Because (Beatles cover)

- For your listening and viewing pleasure, I present to you a cover of the Beatles song "Because". As was done on the original recording, there are three harmony parts, recorded three times for a total of nine voices.
This was one of the first Beatles cover videos I started to work on (back in 2009). The only part that I ended up using from those first recording sessions was the bass. Originally, I had used a digital sample of the hard-to-find Baldwin Electric Harpsichord (the instrument heard on the original recording). However, in the end, I was very privileged to have been able to use the "real deal" in putting this video together.
Another vintage keyboard seen (and heard) in this video is a Moog Model 15 modular synthesizer, similar to (albeit a smaller system than) the Moog Model IIIp modular synthesizer heard in the original recording (and featured on various songs throughout the "Abbey Road" album). One point I wanted to get across is the fact that, unlike synthesizers manufactured from about 1977 onward, these modular synthesizers had no way of saving different sound configurations. In other words, to go from one sound to another, you had to manually adjust the various knobs and patch cord connections. I decided to record video of the process I went through to go from the brass-like sound you hear in the middle of the song, to the higher-pitched hollow sound you hear playing the melody towards the end of the song. As on the original recording, that ending synthesizer part is doubled (almost identical performances), which is why there are two synthesizers on screen at that point. Very special thanks to Joe McGinty of Carousel Recording (www-dot-CarouselRecording-dot-com) for the use of the Baldwin and Moog!
As usual, I'm playing and singing all the parts. What you see in this video are the actual performances as I recorded them. There is no "lip-syncing" or miming. Enjoy!
He's wearing the colors of each Beatle corresponding to the cover of abbey road. George in blue singing the low part. John in white singing the melody and Paul in a suit singing the high part. Epic
I like your comment. You're very observant to have noticed that. I noticed the clothing, but made no connection with the Abbey Road cover. This guy's attention to detail is indeed epic in every way.
How observant you are! Very nice.
i wonder if ringo was part of the harmony how it would change because his voice is generally lower than the other beatles y’know
@@katiemago Ringo was keeping time for the whole thing but not on tape, Peace.
The man, who only took random clothes:
Yeah, *i guess*
This is insanely perfect. I don't think I've ever heard a cover more beautifully done.
Elliot smiths was as beautiful
Listen Pedro Aznar version
I completely agree with this comment
Try listening to the Analogues.
Fax
Because this cover is so well done, it turns me on.
Because your ability to analyse music is incredible, it blows my mind.
Because the harmony is so beautiful, it makes me cry.
Thanks!
If you ask me which is my favourite Beatles Album the answer is Abbey Road. Why? BECAUSE
Great reply
Great reply
Costello: Well then who's on first?
Abbott: Yes
I don't autocorrect my tracks. I've used Melodyne on occasion to manually adjust a few notes in an otherwise good take. Here's why: I'm recording video as I record the audio. If this was an audio-only recording, I'd just re-do the one spot that needs fixing and sing it again. But, with video you'd see the edit. I do the video of each part as one continuous take. If I mess up, I start over. Many people use Melodyne to make up for difficulties with singing in tune. I am not one of those people.
This is the best Beatles cover I’ve seen on UA-cam. The tone of the instruments match perfectly, and you even played a Moog?! Blown away!
Thanks so much!
Wow! The Beatles and their entire production team would be very proud of you for carefully studying and performing their art to perfection. You’re a talented one-man band. Thanks for literally showing us how it’s done! 👏👏👏👏
Abby Martin Thanks so much!
@@AllYouNeedIsLub You are so welcome--you're richly blessed with talent, amen.
I aspire to be you. The phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" can be put to rest by your efforts. Your grasp of music is firm and your skills on each instrument are finely honed. If you don't wake up every day proud of the work you've put into your craft then you seriously need to change your mindset.
Stevie K Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I am very proud of what I've done, and am working on more videos.
They're hard to come by but my favourite kind of covers are when someone recreates the song and gets as close to the original as possible. This is one of the best i've seen when it comes to that.
Thank you very much!
Check out group call Analogues, from Netherlands.. They are superb as well.
Now that was a labor of love right there. Awesome.
That is exactly right. A labor of love, on the first choir harmonies it touched me. My compliments for the lengths you go into for re-creating the original Andrew.
A labor of Lub
I just did SoundHound on this... they say it IS the Beatles :-)
They say it's from some studio recordings released in 1989 on an album called Ultra Rare Trax.
So, although we didn't really need SoundHound to confirm it... you're succeeding in recreating the Beatles' sound.
Thanks for all the work you do putting together these recreations...
Excellent work. Very well done, on all instruments and in all vocal parts. A hell of a lot of work for one person, but what a satisfying end result.
Absolutely amazing. Paul, George, John, and Ringo would be so proud
Musique des anges ! tout simplement divin.
Like talking to oneself....such a great conversation!
8 years later and this Beatles cover's still the best one done on UA-cam!
Mikey_Suze Four Thanks! I’m posting a new one at the end of this month.
@@AllYouNeedIsLub You're very welcome sir!
And here I thought your "a cappella" version was great, only to be blown away by the fact that not only do you play other instruments; but, you also know how to properly use a Moog.
Impressive mate. Cheers
At the beginning I thought: "is is a cover?"
So close to the original, the best harmonies ever!!!
Great job!! Looking foward for more covers :)
I absolutely agree with Matthew McDermott ... Your cover of Because by The Beatles is absolutlely perfect! I don't think I've ever heard a cover more beautifully done. And what most brilliant is you have done it all by yourself recording all the tracks one at time!
Greg Gamba Thank you very much! I really appreciate your kind words.
I just can't get enough of this version. Masterful.
As beautiful as the tune from the film Across The Universe...
11 years later and i'm still watching this!
Thanks!
I love that Harpsichord, you can actually see the mechanism through the clear lid. The Harpsichord has long since been revived by the Beatles and it's becoming more popular these days.
Thank you! I learned the vocal harmonies by listening to the record.
Excellent!
Just massively fantastic.
Brilliant!
Mesmerizing in multiple ways... WOW
Bravo Sir!
I watched your harmony video, then walked away from the computer. From the kitchen I then heard the beautiful "original version" by The Beatles playing...only to stroll by the screen and see that it was you again. Absolutely amazing to see and hear what you're able to do. Time to head to your website!
Beautiful...!
Ok, this was amazing.
Wow! Excellent and very helpful! Thank you very much!
That was sensational!!! You made me cry!!!!
It is frightening how good that was. WOW!
Wow you are genius. Simply perfect. I LOVE how you used an analog synth for the sin+effect tone solo. It made me happy from the start to see EVERYTHING so perfectly in analog and god the amazing singing.
Viren Mirpuri Thank you so much!
Incredible, thank you.
Simply too beautiful You are outstanding
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded. Of course...it is the Beatles!!
Like how you dressed as the album!
Best cover there is, hands down.
one of the best covers ever....great job
I can imagine it was quite difficult to get that Moog sound like in the original song.
Holy mackerel! You even got the authentic instruments (not to mention a commendable attempt at duplicating the wardrobe choices of Our Heroes!)
This is truly superlative. Well done!
Thank you. The Baldwin electric harpsichord and Moog modular synth are not mine (I found a studio that had both). I chose to wear the different outfits as a way to visually indicate whose part I’m singing (rather than writing “John”, “Paul” and “George” onscreen).
Boy, you made me cry...because you are amazing.
I don't normally like Beatles covers but this one was amazing good job and props to you!
I'm astonished and speechless
Mother of goodness this is phenomenal
The best cover of this song that I have ever heard!
Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic cover!!!
Now that is a musician.
Holy crap! This sounds amazing and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between the Beatles and yourself!
What a beautiful cover!I'm satisfied ❤
Great tribute to the great John Lennon! Dear John, RIP.
Most people sound horrible when doing the harmony but this is fantastic
Your vids are great to watch, I worked in many commercials (singing voice only) and live band work and I've worked with hundreds of musicians but I've never met or seen anyone who comes close to what you achieve, to me it's astonishing.
Holy cow. This is the most impressive cover I’ve heard of this song. So good.
Phenomenal job on all parts. I am so surprised that you were able to nail the moog portions so flawlessly
Thanks!
It is like.... Like an ode to a new born day....with splinters of golden daylight spreading slowly across the gray of dawn and the ever gentle roar of the wind as I cavorts with the waves on the shore...
Ab-so-lute-ly FABULOUS!!! 😊🎶👍👊
This is something every Beatles fan needs to see, and John would be very impressed with. Absolutely incredible from start to finish. Massive fan of yours after watching literally 3 videos
Spongebabe Thanks!
This is fantastic, and your harmony breakdown video is extremely helpful! I'm thinking of doing a parody of the song for my kids show and was wondering if you would be willing to let me use your instrumental track, as it's probably the best one out there. I would of course credit you and your channel and include any links you wanted.
Hi, Arlo! Didn't expect to see you here! Anyway, I was wondering the same thing, but for a Beatles Rock band Remix video.
Arlo ARLO!
Arlo what a strange surprise lol
Arlo! We need Paper Mario for Switch!!!
ARLO
Very nice three harmony blend. I especially liked the work you did with Paul's part, which in my opinion is the trickiest... Very easy to drag and or be sharp as shit. Good cover! I can tell a lot of hard work was put into the production.
My god, this is absolutely beautiful.
Thanks. I do change the vocal timbre for each part (John, Paul, George). You may hear a difference if you listen to the harmony breakdown video I posted. It might not be as evident in this song, but if you listen to my video of the song "This Boy" (especially the harmony breakdown video), you can hear a difference. Even if I change my vocal timbre, I'm still the same person physically, so there will always be a bit of a sonic "thumbprint" that comes through.
I love your Beatles covers. I hope that you do more. They are the best Beatles covers that I have EVER HEARD!!!! Please do some more.
Saved as one of me favourites...I revisit often. Thanks Mate.
Wow, just wow. Wordless! Bravo!
Speechless, incredible...what truly impressed me was the old-school synth and you on-the-fly programming and the vocals and the harpsichord and the spot-on guitar and bass... ;)
Much like the Fab Four, you are extremely talented in your own right.
This tribute cover is excellent, beautiful, pitch perfect.
How did you get hold of me bloody harpsichord!!😂😂😁👍👍👍👍💗💞💕
Wow, my favorite of yours yet. Enjoyed the bit showing the frantic repatching of the synth. I watch your stuff (as I do all Beatles covers) looking to find even the smallest miss so I can say "a ha", but amazingly there aren't any. Bravo Andrew.
Spot on!
Beautifully Brilliant.
SO Beautifully. Done. I Have Tears running out of My Eyes Loved This Cover You sung BECAUSE wonderful. Mr Pete La Bella. Siny
I will buy your original music at iTunes to support you. Andrew Lubman, thanks for sharing your talent to the world ... you are really awesome!
Greg Gamba Thanks so much!
Give me a second to pick my jaw up from the floor. Speechless. This is brilliant.
Listen buddy..you've got it spot on!!😊👍👍💗💓
Chillingly like the original. I almost clicked away when I saw this was a cover. SO glad I didn't! That was amazing.
Thank you!
Fantastic job! Your talent is quite remarkable. Thanks for taking what must have been many hours to put this together.
Thank you!
Truly an effort of love. Magnificent. The only thing more amazing was creating it to begin with.
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful.......
This fuels my soul
Parabéns pela perfeição desse cover. Graças ao Sr. Andrew pudemos perceber todas as partes de 'Because'. Foi uma dissecação da música.
Emocionante! Congratulations!
Spectacular! *Also enjoyed the harmony breakdown video. Thank you!
That was just beautiful. Thank you.
ohhhh man you nailed that guitar tone!! sounds just like the record!
WE WANT MORE!! :)
Dimitri Bitu YES
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yeeeeeees, we want more of Andrew Lubman works.
Awesome!
Sheer perfectiion! Well done, Cheers from a CT drummer and musician.
Thanks so much!
Damn you played the hell out of this song and sang it too ! I am overwhelmed with joy!
fantastic cover!!
Thanks for the kind words. As far as the vocal "singularity": yes, of course. Even though I vary the vocal tone I use depending on whose part I'm singing, I'm still physically the same person, so the "singularity" is unavoidable. As far as how they recorded the vocal parts: For this song they recorded their 3-part harmony live to one track, then repeated the process two more times (each one sticking to their own harmony part each time).
Wow! Wow! Wow!!!
Brother you are awesome!
You just picked my day up! Thanks!
Holy S***! How dare you be that perfect? Amazing job buddy! Greetings from Brazil!
This is like "the Holy Cover"
Just awesome!!! Gives me chills up my back. Well done.
MA SEI BRAVISSIMO!!!!!! COMPLIMENTI! God Bless you!!! Because you sing so well you make me cryyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
Awesome fella's, just awesome!
Thanks! (from all of me :)
Gorgeous all the way around. You are amazingly talented.
