We go to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year and always stay at the PLAZA. I’m not a gambler but my husband loves to play craps, the table minimum is reasonable and their table staff are always friendly and upbeat. The pool is great and the proximity to Fremont Street is awesome! We always have at least one meal at Oscars(the best steak!) and Hash House a go go, YUM!! Lastly, Vegas’ best sports book is right across the street at Circa with a huge screen showing every game imaginable! I will say though, that you’re likely to encounter some homeless beggars and a contact high just walking around. So parents beware, it’s not a place for children.
I've always been a fan of Fremont Street over the Strip. Glad you're back, Aly! I wonder if you've convinced Chris to do a Talls video with his voiceover. 😄

I've been a sub of a few VEGAS youtubers will large followers, but am JUST NOW DISCOVERING Aly's channel for the first time. GREAT VIDEO ! Thanks Aly for the info...in fact some of this (such as the Mike Hammer show) just might alter my upcoming VEGAS VACATION plans. I will be in VEGAS for 6 days in November 2024.
Me and my wife went twice. When we went in 2022, we absolutely loved it. My wife even won 127 bucks on her 2nd spin at Golden Nugget! I got stuck on the zipline and I thought it was fun! lol We went this year and I think the later it got, the less we enjoyed it (coupled with guards yelling at us not to go inside Golden Nugget, but we went in from the other side to use the restroom and then Lyft back to Mandalay Bay). It was a good time, but then again, it was day 6 of our Vegas trip lol I was getting burnt out.
Every time I go to Vegas with the wife we stay in the strip for two weeks, we love it and we are seniors, greetings Scotland 😊 Ps we have been going to Vegas since 1998, our first hotel was the Stardust and it was Christmas.
One of our best days was in Freemont. I sat at an ‘outdoor’ bar while my daughter rode the zip line then we just sat and people watched for a couple of hours.
I completely agree on ALL of your points Aly. Especially the Mike Hammer show at the 4 Queens - my friends and I saw his show this past May and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip. He is very skilled, incredibly funny and involves the audience in the act. I HIGHLY recommend seeing him. I will return for sure, probably not my upcoming trip in a few weeks - but definitely on another occasion.
Have always loved Fremont Street, been visiting Las Vegas over 30 years, but WOW! You've introduced me to at least 3 places I've got to visit now. Thanks for taking the time to find the hidden gems a lot of folks have missed, or not discovered yet!
Thank you so much!! I go to Vegas every 7 to 9 weeks. Truth be told, I never even think of doing downtown. Now, after seeing the 2 of you staying there. Says alot! So thank you!
I love your review! I love downtown! And now ive gotta state the obvious...as I dont see where anyone else has.....You are absolutely GORGEOUS! Inside and out! I love your personality and Chris is one very lucky man! Carry on !
I agree with you, we always stay downtown! Main St Station is our home away from home (we go to Vegas at least 3 or 4 times a year, sometimes more, for many years now). They refurbished their rooms recently, Triple 7 Brewery is great for beer & food, and the buffet is good too. Awesome friendly staff, many of whom have become our friends. Their casino is smaller, not as many machines, but way less crowded and smoky which we like. We like going to Circa to eat & play, Andiamo at The D is awesome, also like Triple George and Hugo’s Cellar. Fremont St can get a little nuts at times but is always interesting! Love that they have really cleaned up the area down near El Cortez and the Container Park and Main St and Stewart as well. There are not nearly as many homeless people as there used to be. So it feels much safer to me. Of course you always have to be smart and aware of your surroundings no matter what. And it is definitely less expensive downtown than on the strip! You will never catch us on the strip unless we are going to a show or concert there, which we tend to avoid.

Thanks for sharing the great information about downtown Fremont Street. 👍 I really enjoyed your video but I must confess, after seeing the title, I came with intentions of disputing your comment to not come to Fremont Street. 😄 My favorite Hotel and casino is the El Cortez. I will actually be there at the end of this month. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Downtown is fun. I think what a lot of folks don’t realize is that despite how it appears on the map, the strip takes a LOT of walking which is killer in the summer. I’ve been to Vegas dozens of times and can attest that the machines downtown pay more often than on the strip so you can last a little longer haha!
Agreed on all points! We are going back to Vegas next week for our honeymoon and staying on Freemont St.. The Strip is fun to walk around during the day and see all those casino resorts, but there is NO better place to people watch, enjoy great bands for free, and hang out and just have fun. Four Queens is awesome too, btw!
The mechanical horse betting game is my favorite betting machine. This had been around for at least 35 years if not more. I used to go Las Vegas as a package deal back in 1989-1991 when the Fremont Experience wasn't. The charter was at Howard Hughes Airport at the time as opposed to the current airport. I laughed so hard when I managed to hit the long shot of 400 to 1 every so often on one quarter. I could not bet on the next round because it was still dispensing quarters out of the machine! 🤣 It was hilarious to take my quarters and put it in the plastic containers and wait a few minutes lining up to the cashier cage knowing that I won more than I lost. I really didn't mind getting my hands dirty from the quarters. Great memories! To know that downtown Las Vegas still have the old fashioned coin operated gambling devices is making me want to go back there and have at it at the D Casino. Thank you for pointing this out as this made my day! 😁
I was in Vegas back in 95 and was downtown and we heard what we thought was fireworks, we found out later that there was a drive by shooting. That was enough for me
Great video and I agree. I stayed at the GN Sunday through Wednesday and loved it. The best part is everything is right at your fingertips: Food, alcohol, gambling, awesome entertainment, ABC Store, etc. This year, I am doing the opposite: Nomad. Thanks 😊
Great video. Mike Hammer is truly a funny guy. I've seen him 7 times and always have a blast. Just wait until the Arts district is finished. That is going to be amazing.
I have never been to Vagas but I am planning to go in April. I bought the flight already. What do you mean there is a 2 hour check in queue at hotels. Is this all day or should you turn up early or later?.
It's been eons since went to Vegas, now that I'm retiring I may venture that way. I didn't get to see old downtown Vegas the last time like I wanted to, but since watching your reaction video, I may plan to spend my time there. Thanks for the info. 🙏
I used to work at the Golden Gate Casino back in 1985. I don't even know if it exists anymore. The Mint was across the street but I know that is gone now. It was fun and cheap back then with 99 cent buffets. It has change immensely since then.
When down on Freemont, make sure to hit up the bars on Fremont East, especially the Corduroy. They play the best rock music and IMO have the best drink in downtown with their famous habanero pickle back! Hogs and Heffer's is another bar close to the Mob Museum that's a must stop as well. Their bartenders are some of the craziest and most fun people you'll meet in Vegas.
Are used to spend at least one day for every Vegas trip once or twice a year, however, I can’t go to Fremont Street anymore because I’m sick and tired of the nonstop harassment for timeshares, and beggars, it sucks now
Your point about summer heat and less walking is arguable. The sheer heat given off by that roof is enormous, on top of the ambient heat from the day being hot. Also, does the air move around well enough ? Plus the body heat from the crowd. Unless maybe the lighting tech today is far cooler than from when I was there, heat from the displays is huge. Has it changed ?
I agree. Also, during F1 weekend on the strip the downtown area is offering a FREE huge neon music festival as a way to say FU to F1. So lets get the word out and hopefully everyone makes it out to support that great event!

It’s been awhile since I went to Fremont during my Vegas trips but last time I did go it took two and half hours to get back to Luxor hotel on bus. The vibe on Fremont was really really creepy. Lots and lots of druggies, freak show characters and people begging. Felt quite dangerous actually. Good to hear it’s getting better
I have lived here for 30 years and worked at the California hotel on Fremont Street for 26 years,it has a large amount of Hawaiian guest and they are very friendly. Come visit the Cal next time ❤
Vegas in general has gotten so squeeky tight that you could just walk into a casino, throw a benjamin on the floor and walk out and get the same satisfaction.
Since the mid-2010s, Fremont Street has been the much better value for Vegas travelers. Plus, it's actually in the city of Las Vegas! I think the turn around began when Derek Stevens and his brother bought the Golden Gate and Fitzgeralds (The D). That forced al the other hotels, especially The Plaza, to up their games. It is such a great place to visit now. Don't forget the Art District, too! I would say Evel Pie and the Atomic Cafe are must-sees. It would be really cool if those few old motels on the far end of Fremont could find some investors and renovate into new spaces like Fergusons. Great video!
Totally agree with this vid, been going there since 2009, we experienced in 2023 was your not getting value for your money, it use to be great during Easter weekend and March madness but it's gone crazy crowded too, still first timers should not be put off to visit this wonderful place because they will not know the difference from today's prices and the years gone by. Hope to visit again sometime in the future
Since I moved to Vegas and starting filming videos I've been to Fremont a bunch. I didn't like it before but now I like it alot plus the arts district kicks ass
Freemont is the best. stayed at the 4 queens. Hammer was the best. excellent show and cheap! just a great fun place plus got married by Elvis there down the street there. excellent time and yes cheap.....don't miss the strip.
The crowd on Freemont is a bit sketchy to me . I like the mob museum and of course it’s less expensive and lower table limits but I prefer the more upscale resorts on the strip . I only stay at Bellagio..Aria or Wynn . 😎😎😎
I visited Fremont St about 2 years ago. They pay 3:2 for blackjack on Fremont St. Casinos on The Strip only pay 6:5....less. I wish you had included the "Dancing GrandPa" in your video. He's a 78 year old man who dances on Fremont St. I hope he's still there!
I stayed at Four Queens back in August. My room was literally behind the Fremont Experience Stage. It was hard to sleep at night but the noise died down after three. I will stay there again as the Four Queens doesn't have a resort fee.
That only happens to newbies. Ask for the highest floors no matter where you stay, especially at the taller hotels like GN, Circa, and Plaza (but don’t go to Plaza).
Oak & Ivy in the Downtown Container park and Legacy Club (which I think I saw a quick shot of but don't believe you mentioned) are must do's if you are on Fremont St
Born and Raised, this was a great video, Try the Rebar, Makers and Finders for Lunch, Velveteen Rabit, Davy's, this is South of Fremont on the other side of Charleston st, called the Arts district, Short Drive will be El Gordo's Tacos, and if you have not been to the Peppermill it is a classic.
We feel the opposite, we always visit Fremont but prefer the main strip especially at night. Staying brand loyal gives us the ability to get great prices .
I go to the WSOP every year but this year I did notice how expensive to strip was. $38 for a dry chicken Caesar salad from Guy Fieri through the Caesar's app why they charge $3 dollars for picking it up myself at the restaurant? I took my brother to Gordon Ramsey's steakhouse and used my $100 celebration coupon from Diamond status but it wasn't even enough for tips. The bill came up to $650! Burger shake and fries at Bobby Flay's was $34 dollars. Can we just get rid of the celebrity chefs. I don't like to walk outside in the blistering heat and usually stay at Paris where the tournaments are at.
This is a good mini run down. I haven't stayed on the strip since 2010 (with one exception, work paid convention) because of all the reasons you mentioned. When i started going to vegas in 2004, anything off canopy was pretty scary. Even the walk down to the El Co was sketch. I used to take a taxi to Atomic Liquors and the Western hotel (LV's last sawdust joint!) just to avoid the blocks that are now great shopping/drinking spots. But, as great as things are now, i worry that prices are going to get to strip levels soon. Two places that hold a great place in my heart (but are shells of thier former selves) are the Downtown Grand (recently gutted gaming rules with new gaming managers) and the beautiful Main Street Station, which hasn't been the same since the pandemic.
I concur with all of this. I refuse to visit center strip any more - it's nothing more than a tourist trap and the prices of everything are completely out of control. It's either downtown (Circa is the preferred hotel to stay at but I love places like El Cortez and the Plaza too) or on the other end of town - South Point.
Hugo’s Cellar in the basement of the Four Queens…best restaurant I’ve ever been to anywhere, not just Vegas. Incredible food and old-school experience.
Fremont St = too crowded, too loud, cheap made merch, too hot, all I seen were sad looking people, I don’t know what happened, it was so much better 10 years ago
great review Aly, i too really enjoy the vibes of Fremont Street. the outdoor bands are great, TMB, Garage Boys, Alter Ego and Spandex Nation I like the best :). I have stayed at many of the hotels down there with El Cortez being my most stayed at place. What I don't like and I find to be a complete bad joke is the 'resort fees' these places charge still. While the room is listed as 30.00 a night or less, the resort fee is usually more than that and where a place like the Plaza has the nice pool a place like El Cortez doesn't have anything other than a less than impressive weight room :/. Aside from the resort fee gouging, I really enjoy downtown on Fremont and it is the only place I stay in Vegas. great place to see entertainment and interesting people as well :).
Fremont is the only place we stay now. We may go to the strip for a few hours one day, otherwise our time is spent on Fremont. It's been, this way for us for the last 10 years. Circa is definitely our hotel choice.
On my next trip to Vegas I will definitely stay downtown. I'm kinda tired of the Strip. Mainly because I like table games and the minimums on the Strip are too high.
Stayed on the strip multiple times and of course it’s good and all but once I stayed on Fremont for the first time I’ve yet to ever go back to the strip
I lived in Las Vegas for over 50 years and I heard the opening shots of 1 October from where I worked. I had to move away. It is not the place I grew up in anymore.
Some of our fav spots are there. Top bar Oak and Ivy in the container park, get a trust fall. Laundry room was an awesome experience and alway do the Mob. Still need to do arts district and Atomic.
If your a gambler stay outside strips . Fremont gaming is much better odds $15 -$10 craps compare to $25-$5O . Everything walking distance. She 💯 correct
My husband and I were just in Vegas for a week. We stayed on the strip and did a bunch of tours and went to some shows. We went to Fremont for a night. Not our vibe. I felt there were too many people there vs. the strip. Two bands and music coming from over head was a bit too much for us. Definitely lots going on if you like that type of thing. My third time in Vegas and I still prefer the strip. I feel much more at ease and somewhat more safe on the strip vs. Fremont. I don’t mind the walking. I’m from NY, so I wanted to soak up all the nice weather that I could. We walked over 30 miles in 6 days. Didn’t bother us a bit. We loved the hot weather.
Interesting. I just returned from Vegas and heard from several folks (Uber drivers, etc.) that Fremont & Downtown had gotten unsafe. Not your experience (obviously). The lower costs certainly are attractive.
We visit Vegas from Ireland roughly every 18 months & have stayed last twice on Fremont st 8nts in Plaza last time & 8 nts in Four queens the time before but i like to bet the horse racing & last time in Plaza even though they advertise a sportsbook they don`t take horse bets or show the racing so qlthough a decent hotel i won`t be back in it. The Four Queens is directly opposite the Fremont hotel & it was handy for the horse racing. Also fremont st gets very busy at night so no place for kids but having a drink is a lot cheaper downtown Some good offers & you can sit & people watch if you want. But plenty of places to eat & drink.

Love this video - Go to Freemont every visit but always stay on the main-drag and you shared so much more to explore - Thank you
I've got off the strip 18 years ago when it just started growing to much. Fremont has been my go to place ever since then.

Goodbye F1. Fu!
We usually do 4 nights on the strip and 4 nights own town. Main street is our fav , a little quieter after 4 nights on the strip
7 nights each year for me staying at the Downtown Grand. Love it there
I go to Las Vegas at least 3 times a year. I stay on The Strip because I get my room comped, but I party on Fremont Street
I have lived here for 30 years and worked at the California hotel on Fremont Street for 26 years,it has a large amount of Hawaiian guest and they are very friendly. Come visit the Cal next time ❤
Going late December and can't wait!!
I love Fremont! I usually stay on the strip and visit at least one night during my visits, but I stayed a Circa last time and LOVED it!
What is the best place to stay down town for the cost and food specials?
I'd love to stay at the Circa. Are there trains or shuttles that run to the Strip though?
Yes, there is a free shuttle called the Downtown Loop: www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Residents/Parking-Transportation/Downtown-Loop
I remember Las Vegas when Levis were only 12 bucks a pair and they were quality made in America.
The crowd on Freemont is a bit sketchy to me . I like the mob museum and of course it’s less expensive and lower table limits but I prefer the more upscale resorts on the strip . I only stay at Bellagio..Aria or Wynn . 😎😎😎
Good for you
I've been to both the strip and downtown. For better or worse, my type of people are downtown.
Fremont is one of those places where you either love it or hate it.
💯
I stayed at Four Queens back in August. My room was literally behind the Fremont Experience Stage. It was hard to sleep at night but the noise died down after three. I will stay there again as the Four Queens doesn't have a resort fee.
That only happens to newbies. Ask for the highest floors no matter where you stay, especially at the taller hotels like GN, Circa, and Plaza (but don’t go to Plaza).
@ When I go to Vegas I usually stay on the South end of the Strip. It was my first time staying on Fremont.
Try Pizza Rock and Eureka! next time you're downtown! We love everything about Fremont; need to start building our comps down there!
Oak & Ivy in the Downtown Container park and Legacy Club (which I think I saw a quick shot of but don't believe you mentioned) are must do's if you are on Fremont St
My best vacation ever was a stay on Fremont St Halloween weekend.
I've heard Halloween on Fremont is wild! In a good way
Born and Raised, this was a great video, Try the Rebar, Makers and Finders for Lunch, Velveteen Rabit, Davy's, this is South of Fremont on the other side of Charleston st, called the Arts district, Short Drive will be El Gordo's Tacos, and if you have not been to the Peppermill it is a classic.
We feel the opposite, we always visit Fremont but prefer the main strip especially at night. Staying brand loyal gives us the ability to get great prices .
Have been going to Vegas for years and stayed on Fremont for the first time 4 years ago and will never go back to the strip!
I LOVE Legacy bar ,the views are amazing and so are the drinks 🍸
Hugo’s Cellar in the basement of the Four Queens…best restaurant I’ve ever been to anywhere, not just Vegas. Incredible food and old-school experience.
My favorite pizza I ever had was at Pizza Rock, the Detroit style was so good.
Table minimums along Fremont are considerably cheaper than that of the Strip. I won a lot of money at craps at the Golden Gate.
Fremont St = too crowded, too loud, cheap made merch, too hot, all I seen were sad looking people, I don’t know what happened, it was so much better 10 years ago
Same folks as 10 years ago. The only difference is that it's expanded East and it's as safe as it's ever been.
She makes ghetto sound appealing.
I used to deal craps at the Plaza
I've got to spend more time down there. I usually only for a day or two, and spend 2-3 hours. I need all day to get off of Fremont and explore.
great review Aly, i too really enjoy the vibes of Fremont Street. the outdoor bands are great, TMB, Garage Boys, Alter Ego and Spandex Nation I like the best :).
Do these hotels have the dreadful daily spa charge like on the Strip?
I love Fremont St to hang out! I’ve always stayed on the Strip visit for years, but am making the decision to stay downtown.
New subscriber 😊
Le Thai is my favorite place to eat downtown. It is phenomenal!
Fremont is the only place we stay now. We may go to the strip for a few hours one day, otherwise our time is spent on Fremont. It's been, this way for us for the last 10 years. Circa is definitely our hotel choice.
Great video! I'm planning my next trip to Vegas.
Freemont is my go to now when I go to Vegas , hands down more fun then the strip in my opinion
I Love The D. Upgrade to a high floor The views are incredible. Elmer the Desk clerk is a Customer Service Specialist!!!
Once they imploded The Stardust, we started staying downtown (Golden Nugget). Frankly, we’ve forgotten about going out on the Strip.
Love my hometown! Love the weather. Love the strip. Love Fremont. Love everything about it. ✨❤✨
I will add those to the list, thanks!
If your a gambler stay outside strips . Fremont gaming is much better odds $15 -$10 craps compare to $25-$5O . Everything walking distance. She 💯 correct
True, you will save money, but you get what you pay for. The comparison of staying in a nice resort and an old casino is night and day.
Might be moving here next Wednesday if I sign this offer!
I loved it so much better before the canopy... all the neon did it for me and you did not need a canopy
Flying there tomorrow!
Do you remember the name where you went to eat?The all you can eat sushi?
Carson Kitchen is a great little bar/restaurant, great drinks and gourmet food!
