Bromptons are obviously the bees knees of small folding bikes. (actually have seen some other uber cool bikes in this category), however, purchased a Reid branded bike from a bike shop of that name in Melbourne for $349 AUD. I'm upgrading a few parts, and funnily enough going to fit BMX forks, stem and bars to it, and a 10 speed drive train and lighter wheelset to it. Even stock, the bike is okay. I put it in the back of my Toyota Echo hatchback , drive to where I want to go, then whip it out, unfold it and ride it. I'm rapt with my purchase and can slowly upgrade, yet still enjoy it in it's current form. Cheers!
I always love your review and many of the video guides. The "British" style explanation is what draws me to it. It is detailed, not too fast, and with very clear description of what is intended. After watching all your video, I start to upgrade the brompton myself and I find another dimension of joy doing it. No more paying people to change this and that. - THANK YOU!
A challenge for any derailleur system on small-wheeled bikes is its proximity to the ground and the consequent assault from road dirt/grit/water. Please update us in due course how well the P Line 4-speed system fares in this regard 🙂 In context, on my 2018 M6L, it was the derailleur changer that very soon (within only a couple of winter weeks) gave me problems and a disappointment. However, this problem prompted me to come up with a home-brew solution - by making a bigger front mud flap. This reduces the amount of bad stuff getting to the critical parts of the mechanism. I cut a new flap from semi-stiff plastic such as one finds in the separators in some “ring-binder” folders. The plastic is a fair bit stiffer than the Brompton flap so it holds shape well, but not so stiff as to compromise the fold. My flap is 5cm longer than the standard flap which means it is 7cm clearance from the road rather than the yawning 12cm, and I find this is really effective at keeping things cleaner. This is something anyone could make up themselves. It also helps to keep my feet drier 🙂 A great vid btw, plenty of interesting and informative content, well produced! 👍

I purchased a P-line. Observations/changes made include: 1- The 3-roller design has poor rolling performance ( the 4-rollers rack is needed ). 2- The continental tires are the best option. Use Stans tire sealant for peace of mind, and 95 PSI for pedaling efficiency. 3- The four derailleur gears lack a lower gear that allows for fast speed. A front crank with a larger sprocket is needed. 4- The handlebar grips also need to be changed, too small for big hands. Thank you for your videos.
Great video as usual❗️lots of improvements. I especially like the new locking mechanism. Plus an all new bottom , couldn’t we all use one of those! Maybe one day they’ll come out with what I and I’m sure lots of other people have been hoping for , a knobby tire version to make light off road excursions possible . I do it anyway but a wider tire would make it less sketchy 😁 It would be a real Explorer❗️ 🌎
the conti urbans do better than expected off-road, but then I've ridden kojaks off-road in summer (they fail totally in sandy surfaces). Standard marathons do the best all round off-road in my experience, but certain NCN trails in wrong conditions will be all sorts of wrong, whatever brommie tyre.

Hi, I'm going to buy P line urban at the end of this month. Is there any potential problems arising from the gears slipping or needing more adjustment please?
So far we have not had any issues with the gearing on our P Line. We actually find the rear wheel easier to change than the hub gears. Thanks for watching!
really enjoying my p-line .... starting to get very competitive when accelerating away from lights when on London. looking at titanium/carbon upgrades to reduce the weight further.

Is there anything that’s is better on the C line over P if I’m OK with the cost? For example are they sacrificing anything like strength and durability for weight?
Good question! It depends what you are looking for. I’ve been impressed with the lightness of the P Line, but you loose the ease of the hub gears, and some of the range. I also think for longevity the hub gears are amazing, and TBH not tested the 4 speed for long enough to compare.
@@brilliantbikes Thanks! After asking the question I also found people talking about the gear range being a major factor. I do use the slowest gear on my current 8 speed folding bike. Looks like the C would be better for me.
Lovely review. May I know if the Brompton Rack Bag will fit on the roller-frame (rack) version of the P-Line? The new P-Line rack seems shorter than the C-Line ones.
Thanks for the question It really depends upon your riding style / flexibility All models should work but probably at your height you’d need a telescopic seat post You should try a demo bike at your local dealer (or us)
are there any differences between the 2022 & 2023 p-line ? Looking at my first Brompton after my Airminal was stolen. I know i'll have a lot of carrying to do so the weight saving over the cheaper c line is quite important.
Thanks for the question (and sorry to hear about your Airminal) Basically no - not even the colours Longer answer: There were some early P Line (the first batch) which had aero type rims though these changed to the standard C Line rims (still with the lightweight hubs and 20 spokes on the front) for batch 2 onwards The saddle has been variable due to supply chain issues - though a lot of people will put on a preferred saddle anyway. As of early 2023 they are coming with a Fizik Alliante R7 Initially there was a choice of Marathon Racer / Continental Contact Urban or Schwalbe One Black tyres from the factory Now they are all configured with Continental Contact Urban - though these can of course he changed
I love your videos. I hope for a review of the latest P Line Explore 12 Speed with test drive. It's easier now to choose a brompton because of your reviews. I'm from the Philippines. 😊
Thank you for the great detailed info on the P line! I like a 44t chainring. Can I install one on the P line, and will the chain catcher move down to accommodate it?
Many thanks for watching and for the question. We have not seen the new A Line, but it’s just a different colour from the B75 and we really like them. It’s a great entry to the Brompton family.
Excellent informative video. I feel that Brompton may be innovating TOO quickly. My amazing 2021 H6R now feels truly ancient. Then again, I am ancient, so we continue to be an excellent match. Most of my changes to the bike (Telescopic seat post, Lezine road drive pump hiding in the seat post, RAM mount for my phone, Brompton tool kit, inner tube hiding in the frame...) added more weight. I would probably do the same to the P. And so... I am perfectly happy, just feeling like my brilliant new Brompton, is now vintage... like me. Thanks as always!
Sorry I am slow -does the new gearing give the same bottom line options as the current 6-speed option? Also do you think the new design involving the re-designed rear triangle and gearing will trickle down to the non-titanium version? Thanks
Hello, What a fantastic review of the P-line bike. I love the new 4 speed invention I think it give someone the opportunity to have more options when purchasing a brompton.
Ooohhh good question. It really depends what you are planning to do with the bike. I really like the lightness of it, so great for commuting! If possible I would try to demo one to see how you find it. Thanks for the question and for watching!
Many thanks for the question and for watching. We hope to be able to make some ride videos, but I think from the gearing, I would rather the range of a 6 speed to take on the bigger climbs. But the lightweight would be an advantage.
Great video! Considering my first Brompton and wanted to see your opinion between a Superlight (2225) or P Line (2775)? Is the new P Line worth the $500 price difference in your opinion? I'm pushing my budget for both. Or is it just smarter to get the C Line? Thank you. Loving your videos.
It’s a great question! The answer I’d say is what you plan to use your Brompton for. If you want a wide range of gears, for example to ride bigger hills, I’d go for the 6 speed, so either a C Line of an older superlight. If you plan on not such big hills and value a lighter bike then the P Line. Hope this helps and bit and thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching and for the question. Looking at the Brompton store locator, there are some dealers in Manila, link as follows: www.brompton.com/find-a-store
Do we know if the new wheels, fenders, and suspension block would fit on the previous model of Superlight? When I learned about this 4-speed system, I went out and got a Superlight with the 6 speed system (I prefer the range and the hub).
It is lovely and light and with lots of new bits! The starting prices are £2244 -we try to stay away from prices! But as you asked! Thank you for watching!
I wonder if you can help. I got the P line and when folded it does not want to roll at all. Think the brakes are pulled and front wheel rolls, plus mine comes with schrader
Many thanks for watching. Have you tried the seat post pulled up slightly? As the stopping block is different on the P Line, as long as the seat post is in contact with the stopping block, the frame will be locked. You can then tip it on the rear wheels and roll it. The schrader vales are as the newer P Line wheels use the C Line rims, so need a Schrader valve not the Presta as in the original video we posted.
👍❤️🚴 good report question 🙋♂️ on making the Brompton video I saw 👀 on the p line it said strengthen titanium forks and carbon front different and seat stem having tested it the gears ⚙️ similar to the 3 speed? ie 4 external gears ⚙️ I found it a shame you can’t get 6 speeds and you can’t fit a back rack also some people said to light I’ll love ❤️ have one but they said you have to be invited 🙏🤔🎥ps you had me worried 😟 for a moment ie I’m going to try a p 😅 keep safe Brompton video queen 👸 love to you ❤️🔧
The Z line can easily be distinguished from the Y line as it's special nut is black not silver. Not to be confused with the W line which has extra large nut or the X line which has no nuts at all. Simples.
Thank you for the videos and I enjoyed all of them very much. I like to request whether you can make a comparison of the C-Line Vs P-Line or T-Line on the gear systems. Many thanks.
Thanks for all your great videos! The axle that the tensioner cog moves on seems vulnerable to contamination by road grit while riding. Wonder how well it will work.
After a 100 miles on my new P line I can confirm it doesn’t get much dirtier than the chain or any other sprocket. Just clean it along with the rest of the drivetrain during maintenance
Hi - thank you for such a wonderful in-depth review. We liked it so much that we have purchased a P-Line with mid bars (it came yesterday)! I am starting to wonder if I should have got the one with the roller frame to add some stability on shopping cart mode or do you thinks it is fine just with the single mudguard wheel? Do you think we will be able to buy the roller frame at a later date and add it to the bike? What are your thoughts on this please? Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment. So glad you got one, they are lovely! Yes the roller frame should be available to purchase soon. They do add stability! And they look very cool!
very thorough. I wonder if a model will be made with a 44-tooth crank to reduce the low gear ratio a bit, hopefully making pedaling a little bit easier. I’’ve seen a couple models that did this, but not recently.

Thanks for the question (and sorry to hear about your Airminal)
Basically no - not even the colours
Longer answer:
There were some early P Line (the first batch) which had aero type rims though these changed to the standard C Line rims (still with the lightweight hubs and 20 spokes on the front) for batch 2 onwards
The saddle has been variable due to supply chain issues - though a lot of people will put on a preferred saddle anyway. As of early 2023 they are coming with a Fizik Alliante R7
Initially there was a choice of Marathon Racer / Continental Contact Urban or Schwalbe One Black tyres from the factory
Now they are all configured with Continental Contact Urban - though these can of course he changed
@@brilliantbikes thanks for the reply. I'll (hopefully) be along soon to purchase one.
it seems that this is better in every way
Many thanks for watching. We agree it has lots of new areas! Kind of cool!
Thank you for an an excellent review. This bike has some interesting changes and, well, the gray and black are visually appealing IMO.
Many thanks for your lovely comment, and thank you for watching! The colours do look great!
I love your videos. I hope for a review of the latest P Line Explore 12 Speed with test drive. It's easier now to choose a brompton because of your reviews. I'm from the Philippines. 😊
Many thanks for watching! The 12 speed is on the list!
Hi
I want to know please
How much the bike cost
Thanks hacve a nice day
We live in USA
Thank you for the great detailed info on the P line! I like a 44t chainring. Can I install one on the P line, and will the chain catcher move down to accommodate it?
Many thanks for watching and for the question. Yes you can change the chainring, the chain catcher also moves.
I was wondering what your opinion on the New A-Line Brompton is?
Many thanks for watching and for the question.
We have not seen the new A Line, but it’s just a different colour from the B75 and we really like them. It’s a great entry to the Brompton family.
Double butted spokes are not "made of three bits of metal", they are a single length of metal that is formed into the butted shape.
Thank you! I like these, I think I'll pick one up from you later this spring, supply permitting! I'll phone the shop first.
Thanks for watching! They are proving very very popular!
Thank you so much for watching!
We also love our standard Brompton, not thinking of them as old, just our friends!
I too have the 2021 h6r in black. I am pretty ancient as well now that you mention it! 🍻 Cheers!
That fringe keeps getting into your eyes 🙂
Lovely that P-line. Can't wait watching the test-ride review.
I know my fringe was driving me crazy! Hair cut day today!
We can’t wait for the test ride either!
Great job introducing the P line!👍🎉⚡️
Thank you and thank you for watching. We are impressed at all the changes and how light it is!
Sorry I am slow -does the new gearing give the same bottom line options as the current 6-speed option? Also do you think the new design involving the re-designed rear triangle and gearing will trickle down to the non-titanium version? Thanks
No. It only provide 4 gears, similar to the 3 speed gearing.
Sorry no idea about any changes to the standard Brompton.
@@brilliantbikes thanks
Hello, What a fantastic review of the P-line bike. I love the new 4 speed invention I think it give someone the opportunity to have more options when purchasing a brompton.
The four speed looks great! Can’t wait to see how it rides!
Great review and comparison! Love the sound check for the hub! Would love to see a T Line review as well.
Thank you for watching and the kind comment
You can be sure that as soon as we can get hold of a T Line we’ll be reviewing it!
Thanks for this wonderful video! Do you recommend spending the extra money to upgrade to P-Line?
Ooohhh good question. It really depends what you are planning to do with the bike. I really like the lightness of it, so great for commuting! If possible I would try to demo one to see how you find it. Thanks for the question and for watching!
What % gear ratio had a previous hub? I am thinking a sturmey archer 6 gear . I live in chile, here we have many hills
It is a narrower range, but the lightness makes up for it a lot.
Probably get a 44t chainring
I’m sensing another Brompton in my future.
We think they are lovely! Fun to ride as well!
Thank you for watching!
It would be nice to have more color options. Thank you for the perfect video, very well explained.
Thank you for your lovely comment. The colours do look lovely, but yes always nice to have different options.
Wonder how this bike will be like on Mt. Ventoux. Or Stelvio...
I want one.
Many thanks for the question and for watching.
We hope to be able to make some ride videos, but I think from the gearing, I would rather the range of a 6 speed to take on the bigger climbs. But the lightweight would be an advantage.
Really good video! Many thanks.
Thank you for watching! And for the lovely comment!
I have found a chain-catcher for my a few years old Lightweight, and it functions fine.
Wow . 8 spoke difference. Changes the way I see the bike and want to upgrade at once
It is a lovely bike. So many new things 😀.
Thank you for watching!
Wow that was so informative. I've wanted one for years but was always concerned about it handling my weight as I'm 6.2 and ate too many pies.
Many thanks for watching! Brompton recommend an upper weight limit of 110kg
I’m in Cebu, Philippines. I’m wanting a brompton but can’t find one. Maybe I shld stop lookin for it. Tnx.
Thank you for watching and for the question. Looking at the Brompton store locator, there are some dealers in Manila, link as follows:
www.brompton.com/find-a-store
Did they update the toolkit for the new line of bicycles? Can you get the wheels off with the current toolkit?
Do we know if the new wheels, fenders, and suspension block would fit on the previous model of Superlight? When I learned about this 4-speed system, I went out and got a Superlight with the 6 speed system (I prefer the range and the hub).
Many thanks for watching and for the question. We think much of the new rear end would not be compatible with a standard Brompton.
Is that the bronze sky color? With the leather saddle?
The Bronze Sky comes with the Superlight Brompton saddle as standard
Thanks for watching!
Your video was valuable to me only seconds in, when you held the bikes up so we could get a good look at the colors.
They are beautiful! I’ve seen some comments that people think the black and grey and boring! But they are all sparkly! So cool!
Thanks for watching!
It sure looks great but I wonder what it's gonna cost. Maybe I'll just hold on to my 6-speed C-line a little longer.
It is lovely and light and with lots of new bits! The starting prices are £2244 -we try to stay away from prices! But as you asked!
Thank you for watching!
@@brilliantbikes thank you too 😀
great video as always, one quick question: how different does the midnight black to the regular black in c line? thanks in advance
The paint is metallic, so has sparkly bits in it on the P line.
Thank you so much for watching!
👍❤️🚴 good report question 🙋♂️ on making the Brompton video I saw 👀 on the p line it said strengthen titanium forks and carbon front different and seat stem having tested it the gears ⚙️ similar to the 3 speed? ie 4 external gears ⚙️ I found it a shame you can’t get 6 speeds and you can’t fit a back rack also some people said to light I’ll love ❤️ have one but they said you have to be invited 🙏🤔🎥ps you had me worried 😟 for a moment ie I’m going to try a p 😅 keep safe Brompton video queen 👸 love to you ❤️🔧
I can’t wait for the T line
T line sounds amazing. probably astronomical in price
What is the weight difference from a regular Brompton
@Art of Hookie how much does that 5lbs cost?
@Art of Hookie im just curious in the price difference for 5lbs, all of what you said can be done on any bike
The Z line can easily be distinguished from the Y line as it's special nut is black not silver. Not to be confused with the W line which has extra large nut or the X line which has no nuts at all. Simples.
😂 lol! Thanks for making us laugh and for watching!
Thank you for the videos and I enjoyed all of them very much. I like to request whether you can make a comparison of the C-Line Vs P-Line or T-Line on the gear systems. Many thanks.
Many thanks for watching!
We are planning on making further P Line videos as soon as we get one to keep!
Noticed the rear triangle has the protective layer for hook catcher. Is it by default?
Yes they arrive from Brompton with the protector on. We had just left it on.
Many thanks for watching!
@@NationX Thanks! That’s good to know, especially since that design will be used for many years.
Many thanks for watching and for the comment. It would be a simple change to lower the size of the chain ring.
