Yup, Jaws is an incredible attraction! Man, 90s USF with the 1993 version of Jaws, Kongfrontation and Nickelodeon Studios was the place to be! Besides the skippers and of course the effects, what pulled Jaws all together was the musical magic of John Williams. During the filming of the first movie, contrary to Steven's suggestion to have a sweeping, more-romantic score, John decided to play a two-note theme at the piano. "Ha, you've got it," Steven laughed. He thought it was a joke. John quickly explained it wasn't. The most powerful thing, John said, was the simplest idea. The two notes, which could be played in many ways by the orchestra, represented the danger even when the film wouldn't show the shark. Instead of Steven's suggestion of something tuneful to smooth out the edits in the film, John's score was "primal" and heightened or created the tension. John also said "When we do see the shark, we won't score him, so the audience doesn't see it coming." And of course, thanks to that iconic theme, it was the first film for which Williams would win the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Fun fact: The Jaws movie was filmed in Martha's Vineyard, however the novel itself doesn't take place in New England. In the novel, Amity Island is meant to be part of New York, located off the south shore of Long Island in the Hamptons. And the novel was inspired by 1916 shark attacks that happened on the Jersey Shore! Martha's Vineyard was chosen instead of eastern Long Island because they wanted a vacation area that was lower middle class enough so that an appearance of a shark would destroy the tourist business, and Martha's Vineyard's surrounding shore had a sandy bottom that never dropped below 35 feet for 12 miles out from shore, which allowed the mechanical sharks to operate while also beyond sight of land.
I agree about Bowser’s challenge. I’ve heard others even say that it’s kind of a one and done ride the more you ride the more boring it gets because it’s all about gameplay. It reminds me of villain con. Also this is part of the reason why I’m not thrilled about the early access rides at Eapic. To me you basically got donkey Kong’s ride and Stardust racers. Who wants to go on the people mover when a park first opens?
It might be a Japan thing, because when i went to the two big Japan theme parks (Disneyland/Sea and USJ), theres barely any fast coasters, and rides copied over from other parks are way slower
I only ever got to ride Jaws twice in my life, but I'm so glad I got to experience it. I really really miss rides that feature TM's as key characters. Those are my absolute favorite genre of big theme park ride.
I want to say I love your videos and I still tear up thinking about your Japan video Universal video... it was awesome. I miss Jaws too, but I think Universal did an awesome job with the Harry Potter. Maybe Universal Studios can make another "Jaws" movie and based on the success of the movie, they can build something else around Jaws!
The most interesting thing about the Hogwarts Express at Universal is it's a cable railway! It was manufactured by the Doppelmayr/Garaventa Group, a group known for their ropeways and people movers for ski areas, urban transport, amusement parks, and material handling systems. It's a single-track with a two-track passing loop at the midpoint. It is 676 meters (2,218 ft) long and has a track gauge of 1,800 mm (classified as broad gauge). On the track, there is a haul rope and a counter rope, each with a diameter of 46 millimeters (1.8 inches). The cable winding motor is at King's Cross station and has a rated load of 215 kilowatts (300 hp) and a peak power rating of 636 kilowatts (900 hp). The locomotive on the 70-meter-long (230 ft) trains weigh 13 metric tons (29,000 pounds). Because movement of the trains is controlled by cable from a one engine house, they depart and arrive at the end stations at the same time and always reach the halfway point at the same time. The cable moves at the speed of 3.4 meters per second. The train at Universal is a replica, but in the movies, they used the actual steam locomotive GWR Hall class 5972 Olton Hall, originally built in April 1937. Naming the engine Hogwarts Castle for the movies became a railway preservation joke, "the Hall that thinks it's a Castle." The GWR Castle Class engines were larger, faster locomotives designed for prestigious express passenger duties, while the Halls were a mixed-traffic design I agree about Volcano Bay, while yes, it started out rough, they learned from their mistakes and made it the best water park possible. The theming is a big upgrade compared to the Wet 'n Wild park that it replaced (whose site is now Universal's Endless Summer). As pricey as it is for renting a cabana for the day, it looks worth it to me if they give you a special kiosk, locker, and service! Kia ora literally translates to “Be healthy” in Māori, and it’s their way of wishing the essence of life upon someone. The Māori are an amazing people with intimidating pride. If you ever watch a Māori war dance aka a haka, it’ll give you goosebumps. Doesn’t take long to see why they’re so proud of their over 700-year history in New Zealand. Fast & Furious is a much bigger franchise in China, so Fast & Furious very much deserves a better ride to represent it in Beijing. The queue is cool, I'll give em that, but yeah...it's just a party bus with screens. Also, for Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, entering an attraction through Bowser's Castle and then climbing up that staircase to a big Bowser statue... now THAT is a ride entrance.
Most of the rides at Universal are films from other studios. Jaws is still an iconic and timeless film that boosted the company in the 70s. Crazy that Jaws does not have an attraction there
I don't know why people hate Rip Ride Rockit. I think it's one of the best rides in the park and idk how you can call it rough when Hulk is right there. I get concussion everytime I ride the hulk
@ Eh I dont rlly mind that they deleted alot of the songs they still have Humble and that one electronica song. Also there's a whole secret menu with alot of songs. The coaster itself is still really good for me
I liked Bowsers challenge at Hollywood, the queue was great and the theming within the ride was also good. It kinda just depends on what rides you like I guess.
I enjoyed the ride a lot more after I got to do it a couple times, but I think people are only going to ride it once and leave confused. Kinda like Millennium Falcon
Yeah I think it's funny that Universal refers to Volcano Bay as their 3rd theme park. Disney doesn't include their 2 water parks as theme parks. So when I want to say it's been 25 years since they opened a new theme park I have to clarify and say it's been 25 years since they opened a dry park.😊
While I could see why people would hate bowsers challenge keep in mind the ride is about its tech more than its thrill and I think it’s family friendly because of Nintendo.
I think Mario Kart is an amazing darkride. People I feel just kept saying "Oh it's needs to be thrilling and fast", but at the end of the day, It does it's job, the ride is more means to immerse you into the interactive world of Mario Kart, rather than just be a generics coaster with Mario slapped onto it. Yea ig it could've been an indoor coaster, but even then... these are video games... they're interactive... they're also pointed towards children. It's one of the best darkrides of the recent years, and I'll say that strongly. People just get butthurt when they manage their expectations poorly.
Good list. Maybe more a list of rides with "dashed expectations" A personal list I have is rides that I have increased AND decreased love for Forbidden Journey, Gringotts, Transformers. I gave them an "A" initially -- but now only a "B" ET, MIB. I gave them a "C" initially -- but now up to a "B" PS: The drop for Potter rides is mostly the significant dullness/fuzziness of animations and "jerkiness" of ride vehicle PPS: Yes, that means that (for me) all my favorite rides at USF are now at "B" level (except Mummy - A).
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the whole back to the future/simpons controversy (to set the record straight for all who will attack me yes the simpons is better than back to the future)
I am hoping that their "Night Time Experience" at Volcano Bay happens during Passholder Previews for Epic Universe... if so, I am booking my airline ticket...ASAP!
Surprised the Villain-Con ride isn't on here since from what I've read, that ride is just awful. You just stand on a conveyor belt and shoot at onscreen targets the entire time.
Mario Kart is a bummer. I appreciate the ambition, but I think they went too far and the ride is a jumbled mess of ideas. Disney has plenty of fast and exciting rides that little kids can enjoy (radiator springs is the obvious first thought) especially when they already made a companion ride for little kids (Yoshi). They had the IP of a lifetime for an amazing ride idea and fumbled it. The ride is by no means bad, but it’s just underwhelming, especially when you see what they accomplished with the rest of the land.
Mariokart is a fumble for me 😕 It should've been a slot car style coaster attraction. It's okay though, i'll get my concept art out there and get Universal working on it for their last park next to Epic Universe 👀

They should bring back Jaws

Great content as always

I love rip ride rocket, but I get a headache almost every time I go on it😵💫
This is so true
I love rip ride rockit but I really hate they delete a lot of songs wth
All the brakes + issues w song licensing broke the concept

I had no idea about the OG volcano bay queue experience!!
It was rough...but quickly corrected. Park stayed busy for a long time tho

My biggest issue with it is how cheap the AR feels
@WWJimbo I mean, AR tech is still very experimental. It ain't cheap that's for sure. Have you seen it in person?
@@broformers6433Yes, the USJ version especially has really shaky AR

I have a grude with RRR because it's introduction to the park really felt like a strong the shift away from the theme, 'Ride the Movies'.
They need to bring back jaws and water world! PERIOD!
Incorrect
They both were amazing. Wish they'd redo Jaws with better tech.
they should speed it up once epic universe opens
I hope so
I will continue to contend that jaws was the best attraction universal has ever created.
11:07 that’s me operating
I really liked the Skull Island Reign of Kong ride
I actually like the 3-D version. Maybe I am by myself in this.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the whole back to the future/simpons controversy (to set the record straight for all who will attack me yes the simpons is better than back to the future)
im going in march and im trying ride all of them
I am hoping that their "Night Time Experience" at Volcano Bay happens during Passholder Previews for Epic Universe... if so, I am booking my airline ticket...ASAP!
Theres no way i would choose jaws over diagon alley are you serious? Diagon is incredible! And im not even a big Harry Potter fan
I wonder how The Simpsons Ride fit into all this, especially since it replaced BTTF the Ride.
Cat in the Hat is very controversial.
But he isn’t the worst at Universal.
W he posted

I think Escape from Gringotts would work perfectly if they got some glasses-free 3D tech in there
Someday perhaps

Did bro do the George Lopez WACHAA in the intro? Lmao
I threw up on the transformers ride. does that make it controversial?
