We decided we can’t live without a Pyre, so we have a new puppy coming in the spring of 25. It has been such a long time between having a puppy that I was glad to come across your video. He also as a puppy layed on the floor to eat.hes an incredible dog.you will love having him as a companion.😊

I love your approach. We live in the “boonies” and dogs are dumped out here all the time. A month ago, a neighbor found “Buddy” tick infested and half starved about a mile from any home half-way up a rock face. She rescued him and we have taken him into our little pack which had dwindled down (due to old age) to a Husky/Shep mix and a little mutt. He appears to be about 1 year old by the size of his “ball bearings.” Buddy has become an absolutely beloved member of our family but as I had researched, even more independent than Huskies we have owned in the past. The few times he has got out the get when someone was coming in, he headed off but if I send my other dogs after him, he follows them back. I’ve tried walking him with a collar (just refused to move and chewed the leash) and now with a harness and lead rope. It has been a struggle. My other dogs are both great off-leash. (Both are also horse dogs) Any chance a GP can ever learn to be happy “on a walk?” or ever graduate to off-leash walks. I know he will never make a horse dog and he gets really upset if I take my other two dogs off with my on a ride, so I’ve just been leaving them ALL home and riding alone which I don’t like? Any advice?? Love your videos! And thanks in advance 😊
Try riding your horse on your property and try keeping him with you when your riding it will take time it may work .GP's are thinkers and use their own minds to do what they think is best not always what we think is best lol
My 18 mo old walks on a leash but as soon as some engages is( usually complementing him) and then my boy growls and acts aggressive. If someone passes and says nothing he's fine and calm. What should I do?
I had to laugh when you helped the pup up on the couch. I have a couple border collies now almost 3 years old. One of them is able to leap over a 5' fence in a single bound like Super Dog. The other does not. When they were younger I was taking them to town with me. It was their first car ride when they weren't in a crate. The non-jumper hopped into the car. Super Dog managed to get her front paws in on the floor but was hesitating. I tried coaxing her in but it wasn't working. I lifted her back end up and helped her the rest of the way in. To this day she will not jump in the car without assistance. She puts her front feet in and looks over her shoulder at me like she's asking for help. And I help. I hope you don't end up with a 100+ pound dog looking at you for help up on the couch!
Got a great pyr and she is very shy, don’t know what I need to know because she’s very sweet towards our other dog and she’s about 10 weeks old. She always hides from us..
We have brand new Pyranrese puppies. I dont know anything about this breed. They are beautiful but i know they will be quite large. They are about 7 weeks right now. I love dogs but i dont think i can keep 3 pyranrese dogs on top of 3 dogs already. They are so cute tho.
This was very informative... wish i saw it 2 years ago when I first got my great pyrenees. Another reason to follow this advice is great pyrenees puppies grow very big very fast. My girl just turned 2 and weighed in at 123 lbs. She has a knee socket issue. if she jumps and turns too quickly while playing, her knee pops out of the socket, and she won't put weight on it. I've found that it goes back quickly if i massage the joint while moving the lower leg up and down slowly. Then she's fine and back to normal. I wish I had known to limit play in the early months. It may have prevented this problem. Hopefully it will strengthen over time. Do you have any info on joint issues with young pyrs?
My 5 month old Great Pyrenees is a wonderful family member, when she ignores me I use my Mom voice if she doesn’t listen the first time , recall all I have to do is lay down pretend to cry she’ll lay on my chest immediately, . I was wondering about getting her fixed ( not breeding her at all) but heard I should wait till she’s at least 2 so her growth plates are closed any info you might have would be helpful
My husband and I are getting our first GP puppy in a month. I feel very confident about this breed, and this video definitely calmed my nerves a lot! The only concern I have is that we have a 10 lb cat in the house. Though she has no fear of defending herself, I still worry a bit due to the massive size difference…I’m hoping that the stern “no” tactic will be enough to steer him clear of her for the most part until he calms down…I have read that the breed is good for the most part with small animals/children. Should I take any extra precautions? Also, any opinions on training collars on low settings?
What I do when the weather gets hot here my GP's come into the house on and off throughout the day to cool off in the air conditioning or you can give her a kids swimming pool filled with cool water in the shade, they love that.
I had a husband like that. it was a dictatorship. I am so much happier now, I am single, own 11 acres, a nurse, 100 chickens, 2 horses, 3 parrots, and 2 Great Pyrenees. Work hard and 3 vehicles, paid for house, and great paying job. Now don't need a man in my life nor do I want one.
When u go for walks with them, they will heard u like u r a shheep...but I "love" my Pyrenees...I have NEVER lost so much as a chicken . Loving and affectionate...but they do scare the bejeesus out of small car owners becsuse they will run up and look down into the cars at them...🤣🤣🤣
WHen you have a large litter of GP's how do you keep them inside? my pups are 8 weeks old and have only lived outside. they play, they sleep, they play, they sleep :) so cute and fun. I won't be having another litter because they are so much work. I go through a 40 pound bag of food every 3 days between 10 puppies and their parents.
I have a 16 wk Great Pyrenees. He has so much energy and does not listen very well yet. He is very stubborn and has a mind of his own. He play bites a lot. We try to play with him and also give him a lot of toys to keep his mind busy. I know it differs from dog to dog, but is there an age that the GP seems to slow down?
Hello, We are rescuing our first GP puppy. We had a question about brushing/combing. At what age do you recommend using an undercoat rake? Or is it when they get a nice thick coat?
When they have a nice thick coat is when you should use the rake . You can use it anytime but when they are puppies you will need to be careful not to hurt their skin.
We d our puppies Iams puppy large breed but we also added cooked eggs and meat sometimes. Thank you for subscribing. Your wife is going to love the new puppy they are like little polar bears.
I just seen your message. What age was the puppy when you brought her home? A lot of times this happens because puppies were re homed to soon, but don't worry this is an easy fix. It will take a little time and consistency just follow my suggestions on my video it will work I guarantee it will work . Every time she goes to nip tap her on the nose with your finger (not to hard to hurt her) and say a stern no!
So I just got my first Great Pyrenees she is 12 weeks old. My biggest issue that we're having right now is she keeps tipping her water bowl over and spilling it everywhere I have spent her twice for it but I will try the method of tapping her on the nose. Other than that working with her when I'm training her on the word come and sit we're still in the beginning phases I've only had her for a week she is one of my dream dogs her name is Athena. I definitely need help she's teaching me patience all over again but training wise I know has to be different with her than most dogs, but I could use some advice and help and where to go to and I'm glad I watched this video after work do you have any videos for training with a leash and when to start.
Start training with a leach right away. Put a collar on not a harness. First time just put it on if she freaks out , take it off, and wait a few minutes and try again if not go for a short walk and take it off Some GP's take to a leash right away and some will take a lot of time. When you have any success make sure you praise her lots they respond to praise more then anything else, they are not food driven. If you have a GP you will have to have patients lots of them because they are a thinking dog ...this will pay off in the end.. Everyone should know that each GP has its own personality.
@laydenhollowhomestead I don't have a harness. I have a collar on her since day one when I got her. I bought a leash later she hated it she fought me on it for 2 days. Haven't tried since but I will head your advice. We're still working on commands like come and sit. She definitely has her own personality. It's adorable and frustrating at times lol. As far as potty training she stoped pooping day 2 inside and waits till I take her out but pees inside on her mats only. So we're still working on that. Some days I'm afraid she's gunna hate me when I train her. Lately she been tipping over her water bowl which is another frustration. Either when I wake up I'll see it or she wakes me up doing it. Or when I come home from work it's been done . I'm against crate training but that's just me. Any suggestions on how to fix that? I buy her water from the store so it's not bad water.
I got my Pyrenees from my local animal shelter and had her trained to become my medical service dog. she has learned quickly and does bery well. It'd be more awesome if my boss would let me bring jer to work since she's registered but that's another story.
My dogs calmed down at the age of 2 like a switch went off.
Thank you for the info!

Hello,
We are rescuing our first GP puppy. We had a question about brushing/combing.
At what age do you recommend using an undercoat rake? Or is it when they get a nice thick coat?
When they have a nice thick coat is when you should use the rake . You can use it anytime but when they are puppies you will need to be careful not to hurt their skin.
Tips for potty training? I've trained so many puppies. I'm having such a problem with my great Pyrenees.
I’m brand new but so far little guy has only had 3 accidents in the house. We walk him out the same door everytime and about every 20-30 mins
What food do you feed your GP puppies my girl is 12 weeks and I only want the best for her health and her coat to look its best also
We d our puppies Iams puppy large breed but we also added cooked eggs and meat sometimes. Thank you for subscribing. Your wife is going to love the new puppy they are like little polar bears.
me with a 10 weeker now wondering where i went wrong bc she’s still snipping a bit
I just seen your message. What age was the puppy when you brought her home? A lot of times this happens because puppies were re homed to soon, but don't worry this is an easy fix. It will take a little time and consistency just follow my suggestions on my video it will work I guarantee it will work . Every time she goes to nip tap her on the nose with your finger (not to hard to hurt her) and say a stern no!
almost 3 years old
So I just got my first Great Pyrenees she is 12 weeks old.
@laydenhollowhomestead also thank you. I've been watching a lot of Gp videos but yours is the first I've talked on.
Please don't ever spank a great pyrenees. They are very sensitive creatures and they will never forget that moment
I didn't say spank a GP .I said tap on the nose to get their attention I all so said do not spank your dog
