Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
Let’s gooo, you have been so consistent I’m loving it bro. Hands down favorite UA-camr. You SAVED MY LIFE 4 years ago Mike. I was a gang banging drug addict at the age of 19 and I was so depressed but you made me realize my long lost love of fishing and now I hope to save peoples lives to show them there are safe, fun things to do that won’t ruin your life
Some people are gonna call me weird because “you don’t even know that man” but they don’t realize how much some people can impact others by videos or music nowadays
I always try to be a positive influence and encourage/inspire others to enjoy the great outdoors!! Comments like yours inspire me the MOST! Thanks for sharing your story, and I’m glad you’re still here with us 🎣👊
To me this be some of your best videos. Just you and nature. Enjoy watching you break down a spot and find fish. 1 rod 1 reel 1 spinnerbait lol. Awesome vid as always. Stay blessed!
I like the background narrative at the intro, especially the cost. One of our local water bodies is being lowered to approx 87% for dam repairs and shoreline beach for the 4th of July fireworks.
"Thats a big fish" and thats considered a pretty little pike! You should try catching big ones haha, they're so fun. Also that last fish was a gar, notoriously hard to hook because of their bony mouths - don't feel bad about losing that one, thats usually what happens
In Dahlgren VA about a year and a half ago, they drained this pond where my brothers and my dad would catch crappie, now it’s harder to catch crappie because the other spot that I fish has rarely any crappie.
When a popular youtuber keeps it old school and doesn't change up what we love coming back for! You've been going hard bro! We all loving your adventurous spirit! And keep it up bro! 👊🎣👍💪😎😄🏞💯🔥🤙
You can't go wrong w ultra light gear, maybe a longer rod for longer casts, sz. 14 treble hooks, small weights and power bait. Depending on the conditions, you can also use small/trout worms blown up w a syringe, and either a marshmallow or foam power-bait topper in either white, chartreuse, or orange - whichtever colors are working - depends on time of year and time of day, and other conditions! I'd also try small shiners or minnows. One of my faves is going to Petsmart and getting their feeder fish aka Rosy Reds(?). They're around .19 cents, and they'll also catch other fish.
Mike is an amazing professional rookie. The excitement of a noob with every hook up and countless lessons of what not to do. Truly fantastic entertainment with a side of booger POV
@1Rod1ReelFishing I'm a kid that fishes eastern Montana alot, if you wanna catch pike your retrieval has to be a consistent pattern. They have poor eyesight, so if they hit it and drop it let your bait sink, the fish will circle back in a second to pick it up.
@1Rod1ReelFishing that would be awesome but I live in New Mexico not much out here.. but will stay hopeful and keep fingers crossed haha!!! Thank you for answering made my week bro!!!!
whenever something is drained always take the time to explore. so you can see exactly whats on the bottom. might consider sticking some structure down there before they refill it :P
It's my understanding that they're just dredging the areas around the boat ramps, but doing it the hard way... with bulldozers, hence the draining. They won't take it all the way down.
Yeah man, fished there a week ago. A WSSC employee told me the dredging will last at least till October. I pulled a few LMB from the SW bank. I'll have to try further up north to see if I can land a snot-rocket.
@@1Rod1ReelFishingEvery time I watch your videos I get the itch to fish as well. Have a handful of city ponds in Plano, TX I like to hit. Always manage to pull some largemouth bass and a bullfrog every now and then on a frog. Getting so hot lately the bite just doesn’t start until the sun dips and temps cool a bit…if you can call 85 degrees cooling off. Lol
Love the vids man! Would be awesome if you could fish loch raven reservoir sometime soon. I’m like 20 mins away from there I gotta stop by and fish it soon. So hyped for summer fishing. As always tho keep puttin out bangers 1rod ❤
I started out catching bass, but after catching a pike and realizing the sheer power they have not only do they give you a fight the entire time they aren’t as easily caught as bass are. Target Pike more…anything over 3 pounds is extremely fun to fight with.
Mike!! I literally bought a rod and reel just to hopefully join your fishing challenge. I live in Maryland and have been teaching myself how to fish certain lures. I’d love to just learn from the experience! Need real fisherman tips !!!!
They did a similar thing to a lake here in PA not long ago to fix the damn. They also used it as a way to clear out the number of fish in the lake as well. Also I think there was a time wssc didn't care about people fishing.
@@1Rod1ReelFishing Website says it will be back to normal in October. Doing work on the dam...again. We could do a carp challenge there instead of Loch Raven ;)
I love the Gold Series rods they're awesome I even like the green series rods I haven't tried the Black Series rods yet the karlsbaitandtackle hasn't had two Gold Series baitcasting reels in yet
Huh draining it again? Dang it next good weather day I need to get my drone up in the air for a long range waypoint mission. They had drained it for like 2 years just a year or two ago and when they let it fill back up I assumed they were done with the maintenance they were doing to the dam. Right up the road at the golf course you somehow get permission to fish, they have been draining the ponds to water the gold course. The one right next to 97 is over half empty if not more.
I’m not criticizing, I’m new to fishing and trying to put myself in your shoes to learn. Could the dramatic way you’re setting and leaning into the hookset like they are all 10 pounders be a factor for losing them? Especially when they are smaller guys? Or would that not matter once the hook is set either way? It happens to me a lot some days and I still haven’t cracked it. Great video like always 1Rod.
Nice pike and you gotta love that walleye but you definitely gotta work on your RELEASES and take pliers and snap a cord so it hangs near you cus you take quite long to release them. It great fishing. I can’t be mad all the time. Just your handling has gotten a lot better but needs some more tweeking
Who else has been exploring new 🎣 spots recently?! 😎👊
Me!!! I love your vids man keep up the good work ❤
I started my YT Channel because of you!!
Ive been going to lots of new spots lately, good to have several spots to fish

Nice multi species episode Mike!!! That pike was pretty cool looking....Great vid !!!!

I need some advice, I’m trying to catch trout at a lake with a very shallow, weedy, and grassy bottom. What would be best for this
Topwater frog, chatterbait, googan wake banger, weightless lunker log Texas rigged

11:27 that’s a walleye, they taste really good and are relatively easy to catch
Just got pulled around by a 19 inch bass while I was on a kayak. Small mouth bass

Always try to catch a biggun, but still appreciate every fish that’ll bite your line 🎣👊
@@1Rod1ReelFishing although that pike was a tank
Lots of manually drained lakes out there. California reservoirs are full.
Man get a compact foldable net, pikes can be a pain w/o✌️. Thats what im rocking. Good for makeshift livewell if needed also.

Nice to see you catching pike!! As Nick The Piker I appreciate this video!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
what is the best way to setup a rod that’ll help catch more fish?
You said dinner and he said heck no! Lol

I wonder how long the reservoir will be drawn down for…
