DRESSED in a frilly pink dress with knee high socks, a furry headband around her platinum blond hair and full eyelashes, 21-year-old Jade Smith looks more like a porcelain doll than a real life person - and that’s exactly the look she’s aiming for. Wanting to look like a real life ‘Lolita’ doll, Jade, from Wallington, Surrey, estimates she’s spent £10,000 to date on her doll-like outfits, £8,000 on shoes, not to mention the extra money spent on accessories, wigs, key chains and toys. She even has a monthly £20 glitter budget. Jade, or Princess Jadette, as she is known on social media, wants to look like a porcelain doll and admits In the future she’d like to have plastic surgery to enhance her doll-like looks.

I wonder how would she live if she had a job that didn't appreciate her 'style' of fashion and that they had a fashion code that she doesn't like she spent a whole lot of money to 'look like a doll' which in my opinion..failed, and now which money is she gonna use to buy groceries unless she's really wealthy to keep buying expensive clothes and can afford groceries and everything else needed in everyday life.

The fashion per say isn't to capture a doll look, the comment seems more based around her condition which causes her pain and movement problems. The money spent was over a span of probably 10 plus years, considering this was her interest since she was a teen. There's a thing called budgeting, people spend more on buying a new car.

I have a friend who has the same illness, there is no treatment yet for this disease, people can only take pills (antidepressants to sleep better), go to the physiotherapist, find time to rest etc. Doctors don't even really know what causes this illness (sorry for my bad english, I'm French~)
Yeah Fibromyalgia is just an umbrella term for "I can't figure out what's wrong with you" I got the diagnosis, went to different doctors and had surgery and what was it? Endometriosis and vitamin b-12 and D deficiency. Sure it sucks to be in pain every day, but therapy can help a lot if you have pain that's undiagnosed.

I totally agree with this girl. We all have our own sense of style and should be able to share it with the world. People should imbrace the differences between everyone instead of picking on those who look different. To be honest, my everyday outfits usually look like costumes you'd wear trick or treating, and that's just me. People should accept that everyone has their own sense of style.

Chynna I think it may be because most doll or Barbie lookalikes have gone through surgery but it is just her lolita style that is doll-like. With that being said, she's a lovely girl and should continue to follow her dreams, no matter who judges her style

I also have Fibromyalgia and I cosplay. It is very hard to live with. When I’m not cosplaying, I’m in bed resting and trying to ignore the pain. Cosplaying and making cosplays helps me ignore the pain and keeps me happy when it’s hard to. This is an inspirational video for me. Thank you

Lots, and I mean lots of people know about lolita, they just might not know it by name. I know in the US gothic lolita is pretty damn well known, and I imagine it is in the UK as well. Given its just a fashion subculture, it's still not that special that she needs a video dedicated to her for it. Especially when you consider what lots of people go through to get ready these days, its nothing new. I use ponytail extensions, color contacts, and spend time on my makeup as well. These are all very common, regular things now.

It's not trying to look like a doll. It's inspired by French Rococo fashion, not dolls. Documentaries are known to pay lolitas more if they call themselves "living dolls". That's a separate style entirely and looks nothing like lolita.

My mother has the same condition as well but she has to use crutches. I understand her pain in a way. It is horrific and I love that she finds something that makes her happy whilst she is in such severe pain.
Unfortunately I don’t go out much but I do like dressing up and taking the time to look pretty because insecurities get me down and sometimes I don’t feel it. I’m also totally blind and I love fashion and color because it just makes me feel like I’m expressing something that I’m not able to see that others can see in me whether that’s something I’m feeling that day, or something I want to feel even if I’m feeling really depressed that day. I don’t have much time to dress up like this on a daily basis right now but I want to start doing it. Also my mom thought she looked gorgeous and I also love the Lolita fashion, but I like different types of aesthetics when it comes to cute fashions, from Lolita, to babycore, and even just Elegant looking things. she’s given me hope to be able to express the different types of fashions I like without feeling insecure one day.

The thing is, many J-Fashion comm are super open so we got many people with disability, mental diseases, LGBT+ people etc because we don't judge, but also many "standard" people. Because nobody cares if you are in the society's standards.. J-Fash is not, anyway. ^_^

I go LARPing 4-5 times a year with my family & friends. It’s a blast. And we look rather ridiculous to most people, with our costumes and masks and foam rubber “weapons.”

I absolutely adore this fashion and she can really pull them off, but the thing that bothers me is that people think that all Lolita’s are living dolls, and that’s just not true. Also, she said it was from 80’s Japanese style, but it’s based off the Victorian and Rocco era, with slight inspiration from modern Japan.
