- Contents: An interview with David Gilmour during the About Face tour.
Interviewer not shown, but sounds like Jim Ladd's voice.
David discusses Pink Floyd, the making of the Final Cut album, and his
solo career.
I am late to the party again, but if you listen, David Gilmour was more than willing to compromise. I have nothing against Roger Waters, he is a conceptual, lyrical master, he just wasn’t willing to compromise, hence here we are! Every member of Pink Floyd made significant contributions to their overall sound and success. The rub comes when we pick sides. We have our opinions, but I think we can all agree Pink Floyd was, is and will always be, the best, most cerebral, emotionally evoking band of all time. I have personally enjoyed all forms of Pink Floyd and each member’s solo career.
Yup! "Is there anything that you don't want to talk about?" David: "Nope. We can talk about anything that you like." THAT is one of the MANY things about David that I love!! He's accommodating, modest, soft spoken, and just pleasant, as well as mega talented ...and gorgeous! 😍😍❤❤
Saw Gilmour About Face Tour 1984 Boston Orpheum. Great show. Did mostly solo songs "awesome" and only 3 Pink Floyd songs. Money, Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb for the encore. Great band with Mick Ralphs "Bad Company" on guitar and Chris Slade "The Firm & AC/DC" on drums among others.
Love this man.
It would have been interesting if we got the version of The Final Cut with Gilmour's ideas added to it.
The background looks like he’s in a prison cell 😂
It looks like the cells in Walton jail liverpool from back in the 80s ironically enough lol
@@Eleventhearlofmars So you rock and roll rebels have been in the joint huh? LOL.
He is back stage at a venue before a gig, probably before a sound check, you can hear the drum tech tuning up the drums in the background. The back sections of arenas are very stark and industrial.
Great my friend! Amazing! Thank you so much! A big Like for you! 👍👍😉
Always the diplomat! ♥
Beautiful mouth 😍
And everything else too!! Yummy!!
It's weird because they hadn't actually split as a band at this stage.
He was still with Ginger too. Sad what time does.
Pink Gilmour
Muito lindo !
Haja beleza !
Even all coked out, he still makes my eyes burn.
He's not on coke here
I think she was
I'd say he's coked up
@@AlBunky wouldn't he be bouncing around and talking fast if he were coked up? Dilated pupils?
@@tonypoore440 Nah man don't you know? It was the 80's so OBVIOUSLY everyone was on it 24/7.
Lmao
10:30 comes up with MLOR title
Mr gilmour is a fender master if you don't think so too bad for you it that clear !!!!😎
9:43 Despite their differences, David was still open to continuing to work with Roger. Unfortunately, Waters never got over it...
Very simple , two genius in one band not working.
I love Dave and Roger........but his "depressing " aspect is part of that time. People watching this today will never know what happened back "then" .....whatever time period
Sounds like Gilmour was totally willing to keep working with waters at the time. Over the years, seems like that flipped.
I would love to know who the interviewer was? I'm thinking this could be Claude Rajotte. But I am not sure.
It's not.
I think he is on coke in this one
They _all_ were.
Very telling comment at 10:10 or so "“Everyone goes through periods of varying rationality during their lives and I think that Roger’s had a moment of
rather irrational thinking at that period of time and maybe he’ll get over it. Maybe he’s over it already, who knows?” A momentary lapse of reason, perhaps? :)
Bingo!
Sadly, it’s 2021 and Angry Bird Waters is still not over it 🙄
Total class in every sense...
I met him in the foyer at Hammersmith Odeon at a Steely Dan gig!

He is so gorgeous
Oh my God... hes so gorgeous... i really loooove him... even today hes so so beautiful!
I am a straight guy but look at the part from 2:08 til 2:29 he is so fucking handsome and kind !
I TOTALLY agree. I'm obsessed. His speaking is as calming as his singing voice. I adore him! Today too, just like you.
I've heard plenty of girls say it's his eyebrows and more inpoantaly; his lips.
I always though that around 1978 Dave started to look like he worked as a mortician at a haunted graveyard.
it's crazy what some people like, at one point for 5 minutes in 1968 teen girls loved Tiny Tim and referred to him as cute.
WHAT⁉️⁉️⁉️
@@KeizerHedorah
Later, the US Supreme Court would ask Roger Waters, and also ask David Gilmour and the other band-members: _Which one's Pink?_
David admits his album is about murder, death, Thatcher, and being blown up in nuclear war -- sounds just like Roger! Thanks for uploading. Pink Floyd is my favorite. Big fan of the entire band, especially Roger/David - the most complementary duo in rock.
In the early 1980s nuclear annihilation was en vogue in popular culture, so Gilmour is following contemporary trends, but he was never a words man like Waters, and that is why they made such a good partnership. Waters had concepts, and Gilmour could make them musically listenable.
@@semperterra3235 - Ya _don't say..._
He’s so beautiful...
he looks a lot like Robert Palmer in this video
Still modern today, I will never stop listening to it.
*_Let’s Get Metaphysical_* *from is second solo album is an instrumental masterpiece.* I love that track. Great '80s Gilmour.
Dave is my favorite guitarist.
Here’s hoping he makes it to 4 score and beyond. Cheers David.
Good assessment of The Final Cut, I don't like it much at all.
Am a David Gilmore fan for over 50 years. Keep the songs coming.
🎼🎶🎶🎸
Hopefully not 50 years of spelling it as GilMORE.

@Laika, GILMOUR.

….and what a magnificent whistle!!😙❤️
It's because of those magnificent lips! ......."Why ca't I get..just one kiss........" VF
David speaking French is an aphrodisiac!
David is like the masters in t he 16th century. very talented man. I think he likes the blow! ha ha yeah; drugs go with rock and roll - Nick Mason said it.
This interviewer is just getting on my nerves...And DG is probably really tired of his shit as well...Might as well have done this in French....Jeff Porcaro was/is still a bad muther!!You need ask why did he hire him?Are you for real dude? Why is the sun Hot?Why does the phone ring while you're in the tub?Go interview Justin Beiber!!
I saw the about-face tour and Syracuse New York at the Landmark Theater! Remarkable show!
Lucky bassterd.
Just kidding.
I saw that incredible show in San Antonio TX.. at the Magnetic Theater... No words can't describe such master performance
THE God.
Gilmour here sort of reminds me visually of a former Red Sox catcher, Carlton Fisk
Something tells me he really hates these interviews. Its the same questions over& over.looks like he might want to scream& swear, but hes holding it in.
And I'm sure that he is sick of interviewers always asking questions about Syd Barrett!
I wish they had postponed The Final Cut entirely until tensions cooled off, instead we missed out on getting at least 3 more albums with the Waters/Gilmour influence due to one year of clashing egos.
Their egos had been "clashing" for more than one year, more like 6 or 7 by the time Roger left and it wasn't just between those 2, Roger had issues with literally everyone.
@@KeizerHedorahRoger has issues period very narcissistic he rants against dictators yet he is a dictator basically everything has to go his way than again he is communist so he thinks it’s ok for himself to have money but you can’t
Nope
Err...sucks when 2 insanely talented artists can no longer go on as a thriving comradery lol. I know that's selfish, but damn...lol! Those two brought 100% to the table, equally. Sad that it couldn't last.
the spontaneous adorable whistling at 11:00. lol
Back in 70s and 80s Pink Floyd is the best band ever
London England GOD
This is like a police interrogation
I still think it was a real shame that the credits to The Final Cut read, by Roger Waters with music by Pink Floyd.
David is beautiful even after having dad's body!! How is that even possible?!😶
One of charismatic figure in my life
Agreed

Bon souvenir le spectacle a Montreal en 84.
Je n avais jamais vu l entrevue de Gilmoore.
j'aurai ce spectacle bientôt..... i will have that show coming soon
Merci Nelson. Cet concert etait David Gilmour solo? Ou a-t-il jouer Montreal?
I taped this on vhs cassette back in 1984 from his solo date in Montreal,on Radio Video cable show!😀Loved About Face!
The Gunner's Dream, The Final Cut and.... has to be between Your Possible Pasts and Paranoid Eyes, no?
it is the gunners dream, the Final Cut and the Fletcher Memorial , those 3 songs. I don't understand why YPP isn't on it, the guitar solo is awesome
Some questions are way too long haha! But David’s cool so that’s ok :)
David falou que o Final Cut tem uns 3 solos bons e o resto é tudo fraco 😅😅😅
Tmbm acho.
Not now jhon, e outras duas q to com preguiça de conferir o nome.
gunner, fletcher, final cut THOSE 3 SONGS is what Dave is talking about
It wasn't Jim Ladd,it seemed to be Marc Carpentier.
Yes you can hear someone say "excuse me Marc we need to change the cartridge.."
I find crazy diamond very uplifting
Apparently The Final Cut was the last straw....
Thanks!
The Final Cut should have been a Roger Waters solo album.
Yes i would agree with that
He's absolutely correct about The Final Cut. It's a dreary, pathetic Roger Waters whine fest. Only partly saved by some brilliant David Gilmour guitar playing on a few tracks. The rest is all throw away stuff.
But damn, the good is real good “night after night, going round and round my brain....his dream is driving me insaneeeee!”
@@profsteel8217 in the corner of some foreign field the gunner sleeps tonight
I believe David got tired of Roger's anger music ,
Roger had no place in the music David produced after Roger fired himself ,
What are the three songs :(
gunners dream, fletcher memorial and the final cut
I got my quote from the pink floyd book a saucer full of secrets. There dave mentions my 3 songs
Your whistling is beautifully clear you need to include it in you're songs
Your*
*Your songs, and there’s some songs that do include whistling (I.e, “In Any Tongue”)
@@veronicarebora-arnoldt2546 - 1) I've always loved the name Veronica...
2) In Any Tongue is one of my all time favorite songs....definitely including the beautiful whistling, but especially that incredible solo that is the second half of the song! Wow!!!
Synergy cannot be replicated or duplicated. Roger definitely has the vision to create illustrative concepts and story lines with a very distinctive style but let's face the fact that Dave is the superior musician and has the ability to work coherently with Nick and Rick, or anyone else with other bands to create unmatched arrangements which utilizes multiple genres of music and styles. Each 1 of his solo albums have a very distinct ambience or feeling. Sorry but Roger seems bitter, cold and lacks empathy in his older years. Whether you love Floyd in it's original formation with Syd at the wheel or when Dave was brought in shortly thereafter. We can all agree their prodigious catalogue of music will never be surpassed. Add Nick's hypnotic drum style and Rick's ethereal soundscapes, music, reality and limits begin to blur to an endless possibility of beauty, madness and slight optimism. Regardless of the lame arguments over Dave vs. Rog, I adore Pink Floyd in all their glorious incarnations. Born in 71, listening to them even before I was born.
Love how he gives Winwood props! He’s my favorite keyboard player
David is the total opposite of Roger Waters far more down to earth Waters is genius but very egotistical
It’s ashame that as much as roger waters was an amazing innovator of concept albums and lyrical genius, he’s also a despot and a megalomaniac and always will be. I don’t blame Gilmour for not wanting to do a pink Floyd reunion tour or have Roger waters have access to the pink Floyd website, Roger was the one who tried to destroy that for the other members, and I suspect that Gilmour knows the way waters work and just doesn’t need the headache or hassle at this stage of his life. Grateful for all that we got from pink Floyd though!!
I did a lot of Coke in my day, and I never sounded or looked like this! I would talk VERY fast and nervously and smoke one cigarette after another, on a few occasions more than one at a time! Maybe David speaks even slower in other interviews, but he seems very collected and thoughtful here, if not a bit annoyed. If it's true that there is a kind of hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way to David's responses here, that would make sense....more or less the same questions. Whenever I have heard him speak, he seemed very patient. It is not an enthralling interview, but I think its slow and Almost Boring Pace allows David to maintain his Focus and expand on his thoughts, as best as possible. He always seems to be a very measured fellow conversationally. I don't think I've ever heard him sound spontaneous and off-the-cuff. So I'm not sure he's coked-up, although some of you here seem to think he is. Why? Other than the fact that perhaps he liked Coke and surely was able to afford it! That's probably why I didn't have a heart explosion during the 80s...because I couldn't afford enough cocaine to do that! I tried my best, though!!!
If anything, he sounds like he's jet-lagged and maybe has had a beer or three.
We all shine our own way together it makes the music .a Roger please get that we miss you .and David please make a wisteling song with your playing ."never to late" love you, thanks
Do another Floyd album dammit
Completely and entirely impossible
Syd is dead
Rick is dead
Nick is doing his own things
And there's no way Roger and David are reuniting
What album was he taking about
About Face(s), don't remember if there is an 's' or not...
Anyway, if you love Gilmour's work, you will like that album
PINK FLOYD THE WALL
GOD/ Geffen
Roger Waters Should watch this video David and Roger were so great together and needed each other.Neither was able to do it on their own
Sadly the Live 8 gig was probably the last time we'll see them play together. At least they were able to do it before Richard RIP passed....
paul yoda but when they did work together awesome
I do not agree.
I love Gilmour's heart...but I love Water's head. Roger's ideology is pure! Fuck them when they said Roger is socialist, communist, supporting terrorist. They just don't understand.
David proved that wrong!! He would have been a Rockstar in any top band!! Roger was a jealous, controlling, greedy freak with a chip on his shoulder. He couldn't sing, played a bit of base but big deal, he wrote songs about hating anyone successful in the World because his dad was killed in the war. Do you think with David's perfect looks, vocals and guitar jam's, Roger could easily replace him? No!
Roger was cruel to Richard & looked at people's talent as money in his pocket!! David has a heart, when he walked on stage, that's when the fans went wild! ❤️David Gilmour IS Pink Floyd!! I saw David with PF in '94, a sold out show, 85,000+ with No advertising. Tampa FL Football Stadium. Old crooked teeth RW wasn't missed!!! Best Ever🎶🎸

Gilmour is a talented guitar player. But one that's been adequately replaced time and again on all Waters many solo releases. Theyre fantastic and Final Cut was also. Whereas Momentary Lapse is just OK and Division Bell is so hackneyed and self plagarizing that it's unlistenable. The Rivers short and dull elevator muzak. That's what Gilmour "produced" without Waters. Diddlysquat
It's all a matter of perspective.
He’s right about Waters always ranting and complaining (and invading other people’s works) 🤦♀️
