This video is very old. Have you advanced in noise reduction techniques? After all the getting noise to a minimum with less pedals, shorter high end chords etc, how do you process the noise out these days and what plug in are you using? Thanks.
I'm still using that same plugin, it sounds a lot better when you don't have to use aggressive settings. Like you said, I reduced noise to a minimum on my setup at the source, so this plugin is just the last little cherry on top to remove what little noise is left.
Thank you for this! I wonder how one can remove the piano tapping sounds from digital piano though... because they are "on top" of the sound. Any tips and tricks for this? I appreciate it!
I have never done this, but you would need to take a look at some more advanced audio restoration plugins like Izotope RX8. There might be some audio repair tools in there to isolate certain parts of the sound, and maybe you could repair it, or at least tone it down!
Apparently someone had the same problem here in the comment section and Waves told him it had something to do with Sample Rate, you should check for that. My sample rate is 44.1khz, I don't know if it doesn't work good with other sample rates. You have to try!
+Craig Allen Unfortunately, there were no black friday/cyber monday special for this plugin this year. There are always big discounts (80%) on selected plugins each year... it would have been cool if you could get a good deal on this one !
+Dan Anime (“El Argentino Americano”) Very weird ! I cannot help you unfortunately, this has never happened to me... Maybe you can try to contact Waves support and tell them about your problem !
Monochrome Seasons I did contact them, they could give me a clear answer, they said it may have something to do with the sample rates... Idk, I couldn't find help. This problem seems to one happen in these type of Compression plugins that get rid of sounds/Artifacts from wave
T'es québecois toi ?! Non ? Bonne vidéo. Je regarde tous les tutos sur la noise reduction. Waves en a une tonne de plugins mais, ils ont tous une légère différence. On s'en fout !;-) Salut Dangenoir www.insanasomnia.com
Hey Monochrome Seasons! This was a really helpful video, and I found it almost two years after you posted. But I just wanted to say: first, the Z-Noise is now $50 (on sale) at their website. Next, Z-Noise does not plug into Audacity. I know Audacity is a “low end” DAW, well, it's free, but I use it for all my sound editing. I bought Reaper a couple of years ago, but never took the time to really get comfortable with it and wound up being frustrated and went back to Audacity where I can do most everything I want without having to figure it out forever. Anyway, I did a test of Audacity's Noise Reduction effect and I posted it here: soundcloud.com/user-342567872/noise-reduction-in-audacity It's 8 seconds of raw ambient guitar using Big Sky Bloom, followed by that same piece after Audacity Noise Reduction. Is it perfect? I don't know, you guys out there judge. But it conforms to my philosophy of “Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good”; (thank you Voltaire).
I agree with what you said Bill and I think your noise reduction track is perfect like that. You are right to point that it was 2 years ago, because my point of view has changed a lot on this. Before, I wanted to remove every bit of noise, every artefact possible. But it just resulted in some tone loss. Now, I remove just what is necessary without compromising the tone. If there's some noise left, I'm ok with that. Tone is my #1 priority. The best is to eliminate the noise at the source as much as possible so you don't have to do what I have done with the distorted guitar. This is almost pure garbage now that I listen to it again haha! If I had no choice to work with that track for a client, of course this plugin would save me, but if I had the choice to record it again and find a way to reduce the noise at the source, I would certainly do that instead! Cheers!
Thanks, Antoine. I started ambient guitar style playing just 8 months ago, (after 40 years of guitar playing for anyone reading that doesn't know me.) In these 8 months I find that there's a bit of the dog chasing the tail. I bought a Big Sky as my first pedal last December, and immediately returned it because it was too complicated. I just re-purchased it last week and I am now in love with it. Two years ago you were searching for “noise-less”; now you crave accurate tone and are willing to suffer some noise. In jazz, I concentrated on the “right” notes and scales and arpeggios and chords; today I set up my Big Sky and Strymon Dig, created a fantastic wash of sound, and then composed a spontaneous piece based upon sound, not notes. Frankly, the notes were irrelevant; they were just all in the key of C. It blows my world apart, and I love it. So each day I learn a little more, and feel my way through this new world of music making. Even my listening has changed; I used to listen for rhythm, melody, harmony and the scale sound on top of the chord. Now I listen for layers, texture, tone, emotional reaction, and quiet too. I'll remove the noise for a while, and who knows, after my ears have evolved more, maybe I'll embrace noise as a trade-off for something else. See you, Bill in Colorado
One of the most informative I've ever come across..thanks so much
After 2 years of fighting noise I have finally won ty
Excelent man!

Hi Antoine, Heads up for the tutorial. How do I increase volume between speakers and some are too low to be heard?
Thanks man! Super helpful!
+Jared Bruning You're welcome :) Thanks for your question !
Thanks Antoine - love your insights and tutorials. Do you master your own music and if so, could you do a tutorial as to how you go about this?
I do a quick pseudo mastering when I release on UA-cam, but I don't do it myself for my official albums.
Great tutorial!
+Nathan Shafer (EchoEchoGuy) Thanks man !

@@AntoineMichaudGuitar Thank you so much!
why does my guitar section lag in time when i used z noise

+Monochrome Seasons thanks, yeah I'll probably pick it up sometime next year when I'm ready to start mixing my next album.
I have a question, why does my sounds become off beat and delayed when I apply Z-noise?

This plugin seems to affect the tone of my guitar. I have extreme noise at home, though.
