    I watched this like 2-3 years ago easy and did this last winter. It’s fun to have. I installed a relay and put my f150 horn and it bolted to the same holes from the cover that the wheel sits on.

    Also, you can do what I did: override seat sensor. You can get her mowing real straight and then jump off and run get another beer then jump back on. With a bit of luck, your line won't be too crooked, but after several beer runs it's going to be off anyway!

      My mom wanted to keep the physical seat switch without cutting the factory wires just in case for later so she removed it and just zip tied the button down and let it dangle XD

    Absolutely a great modification. I have a John Deere Sabre mower that is pretty much the same as yours and I agree: I can't figure out how the stupid button to reverse makes it safer.

    Haha that's awesome, husqvarna did a good design with having the reverse built into the ignition, you just turn the key to a second position that allows you to mow in reverse and leave it there the rest of the time. I wanna stick a horn on mine but oil pressure, oil temp, and voltage gauges are first :)

  • @briansmobile1
    @briansmobile1  13 років тому

    @ballershanelle It looks small, but it's a third acre of grass. Plus like you say I mow the neighbors quite often too. I identify things that I have cognitive dissonance for and then address them such that I can make them something I actually look forward to. A riding lawn mower does this for me with mowing the lawn. I also use it to move the trampoline and move the trailers to mow under them.

    Dude, awesome Subaru Outback! Oh, and by the way, you have so eloquently showed how stupid and dangerous some of these "Safety" features are that they have put on lawn mowers over the years. Not only are they stupid, they make the equipment totally unusable. At least my Cub has a setting on the key switch to allow backing up with the mower running, but it still has other annoying "Safety" features. Love the new horn. Keep on modding.

    If you open hood and look at the lever that engages the blades there is a simple switch that opens when the blades are engaged. I simply used a zip tie to keep it closed.

    @ndchevy I kept the yellow one because it's momentary. It would be best in the center of the steering wheel, bu then I'd have to mount a clock spring from an air bag and I'd rather go fly my helicopter to hunt or something else.

    @goodbro I've done SO MANY different ones (by customer demand) They all proved to create hazardous waste and didn't improve mileage. The BEST way to improve mileage is to get gas to vaporize better through charcoal canister trays and high vacuum/heat and trapping liquid to stay in the tank. Check out Tom Ogle on Google. There's also the Fish and Pogue carburetor designs.

    the safety reverse button on a JD 170 you only have to hold it for the 1st second in reverse and then it's in "safety mode" for as long as you are backing up and it's mounted a little higher which makes multi-tasking a little easier. guess they didn't think about that with the smaller model

    I have the same mower. That safety feature is not an issue. I don't think you realize that you don't have to push and hold that button the whole time while the blades are engaged. You just have to push it initially when you first go to back up and then release it and keep backing up with the blades engaged. Then you can do all of your twisting and turning around without having to worry about a safety feature being a nuisance. I personally never look back when my blades are engaged. I just run over everything. No twisting and turning needed. Yes, I am being serious.

    Subaru Horns are louder! I dont like working on riders but seriously,I started working on them a while ago and craftsman sucks. They keep me in hobby money. I saw where grandpa ran over the kiddy playhouse chopping his grandkids leg off. Best bet is to never mow around or over kids toys,or allow them to ride anywhere other than in a cart WITHOUT actually mowing anything. Make sure JR is inside with Grandma,always.

    John Deere usually does things right, but that one is a head-scratcher. Are the blades automatically shut off when you get up off the seat and forget to turn the PTO off? I assume that strange feature was born out of litigation. At least they made it easy to disable.

    Do you have a better video showing what wire went where on the switch? I've tried multiple ways and only get sparks and smoke.

  • @Lulanda93
    @Lulanda93 4 роки тому

    This is a problem that definitely needs to be addressed however connecting the wires this way is not the greatest idea because their are relays that are temporarily engaged when the button is pressed and they are not designed to be on all the time. When you connect those wires the relays are constantly running. Eventually it will cause issues with the electrical system, seen it time and time again. They need to have a multi position key switch like most mowers now days but John Deere has to over engineer everything.

  • @billcenne7262
    @billcenne7262 7 років тому

    The best advice is to do everything "REAL" slow and just move short distances, stop and look around, then go another short distance until you are finished. All's it takes is one malfunction and you are 'HAMBURGER' ! ! !

  • @briansmobile1
    @briansmobile1  13 років тому

    @epiphaknee Some times big successful companies like John Deere become targets for lawsuits by entitlement lawsuit types. Farming of all professions is one of the more dangerous jobs in the world. When you look in medical books there's no shortage of PTO related injuries in the illustrations. If you don't have the blade off and the parking brake set the tractor will shut the engine off. I think the lowest common denominator of end users are pretty low down the education/intelligence strata.

    Hey Brian, I have a 2000 Toyota Rav4 (same as a Camry 4cl engine) and today when I tried to go to work it barely started. When I turned the key, there was this rapid clicking sound and the engine didn't want to turn over. The 2nd time I turned the key the engine started to turn an couple of times and then it turned on.
    Now, could this be due to a bad starter (clicking sound) or is this due to a bad battery?

    replace that GARBAGE hydro fluid with some synthetic. Deere uses cheap tufftorq hydro on lower models...with conventional oil so it fails just out of warranty. considering the fact that you are using attachments and working that Hydro hard you really need to change that fluid out quick.

    Lol you do not have to hold the button the whole time you reverse, dingleberry you just have to present wants to engage reverse, and then you can steer and look backwards. It’s the same for my 2022 model. My brother has the same over you have here. You just got a present for half a second and then you can move in reverse and steer. But I like the horn idea as well. I’ll have to add an extra button to add a horn.
