (6around 60 degrees) actually reduced my errors since I didn't move the wrist much during the stroke.
I think you could see the first point from a different perspective too.. A lot of people tend to stop too early .. So exaggerating the rotation with with hand swing and shoulder (whole body), will help a lot. It was a tipp from a coach and it improved my forehand tremendously. Once you get it you can then shorten the rotation depending on the ball and the time you have and also depending on how much power you want to impart into the shot.. Most important thing ist to lift the elbow throw the shot and keep it high and forward regardless of how much you rotate.. For topspin against block/topspin you can control it by letting the bat FH face, inner upper arm and forearm point downward at the end on the same plane. This Wil make sure that you lift and keep the elbow high ending the shot with the bat over the left eye.. It also insures a stable swing plane and a stable bat angle .. So the elbow starts low in the backswing and moves higher through the shot on a stable plane.. Keeping the elbow stable through the shot ist really a key for the all forehand topspin shots.. In the past I thought it only relevant for the backhand.. Hope you get what I tried to explain.. Try it and let me know😀
These suggestions are amazing! Everyone in the TT community appreciates the quality of instruction and effort here. I would love to see an equivalent video for forehand loop against underspin. Especially when dealing with a standard push compared to something like a heavy pips chop.
Single most helpful table tennis video I've seen on UA-cam. I realized mistakes I've been making for a decade of playing. Just from using the "place" method on both wings, I went from poor technique and match results to winning and stroking well one session to the next.
Great video, Seth. The content and presentation are very easy to understand and helpful. Thank you for sharing your expertise in such a quality manner. I especially need to work on not being so rigid and totally eliminating the stop sign. Best wishes to you in your own table tennis journey.
the point at 11:50 is important but differs for me on the used material as well. For tenergy and dignics it is for sure butter and bread technique. very good and well worked out tipps.
7 months after i tried to fix my mistakes with this video, I was doing at least half of these mistakes now its only 1-2 and the other are mostly eliminated. Really helpful tips to correct wrong technique!!
Good on the bookmarks and edits. Always getting better! Love the side shots paired with front shots for the “finishing over the eyes” section. That helps explain the issue super well.
Thank you Coach. Few things I would definitely need to try and improve and develop new, correct habits. Thanks again for the clear instructions and explanations.
Great video and will share with my training partners who fall exactly in those mistakes. What worked for me as an amateur is to reset my technique. This falls with your bonus tip regarding "feeling like the old thing". Usually people try to get back to their comfort zone after taking a long break from training (including all the wrong movements). I always try to immediately correct my technical foundation. Since the movements are not feeling like the old ones, might as well just develop the new and correct way and keep practicing that until it feels normal.
Thank you for another great video. I espcially recognize The going out of control part. It has really helped to do one loop, block and then another loop as you suggested.
Hey,what about oversteping particular in match, how to fix that in practice i never oversteping, but in match especially when i get long in the corner of the table. it is called "chicken wing" haha, that's what my friend calls it
As usual amazing video! I am stuck with blocking too much with the forearms. It's close to poke but in the middle of the rally I can't have enough time to charge for the next shot. Like a Harimoto, But the level is way different ,I block until I get a nice shot to smash or drive. lol
These tips are great. Lots of little tricks for learning "wrong" from "right", referring to "contrast training". Whenever, someone wants to teach me, I always ask them to also show what I'm doing wrong (since often we already *think* we are doing it the right way). Anyhow, these tips are great!
Thanks I've been really fussing about my inability to make more loops in my game. I will remember to let it come naturally and play each point on its merit. Blessings😊
Impressive video! Congratulations. A really good summary of all type of mistakes people might do when practicing table tennis. Definitely a video not to miss for players and coaches
I from Indonesia and have learn table tennis about 6 years. But I feel my forehand not improve at third year. From this video, now I know my mistake. Thank you so much. Sorry about my bad English..
And there you were all the time ... i've been looking for this kind of material for some time and kept finding that TT instructional youtubers were producing lower quality videos. The colleciton to date has been excellent and like others I can only applaud you for sharing a subject you obviously are very passionate about. I try to be the coach when playing anyone at a lower or similar level ...the first thing i always ask is the equipment ... at the very low level there's alot of people playing with dead bats which just results in tennis type shots..... maybe a video for the future ...marrying equipment to achieve the appropriate improvements and which choices can hinder that (i.e. chosing a blade which is too fast).... we've all done it (and i think i maybe guilty of still doing it)!
this video was what i needed, i am learning top spin but my technıqes stop working from time to time and i was struggling to understand my mistake(s) and same with my gf, now i can fix both our technıques. edit: after 7 months i am coming back to this video and i can proudly say i have either completely eliminated or at least mostly reduced the mistakes i have been doing. And your tips also helped with my gf's technique too, after using the chair she suddenly became a different level player :D Thank you Sed!!
Oh my word! I think, ok, I know I have quite a few of those! That’s a really good video. Nice simple fixes to improve technique. Now, how about giving me back 30 years so I can run around more?🤣
Amazing video, thank you! After watching this video and putting the techniques you taught into practice, I turned a losing streak into a winning streak.
Hi Seth. Thanks so much, just another great video. I am struggling with my racket position. I have it too closed and too tight. The place method often works for a few topspin in a row during training but in a match I often fall back into the closed position. Do you have an advice how I can always keep my racket in the open position. Another issue is my weight transfer, I don't manage to get my weight transferred efficiently so my top spin is often too late and too slow.
Thanks a million boss, really that's kind of you , nice explanation ❤ Some mistakes I usually make them , very comprehensive were explained by you . A short word thank you lovely teacher❤❤❤❤
I truly love the way you approach explain and clarify all issues...excellent video.... and i am guilty of 80% of them... at least i know what why and how... in order to improve and coach others..
Thank you very much! You are a legend man! I had a problem with the backswing of my forehand where I basically moved my arm back causing it to lose consistency and power, your advice of putting the racket close to the thigh made my forehand improve by 90%!
I have the Closed to Open problem. I don't do it on purpose. When I do imitations it's Closed to Close or I can easily do Open to Close, but as soon as I hit the ball, my arm opens and I end up with my forehand side looking to the right in a vertical position. Will try what you suggested to fix it...
The good news is if you can do it without a ball you can do it with a ball, it’s just your brain trying to do what it knows, so maybe try and close you eyes when the ball is coming and do the proper stroke who cares if you make contact, but since a ball is coming you have the pressure that makes you revert. And feel what your doing and then go and try to do it with your eyes open
I think I've transitioned too quickly to a fast rubber and I've never really learned how to make forehand loops. My backhand is killer. A coach gave me a bat with a slow rubber which I've hated in the beginning, but I admit that it helped me correct some bad habits. I obviously do not smash or punch as before, since now I have to employ far more effort and far more speed to obtain comparable results. I'm committed to develop a decent loop technique but still with speed, keeping the ball low. The slow bat is slowly tearing down. The next one will be fast once again but I guess I be a far better player after this experiment. Thank you a lot for your excellent videos.
Your explaine so good you learn me things that i sometimes know but to a much higher level.and a lot of details you also show clips so we can see . We should pay you for all this info very intersthing
I think I make every single mistake you are demonstrating in the video. But at least now I know how to fix them 😂 thanks for your great work and I'm looking forward to having you showing me all my backhand mistakes.
i beg you show us your technique, thatll be hilarious 😂
Same here. 😂😂😂
And you're not dead???
You are a life saver, these tips have been super helpful
Thanks glad you get something from them
Your forehand and backhand videos were very helpful to a 1550 level USATT player
Thank you!! Glad you like them 🙌 more to come

Top notch. Often coaches don’t explain the why, and for me that does not work for me. I have a ‘stuck on too of the ball’ problem for sure!
Great summary of common mistakes and corrections. As retired table tennis coach I saw some new corrections, wished I had known...
This is top quality coaching. I've been playing TT for a few years now and have only recently started working with a coach. Seth, showing solutions makes your work invaluable!! Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏 Now I can start working on a concrete subject, this is so great 🙋🏻♂️👏🏻
Please make a video about backhand mistakes too!

Glad you think so I try my best I will keep trying to improve!
I will have to watch this over and over again. Thank you for the video and the bookmarks is incredibly helpful
It’s here for you :) glad you liked it
This video is amazing. I like that you explain why it's a bad habit and how to train yourself out of it. I'm guilty of a lot of these 😂.
Wow. Thank you very much. I saw many mistakes that I made and now I understand why my level couldn’t move up. Do appreciate it. Again thank you.👍
Best video ever was looking for long time ❤❤
One of the simplest and most efficient tips I have seen on TT instruction videos. Thank you very much 🙂
Best table tennis videos on youtube by far, hope we see more tournament videos in future as well! 😁
Brilliant video. I'll be trying the Rafael Nadal exercise next time to (hopefully) stop finishing low. Thank you.

Yes to the point is good! Thanks for watching
Thank you I have a lot of problems with my swing after looking at your video. Thank you 🙏🏽

Thank you very much another bookmark video for me to get better, thanks Champ
I make all of these mistakes. Thank you for explaining how to fix them so clearly.
😂😂 now you can hopefully fix them!
Very nice explanation of mistakes I can see at every tournament and in the mirror.
Thank you. This is an eye opening and great help.😊

Another excellent video from Seth! Thank you for assembling all possible FH mistakes into one powerful and useful video. Much appreciated!
Glad it’s been helpful!
Seth you're a gem

Amazing video can you do a same video for the BH side?
the point at 11:50 is important but differs for me on the used material as well. For tenergy and dignics it is for sure butter and bread technique. very good and well worked out tipps.

Yes easy to fall into bad habits again, and also to your point I’ve found after taking a break from the table I can remold habits I knew I was making
Awesome video! I am working on improving my technique, and this is one of the best FH videos I've seen so far, to help with that. Thanks!
Hi Seth! Great to see a new video from you! Thanks for posting, great insight and helpful suggestions as usual! 😊
Yes it’s been a while since my last post good to be back
Thank you for another great video. I espcially recognize The going out of control part. It has really helped to do one loop, block and then another loop as you suggested.
Glad to help! I also had this problem 😅

As usual amazing video!
I am stuck with blocking too much with the forearms.

Perfect explained and shown, for me as a beginner very, very useful. Thank you very much 👍👍👍
i have 10 of these mistakes , not easy to get rid of old habits , thanks for good useful pointers how to fix.

Awesome❤🇧🇷
Amazing video, thank you! After watching this video and putting the techniques you taught into practice, I turned a losing streak into a winning streak.
Thats great! best of luck to you and hope you keep improving!
I love the contrast training, and I use it a lot myself when I need to correct my form.
Yeah it’s super potent
Wow. Simply best tt coaching video. Awesome tips, particularly the very last bonus tips. Thank you for making this video.
Glad you liked the tips as well as the bonus tips I’m glad I decided to keep them In the video I was thinking of excluding them.
Great video, i found some mistakes with My forehand, Im exciting to watch the video of mistakes of Backhand.
That towel saturation analogy was amazing!
This is a great video. Pls make one for the backhand. Thanks
Iam a private coach for some years now, this sums up, what all my students do wrong, also found some points that I can improve :)
glad we are on the same page!
pure gold!
Thank you for the tips, I tried to solve my mistakes and my game improved instantly
Glad to hear it :))
Absolutely brilliant coaching tips.

Thank you! I’m glad you liked the video and think it helps your game :)
I truly love the way you approach explain and clarify all issues...excellent video.... and i am guilty of 80% of them... at least i know what why and how... in order to improve and coach others..
very comprehensive and clear - thanks for posting.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you gentellman a real teacher
Thank you :) 😁
awesome video, I make some of these mistakes. Will try to fix it asap.
Great best of luck!
Feels like i should pay money for this, amazing, thank you!
Probably should but it’s ok :)
