just like biggie smalls once said, "you're nobody till somebody kills you". its a perfect summary of what happens when you die. when you're alive nobody talks about you but when you're gone everyone all of a sudden misses you
There’s definitely a line between “legend” and “an artist with great potential”. I love Pop Smoke, like, way too much, but he only had 2 albums released while he was actually alive, the 2 posthumous albums are great too ngl. I wouldn’t say he’s a legend, but he had insane potential. Still one of my favorite rappers of all time
yeah it almost makes it more sad, like... juice wrld is my favorite rapper but he made an insane amount of music and i'm satisfied with his stuff, but i love pop smoke and it hurts to see he has such a small amount of songs out, he just didn't record as much as juice and was newer in the game. 🙏
idk bout you but he could be considered a legend here in ny solely for what he did for the city. He really made this sht global and mfs will never forget that
@@moneymakinmitch8130 you right that’s true. Being a legend isn’t based on how much you did but rather the effect of what you did. I honestly really hope we get someone else like him in the future
I didn’t really listen to his music before he died because I wasn’t that in tune with NY drill even though being from there myself I started listening to him maybe a year or almost a year after he died because at that time I started listening to ny drill and I became a fan of his shit and till this day the shit saddens me that he’s gone and I might like his shit too much aswell because I be in the middle of listening to his music and I sit there like damn he really gone we not getting no more new music type shit 😂
I do feel like he can be considered a legend because he put NY drill on the map people were doing their thing before him of course but his friends and even his enemies were able to get put on by him he’s one of maybe two rappers I felt truly saddened by their death and the other would be nick blixky what really hit me was right after he announced his album was finna be released he got killed so he wouldn’t even know how well it would’ve done and nothing would be filmed for it
Chester Bennington from Linkin Park is a legend in my opinion, that was a celebrity death that hurt a bit during the 2016 celebrity death streak. The last Linkin Park album hurts a bit when you listen to him sing a message he couldn’t hear himself
Linkin Park is a staple of 2000’s rock. You can’t have any 2000’s rock playlist without at least a few Linkin Park songs . They were legend even before Chester died like way before that happened. Same with Nirvana they were iconic during their run way before Kurt Cobain died.
exactly. i loved his music when i was a kid. i remember when i was young hearing that he killed himself on the radio. i cried for a week. R.I.P Chester we miss you.
I feel like a lot of what makes an artist a legend isn’t just what they did music wise but as a person as well. Like Muhammad Ali and Tupac. They did so much outside of boxing/music for their community. And that’s why they’re legends
But still if you're actually really good in your field, you can still be considered a legend or a GOAT (although this term is actually more subjective than the former). Much like Mike Tyson or Pop Smoke. It's fine to consider Mike Tyson a legend or a GOAT, because really before his downfall with Don King and Cus' death, he was the hardest puncher. Pretty sure by a landslide, of course I acknowledge he definitely had some hard fights like Holyfield, Smith and Lennox Lewis. I don't remember or know what Pop Smoke did outside of his music. Only footage I've seem of him was in his music videos, a podcast with a lady and him walking, thats it. But by many, he's still considered a legend. Of course, not as much as Tupac or other great artists from 90s-2000s like 50cent, Nas, etc. So my conclusion is, don't call someone a GOAT if they're music isn't all that. You can call them a legend though, for their influential range, their creativity, etc. or other factors which would mostly be outside of the music scene. But what do I know? I'm just a guy who likes lobsters.
Tupac was a wannabe gangbanger. Started hanging with suge who also wasn’t a member and started talking bout he MOB. Tried banging on a real crip and go knocced
@@CN86443 tbh you're right. I didn't even know him before he died, heard some of his music but didn't know him. I'm talking bullshit fr edit: like another guy said, he's an artist with great potential but not a legend. I stand corrected, i guess I ignored that he gained fame after he died. I was too swayed by the fact that he made good music and I was biased.
I have to say you can feel the emotion in a lot of his songs, for me, the last segment of Bohemian Rhapsody hit me hard and I'm actually not that sure why. Maybe it's because a lot of the things I think or worry about really dont matter. So I guess its because nothing that I'm worrying about really matters after all.
When it comes to X and Juice, I recently saw a clip of Trippy Redd saying that when it comes to him and his generation of music he's the only one left, since he blew up the same time as X and Juice and that actually made me feel sad for him
@@NorthTexasNewYorknah there’s like 200 of them left. X started popping in 2014, Juice blew up in 2018. That’s a a whole presidential election worth of rappers.
When Mac Miller died, I had never heard anything by him before, and my college roommate said “Let’s have a Mac Tribute Concert” so we just listened to a bunch of Mac Miller for the day and I was hooked instantly. Man is my favorite artist of all time now and it hurts so much that I can never see this man perform live or hear anything legit new from him. RIP MAC 💜
@rD mooD2 full heartedly agree, macs evolution as an artist showed so much fucking potential. Tragic that we didn’t get to see more projects, especially since the release of circles, which is one of the best albums for me personally, which showed a lot of musical talent
Im in the same boat with MF DOOM. Someone I was talking to introduced me to his music 6 months after his death and now im sad that I can never go see him live
I listened to Mac religiously at the time of his passing and for once in my life, the death of somebody I didn't know actually made me genuinely sad. Dude was a legend even if it's not for his music, he has so many people in the industry singing his praises for how dope he was as an artist, producer and most importantly as a human being
Didn’t expect David Bowie to be in this video. He truly was a great artist and I remember listening to his songs with my mom when I was 10. Good memories
@@bandonkadonk sure, but keep in mind every other artist he quoted was in the rap game, i wasn't expecting anyone outside this genre, even so judging by the thumbnail.
The term “legend” has definitely been thrown around a lot to the point where the meaning isn’t as impactful but I think something that’s really important to consider is the impact the artist made. You don’t need to like someone’s like peep’s music but the impact he made was undeniable. Peep, X, Juice, Uzi, etc. basically formed the new gen. In fact Juice WRLD even admitted that peep was one of his biggest inspirations.
@@hernandez4856 Not really, the video was more formulated around personal opinions, which is fine, but it’s also important to look at things objectively and the impact they had on the industry.
All the people you mentioned only inspired very similar artists in recent years. It's not like they had this massive widespread global influence even outside of their subgenre. And I'm not saying they weren't good, or they weren't influential. Just seems like people constantly overstate their impact on music
Mac Miller's music has definitely resonated with me on a pretty deep level. Though not necessarily listening to his music before his passing, so I don't have much of an emotional connection to him as a person, I was able to really connect with how he feels on LPs like Circles and Swimming. I don't know if he's a legend or anything, but he's definitely an artist that has defined a low era in my life.
In all honesty, I wasn't a Mac fan at all until after his untimely death. I heard his early frat boy stuff and thought he was garbage so I never listened to him again. So it came as a shock to me how much the music, especially hip hop, world was mourning him. Then when Circles dropped, I was astounded by how much his sound had evolved. I was in a dark place at the time and this somber album from a rapper I used to think was trash brought me peace and serenity. Then I went backwards on his discography with Swimming, Faces, etc and I'm saddened that I was so quick to write him off as "another frat boy rapper" and now I have Circles on repeat. Even though I only became a fan after his passing, his album run will certify his legend status in the years to come
I prefer him over nas and cole fr imo anybody can make a illmatic and off season nowadays but Mac’s discography from 2012-18 is untouchable and truly one of a kind.. it was a privilege watching him grow from party raps to straight artistry, also swimming is NOT his best project for straight bars and raps WMWTSO,Faces,GOOD AM,his Delusional Thomas mixtape/any SoundCloud only released songs will show you dude could truly spit if he wanted to.. dude has so much it’s insane I have 9 HOURS worth of leaks/SoundCloud songs on my phone He was an amazing producer too check out his collab mixtape with Vince Staples called “Stolen Youth” his producers alias is named “Larry Fisherman”, he had other music personas as well like “Larry Lovestein” for his jazz persona, “Delusional Thomas” is his evil demon slim shady type persona , and “Larry Dollaz” is his trap persona.. Malcolm is a legend as an artist and a human being, y’all just had to be there to truly witness his greatness
@@mrrevan813 daaaaaaaaamn u missed out on the Mac Miller era that’s sad af to hear. Mac has got me thru so many problems. To me he’s a legend. But to other ppl, naw.
I think the title of “Legend” should be reserved to those who left a mark in their respective genre, and the mark in turn influence multiple new artist. People who pass away recently are just too new and we don’t know of the aftermath of their death for a while.
I agree that "legend" should be used only for people who leave mark, but I also think that although he wasn't around long, Juice definitely still made that mark.
so MJ, X, n 2Pac should be high up? Cuz 2Pac influenced a lot of ppl in the 90's and early 00's. X influenced a lot of teens now in the 10's and Mj influenced ppl ever since he came ou.
As a juice Wrld fan he has a point, everytime some kid got heartbroken by his crush, they'll start posting "all girls are the same" and yes I find that annoying but some of juice's music it's actually fire and I don't want people to see juice wrld fans to be depressed people or sum but me personally I love juice wrld and r.i.p to juice and everyone else.
I know this is somewhat off-topic, but the point you make about artists’ deaths at the beginning of the video reminded me of this. I still remember the day Chester Bennington (Linkin Park lead vocalist for those unaware) died by suic*de. It was the first time a celebrity death really hit me. It didn’t feel real at the time. I didn’t even know this guy, yet I was devastated when I heard the news. He was one of the most influential vocalists of the 21st century, not just in heavy metal, but in all of music in general. His band left an impact on culture that few people are able to. I don’t like everything he made, and his death didn’t change that, but now I look back on even the less great stuff more fondly. I’ll never forget the impact his work had on my teen years. Even after nearly 5 years, the world still misses him. Rest In Power.
I cried when David Bowie died, just cuz that dude was such a big name throughout his whole career and his death and final album felt surreal. He put out his last album right before he died which reminded me a lot of J Dilla’s final album and passing. I don’t even care about most celebs/artists but something about a musical legend leaving this world kinda hits hard, especially when it happens to an artist you listen to and appreciate. Edit: Holy shit I didn’t even watch the whole vid when I commented this das crazy that he brought Bowie up
I think that an artist's music becomes legendary when it ages well. Everybody including myself would recognize a 2Pac song, I can't say the same for these guys nowadays.
The difference between legends like Tupac and recently dead artists is the fact that Tupac's music had time to age. We still have no clue if these are gonna age well, and I don't really think it's a good metric on making someone legendary. It should honestly be based on the impact their music had on your life, because at the end of the day, it's all opinion 🙏
Yes Biggie, 2Pac Nas and Ice cube are undeniable as they basically built the industry. Not to say others wouldn't have done the same if they hadn't come first but I think to be considered a "legend" you have to change the game in a way that effects the genre for years to come
"I can't say the same for these guys nowadays" yeah cause you haven't given it the fuckin chance, it hasn't aged yet so you don't know if it'll survive. Also recognition doesn't mean it's good, we all know Soulja boys hits and could recognize them but I'd never claim that shits good or that Soulja boy is a legend 😂😂😂😂😂
I consider Nujabes a legend. His music was so damn relaxing & showed me a new side of hip-hop I never knew existed. He died in a car accident twelve years ago, but his music still goes hard. Luckily, all the rappers he collabed with are alive, I think, & I've heard some good tracks from them.
Hell yeah, I was looking for a comment about him I only recently got into him, think his stuff is amazing. His music is about the only kind of hip hop or rap I genuinely like a lot So sad he left
@Tyler Walker Another artist I like is Raujika. There's barely any info available on him, but his song "Grim" has a very unique beat that I didn't realize was hip-hop at first.
@@DABUNGINATOR what i can say after skimming through a few songs is that Raujika takes a more dirty, gritty path, which case reminds me most of Madlib. However nujabes is quite clean and filtered which is definitely Dilla's magnum opus. I'd go as far as saying Madlib and suba jun is are the only people who are on the level of Dillas.
Miki Matsubara is a good artist, though not many people know of her other than her song “Stay With Me”. Her final thoughts on her own career only fill me with sadness because yes she made music but she felt like she wasted her life making it instead of seeking more from it. May she Rest In Peace, and may all these artists Rest In Peace.
Dude, you mentioning other artists who're not rappers made me respect you. Thank you for doing so and I applaude you for not limiting yourself to hip-hop only. I love your sense of humour as well, it's my kind of humour. Also, when you talked about XXX, I instantly remembered the moment when I heard the news. Thankfully, at that time I was already into his music and I was interested in his POVs and knowledge about music as well. He was becoming a better person. And I remember I was in shock when he died and that I called a friend of mine who introduced me to him and who's also listening to hip-hop. I HAD to tell her. At only 20 years he was shot. Too young. RIP to all the deceased artists.
Anyone who disagrees is too young to know the impact MJ had made for black artists and music. And they obviously don't know how famous this man was and still is.
to me Chester from Linkin Park was a legend, and his death really broke me as someone who was struggling mentally back then. His songs got through many 00 kids' tough days, may he rest in peace
I got to say I was never really a linkin park fan but I can not lie I was put on music early and would listen as a kid but the lyrics were just so much different.
personally MF DOOM was the hardest for me to deal with as i really resonated with his music and his mad villian album specifically, truely one of the GOATS undoubtedly
ngl, I like rap music but for me I am very picky about it, I mean I like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, wu tang clan etc. But the majority of it just sounded like garbage to me. I found out about doom a few months ago AND OH MY GOD ITS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST RAP MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE, the absolute BARS in all his songs, his style. AND THOSE AWSOME INSTRUMENTALS, if you put on operation doomsday and rap snitches. I am going to be god dam break dancing to that stuff OH MY GOD ITS SO GOOD. It really sucks even to a newer fan of his like me that he passed, RIP :(
I personally consider juice a legend myself, I was going through a really hard time with my grandma dying and shortly after my parents divorcing when I found him. His music really connected with me on a spiritual level, and even if you didn’t feel the music, you couldn’t ignore the raw talent. Like fr tho… who in the world freestyles for one hour straight? Even though he couldn’t reach his full potential, he’s gotta be up there with the all time greats, because no one in the scene could even touch him at his peak. I’m talking world. Wide. Fame. And he is probably always gonna be one of the most talented artists we’ve ever scene when it really comes down to the skill he had. Just my prospective
Yea but it's tough to call todays lean rappers legends when there's music out there basically a million times better than it. In every possible aspect xD. I myself listen to todays rap and hiphop everyday, but i feel like they can't compare in any way to singers and rappers from the 20th century and early 2000's.
I'd definitely consider Juice a legend, He has a solid discography, even WOD and then there's his unreleased music, it jus really shows how talented and versatile he really was. I remember when I first heard him, there was jus something bout him that jus stuck, something bout him jus made him standout from the rest. Imo his prolly the most talented artist to have ever do it, in terms of technical ability, wouldve loved him and Kanye work together or Ye executive producer a couple of his albums to really help him reach his extremely high potential
I love Amy Winehouse. There's just no other artist that comes close to her music especially her iconic voice. I wonder what more she could bring with her talent if she was still alive. RIP
It feels weird that almost half a decade has passed since Chester Bennington’s passing, whilst I still feel dissatisfied with how the last Linkin Park album was… I hope at least some of the wounds have healed to the rest of the group.
Mike's Post Traumatic made it up for me. The last album was mostly meh at first for me, after his death, yea, reflection and shit, you start to kinda see between the lines. Years after, it goes a little back to that old "meh" feeling. I love chester and LP and all, but the last album, is more of a emotional feeling than rock or something. Mike's PT after the death of chester helped me accept that, the last album of LP really was just kinda meh, and that it isnt all that bad

You hit everything RIGHT on the spot with the X, Juice and Peep stuff. Personally for me, X was my “goat” and when he died it hit me REALLY hard man. Overtime, I kind of dwindled away from his music but it’s not cause I lost love for his music it’s just like you said, you cant really make new stuff if you are no longer here. Now for Juice, I definitely fw the guys music and his capability for freestyling (not all of the music was for me tho personally) his fanbase gotta be one of the most cringe tho IMO (referring to the people who have Juice WRLD songs as their entire personality in a sense and act fake “emo”) Peep is someone I really tried to listen too and like (white wine or benz truck prolly the only songs i like from him tbh) but most of his music is not good to me but that’s just my opinion so don’t get upset. Rest In Peace to all of these artists who were gone too soon. 🖤
I agree with what you said about juice wrlds fan base☠️. & I consider myself a huge juice wrld fan but I don't like all of his songs though not all of them hit for me. But his fam base makes me😭🤢
To me Jimi Hendrix will always be a legend. He only lived for 27 years and was able to become arguably the greatest guitar player ever. RIP Jimi Hendrix
Tons of people have given David Bowie credit, because he is a legend of music. Please do a search of his name, or look at his list of accomplishments, they speak for themselves.
The thing abt juice is that his fan base and discography are so saturated with his post death fans and songs that it takes away from how special he was while he was alive. As a Chicago native and long time fan of juice I would say that his raw talent and ability was special. I’ve been to hip hop concerts but juices hit different and I’ve been saying that since the day I went. Like x is to you juice is similar for some who knew his music well while he was alive.
Juice's legacy has been greatly effected by his younger audience, and not in a positive way. He was one of the most talented freestylers, and had respect from goats of rap, but when people think of him now who aren't necessary huge fans, they see a wall of middle school kids who are the bart simpson all girls are the same fans. It really hurts me that his legacy has come to this and there's nothing he can do about it. His unreleased hype songs are so fire and I hope that they can be shared with everyone one day.
Na the guys right i fuckn love juices songs but hes not a legend, his album were good, but his leaks were what topped him to the max for me cuz ive never heard someone make songs like that. And me since i was a kid a always hum and make chorus type shit that came to my mind and i would love it my whole life, and when i heard his songs it gave me that feeling, but with xxx his old songs are crazy good and listening at night gives it a creepy third eye opening type shit especially his beats and his song i spoke to the devil in miami"
W opinion cant say much about peep myself havent listened to much of it i mainly listen to juice and sometimes youngboy (i aint a troll or nothing tho)
he's a legend in the underground scene, no doubt about it. he had songs with smokepurpp, thouxanbanfauni, wiz whalifa and juicy j, germ, baby e, and a lot more, so he had plenty of potential.
For me Kurt Cobain changed music for me forever. Goes to show how technical skill is not a necessity for great music and it’s how it makes you feel. Kurt was a legend and changed music forever. Weirdly enough Kurt was pretty technical in using non harmonic tones. He uses them to resolve and build tension better than anyone imo.
A good benchmark for A legend in music is something like this, they should have at least 5 great songs and 15 really good songs. Kurt Konain does not even come close. He has ZERO great songs. I would say he had 3 good songs so yawn. I would actually say had he lived he would’ve been forgettable.
@@averydaymond1560 Respectfully I disagree, I honestly haven’t heard a song written by Kurt that I didn’t like, but that is my opinion. In my opinion bleach, nevermind and in utero don’t have any skips for me not the mention the b-sides but that my taste. Yours might be different.
Nirvana changed the music as we see it today. Definitely up there with legends or close to them imo. Kurt was a genius. He knew how to make perfect music with simple chords.
@@averydaymond1560 imo if someone changed the music as we see it or did something never seen before or gets talked about even decades after their death or maybe the thing you said above is a legend. You haven't dived much rock genre if you don't think Nirvana band is up there with top rock bands. 99% of the people in music community will agree with Nirvana being s tier. The only reason people hate them is because they have become way too mainstream and wanna be emo kids listen to them nowadays. Smells like teen spirit, lithium, come as you are, heart shaped box these are one of the songs that you'll have to learn when you are learning guitar and are considered among one of the most classic songs of the late 80s and early 90s. So if songs of some band is "taught" as a subject or something in most of the online guitar courses then I think they can classify as a legend.
@@CarlJohnson-iv7sn I see it differently obviously. The Cobain fans I’ve known have had true angst and often are quiet outsiders with high emotions. They connected even more with him after he ya know didn’t make it out so to speak. I’m just saying it’s often his fans identify with him personally & his look at life being the dominant admiration for him. As for 99% of the people in the music community being fans of his, uh nah nope. In fact it’s actually rare that he’s listed as an influence by musicians.
There’s a few ppl that are legends to me and that’s Kurt Cobain. He and his band nirvana has helped me get through some stuff in life. Ik he died years before i was born but it makes me rlly rlly sad that he died. It can make me cry a lot sometimes may Kurt Cobain rest in peace 🙏🏾
Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain were legends in their whole league. Especially Layne with no disrespect towards Kurt, because nobody has and will be ABLE to top Layne’s vocal signature
I love Layne, Layne had been my inspiration and helped me through so much shit, I remember I had to do an essay about him and his life and I almost cried going through it because of how dark his life goes, RIP to Layne Staley
For me Kurt Cobain is a legend. Nirvana may just be some of the best music I've heard in my life. You can say it's weird, depressing or different, but for me that is what makes Nirvana special.
A music group that has affected me in recent is Injury Reserve. I listened to their music on a long car ride home and I gotta say, their discography is probably the most consistent in terms of how good their albums are. Sure there are like one-two skips per album but overall, everything else completely outshines the stinkers. And those stinkers are just songs or interludes that are ok at best. It was cool seeing their development from their first mixtape, "Live from the dentists office" to their 1st official self-titled album. They really stsrted knowing what they were and felt like their music was reaching its maximum potential. Unfortunately, a year or so ago (June 2020), one of the 3 members, Stepa J Groggs had died due to undisclosed reasons (most likely alcohol abuse since he talked about the struggle to improve himself throughout his lyrics) and it left the state of the group confused. One of the most crucial members of the band had died. And they were super close to being finished with their next album, "by the time i get to phoenix". What used to be their energy of "ayy we them boys" that was especially reflected in their previous album had been stripped away. Eventually, in october or so of 2021, they finally released By the time i get to phoenix, and it was a radically different sound to what the previous albums were. It was a heart-wrenching, sonically confusing album and most likely one of injury reserve's last works (although they published a music video for their opening album track, "outside" earlier today, which took me on a loop, and theyre still on tour in Europe for the album, so theyre not done with this album yet). It reflected the uncertainty of the groups future and the mourning of their closest friend's sudden death. The whole album was an experience like no other, and the only prescence of groggs was in their 2nd to last track, "knees", where he talked about the same struggles that most likely killed him. It was saddening and the album did what it wanted to do excellently. Reflect the feelings of the remaining two members. I love injury reserve's discography and i believe stepa J Groggs is one for the history books. Rest in peace, and my prayers go out to his family and daughter as well as the other two members of the group
lowkey the most moving yet depressing album of '21. i fucking love injury reserve and wanted to see them in a few days in cologne but it got canceled :/ rip groggs!
The X death hit me so hard I clearly remember it was June 18,2018 on a Monday between early afternoon hours I was in the movie theaters watching Ms.Incredible with my friends and one of my friends told me during the movie that X got shot. All of us fw with X but I told myself he got shot he’s gonna be alright. After the movie ended, we all checked our phones and realized he died and we all sat/stood there like 15 minutes after the movie ended just shocked at the news. That shit is embedded into my mind, all 5-7 of us were in disbelief. Really sad to see the way he died too.
Never thought Juice's music was amazing or anything i thought he was GOOD but thats it until i started getting into his unreleased songs and i'm just saying he would've been one of the best if he was here today the music he left behind that he hadnt released yet is so fire
This right here is what most people need to realize. He had the most fire music but it's all unreleased. And don't get me wrong I love his official stuff too but something hits different with a lot of the stuff that is yet to be released.
Things like this always sound confusing to me like "bro you gotta listen to the songs he didn't release those are the best ones" like in the case of Juice I guess it's a bit different but are we including the songs released posthumously or just the unreleased ones? Because feels like songs don't get released for a reason

In the years of 2003-2004 such album as Madvillainy or Vaudeville Villain were not only a classic, but some stylistically produced works. Not only to conclude, but to mention his earlier works with KMD,his impact on today’s artists, such as Tyler The Creator or Earl Sweatshirt is actually crazy
MF DOOM will always be one of my all time greats. His flow, beats, they just worked. ALL CAPS and Figaro are definitely bangers, his lyrics in his more serious songs are beautiful aswell.
The thing about MJ that shook me is the fat that he was global before we could go global if you know what i mean like people in Africa were dancing to billie jean in 1980s and we didn't even know anything about internet lmao like to me he is a legend among legends.

X made variety of music in various generes. He showed whole music industry, that there's beauty in roughest songs and even in roughest people. His life journey from hate to love transfered his music to message and inspirited youth. This man defined "beauty" and "love" on his own. The more you go into x's music, the more you like it and appreciate it. Lil Peep was diffrent. It was more of a vibe. He was singing happy melodies and sad chords. He was using major scale on songs written in minor (i don't know how it's called in english but its like song is in Em and you sing it in G. He was using a lot of tritones and offscale notes as well). With his way to music he influenced whole genre of emotrap/emohiphop or whatever u call it. Prince (1958-2016) was the first artist whose death hit me hard. I was born in 2004, long after the peak of his career, but I knew we lost a legend. That entire Purple Rain album was fucking phenomenal. When I first heard the guitar solo/outro from "Let's Go Crazy", I got so many chills I almost cried. It's that beautiful. And his performance at Super Bowl XLI in 2007 was better than the game itself, even as a Peyton Manning fan. "Purple Rain" during that halftime show genuinely made me shed a tear, because not only is this rendition a solid 10/10, I believe the hand of God was on him as there was a rainstorm in Miami that night, and the rain even glowed purple with his stage.
If we're talking about legends, then I gotta talk about Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park. Absolutely loved him and his voice and the music the band made. Artists like Juice and XXX I would consider like a popular artist that was good at the time and had a short stint of greatness like Rae Sremmurd in 2015-2018 when they had several hits and then after that they kind of diminished

Chester Bennington from Linkin Park is a legend in my opinion, that was a celebrity death that hurt a bit during the 2016 celebrity death streak. The last Linkin Park album hurts a bit when you listen to him sing a message he couldn’t hear himself
Agreed
Exactly, One More Light is a painful song
Linkin Park is a staple of 2000’s rock. You can’t have any 2000’s rock playlist without at least a few Linkin Park songs . They were legend even before Chester died like way before that happened. Same with Nirvana they were iconic during their run way before Kurt Cobain died.
exactly. i loved his music when i was a kid. i remember when i was young hearing that he killed himself on the radio. i cried for a week. R.I.P Chester we miss you.
After hearing the news, i immediately went to go listen to the messenger. I literally cried for hours
I feel like a lot of what makes an artist a legend isn’t just what they did music wise but as a person as well. Like Muhammad Ali and Tupac. They did so much outside of boxing/music for their community. And that’s why they’re legends
Tupac praised people giving but usually wanted other celebs to distribute their wealth meanwhile he was loathing

Everyone has their personal opinions but I think what truly makes someone a legend is the objective impact they made.

Even though I only became a fan after his passing, his album run will certify his legend status in the years to come
I prefer him over nas and cole fr imo anybody can make a illmatic and off season nowadays but Mac’s discography from 2012-18 is untouchable and truly one of a kind.. it was a privilege watching him grow from party raps to straight artistry, also swimming is NOT his best project for straight bars and raps WMWTSO,Faces,GOOD AM,his Delusional Thomas mixtape/any SoundCloud only released songs will show you dude could truly spit if he wanted to.. dude has so much it’s insane I have 9 HOURS worth of leaks/SoundCloud songs on my phone

The difference between legends like Tupac and recently dead artists is the fact that Tupac's music had time to age.

Overtime, I kind of dwindled away from his music but it’s not cause I lost love for his music it’s just like you said, you cant really make new stuff if you are no longer here. Crazy talk.

Peter Steele was a absolute Legend in the metal Gothidelic community he passed away in 2010 from heart issues. He had the most amazing bass singing I have heard. He has imspired me to sing, play, and write music like he did.
I’m so happy someone brought up Peter 🙏 him and type o negative is so underrated
⛔️
@ShaelynnFockler08 ain't no way you said Type O negative is underrated. When anyone asks for a Gothic metal recommendation type, O negative is always brought up online.
DOOM, Pac, Biggie, DMX, MJ, Nate Dogg, Takeoff, Mac Miller, J Dilla, Phife Dawg, Eazy E, Prodigy, Big L, ODB, Big Pun, Nujabes, Big Pun are all legends and all contributed to the genre in their own way.
heavy on Tupac and Biggie
Doom had alright and take off in my opinion made horrible music

Prince is awesome
If we're talking about legends, then I gotta talk about Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park. Absolutely loved him and his voice and the music the band made. Each album was incredible and I miss their music to this day. I hope that others can agree too cause they've been around for ages and it's sad to see that they'll never be making music again. RIP Chester man
He’s trying his best to respect the artist by saying “may Rest In Peace” so he won’t get alot of hate comments 😂

You don’t even have to talk about MJ. Damn near EVERY MJ song is a banger and his albums are so good that damn near all of them get debated to be his best one(Thriller, Off the wall, history, past and present, Invincible, This is it)
PERIOD!
Also knowing he’s made music for more than one genre and killed every song. He’s the greatest of all time. No doubt. Bro even dissed Eminem without saying a word.

People like Tupac, Eminem, Biggie, Whiteny Houston, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Prince, and NWA I consider those people legends and if you want more modern legends you can go with people like Rihanna, Drake(OG and impact), Kayne West and his producing skills, Jay Z, Beyonce Kendrick in the early 2010s these are people I would consider legends because they have maintained a certain level of popularity and pristine image for decades. Artists like Juice and XXX I would consider like a popular artist that was good at the time and had a short stint of greatness like Rae Sremmurd in 2015-2018 when they had several hits and then after that they kind of diminished
You can also add Nicki with Drake and Rihanna
Nicki? Tpain? Chris brown? Taylor swift? Justin bieber? A lot of legends that have shaped the current music industry that a lot of people just dont talk about for some reason.
XXX did not diminish whatsoever. Up until his death X was still putting up numbers and had greater success then Rae Sremmurd.
@@TheBlackAztec3 yes, good point. People dont talk about for example nicki enough. She shaped todays female rap and made it a thing back in 2010 when it was dead. Without her there would be no cardi b, no megan, no doja... all ppl u mentioned did a lot for the culture
