From Episode 7.16 'Something about Dr. Mary'. In this somewhat controversial scene, Frasier struggles with confronting a temporary producer about a work issue for fear of being thought a racist. Martin cracks me up!

this episode has one of the funniest jokes ever. Niles says his first roommate at Yale was black, and Fraiser says "Huntington Treadwell the Third!?"

This will all go down as my favorite EPISODE...I hear!! 😂😂👍🙌🏾😘😁! He knew he had to tread lightly around THAT sista for real... she was NO JOKE. 😆😁

She was always sweet so there was never any need to "tread lightly". I don't know what episode you watched, but "no joke" was not how I would describe her. She was friendly & caring & Frasier made her look like a stereotype of a loud, confrontational, angry black woman.

This episode made me FURIOUS. They made Mary & the other black woman have such ghetto dialogue "You is trippin'!" & when Frasier is showing what her reaction would be he plays her as the stereotypical "angry black woman" despite the fact that she's NEVER behaved that way & he would have no reason to believe she would. She was always sweet. This was so offensive.

Then you completely missed the point of the episode and this scene. It’s satirising Frasier’s views and showing how wrong he is (and, by extension, others who have similar real-life views). Niles and Martin are visibly uncomfortable when Frasier goes into his ‘massa’ rant. By the end of the episode Frasier learns his lesson and that he was actually being racist by treating her differently - even though he thought it was with good intentions.
Yes, Mary never acted like this AND THAT’S THE POINT! It’s exposing Frasier’s very wrong views which are born out of ignorance. Niles directly says that Mary wouldn’t respond like that and he never even met her. Frasier THINKS he’s being sensitive by not voicing his criticisms of her, but he’s actually being racist and not treating her equally because of her race (something that Martin and Niles point out - they both think he should have a straightforward conversation with her as equals)
Frasier in this episode is use to satirise people like him and their views. Frasier in this episode is the sort of person who think he’s ‘woke’ but actually ends up being discriminatory in a different way which he didn’t intend. The entire point of the episode is a character arc where he learns to treat someone based on their character, rather than the colour of their skin

It's supposed to say more about how stupid Frasier is... but yeah, it's not aged well :-/

Agreed. No black woman has ever said anything like that before with a sassy attitude.
