Some folks shine a bright flashlight through the objective end out the eyepiece so the reticle is projwcted on the wall.. They hang a plumb bob on the wall and align the vertical cross hair with it.
one thing on using the flag pole....it will not work if your holding the gun. You need to have it mounted and then place on flagpole if you want. But level is best way. Holding the gun you will automatically adjust hairs to level. vertical wise.
I just picked up a Tikka t3x lite in 6.5 prc, Im thinking of this scope or possibly the Vx5 in 4-20x52 but then may be ok with the Mark5 3.6-18x44 in ffp also lol. If it were you what would you do? lol I do like drop retricles but may be ok with switching over to a dial system. want to shoot out on paper far and hunt it up to 500- 550yds
@@straightshooter7354 thank you for your insight, will be mainly western hunting muleys and elk. Just don’t know if FFP will be as bad as some say close range on the mark 5, may go with the V series in longer range
Thanks for the great video. I will be mounting the same scope on a X Bolt. did you use the Leopold mounts or something else? I go through the Mount Finder on Leopold's website and it wants to push me towards the High mounts. Are these the Medium Leopolds for this rifle? Thanks!
I have almost the same gun. But mine is 280AI LR model. I just bought a new Leupold scope. A VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle.

If it were me I would go with this scope, or the 3-18, if your going hunting I think the 4-20 might be a touch bulky but that is up to you

I TAKE THE BOLT OUT AND USE A FLAT BAR STOCK TO LEVEL.
I removed my bolt on my xbolt and used the tang to level my rifle in the vise.

I would trust my level a lot more than I would my body holding it towards a flag pole
