I’d love to know which parts are backwards compatible. Like the mudguards or roller wheels. Some of these changes look like genuine design improvements, not just weight saving measures. Also, are the pedals unchanged? No mention here - unless I missed it!
The bearings on Brompton’s standard right-hand pedal are in my experience of poor durability. My solution has been to swap the right-hand pedal for something more durable. And given all the quirks of the Brompton anyway, any mis-match of pedal style/form is of little consequence really. In contrast, the folding left-hand pedal seems to be well engineered with proper bearings! I am more than happy with the folding one🙂
Yes, I would like to know, also, especially the wheels and mudguards. Thank you for asking this and I look forward to learning if they will be. Btw, I have 2 of these pedals and love them, one in black for my flame lacquer and one in silver for my older raw lacquer: MKS Pedal SYLVAN TOURING NEXT Ezy Superior.
I purchased a P-line. Observations/changes made include: 1- The 3-roller design has poor rolling performance ( the 4-rollers rack is needed ). 2- The continental tires are the best option. Use Stans tire sealant for peace of mind, and 95 PSI for pedaling efficiency. 3- The four derailleur gears lack a lower gear that allows for fast speed. A front crank with a larger sprocket is needed. 4- The handlebar grips also need to be changed, too small for big hands. Thank you for your videos.
Bromptons are obviously the bees knees of small folding bikes. (actually have seen some other uber cool bikes in this category), however, purchased a Reid branded bike from a bike shop of that name in Melbourne for $349 AUD. I'm upgrading a few parts, and funnily enough going to fit BMX forks, stem and bars to it, and a 10 speed drive train and lighter wheelset to it. Even stock, the bike is okay. I put it in the back of my Toyota Echo hatchback , drive to where I want to go, then whip it out, unfold it and ride it. I'm rapt with my purchase and can slowly upgrade, yet still enjoy it in it's current form. Cheers!
Thank you for your review. This new line is a small step to modernize the Brompton brand and I can't wait for your test ride. I am secretly hoping they also release a new model with more than 6 speeds.
A challenge for any derailleur system on small-wheeled bikes is its proximity to the ground and the consequent assault from road dirt/grit/water. Please update us in due course how well the P Line 4-speed system fares in this regard 🙂 In context, on my 2018 M6L, it was the derailleur changer that very soon (within only a couple of winter weeks) gave me problems and a disappointment. However, this problem prompted me to come up with a home-brew solution - by making a bigger front mud flap. This reduces the amount of bad stuff getting to the critical parts of the mechanism. I cut a new flap from semi-stiff plastic such as one finds in the separators in some “ring-binder” folders. The plastic is a fair bit stiffer than the Brompton flap so it holds shape well, but not so stiff as to compromise the fold. My flap is 5cm longer than the standard flap which means it is 7cm clearance from the road rather than the yawning 12cm, and I find this is really effective at keeping things cleaner. This is something anyone could make up themselves. It also helps to keep my feet drier 🙂 A great vid btw, plenty of interesting and informative content, well produced! 👍

After watching all your video, I start to upgrade the brompton myself and I find another dimension of joy doing it. No more paying people to change this and that. - THANK YOU!

Great video as usual❗️lots of improvements. I especially like the new locking mechanism. Plus an all new bottom , couldn’t we all use one of those! Maybe one day they’ll come out with what I and I’m sure lots of other people have been hoping for , a knobby tire version to make light off road excursions possible . I do it anyway but a wider tire would make it less sketchy 😁 It would be a real Explorer❗️ 🌎
the conti urbans do better than expected off-road, but then I've ridden kojaks off-road in summer (they fail totally in sandy surfaces). Standard marathons do the best all round off-road in my experience, but certain NCN trails in wrong conditions will be all sorts of wrong, whatever brommie tyre.
All this re-design looks very promising for the future Brompton models. Maybeeee they will start implementing a few of these changes to the regular line. Having a lighter foldable bike never hurt anybody.

Hello, What a fantastic review of the P-line bike. I love the new 4 speed invention I think it give someone the opportunity to have more options when purchasing a brompton.
That audio quality :-( Happy 2022 ! Somehow I don't like those new mudguards, looks a bit weird. Not sure if using like P - C etc line will make it easier for newcomers to understand. Seems like they upped the quality on components a lot!
This will be a perfect companion for my heavily modified b75, stone grey ideally but I will change the mudguards to a grey colour coded carbon fibre mudguards…..thanks for sharing
very thorough. I wonder if a model will be made with a 44-tooth crank to reduce the low gear ratio a bit, hopefully making pedaling a little bit easier. I’’ve seen a couple models that did this, but not recently.
Lovely review. May I know if the Brompton Rack Bag will fit on the roller-frame (rack) version of the P-Line? The new P-Line rack seems shorter than the C-Line ones.
HAPPY 2022! I think this is a long awaited video :) Is this "lower stop device" retro compatible with the traditional frame? It seems that for this new stop to work properly in "shopping mode", an extended seatpost is a better choice to be able to push the bike when locked.
I love your videos. I hope for a review of the latest P Line Explore 12 Speed with test drive. It's easier now to choose a brompton because of your reviews. I'm from the Philippines. 😊
I am not much of a biker but do enjoy watching your videos. They almost have an ASRM effect 😂 BTW, will there be a similar in-depth video about the T line? Thx!
It is lovely and light and with lots of new bits! The starting prices are £2244 -we try to stay away from prices! But as you asked! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for the videos and I enjoyed all of them very much. I like to request whether you can make a comparison of the C-Line Vs P-Line or T-Line on the gear systems. Many thanks.
Was wondering if you could make a video on how to set up the gears for the advance derailleur on the P line. Mine seems to be skipping quite a bit as i ride
Ooohhh good question. It really depends what you are planning to do with the bike. I really like the lightness of it, so great for commuting! If possible I would try to demo one to see how you find it. Thanks for the question and for watching!
Excellent informative video. I feel that Brompton may be innovating TOO quickly. My amazing 2021 H6R now feels truly ancient. Then again, I am ancient, so we continue to be an excellent match. Most of my changes to the bike (Telescopic seat post, Lezine road drive pump hiding in the seat post, RAM mount for my phone, Brompton tool kit, inner tube hiding in the frame...) added more weight. I would probably do the same to the P. And so... I am perfectly happy, just feeling like my brilliant new Brompton, is now vintage... like me. Thanks as always!
Thank you for the great detailed info on the P line! I like a 44t chainring. Can I install one on the P line, and will the chain catcher move down to accommodate it?
Amazed to see this coming out after the C line was launched not too long ago. But anyway , tried to get a P line but sold out fast , don’t know where they have ended up but definitely not London as I haven’t seen one about . I also hope they add some colourful ones not just grey & black
4-speed and a real derailleur is quite a change. It's a shame there's no way to add to an older superlite. I've ordered that nifty new seatpost stopper, I know it won't work as intended, but I'll leave the old stopper in place and see if I can customise it and utilise the nifty cable routing function of it.
I had a go with the new part. Certainly requires the new advanced triangle. I've kept it as a future spare but at this point can't see a way at the mo to modify as there no space on the old triangle even if I shaved down the new part by a lot.
And my older model 2019 LightweightM6LXBrompton, with some modifications and updates, and still some room for becoming lighter (and with the original mudguards), for now weighs 9,35 kilo! But it seems that Brompton has done some homework to make the bike better and lighter. Are the new titanium-bike type hinges also used on this bike? Finn. Denmark
Thanks for all your great videos! The axle that the tensioner cog moves on seems vulnerable to contamination by road grit while riding. Wonder how well it will work.
After a 100 miles on my new P line I can confirm it doesn’t get much dirtier than the chain or any other sprocket. Just clean it along with the rest of the drivetrain during maintenance
Sorry I am slow -does the new gearing give the same bottom line options as the current 6-speed option? Also do you think the new design involving the re-designed rear triangle and gearing will trickle down to the non-titanium version? Thanks
👍❤️🚴 good report question 🙋♂️ on making the Brompton video I saw 👀 on the p line it said strengthen titanium forks and carbon front different and seat stem having tested it the gears ⚙️ similar to the 3 speed? ie 4 external gears ⚙️ I found it a shame you can’t get 6 speeds and you can’t fit a back rack also some people said to light I’ll love ❤️ have one but they said you have to be invited 🙏🤔🎥ps you had me worried 😟 for a moment ie I’m going to try a p 😅 keep safe Brompton video queen 👸 love to you ❤️🔧
Congratulations on yet another great video! This is one of my favourite channels on Bromptons. I still don't own one, but I will probably get a Brompton in the near future. I had my mind set on a Explore C-line, but the P-line, despite its higher price tag, seems a great improvement. The only major concern I have is the 4 gears, which gives us a shorter range than the 6-gear C-line options. How much missing the top and low gears (as compared to a 6 gear C-type) affects speed and climbing? Is there any alternative to increase the gear range simply by changing the sprockets? Thank you very much.
Thanks so much for your kind comments You are not alone - it "seems" like the gearing isn't so good for many people We plan in approx 1 week to try and compare the 3 / 6 / 4 speeds on a ride - the difficulty we are having is what to measure / compare We could have a set distance - and compare how may revolutions it takes in each gear on each bike (we could use a gear calculator for that) We could do a drag race and see when we spin out on each bike We could do a steep climb and see if we can make it on each bike but there is so much subjectivity What would you like to see measured / compared?
@@brilliantbikes , thank you very much for your reply. Perhaps a good test would be to try out the limits of the upper and lower gears. For example, to test the first gear on each model, perhaps the tester could start from a stationary position at the bottom of a climbing terrain and see how far or how quickly she/he could go in first gear. For the top gear, your suggestion of a race to see at which distance the tester spins out on each bike seems to be a good idea. Anyway, this would be a very interesting video indeed!
Many thanks for the question and for watching. We hope to be able to make some ride videos, but I think from the gearing, I would rather the range of a 6 speed to take on the bigger climbs. But the lightweight would be an advantage.
For me it's like having a b-side kind of Diana Rigg talking about Brompton matters, just love her!

I love your videos. I hope for a review of the latest P Line Explore 12 Speed with test drive. It's easier now to choose a brompton because of your reviews. I'm from the Philippines. 😊
Many thanks for watching! The 12 speed is on the list!
I am not much of a biker but do enjoy watching your videos. They almost have an ASRM effect 😂 BTW, will there be a similar in-depth video about the T line? Thx!
Thank you so much! Fingers crossed we will do a T Line video in time!
It sure looks great but I wonder what it's gonna cost. Maybe I'll just hold on to my 6-speed C-line a little longer.
It is lovely and light and with lots of new bits! The starting prices are £2244 -we try to stay away from prices! But as you asked!
Thank you for watching!
@@brilliantbikes thank you too 😀
Thank you for the videos and I enjoyed all of them very much. I like to request whether you can make a comparison of the C-Line Vs P-Line or T-Line on the gear systems. Many thanks.
Many thanks for watching!
We are planning on making further P Line videos as soon as we get one to keep!
I have found a chain-catcher for my a few years old Lightweight, and it functions fine.
It would be nice to have more color options. Thank you for the perfect video, very well explained.
Thank you for your lovely comment. The colours do look lovely, but yes always nice to have different options.
Was wondering if you could make a video on how to set up the gears for the advance derailleur on the P line. Mine seems to be skipping quite a bit as i ride
Thanks for this wonderful video! Do you recommend spending the extra money to upgrade to P-Line?
Thank you so much for watching!
We also love our standard Brompton, not thinking of them as old, just our friends!
I too have the 2021 h6r in black. I am pretty ancient as well now that you mention it! 🍻 Cheers!
Thank you for the great detailed info on the P line! I like a 44t chainring. Can I install one on the P line, and will the chain catcher move down to accommodate it?
Many thanks for watching and for the question. Yes you can change the chainring, the chain catcher also moves.
I can’t wait for the T line
T line sounds amazing. probably astronomical in price
Amazed to see this coming out after the C line was launched not too long ago. But anyway , tried to get a P line but sold out fast , don’t know where they have ended up but definitely not London as I haven’t seen one about . I also hope they add some colourful ones not just grey & black
Thank you for watching! We were impressed at how light they are and all the new changes- exciting 😀
Wow . 8 spoke difference. Changes the way I see the bike and want to upgrade at once
It is a lovely bike. So many new things 😀.
Thank you for watching!
Sorry no you need the Advance rear triangle.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice presentation! Thanks for that! Are there some more colours planned?
Many thanks for watching and for your lovely comment. Sorry we just don’t know about the planned future colours.
Finn. Denmark
Thanks for the question. No the P Line has aluminium hinge clamp plates and levers
perfection-i want one!
We agree, they look lovely and so light!
Thank you for watching!
@@NationX Thanks! That’s good to know, especially since that design will be used for many years.
Sorry I am slow -does the new gearing give the same bottom line options as the current 6-speed option? Also do you think the new design involving the re-designed rear triangle and gearing will trickle down to the non-titanium version? Thanks
No. It only provide 4 gears, similar to the 3 speed gearing.
Sorry no idea about any changes to the standard Brompton.
@@brilliantbikes thanks
I like how lightweight it is, but its seatpost doesn't seem to be standard, I am concerned it is gonna be too tall to me
The seat post used is the same as on the C Level be Brompton, so you can change to the extended or telescopic.
Thanks for the question!
👍❤️🚴 good report question 🙋♂️ on making the Brompton video I saw 👀 on the p line it said strengthen titanium forks and carbon front different and seat stem having tested it the gears ⚙️ similar to the 3 speed? ie 4 external gears ⚙️ I found it a shame you can’t get 6 speeds and you can’t fit a back rack also some people said to light I’ll love ❤️ have one but they said you have to be invited 🙏🤔🎥ps you had me worried 😟 for a moment ie I’m going to try a p 😅 keep safe Brompton video queen 👸 love to you ❤️🔧
Wish it had an outside indicator for when full
Congratulations on yet another great video! This is one of my favourite channels on Bromptons. I still don't own one, but I will probably get a Brompton in the near future. I had my mind set on a Explore C-line, but the P-line, despite its higher price tag, seems a great improvement. The only major concern I have is the 4 gears, which gives us a shorter range than the 6-gear C-line options.
How much missing the top and low gears (as compared to a 6 gear C-type) affects speed and climbing?
Is there any alternative to increase the gear range simply by changing the sprockets?
Thank you very much.
Thanks so much for your kind comments
You are not alone - it "seems" like the gearing isn't so good for many people
We plan in approx 1 week to try and compare the 3 / 6 / 4 speeds on a ride - the difficulty we are having is what to measure / compare
We could have a set distance - and compare how may revolutions it takes in each gear on each bike (we could use a gear calculator for that)
We could do a drag race and see when we spin out on each bike
We could do a steep climb and see if we can make it on each bike
but there is so much subjectivity
What would you like to see measured / compared?
@@brilliantbikes , thank you very much for your reply. Perhaps a good test would be to try out the limits of the upper and lower gears. For example, to test the first gear on each model, perhaps the tester could start from a stationary position at the bottom of a climbing terrain and see how far or how quickly she/he could go in first gear. For the top gear, your suggestion of a race to see at which distance the tester spins out on each bike seems to be a good idea.
Anyway, this would be a very interesting video indeed!
Is that the bronze sky color? With the leather saddle?
The Bronze Sky comes with the Superlight Brompton saddle as standard
Thanks for watching!
I also heard that the T Line is coming too. Can you also review that if you got one just in case?
Wonder how this bike will be like on Mt. Ventoux. Or Stelvio...
I want one.
Many thanks for the question and for watching.
We hope to be able to make some ride videos, but I think from the gearing, I would rather the range of a 6 speed to take on the bigger climbs. But the lightweight would be an advantage.
Good type… very hansome 😊👍
We agree it’s a lovely bike, both technically and to look at!
Thank you for watching
I am thinking of getting a P Line for touring, but how does it compare to my M6R?
Last years model T line is the new GOD.
We can’t wait to ride one! Thank our for watching!
By the way, have you done a test ride to show how efficient the gearing system is on the P Line..?
You mentioned you would…
I know it’s near the top of the list! Can’t wait to do it!
Can you climb with this bike? Comparing with a 6 speed?
Many thanks for the suggestion! Oh I feel another hill climb coming on! 4 versus 6 speed!
Thank you and thank you for watching!
yeah, you can swap out a smaller front chainring, but the range is relatively limited (like a 3 speed BWR hub)
thorough and helpful~!!
Thank you for watching!
