I Made a Cottagecore Barbie Dress!

- I am super excited about all things Barbie right now, and I decided the perfect dress for summer would be a cottagecore Barbie dress! This is inspired mainly by the amazing gingham midi dress from Fancifull Doll, which was inspired by the gingham dress Margot Robbie wears as Barbie in the new Barbie Movie.
A little disclaimer -- this is just me being very excited about the upcoming movie, and Barbie in general. I am not part of any union myself, but I do support SAG/AFTRA and the WGA in their strikes, and the strikers want people to go watch movies. I'm not being paid by any studios to make this video.

@0:11 this Barbie supports unions! 🎀💖
Raise your hand if you're surprised that she made this dress.
Oh, no one raised their hand. Shocker. 🤣
That came out lovely.
Haha! Thanks!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Enjoy the movie! 🙂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN BUILD YOUR OWN BARBIE AT THE EVENT? My eldest and I will be going in August and yes, we'll be building a doll. Can't wait for Costume College and the Barbie Experience!
Yes, I'm tempted to, but I know that what I'm really into is 80s/90s Barbies, and I shouldn't buy a new one. Lol
Adorable! The lace and the belt are absolutely the finishing touches it needed.
Thanks!
As soon as you did the intro with the scene of Barbie wearing that dress, I yelled and said out loud that's exactly your style! And it looks fantastic on you!
Thanks!
Sag is actually asking people to continue to go to the movies and watch TV shows etc because it will remind the studios how much they could be losing.
Another stunning dress. C: I would say that your blue princess dress would also make a nice Barbie outfit, even if it wasn't inspired by any particular Barbie dress.
Thanks!
Thanks for the SAG/AFRA hat tip
I just finished reading an article about the movie in my paper (one of the main papers in the Netherlands) and the influence of Barbie through the years on feminism (or not) and whilst reading - it was a great and interesting article - I couldn't help myself thinking and wondering wether or not you would pay attention the movie and make a dress. A bit shallow? Perhaps. But imagine my joy when I saw your video 😉 Love the dress!
Aww, I love that! And thanks!
Love me a good rolled hem!
love the dark pink blouse with the polka dot sleeves, makes your skin glow.
The trim on the bodice is soooo cute!
Your enthusiasm just bubbles over and I get excited to watch you enjoy the process and the dresses you make! While I have a doll phobia in general, Barbies never bothered me as much as baby dolls. I did actually have a few for a year or two, and played with my younger sister (although mine were always stored in a box that was buried under stuff in my closet at night so they couldn’t get me, lol. I really like the pink gingham and think the lace trim really adds a lovely touch. Enjoy the movie and the Barbie experience ❤ and thank you as always for sharing your talent and passion with us.
You look like something in a Disney movie. Would never think of Barbie seeing this.
Fun. Pure, delightful, giggling fun!
Thanks!
Oh thank you for mentioning the mistakes. I make those kinds of mistakes, I totally understand. Im usually very tired or something Im working on distracts me. But your work is so nice. Pay attention😜
Absolutely perfect for Barbie. Perfect for anytime. Looks gorgeous on you.
Thanks!
So cute! I was torn on the hair choice, but the blonde wig was definitely the way to go! 💞
Thanks!
I tend to do my gathering stitches by hand and only run one but use quilting thread.
Rebecca, I love how the finished product turned out! It’s so cute!
Thanks!
this dress is so cute! i love the idea for the belt and the buckle is adorable
Cute dress! It turned out so well and is definitely your style! I hope you have fun at the movie and the Barbie experience.
Thanks!
First the strikes, then the South China Sea map controversy. Who could have ever guessed that this movie would be getting so much free publicity? And for free publicity #3 (fanfare, please) your beautiful dress!
And yay! I'm looking forward CoCo videos. So much vicarious fun to be had. Since this year is by LAX, I had to re-watch the 3 minute video, "405 the Movie" by Bruce Branit and Jeremy Hunt. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who has rotated bodice pieces and only figured it out afterward! I just did this for a ren faire style bodice and not only did I do that - I then did it TWICE! xD
Oh no! Once is bad enough! 🤦♀️
@@LadyRebeccaFashions That's absolutely what I thought lol! 🤣🤣
Narrow hem the bow and you can also use it as a tie.
Such a cute dress. The details are awesome. Love the feel of fun for this video. Enjoy your Barbie movie!
Lovely, airy, fun dress!
Thanks!
Gosh, your entire vibe just cheers me up! You're so talented and cheerful and I adore that.
Aww thanks!
Wow, that was a fast sew, and it is too stinking cute on you! I can't believe it is time for Costume College; where did the time go?
Thanks! And right? I need another week before CoCo!
Barbie just never appealed to me but the dress is very pretty
Congratulations you look amazing.
Thanks!
🌹❤️
An excellent dress for you!
Love this, the lace is perfect and the whole outfit is great on you - also glad you will wear it with your own haircolour, because you look more beautyful as you than in the wig❤
I absolutely LOVE this. Thank you for the video. -Vyvyan
The pink you're wearing at the beginning of the video is gorgeous on you!
Thanks! It's a blouse from Torrid.
omg so cute! absolutely love the bottom ruffle and the sleeves!
Thanks!
PRETTY IN PINK!!!! 💗
Omg it's so pretty and twirls beautifully! 😍
Im not a gingham girl! But your new dress is so pretty, great job and enjoy your movie.😊
It's lovely! And best thing is that you can spice it up by just changing sash for glitzy or "barbie pink" one (matching shoes you showed :) ) like real-life barbie ^^
Thanks! And yes, I've found some very appropriate Barbie heels since I made this video!
Your Barbie dress came out really cute!! I LOVE it!! 😍 I wish I had a Barbie dress like that for my Barbies when I was little, I would have dressed one of them in it all the time!! 😊 Enjoy the movie as well!!
Thanks!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome! 🙂
This is a beautiful dress!!❤❤❤❤
Very sweet & I love the belt.
That’s adorable!!
Thanks!
I'm not a dress person, but I'm loving the big twirly skirt. I might have to take inspiration from that Simplicity pattern and make myself a big swooshy sheer dress/robe/thing to layer over my usual outfits
I got a very similar fabric from Online Fabric Store! I made Simplicity S9291 with it because it was the closest pattern to the dress. I love your result!
Thanks! That pattern does look really close to the movie dress.
Thanks for the info on the rolled hem foot, I've got three different sized ones that came with my 1914 hand crank machine and haven't tried them on a project yet, they seem tricky to get started.
Dress came out so cute!
I tried puffy sleeves and like them more than I thought I would, maybe I should try some ruffles next...
Thanks! One trick to starting a rolled hem is to stitch a few stitches on, so that you have thread tails that you can guide through the rolled hem foot to get started.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Oooh, thank you for that, I'm sure it'll make getting started infinitely easier!
You are so crazy talented Rebecca.
Thank you! 😊
I love all the floof for the skirt! It twirls beautifully. Have fun at the movie! I'm hoping to catch it as well. The Barbie experience looks really cool, I hope you bring us along on that trip as well. It's hard for us broke East Coasters to make it out west for all these cool things.
Thanks! I'm definitely planning to vlog my day, esp since I'm going to both World of Barbie and the American Girl store for the first time ever!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Oh cool! We've gone to the AG Store here in NYC and it's pretty cool. I prefer the historical doll section, but that's me, lol. One day I'd love to get a chance to get a table at their tea room.
@@EilonwyG yeah, we won't be doing tea there this time, but that sounds like fun sometime in the future.
always such a great fashion sense🌹
I it turned out really well! Your joy and excitement is almost contagious! Definitely made me smile. Enjoy the movie!!
Thanks!
Hope people make a ton of phat Barbies and cause them to market one
They actually do have plus size Barbies now, and there's at least a couple of plus size actresses playing Barbies in the movie, which is so great!
Ahhhhh it looks so cute!!! I meant to make myself a really cute pink gingham playsuit for the movie and then just...ran out of time. And now that's gonna be put off even further for Renaissance Festival garb sewing lol.
Thanks! Pink gingham will always be a cute look, so you could always just make it later!
So cute!
Thanks!
I just saw the movie, it's pretty great
Sweet!
07:15 Deep breaths, Rebecca. Take a tea break, and then once more into the fray. 😜😁😘🤗
I'm with you in hating the rolled hem foot.
We’re going to see the movie for my friend’s birthday, all I’m missing is a big straw hat hehehe
The rolled hem foot can sense fear..... Beware
I'm excited for the movie cuz I'm a locked tomb fan😂
So cute! 😤
Thanks!
Im also making a Barbie dress the one in the Promotion 😂 for my doll but in blue version
Really cute. ;-)
You are so beautiful, and the princess still is so cute on you.
Thanks!
😃
I was really looking forward to making an outfit for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. But a series of unfortunate events happened and I can't.
Aww darn! Isn't there still several months till that comes out?
Really cute, but pink isn't my favourite colour.
I have a slower shipping story actually. I ordered buttons from this british company. The shipping and customs itself took a month of transit. Thats expected and so i ordered 3 months in advance.
For TWO MONTHS they ignored all of my emails and it was like my order didn't exist until i started the chargeback process on paypal. Then within 2 days my order was processed and in transit.
Wow, that's ridiculous!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I got them 3 days after the event I wanted them for
Love the dress. Love you sewing. But I think I’ll pass on the movie I’m tired of men, being slammed and thinking women can do everything go build a building go build a car go build a road. We cannot do without men real men like I said we’ll be not seen this movie
OOOF don't promote Fanciful doll. They are drop shipping from china from a supplier that knocks off Selkie, the dresses also do not match the measurements or the pictures on the site. I just got burned for $500 bucks by them.
Needless to say I've learned my lesson and will make my own ballgowns from now on....
Oh no, really? I'm so bummed to hear that! I've never ordered from them, but all their dresses look so pretty on Instagram.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Ivy City Co is good though. I've ordered from them and the dresses are exactly like the pictures and the measurements are accurate.
