Amanda Waters when I worked there I preferred when they bought the whole unopened bolt, because measuring, cutting, and refolding more than 4-5 yards of tulle is like the worst. Cottons and apparels have much more structure and body to them. Tulle is so light it does what it wants. Also if you lose track of your count, you have to start all over again. Also if you know you need a LOT of tulle, you can special order it. I had someone buy like 10 bolts of 20yds of tulle once.
A lot of people underestimate how much tulle they need-even Angela, who knows a LOT, did. I remember a few years ago when poofy tulle circle skirts (calf length) were a thing... we (I used to work at Joann at the time) sold the patterns and people were shocked that to make a full looking tulle skirt you needed 15-20 yards. Since 20 yards made a bolt, there it went! I also used to laugh (to myself) at grandmas wanting to make full tutus for their grandkids with just a yard of tulle. They’d be back soon, and I’d keep a straight face as they asked for more.
@@MissCathexis What a great comment. I took all forms of ballet for 23 years -- I don't have a ballet body -- I'm too tall, short legs, long torso; knew it would never be a career, but I loved it -- so I have always been enamoured by the Russia ballet company, who make their own shoes and tutus -- I watched a video not too long ago and was shocked how much tulle it took -- and that they used stays on the rough bottom layer to hold the waist tutuos up -- I can image how much it took to make swan lake and the sugar plumb faeries -- I bet you were glad when they bought the entire bolt -- cutting tulle is the worst !!! I bought 100 % cotton crochet thread, the thick stuff like the Peaches brand, from JoAnn's to make an afghan I saw on Pinterest, thinking that's what they used -- the very nice clerk tried to talk me out of it and to buy the Caron instead -- when I went back the next day to exchange all but the one I started w/, she was very kind and did not say "I told you so," even though I assured her she was absolutely right and I was absolutely wrong.
In regards of justifying your purchase of the dolls, might be an interesting idea in scaling down vintage patterns to fit Barbie, thus making custom outfits?
kaz coll I can definitely imagine it being fiddly work! All those seams and tiny stitches. I’d imagine it’s a great sense of accomplishment finishing a piece though :)
The perfect dress for Angela the Ruffle Monster...I mean, Ruffle Homecoming Queen! Such a lovely color on you. But that Tapestry Two Piece! Wow! I need it!
“And my camera doesn’t even want to focus on it which I think shows just how horrible it is”... harsh self criticism there - but hilarious statement nonetheless 😂🤣
I love these kinds of projects that are amazing in all their ridiculousness - and I mean that entirely positively. I'm looking forward to more Barbie-inspired adventures.
yes! my grandmother in law, mother in law and I made a homemade tutu for my 2 year old for her birthday and trying to get the tulle to cooperate was a pain
As a vintage and antique doll collector I really loved this video seeing Barbie come to life, so to speak. I can't wait for others videos like this one and would love to see which reproduction barbies you have. Also if you're looking for Barbie outfit inspo some of my favourite classics are "Plantation Belle", "Dinner at eight" and "orange blossom". Cant wait to see what outfit you recreate next.
I had "Dinner at Eight " and it was always my favorite. You could use the gold lace overdress on top of other dresses, as well as the orange strapless jumpsuit it came with. I also have and love Golden Elegance (1963).
This is incredible, but girl! You worked so hard! Give us a big final reveal with lots of shots and angles before doing your outrow. Your amazing work deserves that! I love this concept, and I am definitely subscribing!
I remember my sister and her friends wearing similar dresses back in the late fifties. They did stand up alone like that! Nancy had several tulle "can-can" petticoats to wear with the poofy skirts of the day.
also for the stiffness in your petticoat i had an idea. My grandma and my mom used to tell me about how back in the day the girls would take their petticoats and starch them. then they would take them out doors and hang them on the line upside down with all the layers separated so that they would dry super large and super stiff! might help :)
That skirt would be my life. You were twirling around so elegantly in it verses if it were me I would be swishing around and playing with it like a nut case. 😂
My mom wore that exact formal back in the '50s! I saved the dress for her and gave it back to her about ten years ago, and tears came to her eyes seeing it again. She had thought it was gone forever. She's almost 80 now, and she still has it in her basement. 🙂
earlier today i was watching my usual sewing youtubers and thinking of looking for more lovely artists... then my fbi agent recommended this video to me and i have to say i am IN LOVE with this dress and have subscribed!
I've wanted to make a big pooffy ball gown since I started sewing 10 years ago (generally for cosplay) but have never found /the/ dress and I'm so so glad you did this because it reminded me of my favourite barbie dress that I remember always wanting to have one of my own when I was a child, so now, I have my next big project! Hope you do more of these, looking forward to it if you do!
What do you intend to do with the dresses once made.I thought it might be an idea to contact Mattel to see if an exhibition of your work could be shown.Hopefully they would pay you.
Oh god, it's the combination of my favourite things- big floofy dresses, historical sewing, and vintage (style) Barbie! Gorgeous! You have incredible patience to wrestle with that much tulle!
Oh my God, what a gorgeous dress!! I'm genuinely stunned, you did an amazing job ❤️❤️ by the way, Micarah Tewer is another sewing UA-camr I watch and she recreated a holiday Barbie dress as well! It'd be incredible if there two of you ever collaborate and make more Barbie dresses 😊😊
What a wonderful surprise Saturday morning. My 2 favourite fashion icons have teamed up. Now that you have made a matching dress. You might need to make her a duplicate of one of your original designs. Love you videos.
How much fun was it wearing this. BARBIE was so happy to have you twin her in the beautiful dress. All Barbie fans who played with her since the 50's watched and was happy to see one little girls dreams come true.
That shot near the end of the sewing machine with the TULLE EXPLOSION coming off of it made me laugh, not gonna lie. This is so cute! Perfect for our favorite ruffle monster 😊
Wonderful fashion sewing. This was my Maid of Honor dress in 1953 for cousin's wedding. It was yellow. Bought from bridal shop and wore it later for high school Homecoming. I wasn't queen. Mine was very itchy. You make a perfect Homecoming Queen.
What becomes of the costumes you create, do you wear them out and about, or do they just get stored away after you've posted them? I would love to see a video tour of your closet. 😄
I have my mom's prom dress from the 50s just like this--tons of netting. The only difference is hers is tea length instead of full length. I loved wearing it as a kid as my princess dress. As for Barbie outfits my favorites are Red Flare, Sophisticated Lady, Evening Splendor, and Lemon Kick.
You're makeup looks so pretty! And the dress came out lovely c': Someone mentioned you doing a audrey hepburn dress, I love the styling of that era and she looked very elegant, you should try something like that because all these styles look good on you
You look amazing in this dress!! Also that final makeup look is perfect! The mint color on your lids really brought out your eye color! And those heels were the perfect style!
My goodness! This gave me a whole new appreciation for people who independently make and sale dresses 👗 like this! Prom and wedding dresses look like a very stressful project but you killed it! This is the first video I’m watching of yours and I am so impressed! It turned out beautiful and basically an exact replica of the dolls dress! Good job, girl!
You did a good job! I would like to see you make a dress that you have always had in mind for yourself and has your own style and is vintage inspired. Mixing old and new. The perfect length for your height, color, accentuates your face and figure, etc. Your own perfect creation! 💃
With every video I’m so excited for you you get to wear such amazing outfits. But this one girl... as a seamstress and a Barbie collector you are living my dream 😍
By all the gods of she who is plastic and 11.5 inches tall! I adore the concept, I adore the dress, and I can't wait for more!!! My daughter turns 5 in October and I have ten meters of pink organza so I'm off to find a Barbie dress to make her!
Oh, wowsa !!! You did a wonderful job. I was born in 1956 in a very small town where just about everybody's mother/grandmother sewed. Here are some tips if I remember correctly, of how they overcame some of the same issues you had -- although your finished product really is beautiful -- they actually made each strip a shorter width than the one above so that it had a cascade effect, and added lots of extra length of the ruffled tulle, which people sewed a loose bobbin and pulled and pulled and pulled; your method is so much better; one I am going to try -- also, I know this from painful childhood memories of having to wear the darn uncomfortable, scratchy things -- they put a very stiff crinoline underneath, but you made the petticoat and did a great job -- I also don't remember them fitting the bodice as you did, but I do remember different people using different materials -- such as sequins across the top or small tulle ruffles around the top of the bodice -- those were the days of rhinestone jewelry, and a lot of people put a rhinestone broach at the center of a sweetheart neckline -- also, for proms, bare shoulders were against the rules, so people would somehow sew in using the soft tulle little shoulder pieces attached just in front of the arm area to the back -- does that make sense? I think you could make a good chunk of change producing these for barbie dolls and selling -- you could eliminate the lace in the skirt layers entirely -- which could give you extra bucks to buy more adorable outfits like the tapestry one you modeled -- gorgeous !!! Again, you did a wonderful, wonderful job and your result is spectacular!!
Loving this!!! I have the sugar plum fairy barbie doll from 1997 and the princess of the danish court doll from 2002 myself. And I still have all the barbie dolls I got as a kid. I just really love all my beautiful princess barbies. This dress really makes me want to get better at sewing! It’s so pretty
Such memories: I have actually watched this more than once because I love the way you adapt things as required. All sewers have to do this. When I was 16yrs. old I made two skirts for me and my friend Cynthia. I made them up in my head including, like you, (of course not as complicated as yours) the ruffling. The skirts were 3 tiers, each tier a little deeper than the other and they were made of a light cotton in the same colour as your Barbie. We were so proud of the way they looked and I wore a cap sleeved Broadriangles (spelt wrong) blouse with a Peter Pan collar, which I also made. I am 78years old now so thanks for my memory. Vera.
Such a beautiful frothy piece of seafoam wonderfulessl! I so loved full ruffled skirts and dresses as a child and could only dream of owning something like this. So glad you shared its creation with us!
This dress gives me modern-day Cinderella vibes! I love it & I admire your ability to power through when things don’t go the way you expect. Love the lining fabric too :D
such a cute project! I love the structured bodice! ❤️

walking into a jo-annes and buying the entire bolt of tulle is a power move

Big D Energy

I make vintage (and other) outfits for Barbies. It is fiddly work, but rewarding :) Need a display case now
kaz coll I can definitely imagine it being fiddly work! All those seams and tiny stitches. I’d imagine it’s a great sense of accomplishment finishing a piece though :)
@@sewell2777 for sure :)
Use up some scraps from her human-size projects to make matching barbie dresses!
Could make two copies: regular and Barbie-sized. That way, if you decide to get rid of the regular, you'll still have one for display/portfolio.
My husband’s prom date in 1959 wore that same style in pink.
My grandma had it in yellow
My deamon has it in black
My mom wore it in pale blue in 1956
My potato has it in brown
My fairy godmother wore a dress like that when I was 7 (I was an imaginative child and well something close to this)
I would love to see you do the pink dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in my fair lady.
Yes, and the other ones two!
Buffy Cleaveland too*
The perfect dress for Angela the Ruffle Monster...I mean, Ruffle Homecoming Queen! Such a lovely color on you. But that Tapestry Two Piece! Wow! I need it!
Oh, this is why people put up with sewing machines.
“And my camera doesn’t even want to focus on it which I think shows just how horrible it is”... harsh self criticism there - but hilarious statement nonetheless 😂🤣
Lizzie Dean Makes
Nothing like self deprecating humor...😄
I just imagined somebody running around in a fabric store with a Barbie instead of a fabric swatch ^^
I love these kinds of projects that are amazing in all their ridiculousness - and I mean that entirely positively. I'm looking forward to more Barbie-inspired adventures.
"Crying over piles of tulle" should be a merch shirt 🤣
I would buy it. Lol
yes! my grandmother in law, mother in law and I made a homemade tutu for my 2 year old for her birthday and trying to get the tulle to cooperate was a pain
Is no one going to talk about how that is LITERALLY carters homecoming dress from princess protection program???
Yeeeesss
I was dead THINKING ABOUT THAT OMGGG
just ice omg I love that
Hers was from Betsy Johnson, but they do look similar
I thought that it looked more like the Patty Simcox prom dress in Grease
Vintage sewing problems. 😂🤣😂🤣
“I’m also hoping I have enough fabric for it, because my local JoAnn’s only had *twelve yards* of tulle.”
Modern plastic boned hoop skirts are your friend with a project like this.

YES I thought that too, she did an amazing job!
Me: *just opened UA-cam*
UA-cam: WATCH THIS LADY MAKE LIFE SIZED BARBIE DRESS
Not that I'm complaining tho
I always thought that I was a bit of a lace monster for having no shirt without lace. Never fucking mind, Angela is the Empress of Lace and Ruffles
I remember my sister and her friends wearing similar dresses back in the late fifties. They did stand up alone like that! Nancy had several tulle "can-can" petticoats to wear with the poofy skirts of the day.
matching nail polish. I'm impressed
I loved how she did her eyes too! Girl knows how to complete a look!!!

Okay officially calling UA-cam algorithm “my FBI agent” from now on 😂😂
This is exactly what happened for me too.
@pinta lol me too once I was watching a dude perfect video and I “wearing the worlds ugliest jeans for a week” video came up😂😂

OH MY GOSH PLEASE HAVE MCCALLS PRINT THIS!!! My childhood dream would come true
*LOL* The picture of the textile-explosion at your sewing machine! Pure art! Love it! ^^
It is really spot on! Great job! Now the question rises: how does it feel to be a Barbie? :-)
Can you imagine how much tulle fabric stores used to stock? Wow.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of the Barbie fashions adventure!
When UA-cam starts gettin smart and starts actually recommending me creators who are unique and awesome and sweet and cool and lovely
What a wonderful surprise Saturday morning. My 2 favourite fashion icons have teamed up. Now that you have made a matching dress. You might need to make her a duplicate of one of your original designs. Love you videos.
Please start selling some of these. I would literally pay so much for this dress if you sold it. 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
Except these are all customs made to her body
More Barbie please! The dress turned out wonderfully, you look like an ad for Mystery Date ( a thoroughly atrocious game from the 60s)
I wa sa following your progress on Instagram, but you still blew me away at the end. It's SO FLUFFY!!!
Such a cute dress. Reminds me also of Disney Cinderella. That can never be bad.
Yeah it looks like a vintage cindirella!!!
Unicorn lining...that is so Angela. This really turned out nicely. Thank you. :)
Very well done although at some points I thought that tulle skirt would rise up and devour the city. 😁😁😁
YES! More Barbie goodness. I love how the dress turned out.
There are about five Barbie dresses that I’ve been dying to see created in human size versions. I love this idea and video of yours!
Oh, the final look is a complete dream!! Love the whole thing - it’s lace and ruffle perfection ✨
I bet you’ll never, EVER, want to sew with tulle again. Haha!
That is really beautiful Angela! And it looks perfect on you!
Good call keeping the bodice! Sometimes you just have to have that time to step back and assess. The dress is beautiful. Stunning work!!
How much fun was it wearing this. BARBIE was so happy to have you twin her in the beautiful dress. All Barbie fans who played with her since the 50's watched and was happy to see one little girls dreams come true.
Your eye make up in the introduction is so frikkin gorgeous. I just had to leave a compliment before continuing the video.
I was really unsure about the look of the dress while watching this whole video but seeing the reveal at the end was stunning. You did an amazing job!
That shot near the end of the sewing machine with the TULLE EXPLOSION coming off of it made me laugh, not gonna lie.
This is so cute! Perfect for our favorite ruffle monster 😊
I LOVE how well your nails match the tulle omg T_T
I didn’t know I needed a dress like this. But now I do. Glorious. Simply glorious.
You have such a warm and comforting presence. This turned out beautifully and your recreation of the makeup was also perfect!
I thought I wouldn't like her because she reminds me slightly of Bernadette banner, but I was pleasantly surprised! She seems really sweet
Wonderful fashion sewing. This was my Maid of Honor dress in 1953 for cousin's wedding. It was yellow. Bought from bridal shop and wore it later for high school Homecoming. I wasn't queen. Mine was very itchy. You make a perfect Homecoming Queen.

When you showed the dress on your body I instantly thought of the girls on the movie Cry Baby! Absolutely gorgeous!
This is adorable Angela, to make a beautiful gown and it looks GREAT ON YOU....God’s given you a talent ‼️. You’re AWESOME ‼️
I AM LITERALLY SO EXCITED FOR THIS SERIES. I LOVE Barbie, and the vintage style silkstone's are my absolute favorite.
This dress is the epitome of patience. Well done
Would love to see you make the dress from Back to the Future 1 (Marty's mom's dress from the dance). I love watching your videos 😊
Yaasss! I've been wanting to re-create some of Barbie's outfits for my own wardrobe, so cute!!!!
I love this dress! It looks exactly like my late grandmother's prom dress! Wonderful watch
Goodness woman, that is your color and the dress came out so well. Absolutely beautiful. ❤️
You're makeup looks so pretty! And the dress came out lovely c':
Someone mentioned you doing a audrey hepburn dress, I love the styling of that era and she looked very elegant, you should try something like that because all these styles look good on you
You look amazing in this dress!!
Gorgeous!! You look like the living barbie doll in this dress. The color is beautiful
Hiiiiiii angela loved the real life size barbie dress. Please make more life size barbie clothes. I am a fan of your work.
Simply beautiful! I still love Barbies after all these years and enjoyed seeing the dress come to life ♥️
Great minds think alike. I just got into sewing my own cosplays and I'm planning on recreating a holiday barbie gown!
I think you made many childhood fantasies happen with this one, Angela. It is beautiful and my favorite of the whole series so far. Thank you!
This is absolutely stunning, breathtaking... I would definitely wear it to prom. Please do more of this kind of videos ❣
That's great! I'd love to see you recreate the classic 50s build in corselette. Also, I'd love to see you recreate Balenciaga or Dior.
You did a good job! I would like to see you make a dress that you have always had in mind for yourself and has your own style and is vintage inspired. Mixing old and new. The perfect length for your height, color, accentuates your face and figure, etc. Your own perfect creation! 💃
So very pretty!!! It reminds me of the prom dresses I’ve seen in my mother’s yearbooks from back in the 50’s.
It turned out beautiful. I used to make Barbie clothes and this just took me back to those days. I wish I still had my Barbie patterns.
I love the idea of replicating the Barbie dresses! The final look of this is perfect; even down to the hair! Spot on!
aww!! Your eye shadow matches
With every video I’m so excited for you you get to wear such amazing outfits. But this one girl... as a seamstress and a Barbie collector you are living my dream 😍
More of these please! It would delightful to see life size, haha, Barbie dresses for any time. Excited to see more!
By all the gods of she who is plastic and 11.5 inches tall! I adore the concept, I adore the dress, and I can't wait for more!!! My daughter turns 5 in October and I have ten meters of pink organza so I'm off to find a Barbie dress to make her!
Wow! It came out very impressively! The way it looked in the sewing room left much to the imagination but once it was one piece it looks phenomenal 🥰

That is just wonderful. 😊 I have actually looked at some barbie sewing patterns and wondered if it was possible to make it a full outfit
Wow!! You're amazing to tackle the sea of tulle! What a beautiful dress! The color is perfect!!
I absolutely love this dress! All the effort paid off, it's just lovely.
Such memories: I have actually watched this more than once because I love the way you adapt things as required. All sewers have to do this. Wow! I'm getting 'Peggy Sue got Married' vibes so hard right now!
This is such an incredible set of skills. I couldn’t even begin to come up with any ideas of how to do something 1/8th as intricate!
I love how many layers go into making the finished product. Really shows!!
I admire all the hard work you dedicate to your projects.
Well done! Spot on up size of the doll's dress. I am looking forward to many more of the Barbie dresses.
Angela, this is so beautiful. I really enjoyed your video. Just subscribed. Can’t wait to see more!
I just love this gorgeous Barbie. the dresses and the color also, love it
I think you have done a fantastic job on this dress and I really love the way it looks. Thank you so much.
