3:00 "It is a very violent album." Hell yes it is, which is why it's awesome. Roger gave Pink Floyd their violent edge. Their albums without him are vastly different. Dave and Rick are great at making soothing, comfortable music. Put all four of them together and you get magic.
I really like the dark feel of this album. It makes me feel anger about what I have done and what other people have done to me. That's just the feeling I get. Can't explain it.
Ben Culture Dogs is definitely the most violent song. Have you seen the legendado video of the Aussie Pink Floyd band playing "Dogs" to video excerpts of the movie The Warriors?
Ben Culture Couldn't agree with this more, although Roger does of course have his soft side. For me Dark Side and Wish You Were Here epitomized that meeting of minds creating magic.
Great album. I go back and forth between Animals and Wish You Were Here as my favorite Pink Floyd album. Sometimes it's Animals and sometimes it's Wish You Were Here. Floyd had one hell of a streak going starting with Meddle and ending with The Wall. The band was at it's best during that period.
My all time favourite album,,and I have heard many! David Gilmore's guitar playing is so totally unique for this album,,i know Roger Waters was the creator but Gilmour took the concept to some other place all together.Genius.
I agree, this is my favorite Floyd album, also....Without Syd Barrett having to leave and David Gilmour coming in to play guitar, Pink Floyd would have gotten nowhere. It is Dave who gave them their unique sound and was just as mich, if not more Pink Floyd then Roger Waters was.
After all my years of following PF and mainly RW.... best concert in my life so far was PF live in Rotterdam in the 90s... saw RW in London 2018 in Hyde Park London.... i just know we have pure, undiluted GENIUS on our hands.... thank you SO MUCH for delivering this audio fragment to us normal people. I salute you!!!!! Roger for EVER
I was there in Rotterdam de kuip for the division bell tour, got let down by a couple of lads who were giving it it the ol’ yeah deffo coming,in the end I fucked off on my own,met some top lads from Oldham on the coach, and had a proper laugh, what a night that was in the stadium, hazy as hell after 2 days of non stop spliffs and I think the driver was stoned off the fumes, there’s no way he couldn’t have been! 😂
None of the albums you mentioned seem overrated to me. But yes, Animals is one of the most underrated albums ever made. It is defiantly very overlooked. The funny thing is, it's actually the first Pink Floyd album I ever heard of.
@@allsystemsgo8678 For one thing, I think Animals gets overlooked because of it's sound quality and production. I mean, the sound quality is worse than the Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here and the production is just sloppier; it just doesn't seem the group put in as much care into this album as TDSOTM or WYWH. Furthermore, Animals isn't as focused as TDSOTM or WYWH. I mean, with three songs over 10 minutes each (with one of those songs being 17 minutes), it's indicative of a group that wasn't sure exactly where it was going with each song, hence, they resort to jamming. I will say, though, that the new remix has made the album a better listen.
Because of for example a drunkin goof ball fan climbing up over whatever there is to climb over to be closer to the stage not listening to the music just getting fucked up and acting like an idiot
I know, I caught that too. I wonder if that stuck in Roger's head and he referenced that particular moment of this interview for that line of "In The Flesh?"
Music History is the thing about how Animals as an album was and still considered by critics as a unique art work ,for me it’s a music phenomenal album creation in music history Great album 👌 👍
The way Roger talks about the album cover at the beginning is incredibly ominous to me. The way he talks about the doomy, "inhuman" feel of it and the way he finds the idea of power to be appealing. He sounds like he's intoxicated by the image. I can see why. It's a truly striking, disturbing album sleeve......
It is! I'm a huge fan and he is kind enough to converse with me regularly. Always a straight talking, decent guy who isn't fazed by playing with such legends.
IIRC Gilmour didn't write any of the songs and doesn't like to play them...I guess all part of the tension between Roger and the band. Saw them in the 90's and was disappointed to see the big inflatable pigs but no music from the record.
i always assumed there was a collaboration on all but Pigs/Wing on that record. Just Dogs...but then, never stopped Dear Ol Dave and his 20 piece assemble called "Pink Floyd" from playing other pieces which didn't bare Gilmour's name in the credits. W/e...who cares...lol
Gilmour wrote most of the music to "Dogs", previously known as "You Gotta Be Crazy". Waters of course wrote the lyrics. Check out the credits on the album for confirmation.
Battersea Power Station looks like a dead sheep, lying on his back, with his legs in the air. Am I the only one to see that? I always thought that was Roger's intent.
"The last tour was absolutely appauling. This one's going to be much better." The tour: "DON'T THROW ANYMORE FUCKING FIREWORKS, ALRIGHT?! ...COME HERE, SON. ALL IS FORGIVEN!" *spits on fan*
How is the flying pig between the chimneys a symbol of hope? We aren’t expressing hope when we say, “when pigs fly”. The pig is the villain in Animal Farm. Roger, how lost were you in this interview?
I actually like this album, very much. It's great Pink Floyd, I think Roger was on to something, and this album scared me when I was tripping on acid one time. I got into the lyrics and understood what it was about. I felt depressed and frightened at the same time. Powerful Album when on LSD, give it a try and see.

Whitehouse was against pornography? Why would you criticize anyone for that, Roger? Have you grown up from that yet? Have you realized why you kept throwing that line away?
Hello. I would say it's because it's not her place to decide if it should exist or not. To be honest I know very little about Whitehouse or what she stood for, but it sounds like she was one of those who feels that she gets to decide what's moral and proper for everybody. I very much doubt Roger is big into porn, but he does support people having freedom to decide for themselves as they should. So bring on the porn I say!
None. They actually stopped doing drugs before they created The Dark Side Of The Moon. Fun fact: David stopped smoking completely as soon as he heard his coughing recording at the intro of the title track Wish You Were Here.
@robloxcoolboy4724 Indeed they did. Watch some of the Wall live videos. Dave's eyes were nothing but pupils. Also, not sure about Roger and coke, but in the 80's solo era his look is exactly what I picture when I think of a guy that does a lot of coke.
i listen to this almost every day sometimes more than once a day… i’m so in love with his voice and omg bless the mic sensitivity 😍

exaCTLY
Same dude. I grew up with a tape that had Animals on the A side and Wish You Were Here on the B side. I didn’t even know what band I was listening to.
The 70’s were definitely their best decade
My 2 favourite Floyd records too. I don't think we're alone.
"This tour's going to be much better." :-D If it had gone well, we might never have gotten The Wall.

why didn't they film this tour ?!!!!! such a loss to history...
true
Thank you. Seeing them in 77 was the time of my life.
The Floyd were strict about photo's and film even then...
Other times, the 70's were the greatest footage loss in the history of music, so many incredible bands who avoided to be caught on camera live.
My fave Floyd album!
Animals is a great album. I love it.
Me to. Everyone talks about Darkside, Wish you were here, and The Wall. They're all great discs, but Animals seems to get overlooked.

Have you got the rest of the broadcast?
This is a Guitar Driven (in terms of music) record. Why doesn't Gilmour dip into this record at all while on tour...
IIRC Gilmour didn't write any of the songs and doesn't like to play them...I guess all part of the tension between Roger and the band. Saw them in the 90's and was disappointed to see the big inflatable pigs but no music from the record.

And Sheep was originally " RAVING AND DROOLING" played in concert 1973 . Bootleg album " It's All Over Here Except for the Shouting "
Probably because his voice/singing style doesn't suit it... he's too calm. Doesn't have the anger that Waters brings to it.
Does anyone else hear guitar solo Hotel California playing in the background at the start of this interview?
No. I hear shine on you crazy diamond 6-9

a great record, a great song about pigs!!
why does Roger sound like Syd here
He doesn’t they were both from Cambridge and that’s their accent same as Dave, Rick and Nick.

Because he's baked.
It's obvious.
I would not have done well if I were interviewing RW. At times he sounds a little scatterbrained like Syd & at other times sounds so smug like Roger…

The hope is the pig being able to fly off from the drab and menacing power station, or the dark dismal surroundings of the album's cover.

The pig is hope? love song? Me broken and sad now.
Pigs on the wing is a love song, not Pigs.
Never looked at that song like that before. Brilliant. Thanks.
