Ok, so I am interested in a similar treatment for my 2001 singlecut. Do you offer this as a service, or is this simply for the sake of videos? Think I should go to the PTC instead?
Phil the intonation fine tune was skipped in the video - did you find that new bridge really helped or not ?
Phillip McKnight I actually watched his first, I was subs robe to him and not you, however, after watching this, I'm a fan and just had to subs robe to you as well! I May be sending you a guitar someday, is like to do videos like you and Tyler did. Awesome idea!
Does all this makes it better or just makes it different?
I saw his first as well. I messaged you on FB Phillip. Got 1 heck of a challenge for ya.
Baby's back, better than before, better than ever. Thank you, Phil!
OMG I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS TYLER🎸🎸🎸🎸
nice
I'm pretty sure Tyler had to turn away as Phil took it apart. Great video Phil! Going to watch Tyler's video right after this.
Hey Tyler I just watched your vid
Music is Win this was an awesome couple of videos!
The difference in the pickups is astounding....Phillip, you took a good guitar and made it great!
I am a sucker for a green guitar. I think they look so cool.
I honestly liked more original pickups, but great upgrade! I loved the tuner machines.
This guitar turned out quite nicely. I think I like seeing you upgrade used guitars more than the new ones.
Great video. If I may, you will get better results from that swirl remover if you don't use microfibre.
Thicker stronger shafts are always better! Great vid!
I like the PRS lampshade knobs too. I almost put them on my Tokai LC but just couldn't find the right color. But, definitely love the shape
for such an expensive guitar, it really has basic features that need upgrading, reminds me of fender!!
We need one of steve from boston
I just got a Paul's guitar for 500!!!! Pawn shops baby! Not a scratch.
My OCD is screaming to know what you did to get that glue off.
The Hipshot Grand Bridge would have been awesome too, that's what I changed mine out to.
Awesome video! Just watched and had to say!
hey philip ! how do you adjust your pickup height ? are they any guidelines to set my own pickup height ?
can you please do your magic on my guitar
Sorry I don't know why you don't got like
why tf does this only have 8 likes these people sleepin
noob
Thats what she said
@@nick3718 This comment was made before his channel blew up
This is a more ambitious crossover than marvels infinity war
LOL YEAH
Plus it's a win win situation because nobody died
Oh hell yeah
more ambitious than allen iverson's crossover
I’m laughing in my imagination of what you could’ve said. “Ok how do we improve, we’ll first we’re gonna route the body for a Floyd, then we’re gonna route for some emgs, and we think trapezoid inlays would look really bitchin, so we’re gonna route the next for those, and since we think black guitars look better we’re gonna rattle can the body as well...”
Haha when I was about 14 this guy I knew was a rich kid and this was his first guitar and he BUTCHERED it with doing exactly what you just said. When I asked him why in the hell would you do that his response was "chill man it was an experiment it's not like I cant buy a new one." While I sat there treasuring my epiphone sg 400pro lol.
@@parkerb9010 Based king.
The trapezoid inlays🤣
That would be awesome!
That was awesome!!!!
Robert Baker now _you_ send one of _your_ guitars!
Yeah, send one of yours.
Robert see if Phil will do this for you!
What are you doing fondling this guitar...it is sacred to the asses, how have you come to hold this example of an eclectic eccentric artifact of space/time to be beholden by only those chosen few who have paid the fee upon the man who walks before UA-cam and hearkens the heralds like an angel who sings:
"BUY MY LESSONS and SEE me GOOF....Upload per day will get you TOO!!"
Send the charvel!!! The crackle
12:20 "Make sure your tip is always clean." Excellent advice for many areas in life.
🤣🤣
4:10 don't forget about a thicker stronger shaft
@@butt_nugget_223 that’s wha my ex said when talking about her new bf :(
I so wish the first thing he had said was, "well this finish and green color have to go- I am thinking a mcdonalds yellow & red would be better."
Great idea and video 🤘
Karl Golden Oh! Hi Karl!
It's almost as if you know your shit!!! Almost!
EytschPi42 Almost... because? Oh, I know... because penis! Right?
I haven't watched the entire vid yet, but I suspect Phil forgot to lick the guitar to claim it as his own?
If there's less friction, there will be less wear. That's just the way things work. Functionally, it's not just easy bends. It's the ability to do smooth vibrato and slow bends. Rough things are unpredictable.
EytschPi42 thats what she said
+Nonya Bizness Oil provides a boundary layer between the two parts. There is no such layer between the frets and the strings. The higher Mohs rating wins in that case. But, without polishing the tarnish off, you actually end up with an abrasive between the strings and the frets. And harder to bend is still harder to bend.
That's a sexy PRS
almost all PRS are sexy! ... best guitars out there
I love the way it looks like a more modern Les Paul
Yea music is win \m/!
“If you have great tone, will you have a long life?” PHILosophy
My very first guitar is currently also undergoing "sharpening". This video makes me even more excited for getting it back :D
Which guitar
PheonixSlayer24 it's an LTD single cut in black/gold. I got some Fishman modern pickups and locking tuners for it. That thing rips now. Sounds like a mountain breaking apart.
I just whatched Tyler's video
Thanks for reply
just finished watching the whole video. Great video!
"With medium force"
*Camera starts to shake*
18:01 “Look at the difference”. “I mean, not aesthetically”
In my opinion, these are the best videos that you do.
Yeah get rid of those damn tuners lol
Edit: I feel like every guitar should come with locking tuners nowadays!
I always find cleaning guitars so oddly satisfying, it looks so shiny and nice, especially the material on the new hardware, shiny nice brass. I just love looking at it.
*If you're worried about "chewing up" your screws with a screwdriver, put a wide rubber band across it before you push the screwdriver in and it will let you turn it 100% without ever actually touching the finish. Oh, and it's a great trick for stripped screws, too.*
I have the dual design straplocks on all my guitars... love them!
Love your vids the editing is kind of basic but you give good explanations and make interesting vids love the new baby
You see how these PRS are the perfect guitars when improving it involves replacing the pickup rings and knobs.
Even in PRS's overseas line, I've never played a PRS that I hated. They've all been badass.
Great video! What would you recommend upgrading on a new PRS SE Mark Holcomb? I just ordered the Pure Tone jack and told them where I saw their product and why I was buying their product. It's a shame they did not sponsor this Axe Sharpening. but they had very nice things to say about you. maybe in the future they will sponsor another build. I know it's only a $6 dollar part but you gave them $200 worth of advertising maybe more. I am not a marketing guy. LOL Please let me know your thoughts on these Items from PRS for my guitar. Nut change 4204 wide-fat/thin, Pickup surrounds one set black and one set ivory (just to see) ACC-4261-b and 4261-Ivory. and the bell knobs in black 4246. I think that's all she needs except I am going to use Hipshot locking tuners on it.
Keep up the great work. I love your channel!
Pure Tone did sponsor the video. 5:00
Shout out to Larson's Guitar Super System. Not the best name, but worth every penny twice over.
At the end of the video it said BRIDGE PICKUP, but if you look at the toggle switch, it’s clearly on the NECK pickup!
I keep a screwdriver with electrical tape over the tip for adjusting bridge screws.
Nice .... I would suggest Autosol for the final fret polish. Yes you'll have to mask but nothing beats it. Try it and thank Ben from Crimson Guitars for that one!
On top of being a video full of tips it ends on a segment of the Beatles “Day tripper
I hate that color of anything.
26:45 sounds like if Johnny Marr and The Beatles (circa 1966-67) got together and made a song
There is a fucking 'L' in Solder. For the love of all things metal, pronounce it. Great vid tho
Wtf dude, I didn't know you were doing more of these?. I wanted to enter for a chance to send one of my guitars to u 😢
John Dick lol Its not really a wtf situation, to Phil's credit he's mentioned that the series is coming back many times.
Those locking Klusons are incredible! I have them on my Gibson SG and they are smooth as butter
7:27 The first time i've ever heard an American say "Alumin-ee-um" the way we say it in the UK haha
Or "Klusawn" must be an east coast thing lol!
I say aluminum lol
Phillip love your channel and especially this series.....You remind me of someone .....Mr Rodgers.....now of the guitar world. Keep on brother!!!
I really enjoyed this. I like those tecchy videos of yours that give great advice on what and what not to do when servicing your guitar.
Even though it's not my guitar, it's still exciting to see a guitar getting "the treatment" like this.
Hey 'Day tripper' deja vue. the Guitologist was playing the same riff a couple of days ago. Great minds think alike!
What is the music in the background around 11:00? I work at a movie theater and that song plays in the lobby all the damn time and I can never figure out what it is or where it's coming from. It's haunting me 😂
You do great work sir. I wish I cloud do the same to my PRS SE Zach Meyers. At least the new pickups with coil tapping.
YES PHIL!
I wish he would mod my two guitars! Man I wish my guitar knowledge was that good.
Is there by any chance I can give a Double Like? Phil you did a magnificent job! Cheers
Great and very informative video!
Than you Phil.
hey Phil, can you sharpen my shitty starcaster lol
Daaaayyyyymmmmnnnn fixing 'er up cost more than a brand new SE! lol So awesome!! You really doubled down on your credibility with this kind of endorsement Phil! Well done!
you should get some more played to bits guitars in and fix them makes me wish i could do it to my guitar
the PU covers dont match the binding, looks bad
the original ones didn’t match it in the first place
Question: Phil links to the Stereo version of the Pure Tone output jack. Is that what he is using for this guitar or is he using the mono version?
If I love a guitar I’d never let it be modded, could make a fav go bad! It’s a dangerous game playing around with a fav. Brave!
Love this video! Tasteful choices all around. Appreciate your attention to the smallest detail. Cheers man!
I'm so happy to see my Fender Amp in the background. Even professionals love it!
Great makeover for this guitar, Phillip!! Ever used Nicsand? It’s great for high gloss polishing-it’s a 10,000 grit lotion. Also, Music Nomad has a great fret polishing kit called Frine-it’s affordable & works great too. I’ve used the Frine polish to remove swirl marks from pickguards & guitar finishes.
I’ve used the Kluson KEDPL 380-1 locking tuners on one of my Gibson Les Pauls. They’re great & fit the footprint of the original Gibson Deluxe tuners perfectly.
I will check that out. Thank you for the suggestion
Thanks for pointing out Nicsand, Bikjakk. There's now intent to look into that and the Stew Mac product too. Personally, I have used auto polish Zymol with good results. The search continues!! :-) Be well!!
Guitar How To's It should be used with water if using a power buffer. Otherwise, use a damn microfiber or ultra suede/micro suede cloth. 👍🏻
very nice i quite enjoyed this. those parts are crazy expensive :0
Where did that EBMM in the background come from? Did I miss a new guitar? lol
kurt singer Looks like a Sterling James Valentine? (Maybe...)
how are you going to squeeze the pickup cable through that cavity if you have already soldered it to the pot on your desk?
I have a 1997 american fender California series fat telecaster that needs sharpening.
Do you have anything against Jim Dunlop guitar care products? Just curious, great video.
I like there polish and Fretboard conditioner
Seconded on their polish. Idk if I've ever used the fretboard conditioner. I used to use this stuff that came in a see thru red bottle. And I can't remember the name to save my life. Getting older SUCKS!!!
I just noticed after 10 years, my Ovation TX has Dunlop strap lock. Blew my mind.
Are you sure that was glue Phil?
Thank you for the video. I think the upgrades were well planned, and would be exactly what I would want. I really like the locking tuners on my guitars that have them. I like being able to fine tune the intonation, and the coil splits add some nice versatility, so you could do almost any type of gig with this one guitar. If I ever need to solder something, I'll try to remember this video, as well.
Awesome ! I built my own guitar with my dad. It's an HSH strat that has 3 splittable humbucker, and I had difficulties with wiring because splitting one or two is ok, but having a schema that splits 3, it's a whole other story :D
Also, I installed old style humbucker (Seymour Slash signature, same wire style as the one demonstrated on soldering tip) on my epi les paul (they sound great, go for it if you hesitate), and I have to admit I did the mess you talk about with the soldering. It didn't want to stick, and I ended up adding more and more solder. In the end, I succeeded, but definitely wish I could watch this video before. Anyway, you won a new subscriber, I love your work :)
Hi Phil
Fun video.
Are you saying "ten" the wire?
It's "tin".
Angus Black he’s saying tin but he has a bit of an accent or something
Skylar Chapman; That's why I asked and didn't just make a statement. :)
I was wondering too
It's also SOLDER not soder ;) silly rebel colony. You may learn English some day.
Actually it used to be pronounced "sodder" in the UK too, it's the Brits who are saying it wrong nowadays ;)
ha, I was asking myself how I missed this until I looked at the date... Great idea btw. Now going to watch Music is Wind to see what he says about sending it off... Love it when you guys work together on stuff... Lots of fun for us out here. Almost forgot,,, cool upgrades.. Great job.
Hey Phil! Is there any difference between coil tap and split?
Sagi Dash Yes there's quite the difference. Although my name isn't Phil I hope you don't mind my answering. So basically coil split, like it is mentioned in the video splits a humbucker into two separate coils. Essentially creating a single coil. Coil tap is quite a bit different. In coil tap it will bypass a few of the wraps around the pickup. Therefore lowering the resistance, so more output. Coil split=single coil. Coil tap=louder humbucker.
I love these episodes Phil! You do a great job. You haven’t sharpened a lefty axe yet, would you be interested in sharpening a lefty PRS SE?
Really loved this video. It can often be a fear to upgrade the old girls we own, especially out of the fear of change. But I think when you make wise and informed decisions when doing so, you don't lose the feeling of the old girl, you improve it. It brings new life into the relationship.
Wonderful job Phil, looks and sounds amazing!
What are you doing fondling this guitar...it is sacred to the asses, how have you come to hold this example of an eclectic eccentric artifact of space/time to be beholden by only those chosen few who have paid the fee upon the man who walks before UA-cam and hearkens the heralds like an angel who sings:

Hi im looking for a good beginner and high quality electric gitar for 1000-1200 dollars. What would you recomend? Want without a tremolo and looking for more of a blues sound. Looking at fenders made in mexico or japan or usa Also the yamaha revstar RS820CR and Yamaha RSP20CR and the ibanez prestige and premium lines
but all the choices make it so hard to find the best one for the money and the best quality one.
It's a really pretty guitar man! GL Tyler!Hope you enjoy playing the all new Baby!
You’re the man, Phil. Thanks for this. I needed some tips on soldering and you answered a lot of questions.
Damn that’s a lot of changes that affect the tone🤭🤭🤭
infoowetrust, basically all he has left from the original is the wood. No tone there. There's nothing to see. Except the green finish makes it sound a little bit greener.
Disagree. Bet it still sounds just like Tyler.
I’m a firm believer in don’t try and improve a tone you love. Having the split coils on a guitar like that is pointless. Just pickup a strat if you want that single coil sound. It does that sound much better. I don’t do buckers in strats either for the same reason (well I just hate that muffled sound -single coils forever).
Great video, as usual. However, Dunlop strap locks are complete garbage. They are not safe, to protect your expensive instrument from falling off the strap. Those tiny little ball-bearing cam locks will let go, releasing the strap from the guitar. It has happened to me, and there are horror stories, of broken guitar necks etc., all over the 'net. Schaller strap-locks are the best that money can buy.
Start with the color.
gassing hard . my tuub analog toan is bettr than yourz . my cover band is tribut eto AIC / judas priest / moutly creu . the best cover bant . analog only tuub les pauls .
PRS guitars often sound too brittle and bright to me. I guess thats why I preferred the original pickups in this guitar. They were more low end friendly.
Thank goodness the PRS SC245 is still in his possesion.
Great job! I have to get me one of those bridges for my SE Singlecut. This is going in the saved video file to watch again and help me later!
I actually preferred the original pickups it had. the newer ones just don't have as sweet and warm of a sound.
Shoot you should re-sharpen my axe! I love my Gibson Les Paul studio but man I don't enjoy it like I should
After this the guitar was sent to me. I then proceeded to bang it into a dresser and then I passed it to my sister to send it cart wheeling down a long flight of stairs like she did to my Squier when I was a kid. 😁👍
This is great content!
Awesome, I know Tyler will be happy to have a new and improved Baby back!
