- In this week’s episode, we have a look at the Xvive U6 wireless microphone system. This affordable consumer-grade wireless system features an in-built mic and rechargeable battery, a choice between 4 different frequency channels within the 2.4 GHz band, and simple menu-free operation. It can also send audio straight to your camera from the receiver. In this episode we walk through the U6’s feature set, test out its performance in a variety of distance tests, and demonstrate its use to help you decide whether this system is right for your audio needs. Let’s take a closer look!

As they are miniaturizing these mics there is going to be a compromise on cutting back on internal recording, eliminating lav mic input, transmitter size, battery size etc. I like the simplicity and the sound quality could be addressed in post. Hopefully they sound good when placed behind a shirt or coat. Their spec shows a high dynamic range and I expected much lower noise floor. Couple of the receivers could be mounted on a dual input “on camera small passive mixer” to stereo output. Great review.
👍
New music! Good choice.
Thanks Shawn. 👍🎵
about few months ago I bought Godox MoveLink M1 for about same price ($129) but it come with two transmitters, has 3.5mm input and decent mics. Love them, working flawless for me never had any issue
Glad to hear it and looking forward to reviewing them. 👍
Where? That's a steal.
Thanks
You are welcome!
I like the new theme song.
At the end you kept mentioning the rode wireless go 2 which I think is the 2 transmitter , 1 receiver system.
Yes, my mistake, but I believe those notes all reflect my experience with the OG Wireless GO and the II.
Have you used the Sony UWP-D systems? Particularly interested in the newest (UWP-D27), but any would be good. Curious of your opinion, and putting that on my Curtis Judd wishlist :)
I haven’t used any of the Sony digital wireless system but perhaps at some point I can borrow a kit to give it a spin.
The Sony UWP-D systems are the best you can get for less than $1000, hands down. Excellent sound quality, very good handling of conditions which would cause dropouts on other systems.
@@djp_video appreciate the input for sure. Was between this and a couple channels of Sennheiser. Just not ready to make the jump to lectrosonics. Haven't seen a ton of UA-cam coverage of the Sony wireless, but the Reddit feedback is mostly pretty positive. Gonna give them a go (ordered but on backorder of course)
I like the two-channel receiver from Sony. It's easier to set up on a camcorder. This is missing in Sennheiser's "affordable" series. No worries with the rigid antennas. I still have a preference for the "clarity" of the microphone that comes with the Sennheisers over the Sony, it's subtle. Where I am, spare parts for the Sony may be a bit more difficult to find.
@@2121cv I do worry about parts, even here in the States. But yes, looking at the two channel receiver. I'm not a huge fan of the mics that come with the Sony. I already ordered alternative mics 🙂
How do you compare this to the NUX B-10 VLOG?
Never heard of the NUX.
New theme song. Nice.
👍
how is the output cable? mono to left or right channel? or to both channels?
Both channels
How would this compare to the DJI wireless mic system as far as quality is concerned?
I'm hoping to get the DJI wireless system in so that I can review and compare. 👍
@@curtisjudd great! I'll keep an eye on your channel

Interesting option. For my use case, I feel wireless doesn't provide any advantage, but it's nice to check out these videos about them.
Wise choice.
Still waiting for Rode to tackle the Sennheiser G3 / G4 series. I dont understand why Rode did not try to get their products into that price / quality range 😞
Yes, interesting. I think if you were to ask them at RODE, they'd say that's what their RODELink system is the G3/G4 competitor. But I see UHF systems as very different.
@@curtisjudd I don't mind if I use UHF or 2.5 GHZ as the transmission method, both work pretty reliably for me. But the build quality of the G3 and G4 is so much better and more reliable than the rickety and significantly less rugged Rodes.
i have no idea why they and many other companies are not using standard action cam/gopro clone batteries with a small battery door, that'd solve so many issues and extend the lifespan.
👍
Micro usb charger?
The kit includes a cable with is USB-A on one end and has two USB micro connectors on the other to charge both the transmitter and receiver at the same time. You plug the USB-A end of the cable into pretty much any USB-A port to charge. The kit does NOT come with a dedicated AC charger.
Bummer that it doesn't have a mic input.
Yep.
1:22 I already know that the Rode wireless go is the clear winner.
Not so clear for people who have to keep the cost to under $150USD. 🙃
Have you tested the DJI Wireless Microphone?
Not yet but soon. This one is significantly less expensive so not quite in the same league.
Why is the microphone hissing at me ;)
LOL! That’s common at this price.
@@curtisjudd I know, I tested a pile of mics on my studio channel ;). The sound quality seems to be good when listening through my Bluetooth headphones. At the price range it is often either compressed sound stage or lowish resolution sound little to no hiss or good Audio with hiss. It becomes a "pick your poison". A "What matters to you" type situation. The Xvive U5T2 is currently my favorite wireless lav sound system... It however does not like mobile phones near it.
@@sparketech agreed. Always a trade-off.
Rode rules yet.
For a bit more money, yes.
Lack of mic input is the deal breaker.
For you and me.
