@@Maddogtrucking for the work those little macks can do and on very little fuel and run forever they are the way to go , but if you really pulling heavy load and very easy to shift and run forever the 3406 is way to go ...... very expensive but also resale almost like new .
@user-lq4mo8dw1p good question. I'm a die hard mack guy use to praise their auto power divider which this truck has but I never really know if the power divider is doing what it should. It will go through some muck but not as well as a truck with a manual power divider with axle lock. if I was to spec out a new truck it would have manual lockers. The pete I drive now has that set up (on air ride) and will go places my mack wishes it could.
@@Maddogtrucking I hauled coal for over 30 years and I've driven almost everything you can think of and may already know this but when it comes to getting a mack power devider to lock up when the wheels are starting to spin you go ahead and rev it pretty high rpm's then quickly let completely off the fuel then go back full throttle quickly and that locks up the rears .....they work if it's done right .
I started hauling fuel 45 yrs ago. I drove an r700 that had a 290 Cummins, with a 10 spd. When someone asked on the radio what I had for a motor,,, I told them it was a rolls, canhardly. Rolls like a bitch downhill,, can hardly make it up hill. Boy, come a long way since then.
I always found it odd that original owners bought long hood trucks then spec the small engine. I wonder what the difference in cost a R600 and R700 was with the same specs. If the cost was marginal, then it was bought purely for looks.
@@thekodiak77i said that because everyone were comparing this old mack with newer trucks with 3406 or c15 but when this truck was made in 60s and 70s caterpilar didn't yet have a good truck engine with engine brake. @@Maddogtrucking Thats a nice Mack. The old Mack trucks 1970s/80s models are tough looking.The headlights look like they are frowning at you 💪
BINGO💪
@SCREENUSEDKEITH yup
Yearssssss ago, for some months, I drove a R600, with a 300 and a TRXL107 and I liked it
Owned every kind of truck these old Mack’s would make money other trucks would break ur ass
Mack its a good trucks, in woods and construction 😊
Turn the fuel up by 15% and you'll see a black ball of smoke come out of that bad boy

I lived in one of these for about ten years then finally got in a 3406 CAT and never looked back
@@TerryDavis-p1d same here. I went from a 300 mack to a 3406E. That cat had literally almost twice the power output of the little mack.

For those who said he should get 3406, I think that Mack e9 v8 could eat and spit every 3406 in terms of power and torque.
An E9? Bud that's a Maxidyne not an E9
For some reason I thought E7 then I remembered E7s didn't show up till the 80s 😂

Sounds like an old Mack with a leaky manifold. gasket. Now if you want a great turbo sound, listen to a 1693TA Cat.
