The Rogue: Prince Of Persia | New Gameplay Today

- We went nearly 15 years without a wholly new Prince of Persia game after the release of The Forgotten Sands in 2010, but now, in 2024, we will play two brand new Prince of Persia games within six months of one another. The excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown released in January, and today we learn about The Rogue: Prince of Persia, which will be entering early access in May.
The game comes from developer Evil Empire, the co-developer of Dead Cells, and the lineage shows. The game is a 2D platformer roguelike that has a lot in common with Dead Cells, but after spending some hands-on time with the game, it also has its own identity. Join Marcus Stewart and me as I share details about my hands-on experience with the next Prince of Persia.

As a student of Islamic sciences and Persian literature, I can say that this is a great phenomenon
The music of Persian flute and Persian Harp is the admirable point of this game
In the version of lost crown, the appearance of our hero was not Persian, but in this version, she has kept her appearance like an authentic Persian
His long hair and beard and even his earrings are like a Persian man in the petroglyphs of Persepolis.
The petroglyphs of the Achaemenid and Sassanid kings are very magnificent. In the environment of this game, the appearance of our hero is taken from the Achaemenid soldier, and his clothing is taken from the Parthians, especially his headband, which reminds us of the statue of the Parthian prince in the National Museum of Tehran, and his clothing, which is similar to the character The stories of Islamic Persian are like a thousand and one nights
The environment of this part is taken from the central and southern geography of Iran, such as the cities of Yazd, Kerman, and to some extent Shiraz.
There is one issue, that in Kolah Namadi, there are head coverings of many Iranian tribes, it would be much better if there was also a cap on the head of the Persian hero in Prince of Persia versions.
Using the cheetah animal because this animal is important in Iran due to the danger of extinction in this country was really a good thing in this game.

I was planning to write an in depth review which focus on the lore in the lost crown in Turkish. I also think the portrayal of the hero in the lost crown for a prince of persia game was not the best choice. But they wanted to justify them as immortals which are from around the persian empire. We also know that a lot of different etnicities were in the army but I don't know, I wouldn't choose a protagonist with dreadlocks. But the music was fantastic, even Jordan Mechner mentions it by saying this is the most Persian sounding music ever in a Prince of Persia game. Also the locations, scrolls and other lore elements were top notch for a mythology and history enthusiast

sands of time is definitely an iconic look for the prince but I really think the WW outfit became a standard for the prince

Sands of Time and Warrior Within are both iconic looks. I think the WW vest probably gets used more because it fits in more contexts than a shirtless guy in baggy white pants.
Sargon was based on Sands of Time, this guy seems like a mix of the WW vest and a bit of 08 with the red sash and blue headpiece.
Still going through the Lost Crown rn but my goodness is it fantastic all around! This is just icing to the cake and I'm sooooo down for this!
After watching the whole video I'm really digging the visual style.
The soft cell shading with the sketchy character portraits really pop.
That Centaur demon(?) With the red body, but the black attack blasts is a standout.

Playing as the actual Prince again is more than enough reason! What I’ve seen and heard so far makes me so excited! So glad to see the revival of PoP!

This looks fantastic! It's great to see 2 prince of Persia games in 1 year. Warrior Within is still a favourite of mine.
at least Ubi is more creative than milking the same IP every year and AAAA non sense.

Warrior Within definitely seems to be the iconic look for the character, for better or worse.
On this token, I hope the redevelopment of the Prince of Persia sands of time remake is actually good.

Gotta agree the Warrior Within look *is* the more iconic one. It's the one that's included in the Deluxe Edition of Lost Crown.
But also shoutout to the Sands of Time outfit(s) because it's really cool how it changes as you progress through the game, showing how the Prince matures over the course of the game visually.
Man I just want a proper old school prince of persia game like the first 2

@@brandonsclips7741I don't know about other people but for me it's the fact of restarting from zero everytime you die ... Not a fan of that mechanic.
Gameplay looks like dead Cells which is great, however, yeah the art style is not it, yet somehow still looks more Prince Of Persia-Ish than Lost Crown which is good, the main character doesn't look like he's from New Jersey

the most recent 2d prince of percia game of god daym epic, almost perfect. kinda makes a cheaper rougelite look unfaily bad.
Honestly I'm looking forward to Motion Twin's Windblown because THAT'S a rogue that evolves the Dead Cells energy. This one looks slow and that's not a word you associate with Dead Cells gameplay.
The soul of deadcells is definitely in this game and not windblown, I don't think either will touch deadcell's crown but this game actually has developers who worked on deadcells, 0 devs of windblown actually worked on deadcells
@@safesafari4806 That's quite interesting, I had no idea. I was presumptuous in judging based on speed alone but I won't even lie, I'm still gonna play this Prince game. I think I just have Dead Cells on a pedestal that I haven't put any other roguelike on. It's SO good. 😭

this looks like a flash game that I would have played for about 20 seconds before finding something else, 17 years ago
the graphics dont bother me as much as the running animation, what the hell lol the original PoP was known for its animations, this one looks silly when hes running lol

Movement and combat look great, but the art style leaves a bit to be desired. I can't put my finger on it, something feels off.
It's just bland, like a modern budget comic book.

@@deucezulu_22 what history? most PoP fans are fans of the trilogy, those are in the same genre + PoP 2008. That's the main fanbase of the PoP IP.
metroidvania and now rougelike are not, these are not for PoP fans and hence why Lost Crown flopped.

The PoP history that tells you the reason you were able to experience that trilogy, is because they tried new things that were different from the original, that brought in those so-called trilogy fans... Besides, Last Crown received great reviews across the board, but took a massive hit from Ubisoft mishaps, over the last few years with their fan base.
And dude, the remake is still coming on top of that....
