Hey SickleYield! I have bought so many of your products like your rigged water, shackled, tied up, your new whips bundle and more. I know that when I buy a SickleYield prop it will be well rigged. Also thanks for teaching me so much I have learned alot from you.
Late to the party as usual, but for me this works for G3 hair to G8 as well as far as I can tell, only converted short hair so far, but I assume id ned to transfer rigging with long hair.
Hmm I can't seem to be able to find Genesis 8 in the prefered base... Any chance you know why that would happen? I mean Genesis 3 is the only thing I can see in prefered base.
apparently it works for garments that do not have sleeves, it does not work for coats, sweaters ... etc (men and women)...the fabric of the arms is deformed
Is there something I don't know I feel like I should be able to get this pose you used from Daz yet I got it from your dropbox which thank you a lot for that. Just wondering if there is a reason daz does not do this. Thanks again helped me out alot. :)
Can you show me how to do the reverse? I have a genesis 3 male that i want to fit gensis 8 boot too. I tried doing the "A pose for genesis 8" to genesis 3, nothing happend.
Unfortunately this doesn't work with some outfit pieces, specifically the Egyptian Bast outfit dress. I did this process to convert it from g3f to g8f exactly as shown, and it did not conform to g8f when I returned her to the g8f default pose.
I'm gonna sound like an idiot, but I have to ask: I saw you save the re-trained dress for future use as a "figure/prop"... how do I actually load it again once saved? I'm super excited as I've gotten the rest of the things you describe in this video to work for me so thank you thank you thank you!
hi! im trying to use a genesis 8 hills for a genesis 3 character! this video was really helpfull but at the end you didnt explain how you pose the feet just to match the pose for genesis 8 :( any solution? thank you a lot!
Hello. Your video is different from your text version text" Before you perform the transfer step, pose the clothing to match the target figure (arms down for G8, arms up for G3) and click the Bone Editor. It looks like a bone with a pencil across it. Now right-click in the 3d window and choose Edit and Bake Joint Rotations." Which method is correct?
Well, I'm dumb. I can't figure out where to put the pose. I tried to put in the Poses folder of the Genesis 8 Female folder and the Base Poses folder, but it's not showing up in Daz.
You can put it in the poses folder of G8F or G8m depending. You won't see it if you don't refresh. You can find in your content folder where you put it, alternatively just drag it from your finder window onto the figure, doesn't matter why part of the figure you drop it on.
Hi, there. Can you tell me where to find information on weight mapping. I’m trying to learn about rigging and creating textures for clothes I make in Marvelous Design. Thank you so much. I love your tutorials. From a true beginner in design.
It is a lengthy subject, but if you have a base mesh exported from MD you can start here: www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-G1G2G3G8-Clothing-in-Blender-2-428648708 Remember: You need to quadrangulate all your clothing pieces in MD before you export.
Excellent tutorial, however, the boots your used in your example seem to be modeled and saved against a Genesis 3 foot that is bent into the high heel position. When using this method with a strappy high heel sandal that is rigged and saved in the default G3 foot position, it doesn't seem to turn out quite as well.
Shame. I tried this with the g3 cork wedges but they angle downwards and clip into the shins. I clicked on the link but I don't think I understood it. I tried unconforming but it just causes the heels to snap back to their original location. I also got it to work on a base genesis 8 female but I can't get it to work on base female with morphs. I have to apply the morphs after I fit the shoes?
Maybe add a little forearm bend to match them up more closely before transfer? I don't always find it necessary but occasionally it helps with longer sleeves or wrist items.
I'm having trouble locating the "Genesis 3 Pose for Genesis 8". I didn't see a download link on the tutorial over on Deviantart either. Could you please point me in the right direction?
Thankfully, I have =D Use the Daz download manager and download/install the Postgre thing - and then make sure you have G8F basics installed from there. Problem solved!
Hello, since the last update (Introduction of genesis 8) I have been having some issues with Daz.Amongst other things, I can't seem to be able to change the hair material of my figures and cannot delete things like hair and clothes without deleting the entire figure. Have you encountered similar issues?
I'm book marking this for when I get V8. Thank you for this tutorial. Will this method work for G2 to G3? Some articles of clothing for G2 dont fit right with AutoFit (certain shoes, loin cloths, etc)
No, G2 and G3 have different rigging methods and different geometry, whereas G3 and G8 are almost the same figure in a different pose (there are changes to the heel and eyes, and there's conforming lashes, but it's not a huge difference). There's no easy way to preserve custom bones between G2-G3. For shoes, though, try this: sickleyield.deviantart.com/art/A-Reminder-on-Autofitting-Shoes-to-Genesis-2-or-3-412985230
Hi - Following the tutorial on the shoes, when I edit>rigging>transfer rigging (figure space) the toes on G8F curl up horribly, and the foot arches out of the shoe - is there something in DS I need to turn on or off prior to this command. All previous steps worked fine as shown in the tutorial?
If it is changing the toes of G8F it sounds like you are transferring TO G8 rather than FROM it? Make sure you have selected G8 first, then ctrl click the shoes second.
Question! I'm trying to get P3D's Overtime G3 to G8F, but it always places the heels below the model. Is it due to the heels being placed on the "floor", unlike other heels? Also, unlike those heels, you are using they don't require posing, as the heel fit to G3F in default foot pose!
This is a great tutorial. Thank you! However when select the Scene Identification, in the preferred base it doesn't list genesis 8 female. I have only genesis 2. Did I miss something?
Install or re-install Genesis 2/3/8 Starter Essentials. Had same issue, and re-installation THROUGH DAZ Install Manager did solve the issue(seems something was wrong with metadata).
Not at all, and it will not work with TriAx figures either. Genesis 3 and 8 share not only the dual-quaternion weight mapping system but also are almost the same base geometry in shape.
Daz employees are paid hourly. So every time they build in a new feature, Daz adds that to their overhead on a program they're offering for free - dev time is money, basically.
Hey, SickleYield...I know your descrip for this vid states that it'll be the same for G8 male. Can you tell me if the pose is identical, or do we need to adjust somehow?
Why would one yield their sickle? Isn't it better to wield it? That's what Bernkastel would wonder. I'm sure Rika would Nipah~ in agreement. ua-cam.com/video/m_UHO60tkdg/v-deo.html
This video did NOT work for me. I'm very pissed, frankly, I followed this video to convert a set of shoes from Genesis 3 female to 8 female, and not only did it not work (it warped the mesh horribly) but it did something to Genesis 8 as well. I lost 2 hours worth of design work on my best character yet, which I will have to redo from SCRATCH, because your stupid conversion pose ruined the rig in Genesis 8's feet, and made it so I can't use any shoes at all, not even ones designed for Genesis 8.
Worked fine for me. And many other people. So, before you start slinging blame, and referring to someone else's work as "stupid," you'd best be absolutely sure it's not a problem on your end. Which, if using a pose file caused NONE of the shoes to work...I'm betting it's not the pose.
I've been struggling for a while with these conversions (and I haven't figured out how to use hexagon yet) so this video is a life saver.
Hey SickleYield! I have bought so many of your products like your rigged water, shackled, tied up, your new whips bundle and more. I know that when I buy a SickleYield prop it will be well rigged. Also thanks for teaching me so much I have learned alot from you.
Thank you Sickle! This is going to reduce my render induced rage by about 30000%.
Many Thanks Sickle. Was wanted to use clothes from G8F to G3F and worked like a charm.
@sickleYield, your tutorials are the best. Please do keep it up, you are sooooo knowledgeable. Especially when it comes to rigging. Thank you.
Great tutorial, very quickly (but not to much) and well explained. Love it.
Hi Sickleyield, just have to tell you that your work is great, thanks for doing what you do.
Thank you so much. Had a hard time getting a Genesis 3 Twi'lek Lekku prop to Work on Genesis 8. This allowed me to fix that.
Late to the party as usual, but for me this works for G3 hair to G8 as well as far as I can tell, only converted short hair so far, but I assume id ned to transfer rigging with long hair.
This has SAVED my renders! YOU ARE THE BEST! 💖💖💖💖💖
I linked your video in my reply in the "So Genesis 8 is here!" thread on the DAZ forums.
Will definitely give it a try. Thank you.
Doing the "fit to" change at 1:51 deforms the sleeves of my shirt in a weird way... Don't seem to work (any longer?) this way....
Can you make videos like this for Genesis 2, Genesis and generation 4?
Thanks for the video SY. Much appreciated. Is there anything different for 8.1 other than the Scene ID dropdown step?
Is this basically what the RSSY clothing converter products are doing under the hood?
Well done video! Very informative and easy to follow.
Hmm I can't seem to be able to find Genesis 8 in the prefered base... Any chance you know why that would happen? I mean Genesis 3 is the only thing I can see in prefered base.
Absolutely love your videos. Extremely informative and a pleasure to watch. I just wish I could type my notes fast enough Sensei! :)
Many Thanks! Your tutorial finally solved my confusion. I've tried for really a long time previously, but faild.
the method you use here, can it also be applied to a Genesis 8 Hair that i want on Genesis 2 Female ?
why does my clothing deform when i fit to genesis 8?
apparently it works for garments that do not have sleeves, it does not work for coats, sweaters ... etc (men and women)...the fabric of the arms is deformed

Nice tutorial, although some bits need to be a bit slower, ie saving as a support asset.
THANK YOU!!! :D This was a great help.
Can you show me how to do the reverse? I have a genesis 3 male that i want to fit gensis 8 boot too. I tried doing the "A pose for genesis 8" to genesis 3, nothing happend.
Incredibly helpful thank you so much!
It is so helpful! Thank You so much for this tutorial!

Genesis 8 doesn't appear in the compatibility base list.
Great information hon. Thanks so much for the tutelage!
I'm gonna sound like an idiot, but I have to ask: I saw you save the re-trained dress for future use as a "figure/prop"... how do I actually load it again once saved? I'm super excited as I've gotten the rest of the things you describe in this video to work for me so thank you thank you thank you!

Wow, awesome stuff, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Awesome tutorial! But still having trouble fitting G3 clothes on Victoria 8 for some reason.
wow this info is gold, thanks so much you make my life easier from now on 😁

Perfect. This worked a treat.
You forgot to mention where you install the G3 for G8 pose in order for Daz to Recognize it. Where do you put it?
www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Installing-Content-in-DAZ-Studio-508155677
Converting 8 to 3 gives me some weird stuff with the Forearm Bend section when morphs are applied. Looks good on the Genesis 3 figure. Any tips?
Maybe add a little forearm bend to match them up more closely before transfer? I don't always find it necessary but occasionally it helps with longer sleeves or wrist items.
thankyou for the video, i needed this
Thanks! Very useable! !!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, SY! I now have shoes that fit :D
Genesis 8 for Genesis 3 ?
An error occurred while reading the file. I can't get the pose to load on DS 4.12
Thank you so much. It was very helpful.
Super smart. Thanks !
Dosen't work for heels auto fit triggers anyway.
I'm having trouble locating the "Genesis 3 Pose for Genesis 8". I didn't see a download link on the tutorial over on Deviantart either. Could you please point me in the right direction?
For poke-through, why not apply smoothing modifier?
That's a good idea, too!
Genesis 8?
sir1junior Did i miss something?????
My problem is that when I click on preferd base the box is empty. Any helping ideas?
I'm having the exact same problem - only had it after reinstalling Daz on a new drive, did you ever find a solution?
sadly no
Thankfully, I have =D Use the Daz download manager and download/install the Postgre thing - and then make sure you have G8F basics installed from there. Problem solved!
maybe I have to uninstall complete. Install didnt helped and when I am Installing G8 with the manager allways comes "install failed"

Thank you lots
Can the same piece of clothing be saved to the library and loaded for both G3 and G8, or does it require two separate library files?
It would require two separate library files.

Genesis 8??? Holy cow, it IS out and I have a coupon for V8.....
Question! I'm trying to get P3D's Overtime G3 to G8F, but it always places the heels below the model. Is it due to the heels being placed on the "floor", unlike other heels? Also, unlike those heels, you are using they don't require posing, as the heel fit to G3F in default foot pose!
Probably. Are they placed below the figure with standard autofit?
Yes, they are!
If they're out of position with AutoFit the tutorial method still should work.
Ok, I'll try again!
Where must i install the pose file?
This is a great tutorial. Thank you! However when select the Scene Identification, in the preferred base it doesn't list genesis 8 female. I have only genesis 2. Did I miss something?

Not at all, and it will not work with TriAx figures either. Genesis 3 and 8 share not only the dual-quaternion weight mapping system but also are almost the same base geometry in shape.
Right on, thanks.
You da real MVP!
Wonder why Daz couldn't come out with this info. Or maybe include it in the autofit script. Lazy bastards.
The G8 Pose is identical, and the adjustments between G3 and G8 are the same regardless of the figure sex.
SickleYield Thanks for the reply!!
Now it does it automatically
Thank you ...
dose this work with the hair too?
Yep. Hair For G3 is a conformer just like clothing and shoes.
cool thank you very much
this methond didnt work for me.
Great video
aaaaaaand doesn't work in 4.10 pro
Obrigado, me ajudou bastante! (Brazil)
De nada :)
New to Daz Studio. Honest question; 'twas just a typo- you meant Genesis 3 to GENERATION 8, correct? 😨
DAZ has decided to skip to genesis 8 to line up with the generation number. So genesis 3 = generation 7 and genesis 8 = generation 8.
eric susch Ah! Makes sense. The way things were categorized in the past was so confusing. Thanx!
Wow.
Gotta pause to go buy stuff....
I got it :)
Why would one yield their sickle? Isn't it better to wield it?
That's what Bernkastel would wonder. I'm sure Rika would Nipah~ in agreement.

High heeled shoes require a special procedure:
